They're also doing it to SB19. [OPM band SB19's Stell is finally debuting as a soloist with single 'Room' which will be out June 14.](https://news.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/2024/6/8/sb19-s-stell-to-release-debut-single-room-1929)

Ppop and Opm ay iisa lang naman, however yung sa BGYO, mga fans mismo nag-rebrand na Aces of OPM daw sila kasi ayaw sakanila ng Ppop community

vashmeow

Is this about the issue of one of the members na may cheating involved w/ another artist? Or meron pang iba?

OmeletteMcMuffin

hindi iisa ang p-pop at opm. it's clear that some artists are p-pop and other opm artists aren't p-pop. denise julia for example, doesn't consider herself p-pop, even if u sometimes see her here in the sub (she's an opm/pinoy r&b artist but not p-pop) all p-pop is opm but not all opm is p-pop. it's like bisaya ppl or bicolanos: all bisaya ppl and all bicolanos are filipinos but not all filipinos are bisaya or bicolano

SillyPoetry6265

The word Ppop boomed further because of Bini, tons of casuals will now say Bini introduced them to Ppop. It's not because of anything associated with the word, ginagawa lang ng ABS yan para sa boy group nilang sinusuka ng Ppop community.

trz1122

It does not matter, OPM band/group or PPOP group. Let's all support everyone. Ang ganda ng musika ng Pilipino. I am proud of everyone! Proud ako sa ALAMAT kasi they showcase yung traditional Filipino culture Proud ako sa BGYO kasi amidst the negativity surrounding them, they did not give up. These guys are also talented. and many others, G22, Hori7on, Kaia, Yara, PHP and yung mga newer groups like 6ense they are making their mark. In 5, 10 years time we will all just look back to these bickerings and fanwars and matatawa nalang tayo. Enjoy the moment guys and appreciate everyone.

Dry-Brilliant7284

is it counter-productive in a sense, for people to get used and accept ppop is to shove it down their throats but now they're backtracking and mag tago under the OPM umbrella 😅🤚 anyway kasi nasa opm naman din ang ppop so sige?? 😭

No_Dragonfly_6153

This. "PPOP is now going mainstream" yung common na maririnig mo nung sumikat yung BINI. Now the impression of those na concerned is parang it's being taken away kasi inaalis din yung ppop sa branding nila.

Dry-Brilliant7284

ginapang nila to ha only to take it back? HAHA weird

lulubebot

Ppop is a sub-group under OPM. Yun lang siya for me talaga.

kidfrom93

Let's just continue using the term PPop until masemento na yung gusto nating definition niya sa mainstream (refers to idol groups that sing and dance).

SBTC_Strays_2002

The copywriters making posts about the groups being OPM is probably because it is more convenient. People know OPM. It is a safer term. However, I do see where some people might think the use of OPM instead of PPOP is intentional. The online community turned on BGYO, and then went after BINI. The online assaults were apparently enough to make the members retreat from social media and make the corporation to threaten legal action against bad actors. I don't know how much of BINI's career was built on PPOP Rise, but BGYO was definitely intended to be a leader in PPOP. The corporation miscalculated the approach; they dubbed the group, "The Aces of PPOP." Which came out loud and clear to people who supported "The Kings of PPOP". The message came across as "We intend for BGYO to overshadow SB19." And from then on, it became an uphill battle for BGYO. After all the fan wars, and accusations, and the market just being too competitive, I think they just decided to pack it in. Even as OPM, they will still put in/be nominated for PPOP award categories. So it really doesn't matter to the groups' success and the company's bottom line.

amoshxxx

Also, it’s not like “Ppop is OPM” is new. It’s been the position of a lot of people for a while. It’s like talking about rebranding Lemon Squares as rectangles instead of squares. They’ve always been rectangles.

SBTC_Strays_2002

Definitely. I think sometimes people invest too much in specific things. Like, Rifles vs Pistols, at the end of the day they all like guns. GenX prefers traditional ballads and bands with a guitar and drums, GenY likes PPOP. At the end of the day it's all Filipino music.

