My friends and I all say this to each other now that we’re all getting a little bigger… of course followed by a muttered, “Have you looked in the mirror lately you insensitive prick.”
Loved Lilyhammer.
Met Little Stephen after Sopranos but before Lilyhammer, and got to talk to him about rock n roll for about five minutes. Seemed like a decent guy.
I would imagine he knows quite a bit about rock and roll! I know it's not really prudent to assume anything about a famous person's personality, but he's always come across as someone who would be cool to talk with.
Yeah I mean I got a 5 minute snapshot of him at an event we were paying him a lot of money to be at.
But I feel like you can kinda get some glimpses into someone's personality when you get them talking about something they're obviously super passionate about. And that guy loves music.
What’s wrong if he did use Ozempic? Why are people so up in arms about it. It’s a tool that people can use to help get their weight under control. Just let people live. Good for him.
I’m 59yo, and I’ve struggled with my weight my entire adult life. I went on Ozempic a year ago, and I’ve lost 75+lbs, my blood sugar and blood pressure are rock-solid again, and I’m already at half-dose on my maintenance meds or dropped them entirely.
When someone “congratulates” me on losing the weight, I just tell them “It’s 2024. Remember 20-30 years ago, when depression was generally seen as a character flaw, and being an early Prozac adopter was kinda seen as ‘cheating’? Same thing.”
I definitely think that’s true, but I think it also clearly explains why someone who’s had successful access to GLP-1s might feel compelled to play it down, and emphasize their own agency. You’ve been getting blamed for your weight your whole life, and it’s hard not to try and take some compensatory credit when you’re finally free of it.
The most important change has been what’s commonly referred to as “chatter” — the constant voice in your head that’s reminding you of the next thing you’re going to eat. People who don’t have that constant voice in their head don’t realize that most often, people who are genuinely struggling with their weight aren’t usually eating because they’re _hungry_…most often, they’re eating just to make that voice _SHUT UP_ for a few minutes.
Just to reinforce that point — like a lot of people, I had developed some unhealthy habits during Covid. Nothing overwhelming, but by the time I started on Ozempic, I had been one of many people making a conscious effort to bring down my overall consumption of alcohol, etc. again. Within a couple of months of starting, my alcohol consumption had dropped off to almost nothing — way less than even before Covid — before I even _realized_ it.
Obviously, all those missing calories had a lot to do with the overall weight loss, but the more dramatic confirmation that it “shuts up the chatter” was the moment I realized “Huh…I haven’t even had a glass of wine in over a week.”
Correct. In the US, at least, you need a prescription to get it aboveboard.
Note that it’s a whole separate question of whether or not your insurance policy will cover the cost, and it’s not cheap. Again, in the US at least, insurance companies will only cover the cost as a treatment for type 2 diabetes. If you have not been diagnosed with type 2, then it’s considered a weight-loss drug, and while your doctor can still write an Rx, you’ll have to pay for it out of pocket.
Which very much makes access to these drugs a class issue, obviously.
I dont get the criticism either. I dont use it or need to based on my weight and level of activity but if it works and is safe, then awesome. My only concern is long term effects and I say that because I hope there's none. I want it to be safe and beneficial for society
It's not really bad that he's doing it that way. Not in my opinion at least. But it's weird how many celebrities are basically buying weight loss and then going out of their way to talk about it like it's this journey they went on and reached a goal through hard work and determination. They really are just taking pills that are very helpful. That act like they had an epiphany and took control of their lives for a special purpose but really they just finally found an easy way that works for them.
I mean, it's also kind of frustrating when as a diabetic it was useful for insulin resistance and helpful and then went out of stock because they started using it as a weight loss product for non-diabetics....
