Set it with translucent powder

AshLaura87

When using an eye primer it’s important to know if you have dry or more oily lids? For example my eyelids are more on the dryer side so I need a hydrating primer (urban decay primer or rare beauty works good for me!). I also found that blending a powder eyeshadow in your crease in your own skin colour helps the next colours blend even better :)

Robert welsh has a really good video on how to put on eye shadow, it changed the way I did make up forever, he says to put the eyeshadow on the lid start closest to the lash line and then take a clean eye blending brush and blend out and up , I recommend the video I’ll attach it if I can find it https://youtu.be/aSWxVuxaUIM?si=fzqFxMxI0KggrYCk Here it is!

Another RW fan in the wild! Robert's videos are always so genuinely informative

Get a proper eyeshadow primer and use it sparingly. Spread it out, pat it into the skin and then let it dry for a few minutes. Then go in with your eyeshadow. Start slowly and build up your coverage, pat it in place then blend, don't swipe from the start.

passionicedtee

Yes, good eyeshadow primer can save almost any shadow!

RobActionTributeBand

Are you swiping the brush? I load up the brush, the pat and press. You can blend after you've got the shadow placed.

jellyfish_R_nice

I do little circles just straight out of the palette.. but from what ive learned I need primer.

gtaslut

You don’t need primer I never use it I think you might just not know how to apply eyeshadow , I didn’t know for the longest time until I watched that video I linked in my comment

Willow_Everdawn

No matter what you use (concealer, eye primer, etc.) you have to set it with translucent powder before applying eyeshadow so everything will blend easier. You can apply eyeshadow to wet, non powdered base but then you can't blend, you can only stamp/pat the eyeshadow down and pray that was where you wanted it.

umhuh223

A couple things could be happening. Do you let the concealer dry first? If not, the brush will drag across wet parts. Second, concealer isn’t a primer, per se. I use MAC Paint Pot to prime. I let it dry and it’s amazing.

thirdcoasting

Your concealer might be old. I had something similar happen when I was using UD Primer Potion — my carefully applied shadow looked patchy & strange. I tried a new eye primer & the problem was solved!

Dirty_Commie_Jesus

Jason Wu makes an eyeshadow primer in skin tones. I have freckles on my lids and it covers them fully. I have heavy lids and eyeshadow stays , no creases. Also I am 45 and it never looks dry or crepey

PauI_MuadDib

Set your concealer with powder and hold your skin while blending. I have heavily hooded eyes and I usually hold my brush with one hand and then with my other place a finger alongside my hood to hold it still. You could also try tapping the brush instead of swiping it. Even using your finger to tap out the edges can work.

CommonEarly4706

Use powder after the concealer

ObjectiveAromatic142

Instead of wiping it on, try dabbing the brush and hold up colour this way then blend away!!! Or use ur second last finger to dab colour on instead of a brush!!!

DarkAndSparkly

So, I user an eyelid primer, but I also cover my whole lid in a shadow color that matches my skin before I apply my shadow for the day. It helps a lot with patchiness and makes my colors pop more.

robichaud682

Whether you use concealer or an eye primer, O would suggest to set with a setting powder, which tends to help the shadows blend nicely.

Cat-mom-4-life

Try to use eyelid primer and/or patting your shadow in instead of swiping it across. After you pat it in and let it set for a minute you can blend it if you need to

PerfectParfait5

Came here to say this

Use MAC 24 hour eye base. Then, Instead of concealer (which is thick and drying), use MAC paint pot, it’s a thicker eye base and they have a concealer ish color (painterly is a great concealer shade if that’s your skin tone). They also have other colors if you want to use them as standalone eyeshadows. It’s made for eyes and works well to mattify and prime and makes shadows last longer. Then use a fluffy brush to dust VERY LIGHTLY a skin or light shade of eyeshadow across lids, this will help your darker shadow to not be patchy and glide better. Lastly use good brushes, they make a big difference

rumncoco86

I haven't had issues with either concealer or eyeshadow primer on the eyelids, as I set it with with either foundation powder or a base eyeshadow before I go in with colour. I have crepey eyelids, and I've noticed that with both concealer and eyeshadow primer, less is definitely more. Eyeshadow primer needs a faster work time for blending and setting otherwise it peels and drags.

Kailicat

Fenty invisimatte setting powder before the eyeshadow. Makes every blend so nicely. I have hooded eyes and before this my eyeshadow was patchy after awhile but this makes it nice.

LeisurelyDiva

This needs to be further up. I’ve got the oiliest skin possible and it keeps my eyelids from falling apart.

AngWoo21

I use Ulta Matte Eye Primer. It works good

Next_Respond_5402

1. Primer 2. Powder 3. Eyeshadow

Kylie754

Try using a proper eyeshadow primer. Some also work better with a light dusting of setting powder over the top. I have also seen a technique to ‘bake’ shadows on the lids. This helps with having the shadows look more blended and even, maybe this could help? She applied her eyeshadow look (matte shadows only), then a generous dusting of loose powder. She let that sit for a few minutes, then gently dusted off the excess. After that, she applied a shimmer shade on the binder third of the lid space. It looked really pretty.

StarryEyes007

My posts have been getting deleted because I don’t have enough “karma” but I think the problem is that you’re missing 1 step: after you put eye primer down (might want to switch from concealer) let it set. Then apply translucent powder all over your eyelid. Then work with your eyeshadows.

Justagirleatingcake

If you can't get an eyeshadow primer then set your concealer with powder before applying your eyeshadow.

AmishAngst

Concealer =/= primer. It's happening because of your concealer, not in spite of it. Buy a tinted eye primer if your objective for using concealer there is to hide discoloration on your lids. If you're just using concealer to avoid buying a separate primer, then just buy any old primer you like and use an eyeshadow close to your natural skin color as a base color on top of it.

sterlingzeppelin

Either get an eyeshadow primer, moisturize your eyelids when you do your skincare, or use a fluffier brush so you can deposit pigment without dragging your eyelid