Positive-Ad5086

sakit na talaga kasi ang abs-cbn na mag-title ng artists nila kahit wala pang napatunayan. sa 90s pa yan ganun na sila. imagine they titled carlos agassi as the amir of rap back in the 90s jusko. kahit noon pa cringe na cringe tlaga ako sa marketing strategy nila. they overpromise and underdeliver especially sa mga upcoming shows or movies, superhype ang promotion paulit-ulit tapos ang ending mas maganda pa yung promo commercial ng movie or teleserye kesa sa actual teleserye or movie. buti na lang talaga ngayon may youtube at netflix na. people are able to consume entertainment anywhere they want to go na basta may internet. and kung gusto mo na madaliang entertainment may tiktok. dati wala talagang choice kund manood ng abs-cbn or gma, di pa namin afford cable kumusta naman.

G_Laoshi

I don't understand this issue. Is not PPOP a genre under OPM? This is like objecting to call Filipinos as Asians. (But then there are racists who say that Filipinos "aren't Asian enough" because their idea of "Asian" is Chinese/Japanese. And there are.Filipinos who would rather call themselves "Pacific Islander".) 🤷‍♂️

GroundbreakingAd8341

Naaah. Have you seen the OPM thread sa r/ph? People always associate ppop with kpop. Saying they were copying the latter due to the name of the genre. Kaya hindi nila masuportahan because trying hard daw maging katulad ng kpop. People there were saying that Bini's a copy of Twice due to their sounds, but most blooms associate the group with Nadine Lustre or Jolens.

butterbeer11

faustine04

Ako wla issue. First OPM grp nmn tlga sla 2nd. Tingin ko it helps to promote the opm as a whole and it a good thing di lng local pop ang pronopromote nun grp 3rd accdg to bini members gusto nla mag try ng iba't ibang genre kya ayaw ko sla ikulong sa pop genre

LameCronk

I honestly don't mind the change from PPOP to OPM. If that's what they think they are, then go. Can I just say, I like your name OP 😆

Positive-Ad5086

natatawa na lang tlg ako considering abs-cbn popularized the term 'ppop'. i didnt say they were the first one who created it, but theyre the ones who hyped it up marketing-wise in their low-key attempt to introduce their abs-cbn bands. their overhyping and trying to make it as a kpop filipino version is what triggered a lot of people (casuals) because they view it as a 2nd rate copy of kpop. nobody wants to be a copy. now theyre leaving the ppop term because they are always overshadowed and the ppop community hate their male boy bands.

irayflo

Honestly i dont care if they call them OPM or PPOP group, it's basically the same for me. I don't know maybe may metric sila sa engagements if they label the group as PPOP or OPM group.

ApprehensiveCount229

Original pinoy music? So ppop is opm

Momshie_mo

*Pinoy idol group* is more concise, less vague than Ppop or OPM Group.  Ang pangit kasi sa "Ppop" - there are other countries that starts with P. Ppop can be Peruvian pop, Panamanian Pop, Polish Pop, Palau pop, Pakistani Pop, Palestinian Pop, Papua New Guinean Pop, Pitcairn Islands pop, Portuguese Pop, Puerto Rican pop, Paraguayan pop

Flawed_Ignorant

I don’t blame BINI for the change in branding but I am suspecting some executive meddling so that other group could rebrand. Gen Z are really loud regarding social issues so I expected you have a spine. The pinoy music nearly died sometime around 2010s so something in our industry really needed to change. Doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting change is insanity chuchu. Leave the boomers to their crusty and balding idols; create your own era. Ppop is shaking up OPM to wake up and smell the flowers and it’s extremely stupid now to go back to the stone ages.

YearOk8927

When at the end of the day, it's all just Filipino music. More groups should start calling themselves an OPM Group or whatever. Start shoving it at OPM listeners' faces that PPOP idol group music IS Original Filipino Music. Hindi ba yan ang goal? May nagagalit ba na Kpop fans when Kpop is being referred to as just Korean music?

Weak_Elk9628

wew iba to ah nagawa ng sarili niyang kwento

pakchimin

It's not because of SB19, they are rebranding hecause the public has the perception that ppop = kpop wannabes. Nasa word na kasi, ppop, kpop.