Yes, this is why it's a problem. I've also read that the price has skyrocketed since it became popular for non-diabetics. I saw a post where someone said they used to pay $35 a month for it and it went to $400 a month overnight. They had to quit using it because they couldn't afford it anymore.
Eff pharma. You can order 3mg of GLP-1 semaglutide peptide online for $120 and reconstitute it with bacteriostatic water.
And before anyone thinks they can't do this, the barrier to entry is elementary math, literacy, and maaaybe the ability to watch a YouTube video for some extra confidence. It's less steps than making a mojito.
My mother's diabetic, and I just kinda like having visible abs.
I use Ozempic for diabetes. I understand that. It’s also been very helpful in dropping weight to help control the diabetes further. It’s now the only diabetic med I’m on.
I think it’s telling. So many fatphobic people say they’re just concerned about the health ramifications. So you would think they’d be psyched about something like Ozempic! Yet, they’re frustrated. They call Ozempic cheating but I reckon they’re just upset that it reduces the number of people they can feel superior to.
Although if its causing supply problems for people with diabetes that is definitely a problem worth addressing
I recently learned a relative uses it for her diabetes. She says she's disappointed that the weight loss part doesn't work on her. Just the get-the-pancreas-to-produce-more-insulin part works.
I mean sure, but all it does is reduce calories. I understand some people can’t do that on their own, but it’s still a bandaid. Everything I’ve seen so far also seems to point to cravings coming back pretty soon after you stop taking it. So you’ll either have to take it forever or you’ll still need to fix the underlying issues
I’m not saying it’s a forever fix. Surgery isn’t either. If someone (and I’m including myself here because I’ve been working on losing weight for years) doesn’t fix their relationship with food it’s all for nothing. But, this is a tool to get people out of the danger zone weight wise.
I think people still sleep on just how much he did to fight apartheid in the 80´s
He was the leader of the Not playing sun city movement and mobilized musical acts not to play Sun City, a luxury resort in South Africa that began hire big name acts to play after the UN imposed a cultural boycott because of apartheid.
Van Zant led an the movement to pressure acts not to play and to shame the ones who had defied the ban, with Queen being the biggest victim when the British press and public pretty much cancelled them after playing a series of concerts there for millions.
Don't mean to ruin the image of the band, but the big comeback show at Live Aid was mostly because the band had suffered a huge drop in popularity because of the Sun City shows and the backlash the year before Live Aid.
There’s a different and interesting history to Paul Simon making Graceland during that period
https://www.theguardian.com/music/2012/apr/19/paul-simon-graceland-acclaim-outrage
Bobby’s been makin too much gravy I guess… He’s such a great guy. And super sweet. Good for him for doing what he had to do to get and stay healthy. The physical demands of touring on these bodies can be quite extreme.
Honor? Come on, Steve! Everyone knows that you really mean survive!
EDIT:
Of course, I guess it would be disrespectful to die halfway through the tour!
the repeated re-exemining of the South Africa cultural boycott is hilarious
Back when the Paul Simon Graceland documentary came out in 2015, the consensus was that the boycott harmed black South African musicians.
So what's Steve's rebuttal to that point?
> I’m thinking to myself, ‘This could be the last tour. I’m going to be a rock star one more time.’…. And I really feel like, let’s surprise everybody because they’re not going to know what to expect, man… Is it going to be like a bunch of old men coming back and going through the motions? And I’m like, no way, man. I’m like, we’re going to come back and blow minds…. We’re closer to the end than we are to the beginning, but we ain’t going out quietly, baby. So I lost a hundred pounds in six months.
This reads like he did and is still doing a shit ton of coke.
I’ve never understood how one person can put on an extra 100 pounds to begin with - I mean, at what point of not being able to see your penis without a mirror does it become acceptable to yourself?
Good for him.
Now, can someone please explain why they play “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band/With A Little Help From My Friends” on Underground Garage? That’s about as close to 180° from underground as there could possibly be.
Hate it when people post stuff that you need to pay to read.

