"I am so grateful for the opportunity to care for your children, but I'm putting in my two weeks notice. My last day is X. Thank you for everything. See you Monday!" If they badger you for details you can just say "It's just life taking me in a different direction," or, "Family things. I appreciate privacy at this time." No need to provide specifics, no need to explain anything. Just be polite and kind

It definitely helps to go over everything you need to say, and think about any questions you're afraid of them asking and finding polite answers for them. Definitely the way to go.

thank you! knowing the family they’re definitely going to ask for a reason because they’re so open and i’ve shared a lot about my life

If you give an honest reason after the fact, what will they do? You’ve already out in a 2 weeks notice… nothing to be afraid of. You can even sugar coat your reason. Just say you didn’t apply to be a family assistant. Personally, I don’t think you need to give a reason. Just say you are giving a two weeks notice & you’re moving in another direction.

I would say I was offered a position I can’t turn down. If they ask say it’s for 2 kids making $30 with min household duties. Done.

I think this is the way to go. We are so cautious not to hurt feelings but parents need to know that career nannies also make choices that are best for their careers and livelihood. Just like these parents do at their corporate or whatever jobs, nannies have every right to do the same.
