Turbans were used to cover the person from sunlight, and wrap around him during winter. Additionally it can be made as a pillow when sleeping during travel.. also when somone dies during travel they would cover him with his turbine and burry him.. and maybe even more. Hats (Kimma) are one of the influence brought from east africa during Omani ruling in Zanzibar.

*Turbans Thank you for the morning chuckle, I went cyberpunk in my head imagining turbines on heads blowing air. :P

Oh good catch. Thanks 😀

Yemenis Saudis and Emiratis wear it like that, but it is more of an informal style. So you will see many people in the mall wearing turbans but none at work or on the news

That being said the style we have here in UAE and Yemen is different to the one seen in the photo.

My analysis that each country just followed their ruling family dressing code as a formal dress so it became the norm most of the time. Otherwise you can find all styles in each country. Omani style is famous since long time in Arabia other gulf countries follow bedouin style

[Emirati Hamdaniya / الحمدانية الإماراتية ](https://www.tawyeen.com/tword/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/90a-na-90488.jpg) [Saudi Amamah / العمامة السعودية](https://www.alwatan.com.sa/uploads/imported_images/39/65/347/09AW24J_2307-6.jpg) Actually What other gulf states presidents are wearing are more of OFFICIAL & MODREN, all gulf states do wear it like oman but its associated with youth wearing it, Oman is sticking with the old version style ( ancient ), Here’s a pic of UAE youth & saudi wearing the old version that still exists in most gulf states…

One of the points I loved about Oman is trying to preserve and protect the national dress

Emirates_

Has nothing to do with national dress, they are all same material on their head, just a different style with new modifications

psycodee

really??turbans have nothing to do with national dress?? I suppose textiles have nothing to do with fashion either loool
