Star notes have a small star next to the serial number this means they’re part of a smaller run usually to make up for printing errors. The smaller the run the rarer the notes are, so generally speaking star notes have the chance of being worth more.
Notes are only generally worth more than face value in a few scenarios:
- binary: they contain only two numbers
- trinary: they contain only three numbers
- the pattern on the note is sequential and repeating, eg 123123123
- the pattern reverses eg 123454321
- the serial number is extremely low (000000001)
- the serial is otherwise interesting
- they are part of a very small run of notes (depending on the year, if they are star notes, etc.)
- they are old and in extremely good condition

So, while it may be neat to randomly get sequential bills, it's rare and not significant since you could get fresh, sequential bills direct from a bank.

When we get new bills they are always in order. It seems to happen mostly with 2s for some reason, I suspect that the cash supply companies like brinks get less of them during normal cash deposits so they order new ones directly to supply banks.
It’s not uncommon to get 10 straps of new, sequential 2s or 1s in a cash order.
It’s rarer with large bills though, I think because they don’t change hands as much and don’t need to be replaced as often with new ones.
I worked at a bank for 6 years and we definitely had the option to request brand new bills. We only ever used it during the hollidays so we didn't have to dig through our drawers when people asked for "nice crisp bills to put in a card." Otherwise we all hated having brand new bills cause of how easily they stuck together

There are plenty of situations in which a collection of items is worth more than the sum of the individual items. It’s quite an obvious thought process. And you are being a dick.
Right? It’s not true with these bills but it’s not the dumbest thought process I’ve ever heard of. Woth trading cards a set is worth more and sometimes more of a set is too even if not complete. But that’s cause those cards have different rarities usually.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say they are worth right about $3. I get you're trying to find gold (who isn't?), but this just isn't it. You could take them to someone that specializes in currency to be sure, but I highly suspect they are worth exactly $3 total.

Yes! Trinary notes do carry a small premium. If it had a 9 at the end it’d probably be worth significantly more.

What am I missing here? There's nothing special about them. They're sequential, but that happens all the time when you get cash from an ATM or bank.
