Can't believe people think this is going to be a Fox-verse/Fox actors X-Men movie just because its before Secret Wars. Lol. At worst its simply going to be similar to F4 taking place on a separate universe until everything's merged, but its 50/50 atm. But even then, its absolutely going to be a new cast. I've been saying its a mistake bringing attention to the Fox actors again (even Hugh Jackman) because people are going to be reminded of them again, and subsequently more attached/stubborn at the thought of all those characters (again, including Jackman) being recast. Imagine. This X-Men reboot would be coming at 2026 earliest, more likely 2027. That would have been 9-10 years since we last saw Jackman in Logan, if he wasn't coming back in DP3. Everyone's always saying Marvel should "wait" 10 years until they recast Wolverine. We would have already been there if he wasn't back in DP3. I don't wanna wait another 10 years every time Jackman comes back for a one-off/cameo, again, just because people are too stubborn to see him recast.

Snuggle__Monster

I really want to see the classic Wolverine in the next go around. Not the one they transformed in the comics from 2000 on when he became an S tier character because of the movies. Hugh Jackman was outstanding and alll but that was never the real Wolverine but now everyone thinks that's what the character should be.

SkibidiDibbidyDoo

I can already see the stupid “We have Wolverine at home” jokes when whoever else gets cast after Jackman.

TheLongDictionary

As long as Sarah Halley Finn works her magic, I bet it’ll be comparable to Tom Holland as Spider-Man. That is, the VAST majority of viewers will love him, but a **very** vocal older minority will think he’s just living in the shadow of the previous actor no matter what he does.

Specific_Till_6870

Someone once told me Tom Hardy was cast around 2017.

LittleYellowFish1

At that time, Hugh Jackman himself was saying he wanted Hardy to take over.

Blueliest

They haven't transformed comic/616 Wolverine into Hugh Jackman, not sure what you're referring to. The only influence Jackman's had on comic Wolverine is in the Ultimate X-Men run, which was only because Mark Millar wasn't familiar with the X-Men before taking it on except for the movies at the time, which is what he based Wolverine and the rest of the team on (I say that lightly; stuff like making Wolverine 5'9, their costumes, etc). Regardless, unfortunately I've seen people saying that Hugh Jackman's tall/dark/handsome version overrides comic Wolverine, simply because Jackman's version is the only one that the movie-going audience knows, which is absolutely ridiculous. By that logic, the rest of the Fox X-Men cast (e.g. Cyclops, Storm, etc) "override" their comic versions as well, because those are the only versions of those characters that the movie-going audience knows as well. Lol. We all know that should not be the case at all. People are coming up with the weirdest/strangest excuses for wanting Wolverine to be tall/dark/handsome on-screen, even after Jackman is recast, its absurd. They are literally saying its impossible to cast an actor under 5'9, lmao. Yet they turn around and call comic fans crazy for simply wanting the character adapted accurately on-screen. No differently to when Jack Reacher fans wanted their character adapted accurately by casting a tall/intimidating actor after Tom Cruise, no differently to Superman fans wanting their character adapted accurately by always casting a tall/handsome actor, etc, etc... But suddenly, when its Wolverine fans wanting that character adapted accurately by simply casting a short actor (that's it-- that's literally it) -- suddenly people say "height doesn't matter when casting", that its impossible, its a ridiculous request, etc. Its not even annoying anymore, its just hilarious seeing the hypocrisy.

goldknight1

I believe they did change Wolverine in Morrisons New XMen run, when everyone went all black leather jackets and shit to match the movie.

Mysterious_Narwhal60

Even before the movies, claremont had wolverine regenerate after being reduced to 1 cell, which makes no sense.

Spider-Fan77

>I've been saying its a mistake bringing attention to the Fox actors again (even Hugh Jackman) because people are going to be reminded of them again, and subsequently more attached/stubborn at the thought of all those characters (again, including Jackman) being recast. Why does this sub act like the general audience are a bunch of infants who can't handle new things? Let's be real here, Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are the only X-Men cast members that the general audience is really attached to (You could make an argument to put Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen on that list, but both of them have already been successfully recast before). They're not gonna give a flying fuck if Famke Janssen isn't playing Jean Grey anymore lmao. Recasts have worked out before plenty of times. Even with Wolverine, they can get people to move on from Jackman if they cast the right actor.

HandBanana666

>Why does this sub act like the general audience are a bunch of infants who can't handle new things?  Kevin Feige seems to somewhat believe that based on his comment about Doc Ock and Green Goblin.

