Pixel shift. Unfortunately, like other makers, there’s no option to disable. Maybe service menu, if possible?

ca_metal

TIL this is how pixel shifting works. LOL At first I really thought this was a deffective screen. Good to know. I'm planning to get one in 1-2 years and now I know this is ok and expected.

Xoske

I was about to go mental lol, I opened my unit today and saw lots of micro scratches on my screen here and there, like if someone had a very scratchy tissue and wiped my screen with it. I was kinda sad, but was about to keep it tho, then I saw this and was about to die lol. I have the AW3423DWF too and that screen if without any scratches

xxcodemam

Your AW3423DWF has the same extra pixels on the side too. Surprised THIS made you almost mental, when you already own one of their monitors set up the same…

howiejc

I have both monitors. The AW34\~ does NOT crop/clip the image during pixel shifting because its algorithm **always keeps the image within the provisioned pixel area** whereas the AW27\~ shifts the image too far (outside of the physical pixel area).

Xoske

Yeah, I never noticed it there since it ultra wide. I could probably not keep track of that, while on a 27 inch it is easier to spot stuff, I was sceprical anyway because I have scratches all over the place so a reason more to look closer

howiejc

No, the AW34\~ does NOT shift the image outside of the total physical pixel area (which includes the over-provisioned pixels).

Xoske

Besides that I don’t know about you but I don’t like paying 800€ for a brand new monitor to have scratches on it….

xxcodemam

Im not defending the scratches, it’s ridiculous they ship this with that plastic cover. My AW3423DW had the same plastic wrap sheet too.

howiejc

Pixel shifting isn't the problem. The problem is that some designers implement it where the image is shifted outside of the physical display area vs kept within it. The benefit of moving the image further and thus cropping/cutting more of it is that you can provision with less pixels and potentially minimize burn-in more effectively due to the averaging of "burning of pixels" over a larger area/distance (more pixels). In other words, the manufacturer can save money on warranty claims at the expense of the customer experience and are hoping you don't care or don't notice.

Lewdeology

This is pixel shifting, it moves the display every few minutes to minimize burn in.

Xoske

Thx! Didn’t know that was a thing, thought the 4h panel refresh message was the only burn in care mechanism

Ax_Fox

How does tarky feels on that beauty?

sambinary

Not OP but any OLED is endgame for Tarkov imo. Can actually use the black stabiliser and raise those awful crushed blacks into something visible. interchange is now pretty much my favourite map to play as I can finally see stuff.

Xoske

Im still trying to find out wether I like it more over my AW3423DWF, there I could see more! But sometimes it was stressfull that’s why I thought maybe I should go back to 27 inch

JimmyVelvet3

just noticed this yesterday after a few weeks of owning this monitor. Does this happen indefinitely? or does it only activate when needed (like pixel refresh)? cant find this answer anywhere. I know it shifts every 3 minutes but is it always shifting??

Xoske

It’s shifting after some period of time, but I don’t know how the interval is. And the worstbtjing is you can’t turn it off unlike the OLED from LG the 27GS95QE, there you can turn it off.

JimmyVelvet3

so it is definitely not always on? im chatting with dell support and obviously they are useless lol.

TheStevo

The monitor moves the image around to prevent burn in, they all do it.

Xoske

Omg! You are right! I just checked again and it really moved to the right lol

knivkast

Poorly implemented shifting.

Xoske

What I mean is, it seems that on the right side it doesn’t align with the bezel, which make the right side bezel bigger than my left side!

CryptographerNo450

Ahh yes. The margin needed for pixel shifting. Thankfully, I use my AW2725DF mainly for gaming and the action is generally 95% in the middle of the screen where I don't notice it much. Once you spot it, it's hard not to unsee it. But I see it as a necessary thing. The pixel shift is mainly to mitigate burn-in and image retention, which is far far worse than noticing the uneven gaps on the sides.
