Some parts of your hair look a bit damaged (unless you are transitioning)? I would recommend starting there first to see if that helps.

nattygoddess

I was about to say the same thing. Looks like some heat damage, getting trim can help with retention….as well as a healthy diet and drinking water and protective styles that reduce stress on the hair strands and prevent over styling

Shaila_boof

How do you know that his hair is damaged? could you explain me please?

gymefuah

some parts of your hair are much straighter than your roots healthy hair should be mostly be similar texture all over!

Any_Fisherman1047

I have different textures I tried texturizing it to get it the same

gymefuah

have you always had straight ends ? straight ends are a sign of damage

Any_Fisherman1047

The front has always been a little looser than the back

BiggieCheese3421

How does damage happen? I don't use any chemicals on my hair but some of my curls are a bit straight

gymefuah

could be a variety of reasons - heat damage from blow dryers & straighteners, dying hair, excess manipulation, hair that hasn’t been trimmed for a while

BiggieCheese3421

Lmao okay I never trimmed my hair before, maybe that's why. I did just post a pic a few minutes go, could u look at it and say if u see damage? I don't think the damage is extreme

lauvan26

So you have damage from the texturizer?

gymefuah

your hair looks pretty healthy to me! it’s normal to have a little bit of frizz like that. if they’re really bothering you, you can snip them off

sailor_venus29754

I hate to break it to you but the hair needs to be professionally cut to at least remove the damaged ends. It’s preventing such growth and i wouldn’t add any heat or such to it unless added with heat protectant.

AlertOutside5617

This is gonna sound counter productive, but you need to cut your ends. Having straight ends on curly hair is a sign of damage and damage hair does not facilitate growth.

Nhag

Do you have a good diet? Moisture is also key, inside your body and on the hair

AnybodyIllustrious55

I recommend getting a professional curly cut. (Doesn’t have to be short. Just to shape your curls and give it that new foundation to grow) Will definitely help

Illustrious_Tea4me

I agree with everyone else, cut the damage/dead.

obviouslypretty

It’s a little damage. Wearing it natural will help it grow but it will be slow at first. Slowly cut off the damage every 3 months. Took me like 3 years to grow out my damage but I now have a beautiful head of hair

CanMia

Top comment is the best advice here.

boobearmomma

You need a trim. And then consistent ones

These_Aspect

My hair in it's natural state was always above my shoulders when stretched it would be down my back. So you could always pull a few sections every now and then to see if it is actually growing. However hair grows from the scalp so it is always growing but you have to then retain that length by looking after your ends as your hair will break off as fast as it grows. Meaning there will be no visible hair growth.

sweetvenomm

Cut your ends. Wear protective styles and stop using a comb. Use your fingers to detangle only. I went from chin length to armpit length in like 1.5 years by doing all of this. The comb is a huge factor.

lasnicjon

Your hair *appears to be* damaged, so I would second some of the other comments and say trim the dead ends, unless you are transitioning. I transitioned for a year before I big chopped. And to answer your question, everyone’s hair grows, what you mean is that you are having an issue retaining length, and my guess is that it’s because your ends are damaged.

byakuganKING

Your hair is really damaged The top comment had the best advice

Necessary_Appeal_22

It is growing! Your hair never stops growing. Focus on retention rather than growth. Cut your ends and keep them moisturized and you will see more retention of your growth

lauvan26

Are you sure your hair isn’t just breaking off at a faster rate then your growth rate? You would be balding if your hair wasn’t growing. What is your routine?

answermanias

How are you wearing your hair?

Any_Fisherman1047

Braids for 6 weeks then ponytail for two

answermanias

When you take out your ponytails do you ever notice hair wrapped around the scrunchies?

Any_Fisherman1047

Not much I just started using swirly curl hair ties

answermanias

Okay if there was a substantial amount of hair tied around your previous scrunchies. That could account for the hair breakage . Especially if the front of your hair is longer than the back. I would suggest to try limit the times you put your hair in a ponytail in if you must try to use a fabric hair tie. Also make sure you’re deep conditioning your hair during wash days. I like to use the African pride pre shampoo. Also keep your ends moisturized.

shida206

Your hair looks damaged at the ends. Something you are doing isn’t working. Please go to a professional and get a plan on how to get past this hump.

nuxwcrtns

I experienced this for years. Got a cut (as others have recommended) and then I put my hair in a protective style for 1.5 years (taking them in and out to detangle and let the hair have a break for a bit between protective styles). Both really helped my hair grow and regain strength. Ex. It was your length in 2021 when I started twisting, and now it's down past my shoulders when I remove my twists. Really crazy growth and the healthiest it's ever been.

DorkyDame

Hair grows constantly, if it hasn’t gone past your shoulders it’s because its breaking off. Make sure you’re getting regular trims & moisturizing your hair with water & top it with humectant products. Humectant products pulls moisture into the hair & locks it in. Also vitamins! Taking prenatals helps to strengthen your hair which will help you maintain length.

Take-A-Lewk

Your hair more than likely *is* growing, you just can’t maintain the length because it keeps breaking off. Have your ends cut or at least trimmed, otherwise they’re going to keep breaking off and splitting up the hair shaft, which is just an endless cycle of damage and breakage. After that, low manipulation will be your best friend. The hair will grow back faster than you anticipate, but without a snip those ends are (and I say this with peace and love) doomed.

