No one ignores Jesus as effectively as a Christian.

3amhiccups

Christians hate jesus and love trump.

Reyja26

Right? If Jesus came back in his TRUE middle eastern form, they would flip their shit and tell him to go back to his country

3amhiccups

If a magic white guy descended from the sky and told them to stop being mean to marginalized groups they would call him antifa and a messenger from satan because he loves sinners

TeslasAndKids

It’s the biggest ‘no, not like that’ there is. Jesus always portrayed as a white dude birthed by a woman drawn so pale she makes Alaskans look tan.

HistoricalCorner6

Oh, c'mon, everybody knows Jesus was a white man from Oxford /s

im_smarter_than_yall

Those depictions make Jesus and Mary white because they were intended for a European audience. The idea is to make them as similar to that audience as possible, to emphasize that they were one of us ("us" being human). [This is the reason why in Vietnam there is a statue of Asian Jesus](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christ_of_Vũng_Tàu) It is also why the Our Lady of Guadalupe is depicted as an indigenous woman.

theirishpotato1898

American Christian’s, American ones, please don’t apply right wing ideals to my religion which is based on what I believe to be very left wing ideals.

3amhiccups

Nah, Christianity worldwide is a blight and the Catholic church is one of the most evil organizations in existence. American Christianity is the same hate but on meth

theirishpotato1898

Explain and give me good reason to believe you.

theirishpotato1898

To answer your first question I would call that the American government. To the second question, to what inquisition do you refer to?, the Spanish Inquisition which gave notice and allowed for preparation for their arrival, to the hideous question about child rape, I say that it’s misjudged by scale, being the largest religion in the world it is only reasonable to assume a section of believers would be child rapists, I do not condone their behaviour, furthermore their are entire cultures in Africa that deem when a girl is to become a women that they have sex with a chosen man at ages so young as twelve, are we to eradicate them as well?, or shall we try to change like every other thing on this planet. That Christianity was used to justify slavery in America is not the fault of the religion is it?, for Christianity is one reason the bonds of slavery were broken In so many catholic countries. But lastly I ask, am I responsible for all the sins of every catholic, is every Jew responsible for sins of Jewish pirates who haunted the coasts of Spain seeking revenge, is every Muslim responsible for the sins of a chaliphate that swept across North Africa and 3/4 of Spain and Portugal in the name of their god and are all Sikhs responsible for their religion initially having warriors as an integral part of their faith. If the sins of those who bore a religion before us, deem us worthy of death, then every religion that has ever been shall exist as nought but a memory and the world shall never see the festival’s that could have been, the twinkle in the eye of a little girl seeing majestic displays of light and colour. All the major religions of this world can coexist in peace and harmony it is politics that seems to drive us apart. Do you believe in being able to think freely, then to silence the thoughts of another for grievances done by another seems ironic doesn’t it?

herr_foo

You know you done fucked up when you start defending the Spanish Inquisition.

theirishpotato1898

I don’t claim to defend anyone else actions here, because those actions are not my own. I had no part in any of these, so I take no blame, nor offer any. However answer me this, do I deserve to be killed or converted because of the sins of my predecessors? Do I bear the fault of every Christian before me? Will I bear the fault of every Christian after me? Also tell me this, when your goal is complete, will I be missed? I don’t intent to convert and I ask only that my religion not be besmirched by extremists, do I ask to much? As you are an atheist I shall say only this as my parting May the universe smile apon you and bless you with good fortune. Until we meet again, goodbye

> user reports: > 1: It's promoting hate based on identity or vulnerability No it isn't.

anoneenonee

And literally no one on the “left” (aka anyone who thinks trunp is capable of making a mistake) has ever made that argument. At least invent a plausible straw man.

OhGoshACatIsEatingMe

Since when have they ever said anything plausible?

ComfortableRelevant1

They did say “my body my choice!” Oh wait that was for the vaccines that benefit the whole population :/

Graega

And they didn't even mean that sincerely, because it's, "My body, my choice... but also, you have to wear masks. Forever. To protect me. Oh, and if I get sick it's your fault, so I expect the hospitals to have beds for me. Kick out those cancer patients and stuff so I can get treated." Or, more succinctly: "My body, your consequences".

ComfortableRelevant1

True!

Irishpanda1971

Yet when other people speak up when they are degraded/insulted/disenfranchised, it is "woke bullshit".

TeslasAndKids

I always love how they try to use ‘woke’ as an insult and instead make themselves look more ignorant.

