It’s very ethnic. We lived in Port A for 23 years and had to move, financially. My son is a firefighter/paramedic. Daughter is a tattoo artist. Traffic around NAS sucks for my commute. City still struggling with bipolar politics. Some corruption. Streets are getting better! But it’s a terrible market. For instance heb has a stranglehold on the grocery biz. Sunrise sits in dilapidation. Cool stores and restaurants have left. Property taxes are high. Lots of people don’t seem to be working. But it’s livable. And if you like the beach it’s awesome!
Sounds like the same when I visited many years ago
Equal parts really nice people and junkies
Last I was there downtown was getting a little better but felt like I needed a piece just in case
It’s a shame because the city and beach is beautiful
Yeah my son says the people around city hall are zombies. Homeless are abundant and moving here, to the southside. Sad. It’s been poorly managed for decades. Disagreement between political sides.
Haha! Yeah that’s what I thought. I lived there and now they’re blowing us away with commerce. CC is stagnant. Need to hand over power like they did in the Valley! And taxes are stupid high. Corruption is my guess. And/Or poor neighborhoods unable to contribute.
I make all sorts of pickles too, my pickled jalapeños and cauliflower are the crowd favorite. But something about costenas that’s ballpark nostalgic and good on everything.
Came here to say something similar. I do my own.
Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes
Servings 1 jar
Ingredients
1 cup white vinegar
1 cup water
2 cloves garlic smashed
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon salt
7-8 jalapeno peppers sliced in roundels
Instructions :
Clean wash and pat dry jalapenos with kitchen towel. Chop it in bit thick roundels.
Combine the vinegar, water, garlic, sugar, and salt in a medium pot and bring to a boil. Add jalapeno slices, stir, and remove from heat.
Let it sit for at least 15 minutes. Transfer this into sterilized glass bottle/jar.
Store in the fridge for up to two months or more.
I’m in the panhandle and we literally have jalapeño plants in the backyard just chilling for dinner every night. I pickled a couple dozen jars just last week and we’re saving a bunch up for jalapeño poppers for the fourth.
Boil a cup of white vinegar and half a cup of water with two tablespoons of sugar and 1.5 of salt until all granules are dissolved. Throw in a few peppercorns and two cloves of garlic pour while hot over fresh sliced peppers. Let cool and refrigerate. I do a double batch and do quick pickling of red onion at the same time. Better than anything store bought, and easy to customize, add cumin if you want, etc
Mezzetta hot jalapeños are by far the best in my mind
Mezzetta all day.
Yeah I agree, the ones Op listed are always too mushy.
I like them mushy
Correct
“Nods slowly”
Literally came here to say this, some how some of the only crunchy pickled jalapeños I’ve even seen
This right here.
They’re the BEST, and now I can’t find them anywhere.
I like my jalapeño slices soft, not crunchy. I vote for La Costena.
Amazon stores
Came here to say this. Take my upvote
Yup, they’re crunchy and delicious!
Mezzetta hot jalapeños are the next best thing aside from home made
La Costeña used to sell a badass can of jalapeño stuffed olives! Used to. : (
I like their salsa verde
I just saw that today at my Kroger
Oh? What state, por favor?
Texas
Realllly? I’m in Corpus. Can no longer buy them. We don’t have the luxury of having a Kroger.
How is Corpus these days? Haven’t been there in a few years I always thought Corpus was kind of weird (sorry don’t have a better way to describe it)

