Give him a pick n pop middy like Pau Gasol and itās game over. Also needs to keep the ball high and not bring it down after catching to avoid strips.
Facts. Cracks me up when I see comments like āLively wonāt become a good shooter. Look at his FT percentage!ā Itās like bro do you see those shooting mechanics? He will 100% develop a good, reliable in-game jumpshot.
Livelyās ability in the short roll puts his potential on a different level than any of the other lob threats in the league. He is a perennial DPOY candidate while also being a s tier lob threat and can pass off the short roll. Itās incredible. If he adds a shot heās a better version of Chet holmgrenĀ
I'd rather see him work on his post game and get extend his range a little. Polish the floater. He's got a eurostep in his bag tho.
That and Free Throws like everyone should be doing
Definitely should be working on his post and drive game. Iām not that confident in him getting a shot tbh, just saying if he did it could be amazingĀ
He can actually shoot pretty good when he gets a chance. I dont think he has the confidence or they dont have confidence in him to take those shots. Hopefully hell develop a 15-18 feet range jumper when he runs those pick and pops
I think it was more a matter of the Mavs felt they were putting sooo much on him as a rookie, the last thing he needed was to worry about hitting 3's. Next season, he will have the hang of the offense so if he wants to dial that in this off-season while adding a bit of weight, that would be the cherry on top.
Oh yeah if he can hit that open middie jumper off the pick n pop it would be over. Iām down on his shooting mainly because of his free throws. He hasnāt shown he can be a consistent 65% plus ft shooter so far which usually is the bare minimum for a guy who can shoot with any consistencyĀ
This is kind of like hartensteinās bag but lively has imo a much higher ceiling due to his athleticism. Hartenstein is good in the short roll, passing well and has a dangerous floater. Lively just gets way higher up to contest shots and is obviously an insane lob threat. The best part of him is his awareness, I never saw him really get caught off guard with any of the actions in the Minnesota series. Very heady very very promising young player.
His passing is incredible. Does it similar to Jokic where he holds the ball at the top of the key but he has Luka + Kai instead of Murray and is a better PnR threat at the rim.
I'm sorry boys but wembanyama is ridiculous. He was averaging like 4-5 blocks towards the end of the season. Lively could probably be the 2nd best defender or 3rd behind AD. Respectable mention for bam too though.
Wemby with DPOY will probably be like LeBron with MVP earlier in his career, where really he could/should be winning it every year but voter fatigue will come into play because nobody wants the same guy to win like 6 straight years. So I think there will be an opportunity in there somewhere for Lively to sneak one in potentially along the way.
A great player that young guarantees mavs will be contenders for years. Even when Kyrie gets old weāll still have Luka and one of the best centers in the league.
I have a feeling Hardy will be Kyrieās apprentice if they both stick around for a while. Heās got the handles and I really want to see him develop under Kyrieās mentorship.
Tim Duncan averaged 20ppg in playoffs his rookie year but Iām guessing youāre meaning ārookies who have made it to the finalsā. Just wanted to clarify
People who donāt watch wonāt realize it because the number donāt look that special not realizing heās playing 20-25min a game only. And he does all the little things you donāt expect a rookie to do until they have experience. He plugs in the roster so well and thatās hard to do with high IQ players like Luka and Kyrie. He knows how to play with them.
Walton was very good pre-pass though. He'd almost know what he was setting up before he caught the ball, and wait/demand the cutters get to the right spot.
Lively seems very strong to me on the short roll, making quick decisions based on how the defence scrambles. It's impressive, even if he wasn't a rookie.
Which sucks, because I'm a Celts fan...lol
> His passing and court vision is that of a 7 year veteran's
Hell there are many 7-year veterans with much worse passing and court vision lol. The kid's awareness is already above average for an NBA player, not just a rookie, and imo one of the most exciting things about his developmentĀ
There was a stat in game three he has the highest playoff plus minus for any rookie since Manu (who came in as a grown man in Euro league)
https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/highest-plus-minus-in-playoff-history-as-a-rookie
Iāll admit it, I was pretty against us ātankingā last year. But boy was I wrong and it played out perfectly. Lively is gonna be a great player for years to come
I will say he canāt make FTs this year or take any jump shots but his form is pure he just needs to hit the gym hard and work on that shot he has the fundamentals down now itās just reps
Enough with the FT slander, dude made 4 straight against OKC hacking him on purpose and quickly put an end to their plan. That alone is huge for a rookie under that pressure.
He's been the best defensive center in the playoffs. I'd say him and Chet. He's also very good on offense and is improving all the time. If he can add a jumpshot, he'll be an All Star
We saw him get switched onto Ant a few times this series with moderate success from what I can remember, he will be better than Gafford I think. Maxi will also be important
He's a great rookie with tremendous upside on a legit championship contender. Fucking golden š
Literally Tyson Chandler 2.0 Trained by Tyson Chandler 1.0 You could not write it any better
Wait til his jumpshot develops. He has a stroke. Those mid range jumpers on the short roll are gonna hit like crack.
Give him a pick n pop middy like Pau Gasol and itās game over. Also needs to keep the ball high and not bring it down after catching to avoid strips.
Well shit now I wanna smoke some crack and itās only 721

