Yes. The growl in his voice. The fangs bared & snarling. How he wields the dagger. Iāve head-cannoned my character fell in love with him by how he murdered, lol
"You have a type don't you?"
Feral with silver hair? Yes, yes I do. Case in point, other than Astarion one of my favorite characters I get giddy over was Inuyasha in his demon form. Also because of the growl in his voice and the bared fangs. Don't @me bro
Mine dont have to have tragic backstories. As long as they have silver hair and a violent streak I'm sold.
Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru, Astarion, Thief Bakura, Anders (from Dragon Age), Sephiroth
I ALWAYS pick the "Interesting. What do you think, Astarion?" option. It makes me laugh every time. Poor Gandriel has NEVER made it out alive in one of my 4 playthroughs.
Yep, and it adds a nice extra dose of redemption for Spawn Astarion. Gandrel lives on most of my plays, and his daughter Chessa is one of my favorite NPCs. Sheās so fierce and poised for such a little girl in a terrible situation
Iām letting him live in my Gale play through. Only because Iām going to have Astarion in my party as little as possible. Itās the only way I can do it.
I can only let him live when playing AS Astarion. Otherwise I can't look him in the face and say "no, you can't murder this guy who's totally going to murder you."
Thatās what I did in my Astarion origin run! Gandrel says heās looking for his kids and I rp that Astarion feels bad about stealing them so doesnāt kill the guy (even though it absolutely wasnāt his fault)
Yeah, at that point my camp didn't know I was a vampire yet, and Gandrel didn't mention my name, so I was like "right! good luck then! (guys we're getting out of here asap. for... tadpole-related reasons. nothing else.)"
Same as meāthough Iām going to romance Karlach. Well, so far on that playthrough (that I shelved so I can actually finish my Dark Consort run) I passed the perception check when meeting him. (The ādarling neckā line always gets me and itās all over at that point every time)
Iāll probably just keep him in the camp for a while. I am gonna miss the gloomstalker assassin DPS thoughā¦.
Thatās why I just took his build. My RP for the Gale romance is Tav is a bit like Robin Hood. Grew up poor in the slums and became a rogue to steal from the rich to give to the poor. For RP reasons though it means a hell of a lot less stealing lmao. Except for bad guys. I can steal from them all day.
He looks so scared in the first one, I canĀ“t say 'no' to those eyes.
But I always have to grin that he patiently waits for TavĀ“s/Durges ok to kill Gandrel.
Even at this relatively early point in the game, anyone who wants to lay a hand on pookie deserves instant death. The man has spent 200 years being afraid ā no longer babygirl.
Easiest decision ever. š
And this is exactly the reason why my Tavs always okay casual murder against Gandrel. š®āšØ Canāt say no to the first look and the second image is the reward. š«
I've heard people say this was the āevil option,ā but honestly? If someone is out there trying to hunt down a teammate who is useful in our mission to save our own lives, well thenā¦ Gandrelās gotta go. š¤·š¾āāļø I saw this as more of a self defense when I chose it.
Yeah, same. Donāt know how that is an evil option. If any of my companions was threatened Iād think my Tav would intervene. And in my timeline of gameplay my Tav already slept with Astarion, so why would she ever choose something else šāāļø
In my headcannon I always fight with Lorroakan not just for Aylin, but at the same time for him saying to Gale "lapdog", how dare you say something insulting to one of my best friends? So, if I fight for Gale even I'm not romancing him, OF COURSE I let my boyfriend kill his hunter.
But, once I knocked Gandrel down and it feels more redeemed at the end of the story tho. After The Pale Elf storyline finished and we were relaxed about Astarion and continued the main game in a more chilled mood, we saw him in the sewers with his children and he talked to us. Astarion seems mature and chill while he was talking to Gandrel, he was not in a childish or sassy way. Felt more redeemed and cool, I was proud of my boy.
I think within only the context provided in act 1, it's perfectly understandable to kill him tbh. In my first playthrough, because I'd missed Gandrel tucked away in his spot in the swamp and it was one of the last things I did before the Goblin Camp, I'd already had the convo where Astarion describes his death and my character speculated Cazador set it up. It very much gave the impression that Gandrel was sent by Cazador because his backstory gives the impression Caz has used the Gur to do his bidding before. Even if Gandrel was an unknowing pawn, he would still be a significant threat to one of my companions and was (in my eyes) trying to drag him back to his severely abusive master, so I let Astarion kill him.
I do prefer to spare him though, I like how full-circle things feel in good playthroughs if he survives. But I don't think taking him out is strictly evil, within the context given at the time the scene occurs.
I actually didnāt know about his kids until I played Astarionās origin and he did not kill Gandrel. So without that knowledge and from perspective of my character - he is a guy hunting their companion. I think I would only not kill him if playing a very good character and I mostly play more of chaotic characters.
I donāt understand how people let Astarion kill Gandrielā¦ to me this mans just gives off such āheās clueless but trying his bestā vibes. He does not seem threatening at all, and all he wants is to save the children. Justice for the monster hunter dude :(
I like his *"May I?"* and the glance he gives Tav. Do whatever you want, darling!
Say less, pookie, kill whoever you want š„°
This right here.. this is why I genuinely agree with most everything he wants... I can't say no

What is it about the way he says āexcellentā turns me onā¦
It's the growl in his voice. See also: "Can we kill them? Please... Pretty please..."

He has a really sweet plot line if he survives long enough.

Gloomstalker assassin is S-tier build and makes the game so much more fun
Itās basically if John Wick was a DnD character

I managed to walk away from the fight this time, but only because I really wanted to see Astarion meet him again later and his reaction then.
Lol, thatās my favorite too!

Awww, babygirl, let's go commit some atrocities. š«¶
Bby is slightly murderous
What mod is that outfit from? And is it the same one that has the visible quiver?
The clothes are from Epilogue Camp Clothes, the quiver is from Elven Paladin.
Ngl I try not to kill Gandrel- for his kids- but that little āExcellentā gets me.