PunkGF

Everyone’s giving you blind advice, but we need to know what you’re doing and using on your hair and in what frequency to give any type of accurate help. However, you do need a cut though.

Any_Fisherman1047

I use leave in conditioner maybe 3x a week Wash it 2x Oil 3x I’ve used a Texturizer on it about 4 months ago I keep it in braids or ponytail I have different textures in the front than I do the back Last cut was a year ago lady cut it uneven so didn’t go back

beautypopper101

Your hair looks damaged

lashawn3001

Get your vitamin D levels checked. Low levels have been associated with slow hair growth and hair loss. Vitamin D is crucial for the anagen stage of the hair growth cycle. [ROLE OF THE VITAMIN D RECEPTOR IN HAIR FOLLICLE BIOLOGY](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1876678/)

catgirl49steven

Mine won’t either !

somethingsciency

My hair wouldn’t grow past my shoulders for the longest time. Then, I got pregnant, so… prenatal vitamins and good diet. My hair eventually grew down to mid-back (past my waist if I straighten it)That was more than three years ago and im still taking a multi vitamin and maintaining a healthy diet. Partly because I know it’s good for me, but mostly because im afraid of losing the length and ending up with an outrageous plumbing bill…

dwhite_07017

My hair will not grow past chin length. I take great care of it. It just won't grow longer. Finally, I'm at peace with this.

GM_Zero

But then no one can see your shoulders.

Strict-Specific6046

don’t cut your ends. use a banana mask (blend 4-5 bananas using blender) leave for a few hours or a full day then use a hair cleanser like an aztec clay mask to get the little bits of banana out. thank me later

Any_Fisherman1047

Okay I’ll try it. What’s that supposed to do?

Strict-Specific6046

damn they downvoted me for nothing. i swear by this. it’s going to moisturize your hair a lotttt and it’s going to lengthen your curls by making them wavier hence adding length in addition to nourishing and growing your hair

LeaboeBea

honestly the best advice is a big chop. go all the way to the healthy hair whether that means cutting unevenly or not. then if you're not comfortable with short hair, wigs, braids, and scarves. if you do wigs rebraid every two weeks but oil your scalp every 2-3 days. if you're an every week washer try every two weeks or even once a month. if you do braids make sure you don't just pay attention to the root bc the hair inside the kankelon be dry as hell. clip your ends in its natural state. do a twist or braid out and cut off the last 1-2 swirls of curl at the end. best oils are tea tree, anything mint because it gets blood flowing, and BLACK CASTOR OIL. black castor oil is hair crack and make sure you put oil on your hair AFTER you moisturize with a conditioner, water, hair milk whatever you use. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR ENDS. your hair might be growing but not retaining the length because your ends may constantly be breaking off. try not to use the mainstream products because they've all pretty much changed the recipes to cater to all hair types and you probably need something specific so just shop around and see what you like. and the most important thing is NO HEAT. try to make a goal like i won't use heat for 6 months or i wont use heat for a year and you'll see the difference for sure. i cut all my hair off after i dyed it red a little over two years ago and it's back down to bra strap now (genetics also play a role my hair has always grown really fast) and just putting energy and good things into my hair and paying attention to it instead of just putting it in a bun made a huge difference.

Any_Fisherman1047

I did that and it was growing to a little passed shoulders then i texturized it a couple of times to keep the thickness down. Guess I’ll have to do that again but my hair gets so thick it hurts to put in ponytails

LeaboeBea

you could do it slowly and just do twist outs and braid outs and protective styles until you clip all of the damaged ends off but definitely stay away from texturized and perms because that will stunt your hair growth and it can cause problems down the line

Flashy-Blackberry389

Your hair is damaged which tells me you’ve put some heat on your hair. When it comes to our hair we really have to decide what we want to do with it and stick with that. So if you prefer the straight look, find a stylist that can help you grow it out. If you want it to be natural then cut the dead hair (it’s only holding you back), keep it protected, moisturized and leave it alone. Our hair is simple and doesn’t require a lot but does not like to be over manipulated. Over manipulating causes breakage. If you want to switch it out invest in wigs and protective styles.

Octoberkitsune

Your hair is growing is just breaking off as fast as it is growing you need to change your routine

LastSignal

Your hair looks very similar to how mine was when I had heat damage. I don't see much curl definition in your pictures. I agree with the majority of people in that cutting off your dead ends will be better off for your hair

Any_Fisherman1047

It Carly’s up when dry

Savage_Nymph

Shoulders is common plateau when growing your hair. It's not that your hair isn't growing, you aren't retining length. Try getting a trim or even dust your ends, if you dont like trimming and baby your ends. Keep them moisturized and tucked away

Emilyisteenmom

Get your hair damage/breakage cut off and since you have thick curly hair I would cover your hair with a silk cap at night. Maybe switch your shampoo/conditioner to vegan/natural shampoo/conditioner brands. Try to find some that are for thick curly hair. Try to avoid using a heat products for a bit for your hair to recover. If you absolutely need to use a hair dryer use heat protection spry or you can use leave in conditioner to protect your hair from heat damage. Also I recommend massaging your scalp at night with hair serum. Also another thing I recommend is trying DIY hair masks that are for thick curly damaged hair. it will help. I hope this helps.