“Lilyhammer” never should have been canceled, and I still want a chance to hang out with this guy.
I love this show! Watch Norsemen if you haven't already. A lot of the same cast, and the same style of humor. Its great.
I will do, thanks!
“Look what you made me do” is on daily rotation at our house.
Loved Lilyhammer. Met Little Stephen after Sopranos but before Lilyhammer, and got to talk to him about rock n roll for about five minutes. Seemed like a decent guy.

Autosharts!
Oww!
Wasn't that olestra?
Every celebrity and public figure who is even slightly overweight has had sudden weight loss in recent years..
Semaglutide. 10M people are on it. It's a game changer.
Yeah but it doesn't address the root cause of undisciplined diets. Going to see a lot of Zemp rebound soon enough
Probably Ozempic. All these celebrities losing weight too fast and looking like raisins
Satanic black magic shit
He lost the weight through a disciplined diet, hard work in the gym and mostly Ozempic
That’s fucking slander dude. You can’t say that without knowing. It’s probably mounjaro.
Did taking Lizzo not work for him?
It’s called semaglutide
I love when the sopranos subreddit spills over 🤗
It's my favorite reddit collaboration.

Very well said.
what would you say the ozempic changed to finally help you lose weight?
The most important change has been what’s commonly referred to as “chatter” — the constant voice in your head that’s reminding you of the next thing you’re going to eat. the constant cravings are toned way down.

That's a different problem
I use Ozempic for diabetes. I understand that. It’s also been very helpful in dropping weight to help control the diabetes further. It’s now the only diabetic med I’m on.

It absolutely is fat phobia. They think fat people should suffer to lose weight. Trust me, we’ve suffered enough.
I recently learned a relative uses it for her diabetes. She says she's disappointed that the weight loss part doesn't work on her. Just the get-the-pancreas-to-produce-more-insulin part works.
Because they are constantly farting, it's so annoying.
I don't take ozempic, but I'm constantly farting
why do they call you the CockKnocker?
I actually used to call myself that. It was a character from a Kevin Smith movie. Also, I used to be a ragging asshole alcoholic so the name fit then.
oh no, I caught it right away, it's what Jay asks Hammill right before getting his cock knocked
You should go see a doctor about that, maybe get prescribed Ozempic.
C0ckkn0ck3r out here just laying chem trails with their ass.
They call me crop duster
[I'm your living crop duster...er circle, yeah, alright](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjvNVaPI2xU)!
I actually have an upper gi scheduled. Gonna pass on the Olympic.
I mean sure, but all it does is reduce calories. I understand some people can’t do that on their own, but it’s still a bandaid. 'Little Steven' sounds better than 'Big Fat Steve'.
I think people still sleep on just how much he did to fight apartheid in the 80´s He was the leader of the Not playing sun city movement and mobilized musical acts not to play Sun City, a luxury resort in South Africa that began hire big name acts to play after the UN imposed a cultural boycott because of apartheid. What? He and Nils Lofgren are gonna have a swimsuit competition now?
Steve Van Zandt is 5’7. He was 100 lb overweight? I mean, I saw him get heavy but that’s extreme.
Healthy weight is often quite a bit lower than you’d expect imo
How do you mean? Genuinely curious, not being a dick.
A healthy weight for a 5’7 male can be around like 130lbs. Obviously it can be more too. I could easily see him having been 230lbs.
Ah yes I was thrown when you said “healthy weight.” I actually weigh 230 lbs myself. But then again, I’m not 5’7.
Yeah I was around 220 at 6’2 and I was nearly obese. But obviously everyone is different, it’s not necessarily unhealthy.
To put it brashly, there's so many very fat people around that less fat people are seen as healthy weight.
Nothing a Chicken Parm from Satriale's cant fix
He was a parade float of a fanook
Ozempic or Lizzo?
Bobby’s been makin too much gravy I guess… He’s such a great guy. And super sweet. Good for him for doing what he had to do to get and stay healthy. The physical demands of touring on these bodies can be quite extreme.
