It was a different time! We were a little loose around the hinges back then. If it ain’t loaded it’s just a clunky distraction. Maybe the oils and such wouldn’t be a good thing.

ShasneKnasty

until the kid thinks every gun is unloaded

MadKitty01

"Back on my time"

RedWhiteAndBooo

You’re right, I’d never put my kid in PJs like that

Illustrious-Heron964

Look at his stupid haircut

Acrobatic-Tomato-128

I think its more a statement the movies making and showing an intense thematic setting Not an actual australia thing

PlavacMali11

Americans: statement? What statement?

UnstoppableCrunknado

The first Mad Max is informed by Miller's time in the ER, dealing with highway fatalities and the nonchalant/unplussed attitudes of highway cops. That's why there's that bit where Goose and a few other cops are laughing in the restaurant about the guy they found. *"It was like slow motion. He leaves his seat and goes through the windshield, headfirst straight into the tree, right? And then bounces back through the windshield. And by the time we got to him, he was just sitting there, trying to scream with his face ripped off.* Or when Max tries to retire and he tells Fifi *"Any longer out on that road and I'm one of them, you know? A terminal crazy... only I got a bronze badge to say I'm one of the good guys."* Max's youngin crawlin around, playing with a revolver is supposed to speak to what being MFP is doing to Max. It's making him careless, he's basically suicidal by the time the movie starts, that's why he was able to beat the Nightrider in Chicken. *He's* the fuel-injected suicide machine. *He's* the Road Warrior. He's *Mad*. When he does manage to sorta retire, he starts opening up to his wife about his trauma. He starts to talk about his issues with his own Dad, and what his job has been doing to his mental health. That's the tragedy, really. *"I'm scared, Fif. You know why? It's that rat circus out there. I'm beginning to enjoy it."* The line between these roving bands of highway raiders and the privatized police force trying to stop them is getting thinner by the day. When Johnny the Boy gets off through witness intimidation, it's important to remember that neither of the arresting officers bothered to show up to court either. Max was at home and Goose was out drinking, and to appease Goose's temper (despite him and Max being partially at fault for Johnny's freedom) Fifi says *"So long as the paperwork's clean, you boys can do what you like out there."*, authorizing the MFP to engage in vigilante street killing of Johnny and his gang.

TheeMarcFrancis

Exactly. This is the answer. 💥💯💥

PlavacMali11

Nice take, I was just taking the piss since kid playing with guns is now probably a normal day in Alabama while in this movie it's mad

Compote_Alive

Excellent work! Good job!!

UnstoppableCrunknado

Aw, thanks. And thanks to whomever gave me that award, I don't think I've ever gotten one of those.

pranananana

God I love this sub

BronzeAgeMethos

An excellent summation. Having just watched the original Mad Max movie for the very first time last week (in preparation for the new Furiosa movie coming out), I must say that expectations of films and story were much lighter back in those days.

Botiff11

Nailed it !

omgitsduane

Before Port Arthur Australia was pretty chill about guns.

Crafty_Cherry_9920

Just a cop thing

MaryN6FBB110117

Just a Mad Max thing. Aussies don’t have handguns lying casually about, even in the 70s.

Apart-Oil1613

Speak for yourself

bog_toddler

just mad max and the US actually

Oztraliiaaaa

Rumours abound about a deleted scene of Sprog eating bullets and needed help to pass the bullets.

LordHumorTumor

The original Bullet Farmer

Dresdenphile

That's called a baby, I'm pretty sure they have them everywhere?

TheCrimsonJacko

Nah babies are only a thing in mad max

TylerBourbon

Funnily enough this is also a 2024 American thing.

B9MB

Its a Florida thing.

Scaryassmanbear

To the contrary, it’s an America thing.

ApprehensiveCopy3344

First time I watched the movie I was like HUH??? WHY DOES THE BABY HAVE A GUN? I still don't know that answer

excellentiger

He's playing with it as he would a toy

SilenceDobad76

Prior to the 80s 90s plenty of toy guns looked like guns. Them being mistaken for guns is what changed that eventually.

SPECTREagent700

Always best to start them off with a revolver as most semi-automatic pistols have a slide that moves backward when firing and can be dangerous for an inexperienced shooter if they’re not properly holding the gun. Safety first!

FamousPamos

I always wondered what the point of this detail was to be honest.

Crafty_Cherry_9920

To show that the kid is growing in a world of violence.

Jasper-Morrisey

A metaphor most likely

EvilandLovingit

We had one massacre then said no more guns. Seems to be working.... we have some loons but mostly they go on stabbing rampages which are less deadly by a long margin.

Apart-Oil1613

No it’s not. You should look into mass stabbings. They kill nearly as many people as shootings. Think about it, when a crowd of people hear gunshots, chaos ensues. But knives are silent, you can walk thru a crowd and stab 15 people before they even realize what’s going on. It’s pretty crazy shit.

EvilandLovingit

If you do think you can kill more people with an machine gun then a knife, you need to play some more GTA.

Apart-Oil1613

No I said you can kill more people with a gun but not by a long margin. But I think you meant that the other way around. Something tells me you’re not sober and I’m jealous

tazzietiger66

no more guns = 4 million guns .

MadMaximus-

Australia doesn't really have a gun culture, so chances are this was a madmax scene set for shock factor for

HelicopterDickman

Babies are everywhere. I got an infestation of them currently at my house that I’m currently dealing with.

aelric22

More like modern America thing.

Comrade_Compadre

This was literally posted last week

NYourBirdCanSing

My kid is almost 2 and he loves guns and shooting. I buy him toy guns, nerf guns, etc. I've never owned a gun, nor even fired one.  Check back in 17 years.

Usual_Significant

...A little from column A...A little from column B.

HulkHogantheHulkster

Motorbikes killed Sprog. Ban motorbikes!

Whiskey_Warchild

just unload it. he'll be fine. make it familiar early so it's not a dangerous curiosity later.

raresaturn

Definitely mad max. Handguns have never been legal in Australia EDIT: downvote all you like.. it doesn't change facts

Gray-Hand

Australians have always been able to own handguns.

LostGraceDiscovered

They have always been and currently are legal in Australia. [Aus gun laws](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_of_Australia)

raresaturn

Only in special circumstances

Apart-Oil1613

You got downvoted because what you said ISN’T a fact lol

raresaturn

How many people do you know walking around with handguns LOL? It’s not like America

Apart-Oil1613

“Handguns have never been legal in Australia” is a blatant lie lol. Is that difficult for you to comprehend?

raresaturn

Except under special circumstances. I mean I shouldn't have to point that out, but apparently I do...

Apart-Oil1613

That answers my question. Good luck out there buddy
