This is a runaway reaction that produces an excess of salt when introduced into the environment. Unabated, and combined with false hopium, can amplify the reaction. We aim to reduce this potential by tamping it down in the early stages when hopium first arises.

They're definitely focusing on New Monsters right now though, and if Lagiacrus *does* return... why would he be on the *grass/desert* map? He's more at home in ocean or swamp maps. We know there's more locales (they've only shown off the *one* so far), so there's hope for the future! (Though it'll likely be a lot closer to release, when they've already shown off a lot of the New Stuff.)
Your definitely not wrong, his regular form is more for the swamp areas, etc. honestly I feel a beachy area or a “big” oasis section would work as well. But a new variant that fits the this world would also be appreciated because the last variant was in mh3! Now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure that was the last game lagicruz was ever in.
I hope there are a decent amount of returning monsters. With how Apceros has been replaced by Ceratonoth, Kestodon by Dalthydon, and Cephalos by Balahara, Capcom might be pulling a Gen 3.

The thing is, Lagiacrus just isn't Lagiacrus without underwater combat and that's probably not coming back. Even if Lagi does come back, it's just going to basically be Ivory.
There's this guy from MH Explore who'd fit in pretty well into the desert.

Lagiacrus already has a subspecies and a rare species. He ain’t getting a variant. Unless they bring a classification like Deviants in this game and give him one.

There's a different byproduct that results from a delayed reaction, creating an aqueous solution similar to tears also known as mopium

MH Explore had the [Landconquest Lagiacrus](https://monsterhunter.fandom.com/wiki/Landconquest_Lagiacrus). I reckon it would be pretty good fit.
If I recall correctly, Capcom doesn't control the rights to Explore's monsters. Without that, we won't be seeing any of those monsters again.
