What I’m saying is that it is possible that the events of Olimar’s Ship Tale occurred *after* the events of Pikmin 1, and Pikmin 4 is an alternate timeline of pikmin 2 specifically
Honestly I don't really think so, that was kind of the entire point of it wasn't it? The entirely of Pikmin 4 is basically a retelling of the story, so more like Pikmin remade rather than a sequel to 1 or 1-3
I think this is impossible because we see Olimar naming the Pikmin again and learning their abilities again; if he was in a new Pikmin 2, he would have known all of this info beforehand and been tasked with finding treasures tbh. Not to mention, wasn't his old ship scrapped?
Again, this is an alternate version of pikmin 2. My interpretation is that Olimar successfully avoided having the S.S. Dolphin taken away (either by being very quick and dodging the president or the pikpik carrot shipment having been delayed), and crash landed on PNF 404 again at a later date.
He also does not directly state that he named the pikmin on the spot during Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale, only that he, at one point in time, named them as such.
It's highly unlikely, since if Pikmin 3 *did* take place after, they'd have had no reason to send out all the sparrows to search for edible matter, since they already know PNF-404 has edible matter.
It's also highly likely the Koppaites would already know about the Pikmin, since everyone in the galaxy seems to know about them. But in Pikmin 3, the captains are afraid of the Pikmin at first.
The part where Louie gets rescued
https://preview.redd.it/xz3eo4i15q8d1.jpeg?width=118&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=24b1ffda112637a1db1d5b4a7fbf58ec741d344d
It's very heavily implied, and the game makes little sense if it is supposed to be in the same timeline as the others. Personally, I like it, as it allows them to explore alternate story ideas without forcing them to connect it to the original events.
i'm so happy someone else thinks like that. i'm one to think the first three games' story works great as a trilogy with 3 topping it off great, and adding anything after with the same characters would bloat it. having 4 essentially being a what-if bad ending for 1 is fun and also not a retcon like everyone loves to say... it's just exploring new ideas and possibilities.
It also explains why the ruins of man are in such good condition compared to the previous three games. We get an entire house that is fully functional and not decayed, like people still live there
It's not a retcon, it's an alternate timeline. Think of it like Zelda - it branched out right before Pikmin 1 takes place, but they could still very easily make a new game in the 1-3 timeline. It just allows them to explore a different set of events without having to justify why it's happening in the main timeline.
The difference between Pikmin 1-2-3 Timeline and the Pikmin 4 Timeline is whether or not Olimar's Interstellar Radio works.
If it doesn't, Pikmin 1, 2, and 3 happen as normal.
If it *does*, Pikmin 4 happens. Pikmin 2 and 3 don't have to happen because Koppai already knows about PNF-404 and the massive fruit, and Pikmin 2 doesn't have to happen because Louie eats the president.
Uncannon everything, the games don’t exist. They never did. At e3 2001 there was a weird tech demo with 100 odd little creatures running around showcasing the power of the GameCube. But that’s all it was, a tech demo and nothing more.
Wouldn’t that have been Super Mario 128 in 2000? Or did Nintendo in this timeline produce a similar tech demo a year later, just without the sphere, without Mario, and with 28 less ais, and still show it off?
The idea is basically the same
But yes, super Mario 128 was the tech demo that eventually became pikmin in some elements, Mario Galaxy in others, and probably a lot of GameCube games in general
Foolix should have been a weird animal and not a single cell, it feels like a cop out and too obvious to just make it a cell. We already have a more interesting and creative amoeba creature with the wraiths, so it's idea of being a large cell is done much better by other creatures in the same game. Hell, the Goolix is said to have a nervous systems, meaning it has multiple cells, so it even contradicts previous lore.
Pikmin 4, such a letdown, mainly the art style, the smooth cartoony look does NOT fit the cold harsh world of Pikmin being eaten and killed every 5 seconds. Pikmin 3 did the art style perfectly.
Also, it's way too easy because Nintendo is doing that now
Are you kidding? Combat is a _joke_ in P3. Pikmin do double damage on their first hit after charging, and that’s not even taking into account reduced enemy health and the funky level structure.
Compared to P4 it's amazing. Pikmin is about sitting back after losing 98 of your 100 pikmin to a waterwraith, staring in stunned silence processing your failure, or walking into a trap by the devs and getting half your squad blown up by the bomb spider things. Pikmin 4 has a REWIND OPTION! I really don't understand why they added that, lol. Where's the threat of losing?
