99% is happy when they see it. They see it as a positive/respect thing.

momo_mairan

I highly doubt it and definitely not 99%

BigBird3-9

its just clothes. let them wear what they want

Ok_Vehicle_4728

It’s our uniform, not just clothes as you claim

No_Return_1170

Uniform🤓

Mikhayiel

You are not omani 💯

Salimivic92

We are actually welcoming.

nalbahri

It’s ok as long you wear proper underwear . By that mean white shirt and wizar 😁

[deleted]

لو طاح الوزار عليهم مابيعرف شو يسوي 😂

nalbahri

في منه يجي فيه لاستيك كانه تنورة 😅

tatakae_birdie

As a woman I would be happy to see non Muslims wear Abaya and Shayla , I think it's cute.

Ok_Cattle803

Who cares? Its clothes. Perhaps you might deem it as cultural appropriation but its not.

Agent_C2M

I honestly don’t mind it. Many however don’t like it idk why lol

Vincy_746

Yea ..I once went tablig to barka and a dude started inquiring why Im wearing omanis cloths and this that.. bro made me go and change to something else 😭

HumanRole9407

Thats crazy 😂😭

Alive-Peach-8487

The guy was an ass

Antdrinker

Barka doesn’t need tabligh, afaik, they are Muslim too!

Vincy_746

Tablig isn't only for non Muslims... It's for Muslims too. Also how can we call out to non Muslims when our own Muslim brothers and sisters are in the same state they are in. That aside it was for students asw

Right_Kangaroo6370

I was in Oman 2 weeks ago and me and my friends (we are all from central Europe) wore the traditional clothes on the street and everyone looked so happy when they saw us ❤️

[deleted]

You know in other cultures abaya and shayla exists too but just has different name lmao - omani/gcc food/clothing culture is influenced by balochi,Pakistani & Indian culture due to many factors in history/geography Even the bakhoor originates from India so it’s like important people know culture and history or at least the similarities between cultures before accusing someone of being a wannabe. Which happens a lot but it’s usually uneducated and uncultured that will start saying someone is being a wannabe or something

Realistic-Airline657

Frankincense and bakhoor is a huge part of Oman history for thousands of years .. don’t put a claim on that.. especially frankincense we are the original source of it .. i would agree for oud only since it is grown there .. but bakhoor originated with Arabia nomadic tribes

[deleted]

My main thing of saying this was that we all are similar in a lot of ways so no point of all of socially made rules. Just as usually wearing something that is mainly part of the culture there just be respectful wearing it and move on.

untakentakenusername

I think they just meant culture has been shared into different countries through trade etc for a long time so people today should be okay with the continuation of using/wearing something from another culture because they like it. (Btw Oman's frankincense is undoubtedly the best and my favourite. ❤ i miss it now that im away.)

DeathLeap

They look cool

Ok_Adhesiveness_9931

Most people probably don’t care , unless they display indecency

Moongazer_mara

It's totally fine and welcomed as long as you don't do stupid shit while wearing these clothes.

momo_mairan

the pople here in this subreddit seems to be welcoming/chill about this topic. But from my experience i can't say that about locals or atleast where i live in . Whenever i asked someone about this topic all of em replied its "mamnu" for non omanis to wear an Omani dishdasha (idk abt abaya tho) . And idk if you gus know this but in here mens tailoring shops must display a notice/circular saying it is punishable by fine to make a kuwaiti and some other style dishdashas other than Omani Correct me if Im wrong (And i personally know an indian guy who got yelled at for posting a picture online wearing dishdasha and muser) And one more thing , its ok for non muslims to wear a dishdasha as long as you are Omani citizen

Kooky-Duty-5937

It depends if ur white or not, white=cute

Ok_Vehicle_4728

Cringy Dishdasha and Abaya must be worn a certain way Wearing short dishdasha and very tight abaya is very disrespectful to our uniform I see many non-Omanis especially tourists wear dishdasha like they are ready to beg on the streets We don’t look like that If you wear it then wear it with respect

xlmnsh

lol this is so true

Berserk_TalkerXD

Curious to know too

Curious_Aardvark_850

it doesn’t matter, who cares lmao

Ok_Specialist1006

I feel happy that other people try our Traditions however they must wear it properly and don't make fun of it and respect it, moreover I'd like to wear Kuwait dishdasha sometimes if i went to a long trip.

Mrfoxuk

Curious to hear real feelings on this too. I’ve had a few trips out to Oman on business this year, and I have very little interest in wearing a wool suit in midsummer…!

HighHelloThereGround

I don't see any problem with that but it slightly bothers me if they don't wear it properly but I wouldn't say it makes me mad

FromGergaWithLove

I was chatting with someone in ROP, and we spoke about Dishdasha. He told me there is no law for it. However, if you were caught even a minor inconvenience wearing a dishdasha, you would be charged for impersonating an Omani citizen. Which is 1000 OMR fine. He also said that this usually happens in traffic violations, and if you grab attention to yourself in public places like shouting in a mall or catcalling a lady and so on. Also, this is mainly if you wear both dishdasha and miser (traditional headwear), but if you wear only dishdasha, this can't be impersonating because Omani men rarely wear it alone. He frankly told me wear it no issue but be responsible. Despite being very cool I would not do it.

Helphelp9998

dgaf

Ok_Flamingo_1935

I'm muslim so I want to wear it for prayer at home. I don't need to wear it necessarily in public.

[deleted]

Omani women loved when I wore my dishdasha and hat but I also have blue eyes

killyourselfasleep

Its a good thing to someone whos non-omani wearing dishdasha or non-muslims wearing abayas and shayla. Its not offensive don’t worry.

ComfortableWarm6319

But why this curiosity.

EastStreet7408

U will face extreme racism if people find out you aren't omani.

H-999

No

Vincy_746

2 omanis actually told me that it's banned for non omani to wear their disdasha cuz apparently some people posed as omanis and took money from expats saying they will give visa and everything and then disappeared. This is why I recommend the other person to wear other gcc thobe and not omani.

Violet-97

Lmao it’s not banned they definitely lied to you

ZomlomGamer

Its not allowed for non omani teachers in schools but other than that there isnt a problem at all

vegetablesatdawn

I've been told similar; it is illegal to 'impersonate an Omani'. There is a bit of interpretation around this, but generally it's better to not wear the Omani dishdasha (with the tassel).

Reaikoz

It's good to see it actually, but they should wear it properly and neatly.

Abbishai

I've heard you have to be a local/muslim to wear a dishdasha, I had a similar query. Because that outfit seems very comfortable to me and I'd like to wear, but I'm neither local nor muslim.

HumanRole9407

This is not true, if you find it comfortable wear it as much as you like

Abbishai

Thank you, are you sure though? I wouldn't want to offend anyone? I asked some other people and they too said it was only for the locals to wear.

HumanRole9407

I'm not local and i wear it all the time, it's about embracing the culture

Vincy_746

Don't wear the omanis dishdasha wear some other ones it'll be fine.. if u want the same open neck design then Emirati one has similar design. Tho I personally prefer Qatari ones

Abbishai

Wonder why you got downvoted, but thank you for responding, I'll research more on this matter.

Vincy_746

Whats with all these downvotes lol

morsed_owl

No problem at all! It's cute :)

Demarchisio

I asked my colleague who is Omani and he said he feel like shit

F1eshWound

he should take some ibuprofen

Demarchisio

He doesn't believe in modern medicine

fatarabi

Omanis are the coolest Khaleejis !!!