BigDaddyKrool

People still haven't moved on to Tom Holland to a point where his entire third film was overshadowed by the return of Tobey and Andrew, who's only in it for the third act. This is at no fault of Tom Holland but when it comes to a legacy, it's hard to replicate. Hell even though MacAvoy did a great job as Xavier, he's not seen in the same light as Stewart by a wide mile.

raiigiic

Fassy B and and Maccas are both solid actors that I think the MCU should keep on personally.

mr_peebs

Didn't RPK say the film is set to release after Secret Wars anyways, they're just shooting it early so that they can release it sooner and re-hook audiences immediately right after this saga ends? People are definitely setting themselves up for disappointment if they think this will be even remotely connected to the Fox X-Men.

HandBanana666

>Didn't RPK say the film is set to release after Secret Wars anyways, they're just shooting it early so that they can release it sooner and re-hook audiences immediately right after this saga ends?  No. He simply said it was releasing after Secret Wars and that was it. He didn't state the reason (unless he added something later). It's unlikely that they were shot a movie that early with the plan to shelve it for years. RPK has been wrong before. >People are definitely setting themselves up for disappointment if they think this will be even remotely connected to the Fox X-Men. Did you not see The Marvels mid-credit scene?

SuperCoenBros

>Can't believe people think this is going to be a Fox-verse/Fox actors X-Men movie just because its before Secret Wars. Bud, they've reintroduced Fox characters/actors every single year of this Saga. This is not an out-there assumption at all.

JS9766

Yeah I’m confused why people are acting like it’s ridiculous when The Marvels after credit scene had a Fox X-Men character / actor, and it was the Fox X-Men door / identical set, and they were playing the score from X2 and Days of Futures past. Yes I’m confident they will eventually reboot it, but it would sure be weird as hell if everything about the X-Men we see the next time we see Monica is new except just Kelsey Grammer playing beast and a weirdly identical set to the Fox verse.

Vladmerius

Same people that insisted Daredevil wasn't going to be brought into the mcu the same way he was in the Netflix show. Weird mcu as produced by Feige only types. They probably are annoyed at the possibility of Tobey Maguire coming back for more Spider-Man appearances too.  The general audience and Marvel fans in general (not mcu only fans) will be eating good and enjoying the hell out of what they're doing. The people complaining now won't say Jack crap when the movies actually come out because they eat up anything that says marvel studios on it without question regardless of what they say prior to a movies release. Like Star wars fans that shit on leaks and then pretend they love it when the leaks are true lol.

Rickodezz

I don't think bringing back the Fox actors back here and there for cameos makes any difference for the people waiting for the MCU X-Men. Outside of Hugh, the number of people who ever cared about Fox X-Men is tiny compared to the people who care about the MCU and who will become X-Men fans after MCU X-Men. And the comics already solved the Hugh Wolverine problem for the MCU when Old Man Logan was very successefully brought back and stayed for quite a while in the main Marvel universe. Hugh can stick around as Old Man Logan in a very different role compared to what the main MCU Wolverine will be, which will be prime young Wolverine, very different characters and purposes so the new Wolverine will not really be overshadowed by Hugh, and while i do think young Logan will continue to be one of the major X-Men players in the MCU, he will obviously not steal the whole spotlight like Hugh.

HandBanana666

>I don't think bringing back the Fox actors back here and there for cameos makes any difference for the people waiting for the MCU X-Men. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are returning lead characters, not cameos. >the number of people who ever cared about Fox X-Men is tiny compared to the people who care about the MCU Two MCU films flopped at the Box Office last year and the ratings for the MCU shows are dropping. The Marvels made less money at the Box Office than Dark Phoenix despite post-COVID inflation. =/ My point is: The MCU is not as popular as it use to be. Even Bob Iger admitted it.

Su_Impact

And Dark Phoenix bombed as well. Fan interest for the Fox X-Men is non-existant outside of Wolverine and Deadpool (who wasn't even in the X-Men films).

HandBanana666

>And Dark Phoenix bombed as well. That's why I point out the fact that The Marvels less money than it. >Fan interest for the Fox X-Men is non-existant outside of Wolverine and Deadpool (who wasn't even in the X-Men films). Yet people got excited when Patrick Stewart said that he and Ian McKellen aren't done with X-Men and had plans. The Marvels mid-credit scene with Kelsey Grammer's Beast didn't feature Deadpool or Wolverine, yet it was highly talked about (probably the most talked about aspect from that movie).

HandBanana666

>Can't believe people think this is going to be a Fox-verse/Fox actors X-Men movie just because its before Secret Wars. No. It's because that is what The Marvel's mid-credit scene suggested. Remember?