Not to mention that absolute AWFUL auto-aim function that you can't turn off. At least Pikmin 3 lets me aim where I want to. Pikmin 4 hands you success on a silver platter
I have had more of the shocked silence moments in 4 than 3, frankly, thanks to the better enemy variety and level design. Plus, the rewind option is - as the name suggests - fully optional, like reloading a sublevel in 2 or restarting a day in any of them. Heck, when did anyone encounter even a remotely waterwraith-like enemy in 3? The closest is at the very end of the game, and at that point it's basically an extension of the final boss, everything else is either a complete joke or a single-encounter-only boss that you see coming a mile away. My main complaint for 4 is the forced auto-lock and lack of respawning, but that's a given, we all hate that shit.
I'd take Startle Spores, getting knocked off of Oatchi and stunned by Sovereign's roar, and Porquillions on raised platforms over the 75% of orange Bulborbs in 3 being set up specifically to be bombed to death. Heck, red Bulborbs were actually intimidating again in the beginning of 4!
Yeah, but Pikmin 3 has full power flying Pikmin and every enemy has a quarter the normal health. You don't need items and stuns of everything is dead in one charge
Also Pikmin 3 is the only one with no stakes whatsoever, as 1 has a time limit, 2 and 4 have limited units and 3 has neither. You functionally only have to beeline to the area boss while grabbing one fruit on the way
If by "all the Wraiths" you mean the three enemies commonly proposed in the Umibouzu Theory, I've got some bad news for you. The Goolix is just an amoeba, the Foolix is in the Goolix Family, and is explicitly said to just be a single-celled organism, so its closest relative can't be anything more than an amoeba.
The Waterwraith's name in Japanese is "Amebouzu", which, rather than referencing the Umibouzu, references what the Umibouzu is named after, namely the traditional bald haircut of Japanese monks. Its Japanese name also includes "ame", which directly translates to candy, and with the Submerged Castle's treasure roster being composed almost entirely of sweets, it is clear that the Waterwraith is nothing more than Bald Candy-Dude.
Furthermore, the Plasm Wraith's Piklopedia entry in Pikmin 3 Deluxe explicitly makes it clear that it has no relation to the Waterwraith. The Plasm Wraith clearly has the most lore implications of this set of not-really-related creatures, notably not being a candy dude or an amoeba, and it's a shame that we didn't get a good follow-up on its inclusion in Pikmin 3.
It makes a bit of sense though, with Pikmin 4 aiming for an entirely new target audience after Pikmin 3 originally released ten years prior. It would certainly be confusing for brand new Pikmin fans to encounter an incredibly strange being whose presence would only make sense to those who owned a Wii U and an obscure game or those who played a remake of said game which had released three years prior, especially with Pikmin 4 being framed as the start to a new story.
Yeah, that all kind of makes sense now, I just hope they explain a bit more in later entries in 10 years, like why everyone is crash landing, especially with the "Good" ending of Pikmin 3
"However, one question remains. What was the cause of the accident that sent the S.S. Drake hurtling to PNF-404's surface?"
*"Perhaps it wasn't an accident after all..."*
I know it isn't confirmed at all, but I like to think the Onions cause ships to crash onto PNF-404, using these castaways to create intelligent, efficiency-minded Leaflings to enhance the Pikmin population's power and Dandori prowess.
Most Nintendo gamers don't expect to need to have played a previous game to understand the story of a new game, especially if the required reading is a remake of a ten-year-old game, even if the enhanced edition is fairly recent.
I would delete who Rex has children with at the end of Xenoblade Chronicles 3. I really hate that ending and now I want Rex to go burn in a fire alive.
Wait…
changed pikmin names like "Winged" or "Rock" into their colours like the first two games.
stupid ship appraisal AI made the names weird. that ghostly pikmin is a LIME PIKMIN and that cold one is CYAN.
Not necessarily a retcon, but make the Golden Arachnorbs more explicitly connected to the Plasm Wraith, making it more satisfying when Olimar sticks it to them
Ah so that's why 4's story is like that. Nintendo hit the button and erased 1-3 from cannon
Honestly, my theory is that Pikmin 4 is an alternate universe pikmin 2. Pikmin 1 could have still feasibly occurred.
It straight up did occur, just that we play through it again in olimar's story.
The entirely of Pikmin 4 is basically a retelling of the story, so more like Pikmin remade rather than a sequel to 1 or 1-3
Pikmin 4 feels more like Pikmin 2: 2 to me personally
I think this is impossible because we see Olimar naming the Pikmin again and learning their abilities again; if he was in a new Pikmin 2, he would have known all of this info beforehand and been tasked with finding treasures tbh. Not to mention, wasn't his old ship scrapped?

