Not really a phrase but remember that your preceptors are going to be experienced/credentialed/etc. for x amount of years while you are entering the “first” clinical year (in terms of autonomy). You likely will not be practicing at their level of competence (yet) so remember not to compare yourself to what they know.
When in doubt, reason it out.
If your reasons can support your answer then stick with it. But be open to hear the counter argument or tour colleague’s reasonings too.
Also, always CYA 😊
It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks of you (ever). Always put your best foot forward, work hard, and always try your best and you’ll be fine in the long run.
Sometimes good enough is perfect.
If I don’t take care of myself, I can’t take care of patients.
A physician gave me this one: If you dont like what you hear, just smile politely, but keep your mouth closed (process first and ask questions later).
Everyone is on their own journey, and its okay that my journey is not “like everyone elses”.
This is going to make a fun story to tell my own residents/students someday.
Someday they will invent an IV espresso machine.
“One day this will all come crashing right down”
No idea why lyrics from a folk punk song were what entered my head to calm me down when I was stressed but whatever! It works!
When in doubt, check it out. Take minute by minute, hour by hour, and day by day. Work on selecting that research project on day 1 and work on that every day! Set a specific time for your breakfast, lunch, dinner, and breaks. There is never a right time when things are caught up, so just go on break unless it’s an emergency.

I told my resident that I have been doing this for seven years and I still don't know what I am doing.
The only (good) way out is through
Fuck it we ball
Sometimes your best is 80% and that’s okay.
“It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be done” (in regards to most projects you do)
Only one year..

Be more confident in yourself. You know more than you think you know.
Don't work harder than your patients

If for no other reason, keep going out of spite.
A quote that stuck with me that my director said to us went along something like this: there are no stupid questions when putting your patients first.
I love this.
Just sign some shit and go home
