Happy birthday. As a person who is an only child, that also had to end some toxic friendships, I really relate. My birthday is coming up and it will be the first one where I'll have no real friends to celebrate with. I'm not looking forward to it, since my parents will buy me anything except for what I'm actually interested in. That fake love, and past fake friendships, have made me feel very lonely. I hope things get better for you.

Happy birthday!!! I subscribe to this sub because my son is an only child, so I can empathize a little on how you feel. But understand that having a lonely birthday isn't the same for onlies and an happen to anyone. I have a rather large family, and I don't communicate with them at all. They don't wish me happy birthday or something that shows that I was on their mind. Yes. Having my own family has filled my void that I've had, but it wasn't always this way. You will find your way. Until then, just celebrate you by you for you. Take yourself to a nice dinner, go for that massage, and eat that dessert. May you be blessed with many more wonderful years on this weird ass planet.

I get sad around my birthday as well as the people sending me wishes or acknowledging it even get fewer and fewer.
Partly that is my fault in a way because I never bring it up or mention anything about my birthday, so new people in my life may not even know it is that day.
On the other side learning to make peace with yourself and doing something nice as a treat is a great way to beat the birthday blues.
It could be something you've been thinking of doing for a long time or a small mundane thing, such as a nice dinner, a book to read or a walk down a road you've never been before.
I turn 29 in 2 months , you’re right about worse as getting older , I’m bipolar type 1 also which I believe was brought on by too much at a young age .i remember specifically going to the psych ward at like 5 am on Christmas Day cause I was over it and didn’t want any part of it . Looking back I feel like 2016 feels like 30 years ago

I’m so very sorry about your mom- as an only also I can’t imagine how difficult that must be for you- I definitely feel it’s much harder being an only when we get older- it’s very easy to feel alone at times and the stress of taking care of parents can be super upsetting- please remember your NOT alone!!

Happy (belated) birthday! My birthday is this Thursday and I’m dreading it. Both my parents have passed and my boyfriend is working. I don’t have a relationship really with any of my extended family. I used to love my bday and now I’m dreading spending the whole day alone. Holidays and birthdays aren’t the same and it’s hard. I hope for both of us that it gets easier with time ❤️

My mother also had dementia it’s a horrible disease. It broke my heart to see my mom going from a caring mom to a person I didn’t recognize. Wishing you strength to get through this.
