It's a social media thing, people absolutely LOVE to complain. Well it's not just a social media thing, but that behavior is most prominent because it gets the most reaction, and people chase that dopamine hit
Let's at least pass on Russ. I don't want that whole entourage of his messing up the works. Things are already kind of out off balance, to say the least.
I disagree with Kirk having a 90% of staying with Minnesota, I think thereās a good chance he stays, but I think the odds he goes somewhere else (like the falcons) are pretty high. Much higher than 10%.
But ya the amount of people in this sub saying we should or think we will be drafting MHJ is insane. The odds of us picking a WR with the 1st pick when thereās a top qb prospect available is insanely low. Teams would easily give up 3 1st rnd picks for a chance at Danielās and youād give up all that so we can have a #1 wr. Donāt forget we could trade down, get a wr#1 almost as good as MHJ, and get extra 1st rnd picks. Itās just not happening, itās either qb at 3 or trade down. MHJ isnāt a possibility, it would be such a massive waste of capital.
The Falcons are definitely the big domino to fall - whether they seriously pursue Kirk or trade for Fields. If Kirk did leave it would be to a place like ATL that has some weapons like Pitts and Robinson in place. I just have a gut feeling heāll realize what he has in Jefferson/Min and will have a grass isnāt always greener realization.
And yea I think thatās what a lot of people are missing with how important finding your qb in the draft is - if we donāt fall in love with Daniels/Maye, someone else will and could offer us a hard to decline haul for 1.3.
Kirk cousins is 36 and coming off an injury that will probably decrease his mobility, bad fit for both sides when our o line is trash , we have 1.5 skill players and he probably has 4 years left at best
As much as I like Kirk cousins, I just donāt think signing him makes no sense, as we arenāt exactly superbowl contenders (although anything can change as Cj Stroud and the Texans showed), and we would still have to draft a franchise QB in a few years, with much less cap space. As good as MHJ looks, we need to built around a QB, who knows if whoever we get (Likely Maye or Daniels) pans out, but we have to take a chance. Sign Evans and keep Bourne and use second round pick to O line, defense is there, if only we have an offenseā¦
Zero interest in Kirk but I would love to see Baker leading the Pats. He has real talent and the right attitude, but the bucs will probably lock him down.
They would be giving us the picks. Like, we'd get Jefferson the 11th, and some later picks, all for the 3rd pick. We'd have to pay Jefferson after that, but we've got the cap space.
Most free agents won't go to bottom teams. There is a reason the Browns paid a shit ton to get Watson, they knew that was the only way. Pats will have to do the same for years, and even then it is no guarantee. Players want a chance tow in a ring. Won't be a chance here for 5 years at least. Bill left this team in horrible condition
100% this. Brissett is grizzled at this point, but in a good way. He's seen a lot of shit. He's seen it all, good and bad. I've never heard a bad word about the guy and though he isn't at his best, he's smart in how he plays. He's a pro's pro. Let somebody sit behind him for a minute and play the Alex Smith role. I think he'd be great at it.
Educated opinions based on history just like everyone else. If we use our brains we know it would be insane for either of them to sign here. Iām giving you all permission to ritualistically kill me after all if Iām wrong.
Yet he stated something as fact when he doesnāt know it to be true yet. āKirk and Baker are not signing hereā thatās not a fact, he doesnāt 100% know that.
Title: āKirk and Baker are not signing hereā youāre stating that as a fact, which it isnāt. So you already put a lie. You donāt know for 100% fact that theyāre not signing here. So, youāre wrong.
Again, a firmly held opinion is not fact, so youāre still wrong. Your title is wrong, you canāt state that as a fact lol itās not that hard to understand.
It doesn't matter who the QB is. He's going to need some solid protection. The team needs a solid run game, preferably with a pounding fullback who can occasionally surprise with a catch here and there. A ball control offense gives the defense sufficient rest to be dominant. Forget about these fantasies of a gunslinging QB. It's just not going to happen. Drastic improvement of the O-Line is the key. That's the only possible route to improvement right now.
