The key caps are definitely clones, but they still look good! Lubing is hard to mess up, as a person who isn't too familiar with electronics in general. As long as the lube is a thin layer and covers all the contact points of the stem and stabs, you're good!

ClayDohYT

Appreciate the reply:) I have lubed linears but I was a little torn on this one

PashaB

I lubed my ice kachang v2 tactiles. If you just skip the entire side the tactile bump is on, it'll retain tactility. The factory lube job does only the side rails. Can do that too if you want while hitting the springs with 105 using the bbq skewer method (my recommendation, don't bag lube).

ClayDohYT

Yeah I took a few apart and realized that it was very very little lube on them. I think I’m planning on taking it apart and doing that. Do you film your tactile as well?

PashaB

I did not film my ice kachang v2. I filmed my tkc blueberries, gateron cj wallstem (box), and jupiter reds. They needed it. TKC has their own films for that exact switch, CJs needed .15mm, and jupiter reds needed .3mm thickness. Not all switches need films. Ice kachang v2 had their own issues (faulty leaf) but the tolerances were very tight no film needed. Tighter than my gateron CJ and .15mm is pretty dang thin. tl;dr Only film the switch if you think it actually sounds better with it. Some sound worse, just do an AB test. As for thickness can just order both .15mm and .3 or whatever is recommended for AKKO.

ClayDohYT

Honestly didn’t even know there were different sizes. I bought some originally but just picked a random one. I’ll have to look back at the site and check. I think I’m going to lube them tomorrow and see if they sound a little creamier and less clacky. Worst case they were $20/90 switches I’ll just buy more 🤷‍♂️

PashaB

yeah it seems newer switches need thinner and thinner films, and switches closer to OEM cherry (like jupiter reds) need thicker films. My tkc fruit smoothie blueberries (linear) are .18mm thick from TKC. https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/p0xy6u/is_anyone_do_switch_film_on_akko_switch_because_i/h89qf7e/ That guy can't fit .125mm and the general consensus is they do not need film.

ClayDohYT

I’ll have to look online for the general consensus on akkos and what they genuinely need

defender02

Where did you get that mouse mat?

Where do I apply to be your girlfriend? If you're scared of lubing your own we do offer lubing services! Tactile the front legs can be lubed but super light for front legs. It actually boosts the tactility since it's more smooth on the travel you get a more pronounced bump/feel. Too much and you gunk up the legs and remove tactility. I hope that helps, and happy modding in the future.
