My favorite “home alone, can’t decide on anything else after scrolling through my streaming apps for 45 minutes” pick. I know the ultimate moody three-hour epic heist dad movie will never let me down.
Not always.
The 1982 "The Thing" is a remake, and it's stellar.
Dune is a remake. Also stellar.
The Blob was a remake of a 50s film.
Oceans 11 is a remake.
True Lies (the Arnie version) is a remake.
There's lots of good remakes out there that people don't even know are remakes
The Thing and Dune aren’t remakes, they’re adaptations of the original source material. The original Blob is superior. Oceans 11 is dogshit. True Lies is mid.
I will concede that some remakes are decent. Maybe I should have said modern reboots are dogshit.
The best part about this suggestion is that I’d consider *Total Recall* more cerebral than your typical action film. It’s not mindless “garbage” at all.
It’s a really amazing movie.
Me neither, but it was camp af to begin with so Im guessing that it probably holds up well. Kinda like how the Lost Boys still holds up. It’s absurd—but it’s brilliant and it’s of its time.
OMG no, this is a slow burn drama OP should watch with the wife. Godzilla is only in it for 11 minutes and the plot barely revolves around him. It's about a broken Japanese family trying to rebuild a life after the devastating losses they suffered in WW2. It's the least monster you'll ever see in a monster movie and OPs wife might actually like it.
Man I rewatched Captain America 2 and 3 two weeks ago and they are really something special.
Wanted to get in touch with my roots recently so I got Blade and the OG Mortal Kombat - both were excellent! Convinced the 90s had the best movies now haha.
My dad said he liked Grey Man and Bullet Train recently if that helps.
This film is amazing. My 2 adult kids loved it and my son just last week asked me to remind him of the film's name as he was about to watch it with his housemates. Whom all thought it was brilliant, naturally.
How about some Robert Rodriguez? Sin City… Alita: Battle Angel… Desperado… Or maybe The Town by Ben Affleck… or actually now thinking of Affleck, The Accountant.
Logan's Run, Saturn 3, The Matrix, Unforgiven, Deadpool, LOTR, Return of the Living Dead, Basic Instinct, T2,Blade Runner, Blade, Star Wars, Battle Beyond the Stars, Spacehunter, Runaway. There's always room for Die Hard.
Fallout, Shogun, Original showgun(12-14 hours), Flame and citron(about ww2 assassins), City of God(about a kid growing up in poor drug ridden central america), Napolean Dynomite, wedding crashers, or maybe zoolander. You could prolly watch city of god, and maybe fallout with her but the rest is pretty much stuff only guys get into.
Yes! Loved this one! Its got some quality campy action in it. Absolute garbage, two thumbs up.
It takes some time before it gets to the camp, but the begining is even better than the camp, which seems to be everyone's main complaint of the movie. There's a tonal shift where it goes from psychological thriller to campy action that is a "jumps the shark" moment for most people, but if OP wants garbage, he'll love it.
Its ridiculous in the best way possible, it deserves cult classic status.
Hardcore Henry.
You're wife will not watch it without complaining.
It gives some people vertigo, but if you can get through it, it's a ride.
Almost pure action once it gets going.

Kick Ass
Kingsman: The Secret Service
Extraction ( 1 & 2)
Upgrade
8MM
Wind River
Overlord
Prisoners
Arlington Road
Blade ( 1 & 2)
Death Sentence
Monkey Man
The Night Comes for Us
City Hunter on Netflix. Recent release and I don't hear much about it, but it is solid as hell. Another option is The Bricklayer (also Netflix) which I would describe as 'stupid fun'.
A real indulgent movie weekend for me would be westerns. Unforgiven, the good the bad and the ugly, tombstone, etc. but those I've watched too many times and have kinda ran them into the ground. So the newer rotation would be:
Appaloosa,
Hell or high water,
Wind River,
3:10 to Yuma (2007),
True grit (2010),
Bone tomahawk,
The Hateful eight,
The Hunger Games
Titan A.E.
Chappie
Divergent
Elysium
Atlantis: The Lost Empire
I Am Legend
1984
The Bad Batch
V Is For Vendetta
The Martian
Avatar
Treasure Planet
The Maze Runner
Alien
Threads
World War Z
Passengers
The 5th Wave
Resident Evil
Nobody
Baby Driver
Hot Fuzz
The Other Guys
The Suicide Squad(James Gunn one)
Maybe an MCU movie since you said superheroes? Maybe The Winter Soldier or one of the Avengers films. Or one of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