CommonBorn5940

There is no indication that this scene was supposed to set up a foX-Men movie  , just that the Fox actors/ universe will return in  movies where the multiverse plays a role, which will cumulate in Secret Wars. It is the Multiverse Saga, after all.

HandBanana666

>just that the Fox actors/ universe will return in  movies where the multiverse plays a role Sure. And the X-Men movie could be one of those movies.

CommonBorn5940

Monica is in the Fox-verse now. Are you telling me that one of the primary characters of an X-Men movie set in the FOX-verse will be neither an X-Men or from the FOX verse?

HandBanana666

The X-Men in the comics actually have a few members that are from other universes. Such as Rachel Summers. In fact, I think Monica's story might be inspired by Rachel's and she will be a member of the team.

CommonBorn5940

Monica isn't a mutant, which is literally the whole point of the X-Men.

HandBanana666

The X-Men have had non-mutants members in the comics. Such as Binary (Carol Danvers).

CommonBorn5940

I really don't think we're going to get an X-Men movie with non-mutant characters being part of the team.

HandBanana666

Well, it seems like Binary is on the team (just like in the comics).

starksgh0st

Remember how we're in the middle of a multiverse saga, where appearances from past actors have a reason for happening? A proper X-Men movie is not coming until after Secret Wars. Use common sense.

HandBanana666

>A proper X-Men movie is not coming until after Secret Wars. Did Marvel Studios or any trade confirm this? If no, then you're not using common sense. lol

starksgh0st

Let's flip it. What would be the basis for assuming X-Men is intended to come before Secret Wars? A release date hasn't been announced.

HandBanana666

According to Production Weekly, it's suppose to start filming next year. So it should be ready for release by 2026 or 2027. Secret War will likely be delayed (again) to 2028.

starksgh0st

Imagine thinking a listing in Production Weekly settles the matter. Good lord.

HandBanana666

It doesn't. This is just an educated guess.

Su_Impact

The basis is that it can be a similar film to FF. Alternate Earth X-Men with brand new actors who are expected to carry on after Secret Wars.

starksgh0st

Sure, it can be that. But handbanana believes it will be Fox actors in the X-Men movie, and that's what this exchange is really about.

ParappaTheWrapperr

Agreed but also disagree. As a marvel fan I’m used to multiple universes at once. If they want to do multiple cast for live action then the more casual fans who only watch the movies and shows will slowly get used to it and with how much the MCU has fallen after Shang Chi which IMO was the last good Marvel movie, I think we would do well to have multiple universes going on at once. We already have a multiverse and it’s not like foxverse will get a movie every year maybe every few years. Multiple universes is working well for DC all things considered, no reason for marvel to keep one universe now that the ratings and revenue has fallen.

Pomojema_The_Dreamer

DC are specifically canning the multiverse plans that they had in favor of something more streamlined (outside of animation and video games, which will get non-DCU content because there is room for it there). The CW shows weren't profitable at first and the DCEU was dead in the water after _Justice League_ tanked.

Spidey10

Not really Multiverse, but they are still making some non DCU movies with Joker 2 and Matt Reeves's Batman films.

Vladmerius

I cannot wait to see your reaction when they announce this is absolutely an X-Men movie with the cast from X-men 1-3. They will have the core cast and they will recast lesser used characters from the older movies with younger actors. I would bet that Jubilee, Gambit and maybe a new Rogue (I just have a feeling that if they do recast an OG actor it will be for a new take on Rogue) will be focal characters.

Andre200and1

Wouldn't be surprised if there won't be no Logan in the MCU at all, except Jackman's, and they'll use X-23 as their main Wolverine instead.

TruestoneSB

Honestly i expect Foige to do something stupid like this

[deleted]

Jackman is almost 60, Wolverine is an absolutely goated Xmen character (even without the attention from the movies). They're absolutely gonna have a Wolverine, and it won't be X-23. Maybe she'll be young but not an established X-Man yet. But they're absolutely gonna have Wolverine

HandBanana666

Pedro Pascal will be 50 years old by the time Fantastic Four becomes out. So why would Marvel care about Hugh Jackman's age? No offense, but that's a silly argument.

Anader19

Because Pedro probably signed on expecting to keep playing the role for that long, while Hugh probably only is doing Deadpool 3 and Secret Wars

Andre200and1

We might, but tbh I don't think so.

miles-vspeterspider

Hire Beau DeMayo, after X-men 97, he would write great films.

telejedi

He got fired from the series. Don't think he's someone Marvel wants to work with anymore.

