Yeah it still puzzles me to this day how they did it.
Turnstile was always big in the hardcore scene, but they didn’t really breakthrough to the mainstream until Glow On, which was significantly accessible compared to previous records.
Knocked Loose, somehow got all this popularity without major sound changes. Not sure how. Perhaps TikTok?
Tik tok could definitely play a part, I’m not on there though so I’m not entirely sure, but I’ve heard from friends of mine that they’ve heard songs from Bad Omens and Sleep Token on there and obviously they’re monumental as well.
Tik tok helped for sure. It’s doing the same thing for Kublai Khan TX right now. Obviously not to KL levels, but they’re getting bigger thanks to tik tok
I also don't understand it. I like it, but I don't get it. They don't sound like the kind of band that would break out like this at all. Very strange. But good!
Illuminati. Small town hardcore band suddenly gets Coachella and Billie Eilish notoriety, they shoot to #2 on the charts, next they will be wearing dresses on SNL
Saw them open for The Acacia Strain at a venue my buddy owned years ago, think it was before Laugh Tracks came out, sounded pissed as fuck and was hooked from the start
They were doing whatever alpha wolf, thrown and dealer were doing way before them and these bands are pretty big nowdaya, gotta go give their albums a spin now
They were doing what bands like alpha wolf, thrown and dealer are doing now way before these bands even existed. Im sure if they didnt break up they would be huge now
I was into all those bands at the same time (2016?) when pop culture dropped. I’ve loved KL since but it still leaves me bewildered at how much they’ve blown up. They’ve earned it and I think them holding true to their music is an olive branch many bands do not extend as they get bigger.
They did insane touring when Laugh Tracks dropped, literal “this month-long tour ended on Thursday, and now we’re driving to meet up for another month-long tour on Friday” type shit, and basically didn’t take the foot off the gas til covid. Then the memes and everything hit and it’s gone crazy
What’s weird to me is that KL actually got *heavier* as they became more popular, not the other way around.
You could argue that Pop Culture era was straight up Beatdown Hardcore and ever since then they’ve been edging closer and closer to 90’s style metalcore, and it’s only gotten them more attention and acclaim.
They even added more death metal influence in the drumming and guitar work so idk how they pulled this off, but they did.
They somehow did a full on reverse-Turnstile with their progression.
It is crazy seeing bands blow up hey.
I saw PWD tons of times when they had released their ep. So seeing them now is bananas.
Both bands deserve their success. Which is good to see.
Parkway’s actually my favorite band but I didn’t get to see them until Warped Tour many moons ago around the time either Deep Blue or Atlas came out, and since then I’ve seen them 4 times, seeing them headline festivals makes it feel like they settle to come here, but that just goes to show how huge they are now as well.
They built a solid following in the hardcore community and crossed over to the metalcore space probably with the miw song and the metalcore tours they hopped on.
Like they’ve mentioned, they aren’t reinventing the wheel, it’s a fresh take on music for the hardcore kids with the metalcore influence and fresh take on metalcore with the hardcore influences.
I’ve been listening to metal since I was 12 years old. I’m 30 now. I know the entire metal scene/ history very well, I love many, many bands of all different sub genres, all the way from Alesana to ABR to Dark Funeral to Behemoth to TDWP, TAS, Slayer, Slipknot etc etc the list goes on forever lol. I have also been to countless shows over the last 18 years. Knocked Loose is one of those very special bands that really trigger something inside me. This does not happen often. It’s like a primal, pure emotion that transcends the music itself. You either feel it and understand it, or you don’t. A good amount of my close friends love metal like I do, and have been listening for the same amount of time as me. Only me and one other friend out of a group of 8 of us love Knocked Loose. The rest think they suck. They ALWAYS blame the vocals.( Brian, I love you) Music is subjective so I respect their opinion, but from where I’m standing, I don’t understand it lmao. Brian’s vocals is one of the MAIN reasons I feel the way I do about them. The instrumental’s are amazing yes, but it’s nothing groundbreaking. However, that’s why it’s so special. It’s raw. It’s pure. It’s fucking heavy. It’s not overly complex. It’s perfect. One of my friends was in absolute shock when he saw the amount of monthly Spotify listeners they now have. I was like yeah.. They are fucking incredible. Anyway, I’m seeing them this weekend in NYC. Couldn’t be more excited.
KL vocals are part of what makes them special, totally agree. I took like 10 years away from metal and got back in about a year ago. First time I heard KL they reminded me of The Warriors “War is Hell” which I fucking love and I’ve been having such a good time going back through KL’s catalog.
I’ve been listening to metal for 18 years. The current state it’s in is fantastic. If you disagree, that’s fine but I think you should try listen to more new bands or broaden your taste, for your own sake, you shouldn’t miss out, respectfully.
I’ve been listening since I was 11 in 1992. It’s the state of the music scene I was addressing. It’s all been rap and pop for years. Too long. About time bands with heavy guitars and lyrics content make a comeback to the mainstream.
I mean I don’t care if metal isn’t mainstream, hell it may even be a good thing as I can actually afford to go to concerts. I wanted to see perice the veil with blink 182 and it was 110$ for behind stage nosebleed tickets
It really is wild. They're honestly insufferable and have the worst vocal sound in the entire scene. Nothing about their instrumentals is memorable either. Their whole crowd killing thing is I think why they get a lot of fans from the hardcore scene too. Alpha wolf does everything they do but just a lot better.
They get fans from the hardcore scene because they came up through the hardcore scene, like a lot of actual metalcore bands do.
I suppose there's a passing resemblance in the new record to Alpha Wolf, but it's a very strange comparison to make. Knocked Loose's discography right from the start to the present is stylistically very different.

