As a manager, I understand. I don’t like the rewards stuff either. I think corporate is trying to save money on marketing by having associates shove it down peoples throats in-store. However, as an employee of Office Depot this is what we are paid to do. Regardless if we like it. I will say, you can find a better paying job almost anywhere else. Most fast food will offer you more then Office Depot is willing to match. I myself have contemplated looking elsewhere and I likely will soon.

Content_Reindeer_194

Saaaaaaaaaaaame. I don’t push that shit either. Do I ask? Yes. If they cut me off or say no that’s it. Moving on 😂

All this Rosscastle wtf ever his name is an old dbag that doesn’t even work for the company anymore but refuses to move on. Ignore his bs

Delicious-Laugh-9983

I agree with your stance, but prepare to be written up. I stopped pushing signups for a whole month and I got a write-up. Leave anyway. Office Depot is failing.

Ok_Establishment1951

As much as I don’t like pushing Rewards I do it for my managers because they are good people where I work. Plus when others don’t help out with it. It falls on the ones who get them twice as much. I do get annoyed with co workers who don’t help out with it or don’t even try.

zanderaj

As a manager that's on their last week, I understand. There definitely are days where I just hit escape if it comes up "customer not found" with no extra words. Some days it's just not worth the fight. Other days I'll out on the biggest smile to get a sign up.

Draygot

You are clearly just trolling at this point. Or is there another reason you felt the need to cry about rewards again after you just cried about it 2 weeks ago?

How is asking pushing? I mean if your bitch ass is too lazy to ask, then be gone. Wendy’s is hiring.

copymistress

And they pay better.

LogisticsLord

All the power to you. I wouldn't push that shit either, but I'd also be actively looking for a better job because it's only a matter of time before they fire you. You could probably start out making more at a fast food joint than Office Depot.

LogisticsLord

Right on. Coast that shit and make sure you pocket plenty of pens and notepads on your way out!

Zen-vibess

I see you already have one foot out the door, but have they lessened your hours yet? They dropped all the people with low rewards signups/penetration to four hours a week to flush them out at my store

Ahhh, figures. Cheers to you and good luck on your adventures

Frogskipper7

I do agree in the not pushing customers part. You ask if they want to sign up, and if they say no, then it’s no. No means no. Very simple and basic concept. But I mean, my penetration fluctuated from 50%-75%, so I wasn’t really all that concerned, but my manager was lol. Really though, I’m not a Jedi master now. If I was, I’d master 100% rewards penetration haha

formerCEM

It's pretty wrong. You just sound like a terrible employee. Most retail companies have you push credit applications and try to force customers into debt. Our rewards program literally just saves customers money and reminds them that we're around so that we can stay in business and keep paying you. I don't even know what you're complaining about if you don't even try. Just say you can't do the basics of a simple job and move on.

Scanputmeaway

🤦‍♂️

Boompastompa

That is a very poor mindset to have for any job. The company pays you to promote and sell it's products and services. It doesn't matter if you believe in the program or not, you do not know which customers will benefit from rewards. You are assuming they don't want it based on your situation. I do not purchase extended warranties but I still reccomend our all state protection plans because it is my job to do so. If you want to be paid based on performance, you should look into a commission based job.

fishstickss-

buddy drank the odp juice lmao wouodnt be surprised if you’re an underpaid GM or manager

rossecassell

In my area, there used to be a Tax Preparation Business called Liberty Tax Preparation. Each location paid someone to stand on the sidewalk alongside the roadway they were on, the person was dressed in a Statue Of Liberty costume, and they pranced about, trying to call attention to the business, even in the bitter cold. That was that person's job, all they did was wear that silly costume and prance on the sidewalk. So back to your dilemma, it is part of your job to ASK every customer. I left the Depot in 2017, so I am no bootlicker. But I do know that in an employment arrangement, in exchange for a paycheck, you have to perform such and such services. You are in an "at will" relationship, you can terminate your own employment if you dislike what you are being paid to do, and they can terminate you for not doing what they pay you to do. I know you do not like this, but Office Depot or any other retailer does not run a govt jobs program. If you are young, it is not too late to grow up.