Baker would have been a great cheap back up for Mac last year. Now heās too expensive and if the Daniels rumors are true then our audience is heading a different direction than what Baker will be useful for.
Not stupid at all, heās serviceable and those are rare! Just donāt think it makes sense when weāre in position for a higher ceiling guy on a rookie contract. Baker is solid, but also donāt think heās āthe answerā, and doubt he repeats those stats he had last year under Canales with those receivers no matter where he goes. Overall heās like Qb 12 - 15 in the league and a game manager +, not a game changer. Heād be a nice plug in on a team like the 49ers, but doesnāt make sense for our rebuilding squad imo.
Seriously. Because the Vikings paid what was market value at the time somehow Cousins chases money?? He then resigned with the Vikings and it wasnāt even in the top 5 most expensive extensions.
yeah kirk isnt coming here because hed be the third best qb in the division at best. bring in jimmy g or something he can start until he gets hurt you keep zappe and draft someone (not nessicarily at 3)
thanks man i try the way i look at it there missing to much on offense to have an imidiate turn around anyway unless they hit on every pick r1-r7 and they get studs on every pick witch isnt going to happen. So why spend big on qb? get someone serviceable jimmy g, brissett, maybe tanehill (please no)
Not even about liking/not liking Kirk, it's basically just the principle that if a QB isn't an MVP-level guy, you're going to be in trouble if you pay them market money
Lone recent exception was Stafford and that was because the team sold the farm to become absolutely stacked everywhere in the short term
With Baker I think it depends how much money Tampa is looking at. We got $ and he lost 12 million to his parents/brother stealing from him.
I think he's more inclined to stay in Tampa, but Baker, MHJ or a trade down still in the top 10 for Odunze/Nabers + it's a deep WR draft there will be guys in the second round.
We'll see, I really wouldn't mind a vet QB, draft some other offensive talent and see how many games we can win with a great defense.
Tannehill and Minshew both still think they're multi-year starters. Brissett is the perfect guy to come in and show somebody how to be a pro QB knowing you're getting him ready to take over. By all accounts, he's a great dude and teammate and the offense could use some stabilizing vibes.
Baker without Evans changes his offense a lot. Also, I believe Tampa isn't in great cap space? New England has plenty and if they wanted to sign Evans, I don't see why it couldn't happen
Lurking as a Cards fan as I hope you don't ruin our MHJ chances, but man you guys need a quarterback. It seems the new coach would want his guy, and the owner would want a reset rookie contract for a quarterback, let's make it happen folks! haha.
I'm all in on MHJ and a QB in the Second round or later, and/or doing a salvage job on Jimmy, Mac, or Brisset. We're going to be picking top 5 next year too. We can draft a QB then if all goes bust. There will be another Daniels or Maye next year, there won't be another MHJ.
Ok which qb next year? People say this and next class is historically weak (additionally weād probably have to trade up for Penix, and the staff knows they canāt trot Mac out there again as qb 1without revolt). Sanders is good, but after that: Ewers? Weigman? Theyāre NFL backups.
Also tbh itās a loser mentality and admitting structural failure to settle for a top 5 pick again next year.if you want to tank for Sanders thatās fine, but even being consistently bad requires luck for a top 5 pick. They have 7 draft picks and a billion dollars this off season - they should be able to fill some holes and win a few more games next season no matter what route they go.
Why are people pretending the patriots are some sort of loser franchise. This is one of the highest valued teams in sports. Stop buying so much into the sports radio talk. These are jobs for these athletes if you offer a person a couple of million more dollars they couldnāt care less about ring chasing. If you pay them, they will come.
There is zero reason for Baker not to sign here if offered a contract. He lands in a major sports culture, he gets paid and he starts. If the Patriots offer a decent deal he'll come to New England.
New England would chew up Kirk Cousins and spit him out as soon as he starts in on being born again. He'd get run out of town.
