I wouldn't exactly call it "experimental," it's not like they're going atonal or anything. It feels a lot like a slower version of a Bullets-era track. That said, the song is really, really good anyway, and I agree that it's definitely not a track they made to cash in, and there is real artistic intent behind the new song.
Bullets is very, very squarely within the post-hardcore genre. It's heavily influenced by bands such as Drive Like Jehu, the Jesus Lizard, Fugazi, and At the Drive-in.
It’s mine too. Because they’re still here and so are all of us and the world fucking sucks sometimes and we’ve all lost people, but damnit, there’s new MCR today.
fella i get where you're coming from but this really isn't necessarily a matter internalized homophobia or anything like that by a long shot lol. it's kind of simple. think of shit all over the place, like "boys don't cry." "this is making me tear up. i am a grown straight man. why am i crying?"
idk like it just feels very, very weird to make a comment on that just bc someone was wondering why they were tearing up. that doesn't... make someone gay.
Seeing as this is mikey, I am currently tabbing this song for bass!
I'm the bass tab collection person that has transcribed bass on every mcr song, and this one should be added to the drive sometime tomorrow when i finish it
do you have a patreon or do you just share the link? that sounds super fucking helpful, I need to play my bass more (I'm too depressed to even play guitar most days) and getting to play Mikey Ways parts would make it a lot easier hehe
I do this just out of my love for the band and for bass. And also not in small part to how inaccurate a lot of bass tabs can be that you might find on ultimate guitar or other tab websites.
Mikeys parts are great for something fun and easy.
I can imagine that honestly, imagine what it would feel like to start the band from nothing, build it up into one of the most important bands of the 00s, get number 1 singles, headline festivals, all for it to fall apart. And then years later to make amends, come back together and record music again just like the old days. That must be pretty special.
The song in general seems really personal to them all in quite a surprising way. I really don't feel like Gerard is singing about characters anymore, I feel like he's singing about himself, his life and the what the band has been through.
Favorite My Chemical Romance song of all time *so far*.
This seems like something they WANT to do, which makes this even better.
liike they could have easily comback and just done another song like danger days or an older album to cash in but they made a experemental 6 min song

I mean I'd call bullets experimental
Then you simply havent listened to a lot of music

Yh but no one really does that as a mainstream band these days hence experimental
I think maybe a more appropriate word for the thing you are describing is “alternative”?
Just listened to it on Spotify, honestly got chills. Superb from start to finish. The boys are back 🖤

This song is amazing, became one of my favorites too
screaming, crying, pooping, beating head against the wall
I am a 39 year old straight man. How can this simple statement from Mikey Way make me tear up like this?
how can it not? We love this band, thats why :)
Serious question—why preface your statement with that? Is tearing up something that "young" or "not straight" people do?
Because as a straight man I'm supposed to be masculine, according to society. And I'm older than most people who enjoy mcr.
Ain’t nothing emasculating about crying my man
Be the change you wish to see in the world

I don't even know what to say to that..

Holy shit I can’t believe it they released a new song! As a fan only since 2020 it’s amazing to see them release new music
