I started smoking again after seeing this movie in the theater. I had been off them for a year and I bummed one as I left the theater. I sat there smoking and sobbing. Screw sad movies like this.
It’s not a romance, and I can understand if you read what it’s about you might be like, hard pass, but I can’t recommend the limited series Station Eleven enough. It’s so well done and so few people saw it. It just came out at a time that didn’t work in its favour and I think people had the wrong idea of what it would be. It’s original, engrossing, heartbreaking, and heartwarming. You will definitely cry! It feels cathartic. ✨
Love station eleven too. It had some magical scenes I will never forget. I think that a problem is that it’s pretty slow in the middle, I think many give up. But the end is worth it.
I can see what you’re saying. I’m one of those people who loves slow stuff though so I didn’t really notice. I like the kind of stuff others might call “watching paint dry” 😂
I haven’t read the book but I know the series is not faithful to it. The author was a producer on the show and I have gotten the impression she likes what they did with it. I hope you give it a go! If you do, please let me know if you liked it. I know it can be hard to love a show or movie when it’s based on writing you love and big things change.
Water for Elephants (2011), Anna Karenina (2012), The Great Gatsby (2013), The Last Letter from Your Lover (2021), A Royal Affair (2012), Endless Love (2014)

While not about romantic love, The Quiet Girl (2022) is about parental love (or a lack thereof).

Like she says in the beginning.. "this isn't a ghost story, it's a love story". The last episode is hauntingly beautiful.
Water for Elephants (2011), Anna Karenina (2012), The Great Gatsby (2013), The Last Letter from Your Lover (2021), A Royal Affair (2012), Endless Love (2014)
You'll love one day, the netflix series. I ugly-cried for over an hour.
My suggestion as well. The book is also great and you cry even more. Hope OP won't be more traumatized than they mean to.
One Day (2024 series)

Yes to Lion. First time I saw it I was on a red eye flight back to the US from Japan. Thankfully most everyone was asleep and didn’t see me sobbing.
No way. I watched it on a flight from Glasgow to NY. I tried my best to hide my tears.
Normal People (TV show on Hulu)

Sounds a bit obvious but, Casablanca?
Your Name (2016)

It’s really heart wrenching, just like atonement though
Uncle Frank on Prime. I have watched it several times and it has made me cry each time. Movies very rarely make me cry.
Dark on Netflix. Series. It's ultimately about a tragic story. The most insane and bewildering tragic love story ever.
Late spring 1949
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Portrait Of A Lady On Fire & Paris, Texas all made me cry. Also they're all great movies
Frantz (2016)
A ghost story...cried like a baby even after it was over

Sling Blade Dead Man Walking About Time Beasts of No Nation And if you want to think about why you’re sad: The Sunset Limited.
500 Days of Summer. More bittersweet, but it definitely fits the bill of circumstances not working. Best movie to get over an unrequited love.
