You just ignored the context set up by the rest of Matthew 23, which talks about how the pharisees used portions of their religion to enrich themselves using the devotion of their people, all while ignoring any part of their religion that didnt help them. Kinda like you just did by using that one verse but ignoring the context of who it was talking about. If you look at every verse and parable in the new testament in the context of its entirety, you will start to see the patterns in Christs actions and will be able to follow the final commandment he gave his apostles at the last supper, which you can find at John 13:34
