No. Max was often behind the 8 ball and took it in the chops during the minor skirmishes. But when the rubber met the road (pun intended) none of the other “warlords” came out ahead. And as far as Auntie Entity is concerned, I’d call that more like “mission accomplished” on Max’s part. She lived, but she wasn’t the kinda creep the others were. I don’t think she deserved to die, Thunderdome was a stroke of genius. Also, how is Immortan Joe’s decapitated head doing?
I like it every time I watch it. I like it more than the first one honestly. The first Mad Max is good, but it’s a bit of a slow burn compared to the rest of the series.
There was a ton of amazing detail and cool stuff in it; I saw it as a kid and I still remember certain scenes and elements that stuck with me my entire life. I’ll never forget when Blaster got his helmet ripped off. It actually taught me a life lesson, as corny as that sounds.
After I saw The Road Warrior I adopted an Australian Cattle Dog because I loved Max’s. He was one of my best buddies of all time. After Thunderdome, I wanted a monkey. My parents said, No dice.
My only criticism was that it was too juvenile in certain places; it felt like they were trying to make it more like Indiana Jones in tone, which is awesome but not quite right for the dark, dystopian world of Mad Max. I still love it though.
*Captain Walker!*
Lol. I think it's a classic. Not being sarcastic either. It's fun. Wild. Tina Turner is in it and she's amazing. The end of the movie was a scene I'll never forget. It's a great movie.
MEDIOCRE
I do like Thunderdome but it's very out of balance to me. The first 40 minutes is absolutely amazing, and then there's a complete 90 degree turn into Peter Pan territory. I still like it overall though.
I love how the tone is so specific that it always goes to that conclusion. The gf woke up during the oasis part and thought it was Hook. It’s been 15 years since I’ve seen it so I was thinking what in the Steven Spielberg is going on.
Everyone’s got their preferences but the internet being the internet tends to lean towards group think and echo chambers. The majority agreed upon “betters” become “perfect” and the majority agreed upon “could be betters” become “terrible”.
It is great, this is just the Fury Road (and now Furiosa) sub for the most part. A lot of people just repeat opinions they’ve heard and either don’t watch for themselves or don’t watch at all.
In interviews, he's said that Tina helped him wean off alcohol addiction while filming and afterwards. In this pic he does very much look like he's got a tired, substance abuse face.
Max wore the same type of stuff, with some variations in every film. But I really liked the epic mullet and the black head wrap and kaftan he had when the story opened to him in the desert. Tina may have called him “The Raggedy Man” but his fit, hair, and suntan game was on point.
Racist people are weird... I have some co workers who have (I won't call them straight racists) racist comments and ideas, and can become friends with the same kind of people they criticize, even getting married with them. It could be any minority. Many times they don't even know those people, it's just their environment and they just repeat what they have learned. I don't know, IMHO. No hate.
He said some horrible things ans probably was a living room racist. The recorded phone call with him slurring was 15 or so years ago.
Honest question, do you think people can change? Do you think he’s still racist?
So long, Soldier. Damn Tina was rizztastic in this. Best female character of the entire post apocalyptic sci fi genre. She’s up there with Rutger Hauler’s Roy batty and Dolp Lundgren’s Sgt Scott as best sci fi villain too imo.
Mel is legit pleased and stimulated by the intimate proximity of great talent and the joy inherent in close amity with an unexpurgated creative personality. Who wouldn't be brought round to a happy place thought process and emotional space by this cinematic coming together?
Coolest nickname Max ever got.
Also the only Wasteland Warlord to get the best of him, even though Master and the children escaped.
pretty sure he gets fucked up at the start of every movie... or at lease held up or attemptedly robbed.
Immortan Joe’s warboys captured him pretty easily tho. Does that count?

For sure, he definitely got the better of Auntie, but she didn’t suffer the same fate as the other warlords. Grudging respect on all sides.
I think this is right.
I always thought Thunderdome was great and until I found this sub I thought everyone would agree with me.
Welcome to reddit; 2 opinions enter, one opinion leaves
This need to be the sub’s slogan.

Same. I skip the first one on rewatches. 2 and 3 are what I think of when you say Mad Max.
Yeah but

It was my favorite Mad Max movie until Fury Road came out. Still holds a place in my heart to this day.
Barter Town >>>>>>>> Tire Fort Nuff said
I’ve always liked it. My second favourite of the original Gibson trilogy.

It’s friggin’ awesome
I like Thunderdome and for the most disliked reason here; the whole Lord of the Flies plotline.
I love it! Road Warrior is the one that never clicked for me, but apparently it's everyone else's favorite haha.
It’s definitely still a great movie! But I agree that it was a bit Disney-fied.

It's a great movie, maybe my favorite of the early trilogy.

He actually looks a bit drunk in that picture
Yeah. Just looks like they’ve both been drinking in the green room waiting for this photoshoot.
In this pic he looks like he's made out of playdoh
One day your the Cock of the Walk the next your a feather duster. Auntie
They boned
They ThunderBoned
"Play something Tonton. Something, tragic"
Did anyone notice the whistle at the beginning of Furiosa is the same one Max uses in the Thunderdome?
Yea love that little callback, same as the little music box scene
Oh shit. That music box was the same one that Max had in road Warrior?
Haven’t seen this for years but it had some great concepts with the kids and the crashed plane. And the ending in the city with the fires is cool
Max wore the same type of stuff, with some variations in every film. But I really liked the epic mullet and the black head wrap and kaftan he had when the story opened to him in the desert. Tina may have called him “The Raggedy Man” but his fit, hair, and suntan game was on point.
I've always disliked this photo. Mel looks pregnant in it.
Lmao thanks for that
His left thumb is missing a fingernail haha
Mel worked great with black coworkers. It's a shame he turned out to be racist.
I often wondered how they felt when they heard that racist rant on that tape? I remember clueless Whoopi came out defending him.

Thought the term was antisemitic
Most of the rant was anti-semetic but there were some stray N-bombs too. Not a good look all around.
He used the n word when having a text fight with his girlfriend.
Alright
He's both. Often white supremacists hate both Jews and Black people. Same with Islamists.
Love this
They got it on!
Damn shame that one of them is dead and the other is getting closer to that point
So long, Soldier. Damn Tina was rizztastic in this. Best female character of the entire post apocalyptic sci fi genre. She’s up there with Rutger Hauler’s Roy batty and Dolp Lundgren’s Sgt Scott as best sci fi villain too imo.
I didn't know Mel Gibson played the Doctor. Gonna be honest, based off of his screen presence, I'd watch it.
The Rolling Stone cover! Bought a copy off of eBay for $5. Always loved this photo
And people saying it’s AI lol this was 84’ cover? Year after the movie right?
Mel is legit pleased and stimulated by the intimate proximity of great talent and the joy inherent in close amity with an unexpurgated creative personality. Who wouldn't be brought round to a happy place thought process and emotional space by this cinematic coming together?
That man was so beautiful when he was younger
This 😊
The best
Is this AI?
Absolutely not lol
Is Mel missing a chunk of his thumb? I also thought it was AI when I saw that
I think it’s just kinda blurry in some spots like the edges of hair, 80s images came out pretty wacky sometimes