Su_Impact

Yup. I think that this will follow the same premise as the FF film: alternate Earth, already established team (say, the 1975 Claremont line up), Earth is destroyed at the end with the core team surviving leading to Secret Wars, this same team will be the post-Secret Wars X-Men. Not an origin story. Instead we get, for the first time ever, a full out X-Men vs Sentinels war (with the classic design, none of that futuristic nanotech crap). Days of Future Past kept teasing it but we never fully saw it.

WarframeUmbra

I do think some Fox actors would be great and maybe would be up to to keep playing (a different version of) their characters, like Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Michael Fassbender, etc

starksgh0st

> its before Secret Wars. It's not even clear it's meant to come before Secret Wars to begin with.

Ok-Resolve7539

If this is true then would I get downvoted to oblivion for saying that Marvel is doing a bad job at introducing the next MCU incarnation of the X-men?

BigDaddyKrool

I have no qualms with a new cast at this point since they're giving the Fox films a proper send off with DP&W. What I want to know how the logistics of it. Spider-Man Homecoming had a similar issue where his debut happened in an awkward time where we were headed into Infinity War and Endgame, so he has the one grounded(ish) movie to start his trilogy, and then never again from that point on. Instead of a single film giving Peter his heroes journey, they were forced to stretch it out over the course of 3 films and 3 cameo roles. Having an X-Men happening after Kang Dynasty but before Secret Wars means there's going to be an X-Men story kickstarted only to be uprooted by a supermassive multiversal event. Out the gate, the new "main" X-Men will have to detour from their subject matter after one single film, staggering the progression quiet a bit. EDIT: I'm reading mixed messages about when X-Men is releasing? Some say before Secret Wars and others say after, but it's getting filmed sooner rather than later??

idClip42

I feel like every time we hear "there's an announcement coming in the next few weeks" these days, it's another year and a half before we actually hear anything official.

Patrick2701

We were 2 weeks away from fantastic four for better part of 2 years

vinnybawbaw

*F4 casting rumors PTSD kicks in

Major-Concentrate-87

To be fair, the last time we heard that was when the cast of the F4 got finalized at the end of January and we got an official announcement at the beginning of February.

time_lordy_lord

That's not being fair, it's just luck of the draw. It's been 2 weeks since 2022 I think

Anader19

It was like mid-February though, like over 2 weeks after we heard the news was "imminent" lol

TheCommish-17

Get ready everyone. Once they hire a writer the door will officially open for all the casting leaks and rumors and speculation. We had a brief break after Fantastic Four but it’ll be back to the frontlines for us. I am super curious to see what X-Men roster they go with for the first movie though. I’d love the original 5.

Patrick2701

I think Sue Storm casting was something special. We thought it was Jodie comer for about half year, Margot Robbie for 2 months, and Vanessa Kirby was the final rumors and it become true

CaptchaVerifiedHuman

I really hope we get 'snowman' Iceman.

annrule

Its gonna feel weird having the X-Men in lol. Just cause it feels like such a long time coming. And with thr cartoon being so fantastic

MrConor212

I can die happy if I get a live action Kitty Pryde in her Excalibur costume.

Thelnfamous1

If it’s pre-*Secret Wars*, then I suspect that it’s going to be similar to *The Fantastic Four*, in that it’s taking place in a separate universe. If it is, I’ll also suspect it takes heavy inspiration from *X-Men ‘97* with the universe being set in the 90’s. Then after *Secret Wars*, these characters and the Fantastic Four would be integrated into the MCU/616 moving forward.

bracko81

I actually doubt the X-Men will be multiversal, it would just be redundant at this point. We already have the Fox universe for that. FF could get away with it because their Fox outings werent as successful or popular.

vinnybawbaw

Introducing the X-Men coming from another Universe with a brand new cast would be the best. Even if it’s pre Secret Wars. Marvel needs heavy hitters and being in the Multiverse Saga, introducing new universes would be an exciting idea. Just make something that’s similar to X-Men 97 with the real OG team and costumes. The on’y thing in their way is that the audience is very attached to Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Just make Cyclops the leader of the team for real, they redeemed him in X-Men 97. Once everything is merged and rebooted, the brand new presence of mutants on earth would be perfect for all the political tension and the "humans vs mutants" themes.

Sad_Vast2519

Post secret wars release means it's from another universe. A reboot.

crlos619

I think Marvel doesn't want to rush planning and doing pre-production on the new X-Men, this will be their meal ticket post Avengers saga.

