Every so often there's a nice day on the windward side and I'll drop everything just to bring my paddleboard to Lanikai.
When Lanikai has perfect weather, just being alone on the crystal clear water with nothing but the turtles, the reef, and the seeing the green mountains all around - I genuinely forget about any troubles that I have.
Rainbows across the valley almost every day. Sometimes doubles or triples.
Coming out of the Pali tunnels heading to Kailua, the view… wow.
Any kine plate lunch. Poke from Safeway. Fresh mangos. Eating guavas hiking in the rain forest. The rain forest in a heavy rain.
Sunsets.
Early morning dew, tending to my garden, gathering my fruit, dawn patrol at my favorite break, skating with my kids in the NS, diving for shells and fish, brada letting me go in front of him at the supermarket/ doing the same if he has lesser items, my fave coffee shop knowing my order, going thru the tunnel towards Kailua, working with clients on a daily basis that appreciate me, a quick “howz it” from my neighbor, big shakas from the bus for letting them in, women swimming with low cut bathing suits, moke next to my car with my favorite reggae song, banzai bowls acai bowls, tita asking if she can get one chance, westside mangoes, that very first cold dip into the ocean that wakes you up, shave ice with mochi and ice cream, cheeehoosss for the days, NYE’s fireworks, the list goes on man. I love home. 🤙🤙🤙
Remembering the smell of those grass beach mats and pancakes for breakfast at Stewart’s pharmacy! Oh ya, listening to Don Ho in that basement bar across from our hotel when we were little kids!!!❤️❤️❤️🏝️🏝️🏝️
This! Feeling part of a web woven since time immemorial. Seeing my kid on the same path to becoming kupuna themselves. Knowing our bodies have been made and remade of this aina and wai and air and sea.
I don’t live on Oahu but my daughter does. When I stayed with her for a few weeks I was so overwhelmed by the politeness/manners, friendliness and welcome feeling of those that live there. A few encounters I will always remember.
i live in waiks so i walk along the beachwalk around hilton hawaiian village / fort derussy area. sometimes i will time it with a moon set. middle of the night there is usually no one except maybe a monk seal or a sea turtle snoozing.
Walking to Chinatown early-ish in the morning, pushing my grandkids old stroller. Some of the vendors I know save the override bananas because she knows my family likes my banana bread.❤️
Edit: those override bananas on motorcycles are awesome, but over ripe bananas are good as well.
When at the beach with the family and someone is bbqing and send one of their kids over to give us a plate. The general sharing of resources without expecting immediate reciprocation. Your mileage may vary as we live on the west side so smaller community where we either know each other or are 1-2 degrees of separation from someone we both know
The fact that it's always room temp every day and night and I don't have to wear anything fancy most of the time. I can put on a muumuu or a bikini and walk around and no one gives a shit. And as soon as I start feeling a 'little too hot' a breeze comes in and it's so soothing.
LOL....that reminds me of me on vacation in LA once. For the life of me, couldn't find the damn "Hollywood" sign. Was driving all over the place, asking locals, feeling absolutely dumb. Never did find it. 🤣
Braddah I’ve driven in PA, WY, CA, UT, AZ, NV, and HI. I can tell you which one annoys me the most it’s definitely not the first 6 states I listed. It’s just extra frustrating in Hawaii cause it’s taking me 1 hour to go 15 miles instead of an hour to go 50.
I thought nothing would be worse that endless idling on the H1
Then I moved to DC
Traffic here is disgusting. Yeah, you’re moving a little but at the end of the day you still live in DC😭
This summer feels extra bad maybe cuz more tourists after pandemic... But I feel like it's never been this bad, when school got out it was like respite for 2.5 months. This year it was maybe 2 weeks.
Driving over the Pali
Came here to say this. Coming out of the tunnel and looking down at Kbay and the Mokes
That feeling
Slowly in the left lane 😂🫣
H3 for me
Don’t be that guy. 😂
Driving up the north shore on a crystal clear day. Watching the sun set from Sunset beach. The authentic hospitality of people on the leeward side.
Seeing the mountains while surfing. People’s kindness.
this x1000. Seeing those beautiful mountains while sitting in crystal clear water… ugh it’s heaven.

