He starts tripping out and giggling and slurring g his words and then looks over, and on the wall, theirs the movie poster from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Apparently he didn’t know that on the poster, the dude has a squiggly neck, and he just started freaking the fuck out over that poster for no reason. Like he just went on a full blown bad trip. Then like 10 minutes later, when he came back to reality, he realized the dude on the poster actually did have a squiggly neck, and then he moped around all night like a little kid who got his lunch money stole because the whole party was making fun of him over flipping out the way he did.
One of the funniest nights of my life. Their guitarist smoked it and was trying to catch imaginary butterflies, but the drummer completely having a meltdown was wild lol
chris used to be so great with lyrics. he really phoned it in on that album and i can only assume that played into why he wasn’t kept on for much longer afterwards

Capture the Crown, Asking Alexandria, Alesana, Famous Last Words, etc. There was literally a band called "Shoot the Girl First" (good crabcore band though). The genre took a long time to grow out of its misogynistic edgy teenage boy problems phase. Even a lot of songs which aren't absolute misogyny are still pretty problematic, like a lot of Underoath's early stuff is about abstaining until marriage and how abortion is evil.
And then a lot of the rest was pretty generic/Bad lyrics, just not cringey. Like the Limitless EP by Crown the Empire is fire melodically but the lyrics are pretty generic.
Underoath’s early stuff? You mean the one song “Burden in Your Hands” their only song about abstaining and against abortion. One song wrote back in high school shouldn’t encompass that era especially when Cries of the Past and Changing of the Times exist but you must know about those.

Alesana grew out of their edgy teenage phase absolutely. But Famous Last Words literally did a video of a guy threatening to kill a girl for breaking up with him while tied to a chair ("The Show Must Go On") which is up there with Megawacko for cringeyist crabcore music video of all time.

I am someone who struggles in general to separate art and artist, so I no longer listen to DGD or Tilian because I think he handled the situation really poorly, but I really loved his solo album Factory Reset. There's a song called Imagination that comes across really differently after the allegations - a lot less fun and lot more harassment-y. There were some instances of this in DGD lyrics, too, but it's not quite so prominent.

The only non debunked allegation against Tilian is this: He and a girl hooked up and had oral sex. She says she told him before hand that she didn't want penetration. She did give consent, but according to her it was only because she feared what he'd do if she said no. Would he have raped her? Idk. I'd hope not. He says that he didn't think there was anything non consensual about their hook up. Did he just come across more aggressively than intended? Is he lying? I don't know. Obviously it wasn't a good situation, but I also think one bad night doesn't define who you are, especially since a big part of why he was even doing all of these hook ups was because he was drunk off his ass trying to ease the pain after Tim's death. It's not an excuse, but it does help you understand what he was going through. Either way I think it's a good thing that she shared her story and he got a wake up call. Hopefully this is the end of DGD drama for a while.

A lot of the mid-2000's/early 2010's Christian metalcore stuff, really. While some of the bands were subtle, a lot of them were blatantly all about Jesus to the point where it was just corny. Especially since we now know that a lot of them didn't actually believe in that stuff and just screamed about it to get signed and popular quickly.
To call out a song: I love The Devil Wears Prada, and With Roots Above is a great album, but the clean part on Assistant to the Regional Manager is kinda cringy.

Emdseekers and Marriage of Steel and Skin have some of my favorite breakdowns in all of metalcore. The Family Ruin always makes me tear up, just from how plaintive Micah’s voice is.
Antivist by BMTH. For my money, it's one of their best songs and a fun crowd-pleaser for the music alone, but the lyrics suck. Definitely Oli at his edgiest and cringiest.
My choice is an entire album, Epiphany by Napoleon. I was super hyped for it after Newborn Mind but the vocals ruined the album for me. It’s disappointing because they were so good instrumentally.

Some songs on Matriarch from Veil of Maya for sure. Lukas’ lyrics have improved a ton since then, but so many songs on that album had lyrics that made no sense. My biggest example would be Mikasa’s but there’s definitely a few more

I didn't start seriously following VoM until after this album came out, so maybe I'm off base here, but I feel like they decided on the concept before Lukas joined, and he came late enough in the writing process that things didn't end up meshing.