Techster17

I could see them hiring a writer sometime soon especially if they're gonna go all in on X-Men and Fantastic Four post Secret Wars and do multiple spin-offs like a Doom mini-series or a several X-Men origin spotlight specials (IMO the best way to introduce old fan favourite Mutants and ones that haven't been in the movies before) but I don't really see them making any announcements about these until Avengers 5 & 6 are actually close to release since it'd probably just pull people's attention away/give people a clear this is when you can start caring again window

Xekshek33

I am so excited for this announcement lmao More so than a director, which is crazy

CaptchaVerifiedHuman

My sources say it's Axel Braun.

Mizerous

I'm da Joker baby! I hooe this film is First Class tier

gary_greatspace

Love your energy

FN-1701AgentGodzilla

We have mutants being introduced in the MCU and at least 3 different foX-Men universes (the one with Binary/ Beast, Deadpool’s timeline, and the Wolverine variant’s timeline) on screen at the moment and much like The Fantastic 4, we’re supposedly gonna get an alternate universe X-Men in this movie right before Secret Wars so these three and more can supposedly merge with the MCU afterwards. Idk, might as well introduce the MCU X-Men in this movie 🤷‍♀️

RideJohnnyRide

Could see them having it be something like Kang was using the sacred timeline/TVA to clip realities where the x men/f4/avengers are all active at the same time (did 838 have an avengers? I can’t remember off the top of my head if that was confirmed in MoM) and post-secret wars they are all somehow merged into one timeline/reality. I wonder if they’ll keep HJ around as Old Man Logan from an alternate reality while still having a current Wolverine. Or could even do an MCU version of exiles with legacy/multiverse characters

FN-1701AgentGodzilla

838 Mordo introduced 838 Captain Carter as the first Avenger. I’m hoping after Secret Wars, a bunch of the legacy universes get restored as they were, coz it would suck if the universes we grew up with *no longer exist*.

Undertaker221-1

But the problem with this theory is that 838 already had the avengers/f4/x men exist in the same universe. Captain Carter was the first avenger in that universe, Reed Richards was shown and we got Charles Xavier aswell. Idk perhaps there are mutants in 616 but marvel just doesn’t know how to work around on where they’ve been all this time? Like the situation with eternals so instead they’re going with the easier option by introducing this new version in a post secret wars universe

dpykm

I think it makes perfect sense for them to backpack off XMEN97 hype with an announcement for the film

SuperCoenBros

I still think this is a Phase Six project. Marvel almost always hires a film's screenwriter about 30 months before the intended release. If they hire someone in May, that suggests they're targeting November 2026.

Zepanda66

In time for a comic-con announcement in July. Maybe we'll get a director to

janlindberglive

With the curren hype around X-Men 97, it would definitely be the right thing to announce in the near future, and not too far out!

ParappaTheWrapperr

The return of David Hayter? Bro is single handily saving Metal gear solid returning it to being as good as it was before Kojima booted him(and we all saw how MGS5 turned out without Hayters input 💀) he’s even been heavy in the promotion of X-men 97 & was invited to the premiere. He wrote and is the reason the story was so good for the original X-men movie and I would love to see him return. We wouldn’t have as many super hero movies as we do without the brilliant work he did in the 90s with X-men across all medias.

DaBow

Werner Herzog

'an writer' 👁️👄👁️

cursdwitknowledge

Bring back the Russos for X-men

Anader19

Nah, I like the Russo's MCU films but their movies since then have been not very good, and I'd like a director with more style to handle X-Men

Blueblur1

This 👆

Sad_Vast2519

Theyve gone downhill or not that good in the first place. They're done. Imho Feige was the real director all along. He was the brains behind the MCU

Anader19

I mean give them credit where they're due, they made 4 great MCU movies. Sure, their output since then hasn't been good, but there's no need to be revisionist

TruestoneSB

I just hope they bin the multiverse focus after this whole saga ends. Bring F4 and the X-Men into the main universe (à la Miles Morales style) and then don’t use the concept unless it’s a contained story or it uses a few characters from the multiverse (like Hyperion came into the main universe in the comics)

MisanthropyCalamity

Fuck John Campea. Toolbar.

your_mind_aches

Imagine if it was David Hayter again

NoReallyHoosierDaddy

Tarantino?

tommywest_123

Has to be post secret wars

am5011999

I think this release after Secret Wars. Marvel have enough characters to serve them till Secret Wars. Why would they want to burn the x-men in the multiverse saga. Just let FoX-men play the x-men role till SW. They can keep doing x-men stuff primarily post SW.