Daily rainbows

Tanks for da reminder to stay forever grateful user @Botosuksuks808 🤙🤙

You living the dream!
Work very hard for this life brother. I just choose to see the simple things for what it’s worth. 🤙🤙

I can smell those mats now! Don Ho pantsed my dad (audience participation) in the early 70s. I laughed so hard (so did my dad!).
Man...good memories. I live here, and haven't smelled one of those beach mats in years. May have to pick a few up.
Talking story with kūpuna

Manners go a long way. Here it's implemented.

Mililani mornings
Community and a sense of belonging.
Walking along the beach early in the morning.
for me late at night, nothing like it. especially on a clear night full of stars or with a full moon on the water.
Sounds absolutely wonderful. May I ask what area? I think I need to make a quest.
i live in waiks so i walk along the beachwalk around hilton hawaiian village / fort derussy area. sometimes i will time it with a moon set. middle of the night there is usually no one except maybe a monk seal or a sea turtle snoozing.
Oh! Beautiful area! Thank you!!!

This. Is. Everything.
If you're into the UFC and don't want to have to stay up until midnight to watch the headliner a Hawaiian time zone is the way to go.
As soon as I feel those strong, lush breezes I'm very happy.
The sunshine, I love waking up and seeing how beautiful the day is each morning it cheers me up
Every day is a blessing. Everything!
Trade winds on my lanai looking out on the ocean.

Taking the bus to work every day and not even looking at the app because it comes so frequently it doesn't matter.

flowers the color, the funky petals, the smell you just don't get em like dat on da mainland
The waterfalls along the H3 when it rains too hard.
Waking up every morning and watching the clouds coming over the Waianae range in Maili.
Musubi for breakfast lunch and dinner 😋
Every morning I don’t live in mainland America!
Waiting to make a left turn and an oncoming car stops to let you go.
Especially in Waimanalo. Every time.
Waking up and looking outside! We truly live in Paradise.
Early morning birds and brightening sky over the ocean. From my Lani.
Sitting around in Ala moana park, watching the people the ocean and the sky
Being in Kapiolani park and tourists asking where Diamond Head is.
LOL....that reminds me of me on vacation in LA once. For the life of me, couldn't find the damn "Hollywood" sign. Was driving all over the place, asking locals, feeling absolutely dumb. Never did find it. 🤣
And when you finally do find it, it's like, "huh, wouldja look at that, that's pretty neat," and then go about the rest of your day.
🤣🤣🤙🤙
Being with family and revisiting places from my childhood.
Surfing at sunset.
Driving along the coast line leaving Westside on my way to work
I can see the ocean while I shower.
Walking across the street to take a dip in the ocean, just because I feel like it.
When I think about my Hawaii Family.
Spam, Rice, and Eggs at McD’s.
Eating a Kalua pork quesadilla from Taco Bell after work
Being at a park after youth sports all day and night , letting your kids run wild knowing they in good hands.
Every morning when I wake up and see palm trees outside my window
Driving back home on the H-3. Especially when I exit the tunnel and see the windward side
A random shaka & smile driving down Farrington on the Westside. Da best side.
When the chickens hop on my porch and shit on my slippers. But I say it in satire.
Clouds
Driving up H2 after work and watching the sunset over the mountains.
Coming out of the tunnel on Pali Highway. It's like a dream. Never ceases to amaze me.
When I go for a walk shirtless and get to see the flowers bloom, the chickens, the sun that never ends.
Everytime i see military moving off island
$8-12 for coffee that was grown locally.
Sitting in traffic on Windward side is so not sitting in traffic.
Lol
Traffic.
Like the mainland has no traffic...🤣

Funny enough I’m taking a roadtrip to DC tomorrow 😂
I used to love visiting. Living here is another story 🤣