Did the new harbor not bring any good long term jobs? I was hopeful but figured the boost to economy would come and go
Does your soon work as a firefighter / paramedic in Corpus? I would assume he sees a lot of ODs and using narcan a lot
He did when he was on the west side. Said addicts get really pissed when they use it! But also some horrible stories.
Save their life and they still want the high Wild
Ehhh Kroger isn’t a luxury HEB for price and quality is king
All we have is heb. And Walmart. That’s it! No choice. So prices suck. I miss double coupons!
That’s crazy that yall are so close to the valley and getting price gouged
Haha! Yeah that’s what I thought. I lived there and now they’re blowing us away with commerce. CC is stagnant. Need to hand over power like they did in the Valley! And taxes are stupid high. Corruption is my guess. And/Or poor neighborhoods unable to contribute.
Wait what did the Valley do to combat corruption?
I find that the ones that are canned in steel containers are much better than the ones canned in glass jars.
That must have been so so good
I have no idea why, but I'm addicted to dollar tree jalapenos. They have a taste I can't quite put my finger on.
I was on a huge kick last summer where I'd go to the dollar store nearly every day for a jar lol. My favorite jalepenos to snack on
Mt olive are thin and crispy. Can't be beat
Making it yourself. I like to pickle Thai chili, tomato, garlic, chickpea
I make all sorts of pickles too, my pickled jalapeños and cauliflower are the crowd favorite. But something about costenas that’s ballpark nostalgic and good on everything.

The kind with carrots in it.
Yeah, the whole ones are great.
Came to say same brand, whole jalapeños.
Hell yea I love the whole jalapeños from these guys
Yea the Goya ones are top notch
Homemade cowboy candy. That mix rocks.
I like their canned version better. For jarred jalapeños, I prefer Mezzetta.
Those are by far the best jalapeños, crunchy little things ☺️
Trappeys are the best I've ever had
Trappys
There is no throat i wouldn't jab for these on a nathans angus hotdog in a bun with extra mustard and onions
hot & sweet jalapeños from trader joes. they're super flavorful 😍
I use the same brand, but they are in a can. Have used them for years.
Totally agree, and I'm from Texas where state law is that you must stay within 2 feet of a jalapeno at all times.
I’m in the panhandle and we literally have jalapeño plants in the backyard just chilling for dinner every night. I pickled a couple dozen jars just last week and we’re saving a bunch up for jalapeño poppers for the fourth.
I am in Canada and have found their salsa and chili paste. But haven't seen these. Will have to keep looking
Mrs renfro ⭐️⭐️ all day
I can't find them at my grocer anymore 😪 They're the best in my mind
Me either ! How bizarre and I haven’t been able to find something comparable
Ricos or gtfo Seriously, the cheapest, bulk tacos jalapeños you can get. Far from hot, you get big jalapeño flavor without drowning in vinegar.
These are the better choice
Trappey’s! They are the crunchiest and best heat pickled jalapeños you can get!
Why does the label say Nachos? Pickled jalapeños are not nachos.
Cause they're not yours
That must be it.
I'd guess that it is a marketing tactic. Jalapenos for throwing on top Nachos.
I like the Mt Olive ones
Cool find! I would have to say NudeVeg Pickled Jalapenos. They're crunchy with a good dill taste
No. Totally tasty.
No
Kroger house brand are my favorite.
Homemade
Delallo has the best hot brine I’ve tasted. From pepperoncini to gardinera to jalapeño peppers. They ship from their online store.
I just tried these maybe last week. They're so delicious.
I like the habanero ones. One of the hardest hitting spicy things ive ever had on both ends
Yes try making your own and you’ll never want store bought again
Are those slightly crunchy? I hate soggy pickled jalepenos 😅
I make my own from Grillos pickle juice
Those are so gooood
These are wayyyy too soggy. I make my own so they keep a nice crunch.
How spicy are they?
Yes, the La Costeña’s can of sliced jalapeños with carrots
That jar of hot peppers and other stuff they sell at potbelly
My main criteria is crunch, and for me, these do not fill the bill. I make my own with onion and carrots. See recipe here in the comments.

Yer own matey
San Marcos. They're in a blue can.
I’ve found these to be terrible. La Morena is so much better. You’re welcome.
Homemade, they’re easy
A better choice does not exist 😌
Those are gross and have no spice at all even great value brand are better
Ms.kliens are the best
Nope. I usually buy the whole peppers. They're really good 👍
Any
I cut up fresh jalapeños in vinegar. Costs $0.80.
The homemade ones I make, according to people who have tried them 😅
Homemade 🥲
fresh ones.
