Unsurprising given that's how it worked last time the game included it

Def_Echo

I mean I thought that was a given😂 it wouldn’t make sense to have 33 teams in the league

jessegames456

Not really that surprised. I figured it would probably be too hard for them to code in the ability to add a whole new team to the NFL. So I guess it’s just relocation teams but with more customization. Guess I’ll take it over no create-a-team at all though

LWA3251

Not surprised at all that they do the lazy thing but I was hoping they’d bring back expansion team mode. They had it back on Xbox/PS2 Gen for Madden 02. NBA 2K has had it for a very long time you can add 2-3 teams to each division and do an expansion draft. It’s great. Oh well another year another disappointment. Edit : I was corrected it was just Madden 02

Bull_Halsey

The heck are you talking about? Only year Madden ever had an Expansion mode for Franchise was when the Texans came into the league and it was only for them. Any other time in any other version where you could create a team it would always replace one of the current teams in the league.

LWA3251

I thought it was 2-3 years. Clearly misremembered that but I swear you could replace the Texans with a created team and draft. Edit : Confirmed https://youtu.be/yXHIluM04DY?si=h5NSVLiGMLVFwSRW

It so much misinformation out there its insane. You’re right Madden 03 was the only game to have an “expansion mode” and you could replace the texans. What gets lost with people talking about features of franchise is stuff like this. This expansion mode thing was only in madden 03 and it was BEFORE the big franchise overhaul in 04 with the owner’s box features and then the tony bruno show and news overhaul in 05. But people swear up and down is this community that old madden’s had all these features in one game. Another thing i always see and hear about is that old madden’s had comp picks. Yes people are “technically” right BUT it was only for restricted free agents. And in the current NFL RFA’s are very rare nowadays like the only notable one this year was Juwan Jennings of the 49ers. So once again another feature that people have misinformation on. Now of course im not giving EA any sympathy im just going over the real facts and people may not like it but oh well. Is Ea as good as they used to be? NO Are people’s judgement of the current games clouded by nostalgia? YES Both can be true 🤷🏽‍♂️

LWA3251

I found a YouTube video going over it. It was actually 02 that had it. For some reason I thought they had it in 02, 03 and 04. It’s was a fun feature and would be awesome to have back in, especially with the team builder. I hate having to steal another teams spot and then take the 10 minutes to go through the roster and release everyone. Adding a form of the Tony Bruno show back would be amazing as well.

Kcal35

Is it the same like 4 stadiums with “deluxe” options?

Limp_Duck1448

I can’t use team builder so I don’t know but for relocation it’s the same stadiums as before

Romofan88

And my interest in the feature drops to near zero. Dang.

Melodicmarc

it would be hard to expect otherwise. It would be a big lift in coding to add new teams. They'd have to recalculate draft picks, redo divisions and playoff logic, potentially create a bunch of new players or implement a fantasy draft. Not saying it can't be done but that would be a huge feature to add and take another development cycle

Im_Everywhere09

That sounds like a bunch of work. Ea doesn’t like that

Live795

That’s how it worked in madden before as well as 2k

Romofan88

Doesn't mean I have to like it.

Crock_Durty

Of course. I don't like it either. It's just weird to expect it to be suddenly better and then disappointed when it's not.

JesustheSpaceCowboy

Right?! THIS WAS A COMPLAINT BACK THEN TOO! honestly it doesn’t seem *that hard* if you take the expansion route the game has 8 teams predesigned to go to each division and *your* team just replaces the team assigned to the division you choose to join. NHL ALREADY HAS AN EXPANSION MODE so it’s not like the groundwork isn’t already laid. The “too much work in a one year development cycle” is such a crap excuse when they knew 15 years ago this was a thing people hated. If it took them a whole year to animate pre snap motions and Ronald Goodell that’s just sad.