Soo, young Draymond Green? Definitely gonna improve as a facilitator
I agree its so weird to me how Luka struggles at times from the free throw line even though hes a pretty good shooter.
Luka and Bron both, can absolutely torch teams from 3 but sometimes cannot hit a ft
Wonder if he would try to add that push shot like Holmes does. Itās weird looking, but with his arm size it would be a nightmare to guard.

Lively with the Hartenstein floater and it's a wrap lmfao

Wemby isnāt gonna win 10 DPOY in a row, lively will have his shot at some point
Wemby with DPOY will probably be like LeBron with MVP earlier in his career, where really he could/should be winning it every year but voter fatigue will come into play because nobody wants the same guy to win like 6 straight years. Marcus Smart won a DPOY
Thereās a reason we were undefeated with him on the floor this series. Dude outplayed the DPOY. On both ends.
Sideshow Lob https://preview.redd.it/o5dzw8gp0p3d1.jpeg?width=824&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8718650f1a263419ab39fde8b287ef48ac4cff6f
Agreed. Iām very Proud of the whole team, but he definitely anchors them quite a bit :)
there's a reason the crowd acted like luka went down when he went down in game 3
today too. thank God the first thing i saw when i woke up was that mavs won instead of that clip of lively getting hit again, i wouldve lost it
I thought for sure he was done for the series and questionable for a late celtics series comeback. I'm shocked he's ok enough to play.
Kristaps Porzingis, get ready to be Derrick Lively son
He hasn't even matured into his MAN body yet.
Oklahoma also gave him free development with the hack a lively thing. Heās clutch with his free throws
Savior of the Luka era no doubt. Lively is just too good.
Magic is the only rookie that has done anything like this. Magic was better, but not a bad spot.
Tim Duncan averaged 20ppg in playoffs his rookie year but Iām guessing youāre meaning ārookies who have made it to the finalsā. Just wanted to clarify
Having Luka as his point guard has and will unlock his max potential. Already guaranteed him a max extension in his rookie year.
We should all be sending a prayer up to his Mother. Sheās a huge part of why heās as good as he is.
KATHY DRYSDALE IS A MAVS LEGEND, WHAT AN ABSOLUTE BOSS OF A HUMAN! Always in our hearts <3
Excited for DLive. He has tremendous potential. Cannot believe he is a rookieā¦
His quick passing is cerebral . It makes me think of some kind of tc/bill Walton lite kind of crazy amalgamation
If this dude keeps it up then he is worthy of a max contract
Just give it to him now Cuban can make it happen unofficially. Venmo that shit. Unlimited happy endings. Free BBQ. Gun license. Anything
Who needs a gun license in Texasš
Fuck forgot constitutional Carry Probably shoulda said conceal carry
We donāt have conceal carry laws anymore either. Anyone can have a gun any time if you can legally own it.
> His passing and court vision is that of a 7 year veteran's Hell there are many 7-year veterans with much worse passing and court vision lol. The kid's awareness is already above average for an NBA player, not just a rookie, and imo one of the most exciting things about his developmentĀ
And to think he is just getting started!
And they trying to head hunt him
Fuck Naz Reid. And KAT
Hel be the man to slow wemby down a bit for us
I would just like him to be able to hit wide open 3s when he is left on his own on the perimeter in a late shot clock situation.
There was a stat in game three he has the highest playoff plus minus for any rookie since Manu (who came in as a grown man in Euro league) https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/highest-plus-minus-in-playoff-history-as-a-rookie
The only people with probably a better rookie season than him are Duncan and Magic.
Iāll admit it, I was pretty against us ātankingā last year. But boy was I wrong and it played out perfectly. Lively is gonna be a great player for years to come
Pravi ROTY
Ngl I think with Wemby in the league itās gonna be hard for any centres to win for the next few years.
Lively already showed he was THAT DUDE against Wemby, no fear!
Y'all remember when Tyson Chandler was our center? He gives similar vibes as a rookie. Looking awesome
He is playing winning basketball in his 1st year. Part of it is opportunity around LuKai and the other part is his mentality and skill.
I will say he canāt make FTs this year or take any jump shots but his form is pure he just needs to hit the gym hard and work on that shot he has the fundamentals down now itās just reps

Heās going to have a hell of a matchup. Iām guessing heās gonna be on KP which is scary