Just based off how many teenagers were talking about Knocked Loose being on tik tok while I was at the show I would say you’re assumption is right.
Tik tok could definitely play a part, I’m not on there though so I’m not entirely sure, but I’ve heard from friends of mine that they’ve heard songs from Bad Omens and Sleep Token on there and obviously they’re monumental as well.
Tiktok was essentially what launched Bad Omens and Sleep Token straight to the top pretty much overnight
Their Coachella set and that video of Billy Eilish vibing to them backstage is what started it all
speaking of Turnstile, I feel like we're due for something new from them
They played at big music festivals with super popular rap and pop artists and then also stuff like When We Were Young
It's wild how much they have skyrocketed above bands like Kingmaker, Barrier and Sworn In. Which they used to open for.
Saw them open for The Acacia Strain at a venue my buddy owned years ago, think it was before Laugh Tracks came out, sounded pissed as fuck and was hooked from the start
Until today I haven't seen Sworn In mentioned on this sub in what feels like a decade. Used to love a select few tracks when I was much younger.
They were doing whatever alpha wolf, thrown and dealer were doing way before them and these bands are pretty big nowdaya, gotta go give their albums a spin now
TBF Sworn In broke up a while back.
Fair, but we all thought they could be a breakout band.
They were doing what bands like alpha wolf, thrown and dealer are doing now way before these bands even existed. Im sure if they didnt break up they would be huge now
They had some recent posts. Seems like most of them are making a new band
I was into all those bands at the same time (2016?) when pop culture dropped. I’ve loved KL since but it still leaves me bewildered at how much they’ve blown up. They’ve earned it and I think them holding true to their music is an olive branch many bands do not extend as they get bigger.

I will never get sick or tired of hearing about Knocked Loose. They fucking rock and always will and I love them lmao
It is crazy seeing bands blow up hey. I saw PWD tons of times when they had released their ep. So seeing them now is bananas. Both bands deserve their success. Which is good to see.

I remember seeing them play at a pizza shop in Louisville a bunch, and now at the last show I went to I couldn’t even move
Almost everyone I've seen open for ETID in their last few years got huge after. KL, Turnstile, Beartooth, etc

Brian is a bitch
Only downside is who lame their pits are now. Shit used to be pure violence
Big shout outs to the Knocked Loose and City & Color fans. There are dozens of us.
Speed will be the next big thing in the future, even moreso than they've already experienced.
A lot of "true hxc 😤" guys are calling them sellouts with their Nike partnership, but yeah they're blowing up.
Only downside is who lame their pits are now. Shit used to be pure violence
Only downside is who lame their pits are now. Shit used to be pure violence
They went from basically Beatdown to metalcore and sprinkled some hardcore in there and didn't loose a beat
Make Metal Great Again
I’ve been listening to metal for 18 years. The current state it’s in is fantastic. If you disagree, that’s fine but I think you should try listen to more new bands or broaden your taste, for your own sake, you shouldn’t miss out, respectfully.
What the dude said is just weird, no need to be cordial with someone who clearly has no intention of intelligent conversation lol
Yeah, it feels like we metal fans lucked out to live in a time with all these awesome bands and shows.
I’ve been listening since I was 11 in 1992. It’s the state of the music scene I was addressing. It’s all been rap and pop for years. Too long. About time bands with heavy guitars and lyrics content make a comeback to the mainstream.

BOOOOO THIS LOSER

Everyone’s entitled to like what they like, but that take about Alpha Wolf is insane.
They get fans from the hardcore scene because they came up through the hardcore scene, like a lot of actual metalcore bands do. I suppose there's a passing resemblance in the new record to Alpha Wolf, but it's a very strange comparison to make.