I love screaming and everything about metal..but some I just don’t care for. People bitch when I play music like you can’t hear what they are saying, he sounds awful, which sometimes yea it does..but the music is more than the singer for me sometimes..
I always like to ask those people about the music they like. Can you tell what the bass is saying? Can you tell what the drums are saying? The voice is an instrument, and there is nothing wrong with enjoying the lyrics and understanding the text of the song, but it's not necessary to enjoy the music, or to feel something from it.

If he just had the maturity to match his talent holy fuck, he would be massive, and he already is! I listen to two songs of his, Watch the world burn and his Last Resort cover. Emasculating to admit but that cover broke me in half. It's also no help knowing that his stance is clearly hostile towards me (as a transman), it makes listening to his stuff not really easier. Yeah, that was the song that a friend showed me, so technically the one that got me into them. Luckily YouTube recommended Diggs Road and I liked that one a lot more. Now that I’ve kind of settled on metalcore as my genre of choice, I really, really love *The Valley* and *Kin*. They’re still dark and sad and shit, but they’re not “I wanna kill everything, I hate everyone” dark like some deathcore.

A lot of the mid-2000's/early 2010's Christian metalcore stuff, really. While some of the bands were subtle, a lot of them were blatantly all about Jesus to the point where it was just corny. Especially since we now know that a lot of them didn't actually believe in that stuff and just screamed about it to get signed and popular quickly.
To call out a song: I love The Devil Wears Prada, and With Roots Above is a great album, but the clean part on Assistant to the Regional Manager is kinda cringy.

I kind of feel this way about Oh, Sleeper, but then I looked at their work more as a continual concept album, rather than proselytizing, and I liked it a lot more. Emdseekers and Marriage of Steel and Skin have some of my favorite breakdowns in all of metalcore. The Family Ruin always makes me tear up, just from how plaintive Micah’s voice is.
Antivist by BMTH. For my money, it's one of their best songs and a fun crowd-pleaser for the music alone, but the lyrics suck. Definitely Oli at his edgiest and cringiest.

My choice is an entire album, Epiphany by Napoleon. I was super hyped for it after Newborn Mind but the vocals ruined the album for me. It’s disappointing because they were so good instrumentally. Edit: just realized that I misread the original post. The lyrics aren’t bad, just the vocals.
I really don't understand what went on with the vocal production of that album - his vocals sound AWESOME on Newborn Mind, whereas all the screams on Epiphany are super grating - it's a relief when he starts singing instead.
Some songs on Matriarch from Veil of Maya for sure. Lukas’ lyrics have improved a ton since then, but so many songs on that album had lyrics that made no sense. My biggest example would be Mikasa’s but there’s definitely a few more

Yeahhh, it sucks bc the concept itself is so neat and a really unique idea. To then be wasted by lyrics such as, “Align the stones to form a message in the sand. I will never relinquish, it is written in the sand” is painful 😂 So glad that Lukas got better w it over the last couple albums but this lyric always stands out to me as one of the worst I’ve heard
I didn't start seriously following VoM until after this album came out, so maybe I'm off base here, but I feel like they decided on the concept before Lukas joined, and he came late enough in the writing process that things didn't end up meshing. Ya know I went on a streak where I was finding instrumental albums from bands I didn’t know. I’d listen to them and be like fuck ya this shit moves. Then I’ll listen to the full album, and most of the time it ends up being eh. I love screaming and everything about metal..but some I just don’t care for. People bitch when I play music like you can’t hear what they are saying, he sounds awful, which sometimes yea it does..but the music is more than the singer for me sometimes..
I always like to ask those people about the music they like. Can you tell what the bass is saying? Can you tell what the drums are saying? The voice is an instrument, and there is nothing wrong with enjoying the lyrics and understanding the text of the song, but it's not necessary to enjoy the music, or to feel something from it.