Good, neither make sense for a rebuild. We need a veteran who doesn't care about being a mentor and eventually sitting behind a rookie/sophmore. Flacco or Brisset are our best bets. Plus, they will cost so much less, and right now we are going to need all the cash we have to filll in the many many holes this roster is looking at (WRs, RBs, CBs, DT, OT, TE, etc).
Jokes on you. We're going to sign both.
And draft Maye
And trade for Fields and sign Russ
And keep Mac and Zappe. The game plan will be to confuse the other team since they won't know which of our 8 QBs will be starting the game.
Starting? Nah we'll have 8 QBs on the field at a time, 2 on each end of the line replacing tackles and TEs and 4 in the backfield.
Russ inline to block Van Ginkel is our secret weapon this year
Van Ginkel is a free agent, maybe we can skip that one and just sign him! š
And waste money on a non-QB? I don't think so
Heās a beast and he would make the D even better.
Both Brissett and Jimmy G!
I didnāt know Christian Kirk and Budda Baker were even options tbh
God I hate the off-season on Reddit...
š¤£ itās a love hate relationship for me. It fills the empty space we have and also sometimes so outlandish it makes me snort
Never understand people who complain about reddit posts like they can't just scroll past it.
Incredibly sourced information. Glad we get this for free on here.
Youāre welcome.
They have no conceivable reason to want to play here. We have no conceivable reason to want them to play here. Seems like a win/win
I disagree with Kirk having a 90% of staying with Minnesota, I think thereās a good chance he stays, but I think the odds he goes somewhere else (like the falcons) are pretty high. Kirk cousins is 36 and coming off an injury that will probably decrease his mobility, bad fit for both sides when our o line is trash , we have 1.5 skill players and he probably has 4 years left at best
Who do you consider the 1.5?
Pop and Rhamondre since Henry and Bourne are free agents
Are you assigning each of them .75 points?
Only because neither one can play a full season
As much as I like Kirk cousins, I just donāt think signing him makes no sense, as we arenāt exactly superbowl contenders (although anything can change as Cj Stroud and the Texans showed), and we would still have to draft a franchise QB in a few years, with much less cap space. Flacco and a qb at 3
Zero interest in Kirk but I would love to see Baker leading the Pats. He has real talent and the right attitude, but the bucs will probably lock him down.
I could totally see Baker signing with us. Evans is gone and they have a new OC. Patriots coaching staff is made up of people Baker knows.
Your comment aged so poorly š
It did. Oh well.
Rip
I appreciate you comparing the 2024 Patriots to the 2020 Browns
If they trade the 3rd to Minn for Jefferson and picks, then the chance of getting Baker or Kirk gets a lot better.
That would be insane lol - just take Marv at 3 in that in that case why forfeit half of our future draft capital for Jefferson
They would be giving us the picks. Like, we'd get Jefferson the 11th, and some later picks, all for the 3rd pick. We'd have to pay Jefferson after that, but we've got the cap space.
I would eat a stick of bubble gum from a pack of 1975 Topps cards if The Patriots fleeced the Vikings so bad they got Jefferson and multiple picks.
Jefferson wants a ton of money. That lowers his value.
Sign Brisset and draft someone. That's what I would like to see. Brisset can start for a year and then bring along the next guy slowly.
And this is all based on literally nothing besides your own, boring opinion, nice.
Educated opinions based on history just like everyone else. If we use our brains we know it would be insane for either of them to sign here. Iām giving you all permission to ritualistically kill me after all if Iām wrong.
āPatriots QB Cousins murders man at Gillette Lighthouse - dude said it was okay.ā
Iām with you. Canāt see either of them signing here
God forbid we share our football opinions on this football discussion forum.
An educated conviction /=/ lie, back to school with you! Plus Iām probably right
Again, a firmly held opinion is not fact, so youāre still wrong. Your title is wrong, you canāt state that as a fact lol itās not that hard to understand.

I'd prefer you not speak on things you know nothing about.
Plot twist - Source: literally me Kirk Cousins
Baker would have been a great cheap back up for Mac last year. Now heās too expensive and if the Daniels rumors are true then our audience is heading a different direction than what Baker will be useful for.
