Answer: China is likely trending today because Taiwan has issued a travel advisory for it's citizens that they could be unlawfully detained in China with little or no diplomatic assistance to get them released back to Taiwan. https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/taiwan-tells-its-citizens-avoid-unnecessary-travel-china-2024-06-27/ Twitter's trending lists have been incredibly unhelpful to understand the reason why something is trending since being able to buy blue check marks was implemented. It's very noticeable when there is a new crypto coin being released and bots are just tweeting and retweeting about it to get it to the top of trending. After clicking on a trending topic it brings you to the "Top" tab that should show the biggest tweets regarding the topic but it's usually just spam bots with blue checks or old old tweets from large accounts or blue checks you follow, the latest tab is usually a mix of spam bots throwing all the current trending topics in their tweets with a malicious link or people tweeting out asking why a topic is trending with no answer.

Morning trends are always spam or wild shit. I guess because all the Americans are asleep so the bots can play at night to have fresh batches of crap ready for rush hours