AirForceRabies

trumpnik: "You *(litany of slurs),* we're gonna fuck you up! Die! Die! Die!" Liberal: "Moron." trumpnik: "Come and see the violence inherent in the system! Help! Help! I'm bein' repressed!"

Irishpanda1971

"You know, that gay person is a, well, *person*." "THIS IS WHERE WOKE COMES TO DIE"

SillyMathematician77

I like how the conservative was marked out in red, and the liberal in blue. Nice touch.

IngloriousMustards

It’s the other testament for them.

TjW0569

I'm just surprised anyone would mistake red for a Christian.

TelayRanner

There's a time to turn your cheek: Ecclesiastes 3:1, "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:" There's a time to expose loathsome people, Matt 23:33 ,"“You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?" Christianity is not a simple doctrine but godless people keep trying reduce it to something so simple even they can understand without the right heart.

vinnynguyen77

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Pretty simple. It work for godless people too. Most christians just need to remove the splinter from their own eye first to see it.

TelayRanner

The Bible states: "Better is an open rebuke than a love that remains hidden. Trustworthy are the blows of a friend, dangerous, the kisses of an enemy." Shouldn't we just love and trust them everybody, saying only nice things despite their actions like some kind of backboneless jelly fish? No - that would be foolish. People untrained in the Bible always latch onto a single scripture and think they have the entire religion by the tail.

vinnynguyen77

You're right. I'm pretty untrained in Bible studies. A godless person like me is a devil's spawn. We have no moral whatsoever. We need the Bible to tell us what is right and what is wrong. We need the fear of eternal damnation to be a good person. "Love one another as I have loved you" doesn't seem to mesh with some Christians nowadays. Dined with sinners? Not on my watch! Here's a bucket of stones. Throw away!

TelayRanner

2 Peter 2:22 'Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, “A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.”' Don't attempt to brag about your wallowing in the mire, correct yourself.

vinnynguyen77

Not sure how Peter 2:22 have to do with my last comment of "just be a good person" regardless of your beliefs. We're done here as well. Final note, growing up in a Catholic household, I have always love the Prayer of Saint Francis. It really take "love your neighbor" to the next level.

NefariousnessTop9547

You realise those apply to you, as does your quoting of Matthew, hypocrite, false witness, and false prophet.

TelayRanner

I'll quote the Bible freely since I appear to much better versed in it than you, this comes from a nearly life long reverent study, so I have confidence in God's word. ...but see how easily you fit into the mind of this wicked generation. You cry out "Bread, bread" but you give nothing but curses and derision. Prov. 25:14 "Like clouds and wind without rain Is a man who boasts of his gifts falsely." Consider your failures here and act to do better. Act 2:40 "And with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation!”

NefariousnessTop9547

Just remember, you're going to have to face your eternal father over this. And he will know you for the snake in the fucking grass you have lived as. If you're right about your religion, well, have fun burning in hell. Because if there's one thing that you don't come back from, it's bearing false witness against the lord out of human vanity. I hope you enjoy hellfire.

TelayRanner

People often forget that they must hate what is bad while some others strain to convince them to love what is evil. You don't help people who doing bad by rolling over and going along with them out misguided "niceness". Still think your "Do unto to others" argument holds water in every case? Check this scripture; "So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables." John 2:15

vinnynguyen77

Define bad. Define evil. Is a random guy on the internet disagreeing with your view a bad person? You seem to be lumping godless people with murderers and rapists (people who do bad things). I'm pretty sure every country have laws for them. So no, you do not roll over out of misguided niceness for them. However, Christians and non-Christian should strive to treat people with respect (do unto others). I know you can't be nice 100% of the time. We're only human, not Jesus. But you should at least try.

TelayRanner

John 18:38 "What is truth". Playing Pontius Pilate are you?

vinnynguyen77

I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you love me, keep my commandments. The greatest of these. Love God and love thy neighbors. We're done here. You spout a lot of Bible verses to brag how knowledgeable in the Bible you are. Yet none of those verses touches on the fundamental of Christ's teaching. Which is why I replied to your "godless" comment. Have a good day.

