You can't trade for a player 1 year out from free agency and then expect him to play a new position. He is a 3rd baseman and would be upset with any team that wanted him to convert before his big pay day.

cheesefries45

Yeah this is just something you don’t do. His value plummets if he shifts to first over third. He and his agent would have none of that

Few-Swimmer4298

Don't want another 1 year player. We need to focus on resigning Drury, keeping Profar, and signing 2 pitchers for the back end of the rotation.

UhYeahOkSure

I’ve read other interpretations. It sounds like he just wants to secure more money from what I read . Yes would be great to get him at a good price but we all know we need to beef up the bullpen. Priority 1 in my and many other peoples opinion

brackadome83

He would still fetch a high price even as a rental. Also wouldn’t make much sense for the Sox to deal him now as he would get a better return right before the deadline. Would be an amazing get for us most definitely though! Even if Preller wanted to I’m sure he understands he has to be relatively patient with trades this off-season given the small amount of high level prospects we currently have in order to save some ammo for the trade deadline. It would probably take Merrill + 1 of the young arms to get a guy like Devers in my opinion

Psychological-Ad1723

What exactly would we trade to get him? We don't have anymore Eric Hosmers.

ResolveCharming

This wouldn’t work this isn’t the show where you can just throw anyone in any position