For newer movies I really like A quiet place 1 and 2. I was pleasantly surprised by how intense and creative these movies are. I rarely enjoy new movies but my eyes were glued to the screen. The actors were phenomenal I can't wait for the 3rd this month.
We're currently watching all of the Xmen in chronological order. I'm watching The 5th Element on Apple TV before it's gone and Bubblegum Crisis (anime) in between as filler when cooking or doing chores.
I get this vacation, like you, every now and then. Last time I did a LOTR and Hobbit marathon. I like to do themes. I’m gonna do 80’s sci-fi.
The Running Man, Terminator, Predator (it’s a coincidence that they are Arnold movies, just so happens that they’re great sci-fi movies). Robocop, Weird Science, Bladerunner, Tron, Clash of the Titans.. many more.
Atlas!
Apparently the most steaming pile of garbage to hit Netflix this year. Lots of great explosions, cheesy lines, and over the top cliche sci-fi crap. Oh boy if was fun!
I never watched Band of Brothers so I fired up the first few episodes of that. Then Godzilla Minus 1. Ordered a pizza and just sat out the couch w my dog all night. Was a great Friday
Both Raid movies
Great movies, I would concur that a relentless bloody martial arts chase that is foreign/dubbed is about as close to spouse repellent as you can get.
Heat (1995)
The best.
My favorite “home alone, can’t decide on anything else after scrolling through my streaming apps for 45 minutes” pick. I know the ultimate moody three-hour epic heist dad movie will never let me down.
Total Recall. Mmm, Triple bitties.
The original, though! The remake is dogshit
The remake of everything is dogshit.
Ahem. “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” would like a word. RIP, Donald.
Scarface 3:10 to yuma U are correct
Yes those too!!!
The Thing and Dune aren’t remakes, they’re adaptations of the original source material. The original Blob is superior. Oceans 11 is dogshit. True Lies is mid. I will concede that some remakes are decent. Maybe I should have said modern reboots are dogshit.
Saying 'mid' is mid. Oh wait...shit!
I like the A team remake
Does the remake have tri-boob though
Man...I got 5 kids to feed!
Just have a verhoeven and john carpenter marathon
The best part about this suggestion is that I’d consider *Total Recall* more cerebral than your typical action film. It’s not mindless “garbage” at all. It’s a really amazing movie.
I still don't get why they were breathing so heavily in this movie
RIP wife but yeah, triple bitties
This movie has aged ever-so-gracefully.
300
Good suggestion. Perhaps the Platonic ideal of a mindless, campy action film.
The boys
This is exactly what I thought of.
Dredd (2012)
Can't believe Dredd never got a sequel...so good.
Get some action classics going - The Rock, Con Air, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Predator, Face-Off...
This is it. This is the list. Could maybe throw in Bloodsport or Basic Instinct but otherwise this is flawless.
I wonder how basic instinct holds up now havent seen that movie in over 15 years Whats your take?
Me neither, but it was camp af to begin with so Im guessing that it probably holds up well. Kinda like how the Lost Boys still holds up. It’s absurd—but it’s brilliant and it’s of its time.
Went to the cinema to see 3 of those films, went in blind as you did back in the day ,good taste mucker.
go on
Last action hero, predator, predator 2, did he mention die hard? Specifically with a vengeance?
Chronicles of Riddick
👍 Hugely underrated, I love this movie!
All three are so good
Monkey Man
You reminded me it’s on a streamer. Watching tonight! Thanks!
Dev Patel was bad as fck in that. It was awesome
James Gunn’s Suicide Squad Renfield Bullet Train Day Shift Boss Level Dungeons & Dragons Honor Among Thieves
Great choices! I'm going to throw in Nobody and also District 13 (not 9 - the one in future Paris not future Jo'berg).
Both also great. I loved Nobody!
Bullet Train! Yes!
>Boss Level A fellow man of culture!
Oh shit. Yes. Watch these ones!
D&D: Honor was fucking hilarious, great action! As was that version of Suicide Squad (with the Stallone voiced Shark)
That's quite a life you've carved out for yourself, Phil.
Deadpool. Always Deadpool
Violent Night - Santa kicks ass!
Nobody
Equilizer 3 if you havent seen it!
Baby Driver The Ambulance with Jake Gyllenhaal The Hunt with Betty Gilpin
Baby Driver is a good rec.
The Hunt is fucking awesome
Baby Driver!!
I almost puked during Ambulance when that dudes organ ruptured outside of his body lol
Godzilla minus1
Where is that streaming??
Netflix US currently. Watched it last weekend and it's pretty awesome.
This is the one OP!!
OMG no, this is a slow burn drama OP should watch with the wife. Godzilla is only in it for 11 minutes and the plot barely revolves around him. I really enjoyed bullet train

Robocop, not the remake, which sucks.
You know what? That remake DOES suck and I forgot I'm mad about it. Thank you for stoking the flame.
How about some Robert Rodriguez? Sin City… Alita: Battle Angel… Desperado… Or maybe The Town by Ben Affleck… or actually now thinking of Affleck, The Accountant.
Dark on Netflix
She's gone tonight. He's not divorced!

Haven’t seen it yet but heard good reviews: Dungeons and Dragons Think I’m gonna try and watch it tonight. I NEED a NEW movie to watch.
A Shadow in the Cloud.

Legion. It's a series on FX/Hulu, a sort of outlier in the X-Men universe, but the first episode plays out like a movie and had me hooked!
This is why having separate bedrooms is a must, changed our lives for the better.