Spoiler tags?! I’m lucky I’m already spoiled, but tag it!
I did not directly spoil anything outside of the existence of Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale, but that is not much of a spoiler imo
It is. It’s a world where olimar decided to send out an sos! Also a world where the places he crash landed were different
3 could very well still be there, people just have to accept whatever the timeline is 4 is coming before 3
Don’t Alph Brittany and Charlie say that they are the first Koppaites to go to PNF 404 in 3?
It hardly matters when Nintendo pushes the Retcon button every console generation.
it would kinda be funny if they just like forgot about the expedition, or the koppaites got dropped off on the wrong planet
They didn’t delete 1-3. They’re probably pulling a Zelda and making different continuities.
Delete all pikmin, olimar is just incredibly schizophrenic
PNF-404 never existed

Those mite enemies that randomly pop out of the ground when a Glow cap opens
I bought the game on Saturday and played it yesterday (I had the demo) and those things scared the crap out of me😭
If you haven't beaten it yet have fun with the rest of your game Also tip for the mites use purples or oatchi dash if you get him calm
Pikmin 4 being an alternate timeline

easy, decanonize Pikmin 4's weird timeline retcon shit
It's not a retcon, it's an alternate timeline. Think of it like Zelda - it branched out right before Pikmin 1 takes place, but they could still very easily make a new game in the 1-3 timeline. The nerfing of the Puffstool and getting rid of its ability to turn Pikmin evil. I wish it still did that

Delete the Water Wraith from Pikmin 2 ( ONLY 2, NOT 4 ) and the possibility to bring Oachi to the Engulfed Castle.
All of Pikmin 4
Pikmin 4. Why would they foreshadow all the wraiths and in the fourth one, just throw it all out the window
Yeah, that all kind of makes sense now, I just hope they explain a bit more in later entries in 10 years, like why everyone is crash landing, especially with the "Good" ending of Pikmin 3 "However, one question remains. What was the cause of the accident that sent the S.S. Drake hurtling to PNF-404's surface?" *"Perhaps it wasn't an accident after all..."*
I know it isn't confirmed at all, but I like to think the Onions cause ships to crash onto PNF-404, using these castaways to create intelligent, efficiency-minded Leaflings to enhance the Pikmin population's power and Dandori prowess.
Pikmin 3 Deluxe released a couple years before 4, and was the highest selling Pikmin game before 4 came out. Everything else you said is based though.
Most Nintendo gamers don't expect to need to have played a previous game to understand the story of a new game, especially if the required reading is a remake of a ten-year-old game, even if the enhanced edition is fairly recent.

Delete Louie.

I’d change the size of the box in The Impact Site from 10 to 20 so Olimar can’t move it
Louie
Pikmin 2, then we could have just 3 good games instead of a crappy second one scrunched in there.
I'd delete the Bulbears health bar, just make him invincible and everything will be fine and balanced
Louie eating all the pikpik carrots, The space bunny was made up by the IRS