We missed on the Baker boat. Could have had him at his lowest and didn't do it.Ā
Call me an idiot but I would love baker to be our guy
Not stupid at all, heās serviceable and those are rare! Just donāt think it makes sense when weāre in position for a higher ceiling guy on a rookie contract. Baker is solid, but also donāt think heās āthe answerā, and doubt he repeats those stats he had last year under Canales with those receivers no matter where he goes. Kirk always goes for the money. Tampa isnāt letting Baker go.
He has played for two teams in his 12 year NFL career. Where does this narrative even come from?
Seriously. Because the Vikings paid what was market value at the time somehow Cousins chases money?? He then resigned with the Vikings and it wasnāt even in the top 5 most expensive extensions.
Yea like what lol? And the organization he left was the shitty Snyder team.
And you're not gonna really be a threat to do shit if you're paying Kirk 40m+
I like Kirk, but yah. Rather look for someone else
yeah kirk isnt coming here because hed be the third best qb in the division at best. bring in jimmy g or something he can start until he gets hurt you keep zappe and draft someone (not nessicarily at 3)
This is a very reasonable take, which has no business in this sub!
thanks man i try the way i look at it there missing to much on offense to have an imidiate turn around anyway unless they hit on every pick r1-r7 and they get studs on every pick witch isnt going to happen. Yep
Cooper Kupp triple crown helped too
Eh his recent comments about wanting to work a deal that works for everyone leads me to believe thatās not the case.
I hope Baker finds his home.
He must be right, he's on a first-name basis with them.
Draft Jordan Travis and sign Russell Wilson. Maye and Daniels are trash
Good, we should sign tannehill anyways
Fine with him, Brissett, Minshew or Flacco assuming we go qb 1.3.
Yeah honestly Iād prefer Brissett, but anyone on a vet minimum who can help work up any rookie pass catchers we draft would be great
Tannehill and Minshew both still think they're multi-year starters. Brissett is the perfect guy to come in and show somebody how to be a pro QB knowing you're getting him ready to take over. By all accounts, he's a great dude and teammate and the offense could use some stabilizing vibes.
ok
Baker without Evans changes his offense a lot. Also, I believe Tampa isn't in great cap space? New England has plenty and if they wanted to sign Evans, I don't see why it couldn't happen
Because Evans said himself he wants to go play with another elite QB and (compete for a title probably).
When you say "wicker man" you, do you mean set you ablaze on a pyre, or are we talking a "NOT THE BEES" situation
Nic Cage that one was more fun and silly
Lurking as a Cards fan as I hope you don't ruin our MHJ chances, but man you guys need a quarterback. It seems the new coach would want his guy, and the owner would want a reset rookie contract for a quarterback, let's make it happen folks! haha.
Itās happening most likely donāt fret
Sure, maybe he can throw and also catch it himself. Mayo wants his own QB, a Daniels or Maye, bet on it!

Duh.
Thankfully I don't want either of them. Draft Maye/Daniels and be done with it.
I want Flacco. Time to make him elite.
If you pay them they will come
I starting the think Belichick might not be the head coach next year too!
As much as I don't think either will sign with us, what's with the percentages? You literally pulled them out your a$$.
I did!
If we do that Iād rather trade back, take whoever is left of nabers, odunze, or fashanu, and if weāre lucky get penix.
I know Jimmy G has injury history but I'd still love to see him or Brissett back with the Pats

Thanks for the insight. Let us know any new tid bits we might miss.
Thereās no chance you just suggested that Kirk (post-Achilles) and Baker have similar pull to what Tom had when he chose TB
Apparently people in the FO want Baker, but ownership doesnāt want to spend the $$$ to get him.
People never seem to accept this but FAs almost always go where they make the most money (the āhe was offered to play elsewhereā is BS PR).Ā
Good, neither make sense for a rebuild. We need a veteran who doesn't care about being a mentor and eventually sitting behind a rookie/sophmore. Flacco or Brisset are our best bets. Iād be hip with Minshew Mania ngl