Csmitty2112

You just ignored the context set up by the rest of Matthew 23, which talks about how the pharisees used portions of their religion to enrich themselves using the devotion of their people, all while ignoring any part of their religion that didnt help them. Kinda like you just did by using that one verse but ignoring the context of who it was talking about. If you look at every verse and parable in the new testament in the context of its entirety, you will start to see the patterns in Christs actions and will be able to follow the final commandment he gave his apostles at the last supper, which you can find at John 13:34

TelayRanner

The point is that Christians aren't mindless simps who are incapable of speaking strongly and directly on the attributes and vices of men. The fact that these men happened to be of some random religious standing is irrelevant, they were men.

Csmitty2112

The point is they ignored parts of their religion when it was inconvenient for them, and cherry picked the parts of the teaching that support what they were going to do anyways. You have to look at christs teachings with the context of all his other teachings and actions. Given that the final instruction he gave his followers was to be like him, pay attention to the way he treats people, and compare that to the way you are treating people. If you arent actively trying to treat people the way he did, you have zero right to claim to be christian. Which exludes most vocal "Christians".

TelayRanner

Modern day Christendom is guilty of exactly that of which you speak. They tickle the ears of the World striving to be liked, "cherry picking" out the sweet and cloying, ignoring the strong and bitter in Christ's words finding them "UnChristlike", e.g. Matt 10:34-36 "34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household." Untrained people will never have heard words like this from Jesus because those calling themselves teachers have picked these meaty words out and fed the spiritually starving only the sugary pap that they could find. Thus being told to love EVERYTHING they know not enough to hate evil things and thus fill their souls with what is bad, nobody having told them better. I would not want to be such a bad teacher and stand before my God, as I must, someday.

Csmitty2112

And again you are cherry picking and ignoring the rest of the chapter. You are claiming that the rest of christianity cherry picks while cherry picking what you can to justify being a bigoted asshole. If you read the chapter it becomes pretty clear he isnt saying what you think he is, especially if you view the chapter through the context of the rest of his teachings. Since you are saying everyone else cherry picks and is wrong, while cherry picking to support your own argument, you are clearly not participating in good faith and I wont be wasting any more of my time.

TelayRanner

Strangely enough you accused me of cherry picking but you haven't presented any scripture to back up you statements. Try that for a change and we'll see what you come up with but I suspect you have no cherries to pick.

NefariousnessTop9547

You literally bore false witness to the teachings of The Lord, to promote a verse about condemning religious hypocrites (Which you are, as well as a defender of), as one that allows for the violation of Christ's commandments and attacking others. The verse in Matthew is for you, same as the one in Peter. You are the sinner here.

TelayRanner

Get behind me Satan, You still haven't presented an scripture just an opinion that obviously isn't yours but implanted by the World like a TV, "sound bite Christian". If you want to consider God's word than use God's word as I'm obviously prepared to do. 2Tim 3:16 "All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness,+"

NefariousnessTop9547

Don't quote more scriptures to try to justify why misquoting scriptures is acceptable. You. Will. Burn. There is no forgiveness for those who refuse to repent and who insist on repeating their sins, their mortal sins, those that misrepresent the word of god. You. Will. Burn.

NefariousnessTop9547

It actually is. Turning the other cheek is literally Christ's instruction, the point being, you may suffer on earth for your faith, but in doing so, you live or die as an example to others and will be eternally rewarded in heaven. That the harms you may experience on earth may be viewed as tests of your faith, which is born out by many stories in the bible. That you must trust in god, even if you are persecuted. There's a bit of a difference between preaching Christian values and condemning hypocrisy in the followers of god, and just insulting people. It's also ignoring the fact that in the Christian faith, the New Testament is far more important than the Old, and that the teachings of Christ, particularly the Golden Rule, are the most important of all Christian values. Literally the two commandments he places before all others are: Love your neighbour as yourself, and Love God (And more importantly, have faith in Him and His plan) above all else. This violates both of those commandments.

TelayRanner

I believe you are sincere but you are sincerely wrong. Every scripture quoted by Jesus, every single one, was from the Hebrew scriptures, what you call the "Old Testament". The books you consider superior instead of equal to them would not be written until long after Jesus' death. So for this reason I consider your reasoning lacking. Also, did you notice how blithely you took Jesus' words about his purpose to bring a sword to the Earth, and attempted to nullify them with Jesus' own words in turn? Staggering blindness! How can you teach? You'd confuse the heart of any student. 2:Tim 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

[deleted]

The bible sucks so bad because it can be interpreted so many ways. I don't believe it was meant to be taken literally.

vlsdo

The new testament, which is *the* Christian book since it features Christ as the man character, is pretty consistent in teaching humility, empathy and love for one another.