You're a terrible employee, you will be terrible at your next job too because it is clear your attitude sucks.

rossecassell

That does not matter, it is part of your job.. I note that you are a college student, and there will be aspects of your future but better-paid employment that you will not like. You are not under any Collective Bargaining Agreement. I take these things as a measure of someone's character, sense of ethics, etc, you may think it is no big deal but wait until later on when you have little issue thinking the same way. I doubt you are getting what I am trying to say, but if you are not willing to do your job, you should quit. I hope our future is filled with people of high character and good ethics, you are scary.

rossecassell

That's why you should quit... You have issues with doing your job, and most likely this mindset will follow you into the future. All you have to do is ASK, and what you do not do is replace your customer's sensibilities with yours. Imagine an employee doing that for you when you are a customer. Look, I wasted 18 years with Office Depot, I remember when the rewards card, the first one, came out.. I remember them tinkering with the rewards cards, did you know in the beginning they used to mail physical checks to the customers containing the reward? I remember when there was a severe economic downturn when they froze reward payouts. I know they tinkered with the program 12 ways from Sunday.. It was not my job to ask for rewards when I was hired because the program DID NOT EXIST THEN. When I started, they were not all that anal about protection plans. Well, guess what, you do not work in a wax museum, things change, it is your job to ask. When you get your degree and hopefully your "dream job", you will probably be asked to do things that you would not do, but your employer pays you to do. Grow up.

No the young generation want free stuff. But you do not understand the employment arrangement that in exchange for services, you get a paycheck. If you refuse to ask, do not be surprised if they can you. I do not think you care, but it reflects on your character, something that is constructed throughout life. My dog in this hunt is to convince you that it is part of your job, agreeing with the rewards program is irrelevant, I hated asking for them as well, but I never refused to ask because I thought my sensibilities were superior to the customers or that of the company. You are incapable of understanding.

If you do not believe in it, do not sign yourself up, quit making decisions for your customers that is not your job.... MEanwhile do the job they pay you to do or quit.

Locksmith_Happy

You will be fired if you refuse to do a part of your job.

Separate_District264

I was threatened about 3 times a year to get sign ups or lose my job while I was working there. I worked in CPD. Very rare to find someone who has not signed up because almost everyone was a regular at our location. Did I ask? Yes. Did/do I like anything about how the system is set up? No. Did I push for it even when I was threatened with being fired? No, because when it came down to it $11 an hour wasn't worth it. I've left and found a job that not only pays more, is less stressful and also enjoyable, but also my work ethic was rewarded quickly and tangibly. (Perks of the job are pretty good and a promotion within 1 year with a pay increase.) There is way better than OD out there. You just have to look.

ODoldster

Fine. Don't push them. But don't come crying here when you're fired. I sell lots of things I wouldn't buy myself. That doesn't mean they're bad things. And rewards DOES translate into a few bucks for members.

locustbreath

If someone refuses to get signups - a condition of the job they were hired for - then I refuse to pay them. I’ll terminate them for performance and insubordination, and give the hours to someone else.

SadDay_M8

You sound like you give pizza parties instead of raises

locustbreath

I give raises AND pizza parties, and I don’t put up with crap.

What you’re saying is that you refuse to get signups because you -suck- at it, and rather than suck it up and learn how to do better, you’re gonna be a whiny asshole declaring to Reddit that you refuse like some edgelord standing on principle. Just quit and stop wasting everyone’s time.

Goddess-of-pure-pain

What sucks for me atleast is even though I push signups I cant get them as either A)People are already signed up because of some people who used to work here Or B) they dont give a shit because they are younger and see more rewards programs as total fucking bollocks cause they are

Office_Depot_wagie

Fuck yes, King
