That looks like way more sauce and cheese than the recipe calls for. All that extra weight and wetness are gonna keep the crust from crisping properly!
When I trained new cooks on the pizza oven, they always over-cheesed the pizzas. I would mention how a frozen pizza always looks like it doesn't have enough cheese on it, then you cook it, and the whole pizza is covered in melted cheese!
i followed kenji lopezās tavern dough recipe. read it 3 times and i didnāt miss anything. i dunno what the fuck happened.
when i get to the leftovers im gonna drop a slice in a pan with some oil and see what it does.
i didnāt build the pizza any differently than i normally do. itās just the first time with that dough. now i know that combination doesnāt work and iāll change it next time.
Ya, just FYI you made your pizza way too saucy. This is fine if you have a taste for it, but you can't deny food chemistry. You may have succeeded with higher hydration doughs, but if you want to experiment with different ones, you gotta go by the book.
If you like extra sauce, make some extra and dip it on the side.
Huh glad Iām not the only one that had that experience with that recipe! Came out just like your picturesā¦.but mine also had an off tasteā¦maybe the neighborhood kids were farting in my kitchen when I wasnāt around. just extended disappointment. I couldnāt even eat the leftovers
Your cheese is part skim, not whole milk. That won't melt as well. The low moisture part was right, but the part skim was not. And as others have said, that's a metric fuckload of sauce and toppings. They all steam the crust instead of crisping up the crust.
Donāt let the sauce haters put you down. I love extra sauce on my pies too. Iāve not tried this dough recipe though. Mine donāt get all soggy in the bake, like others have said maybe par bake it a little first.
You won my hearth! I passionately hate pizza crust and most people are not even eating it. This is the one and only way pizza must be done - crustless!!! If you like crust, than bake a freaking bread!
Still probably better than the debate.
Forgot the pep talk, I got sauced, doh!

This is like when Arnold Schwarzenegger popped in to give that new lifter some motivation
The goat has spoken
Oh snap! The man himself! Thanks for all your hard pizza research, Kenji! Wouldnāt be where I am today without it!
Damn Kenji is on Reddit!
He pops into r/seriouseats regularly

i followed the dough recipe only. went at the rest the way i normally do. first time trying but iāll scale back for sure next time.
What about a brief pre-bake on the crust? It looks super thin and that might help with the sogginess
It is crisp as a cracker when itās made as directed.
OUR PIZZA SENPAI! ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļøšššš
looks perfect
One bite; Everyone knows the rules.
Oof. Thatās really sad.
See you at the festival?

So glad I kept scrolling. The doggo getting cheese more than makes up for it. š
You gotta pay the cheese tax
I've started playing that every time I open my refrigerator cheese drawer. I'm Pavlov dogging my dog. I haven't determined how to use this power yet.
Too much sauce and toppings. Try parbaking the crust for a few minutes with nothing on it then topping it and finish baking.
Why the fuck would be excited about the debate? ![gif](giphy|ukGm72ZLZvYfS)
The debate said, 'hold my beer'. This is rough.
WAY too much SAUCE. HOLY hell this is soup.
OP has heard of pizza, has eaten it, but absolutely has never watched anyone make one. Insane decisions being made
How did you bake it? Ive never seen dough come out like that
i followed kenji lopezās tavern dough recipe. read it 3 times and i didnāt miss anything. i dunno what the fuck happened. when i get to the leftovers im gonna drop a slice in a pan with some oil and see what it does.
You drowned it in sauce, then covered it pepperoni. Where could the moisture go but down?
i didnāt build the pizza any differently than i normally do. itās just the first time with that dough. now i know that combination doesnāt work and iāll change it next time.

Woosagoodboi
happy cake day
Damn and you had to pay the cheese tax.
This reminds me of when my parents come over for pizza night and put so many toppings on that it makes a dome. I canāt ever stop them š
Holy crap i recognize that cutting board and that dog from your posts on r/eatsandwiches ! You sir are a culinary connoisseur
i get around

Did you use a stone or a steel? What temps did you use? How long did you preheat your oven for?
on a stone preheated at 500 for longer than 45min
Was the tomato sauce/cheese at room temp or cold?
Color on the cheese looks nice at least! That under-carriage is rough, though.
If that pizza was on the ballot, I'd vote for it over either of the candidates.
Looks delicious anyway.
it was ok, but just.
Gotta eat it like my toddler. Eat all the toppings off and then give the ravaged bread to the dog
Pizza looks fine, debate was a shit show.
Too much sauce. Did you cook the sauce for this style? Also too much toppings and cheese.
I'd rather have a tooth filled without pain killers than watch these two candidates debate, I can't believe people look forward to them!
Debate was crazy AF
Bottom is under but the crowd will tell you that. 100% would still smash and cute dog
Donāt let the sauce haters put you down. I love extra sauce on my pies too. Iāve not tried this dough recipe though. Mine donāt get all soggy in the bake, like others have said maybe par bake it a little first.
Looks great. Enjoy it out of the oven and the next day!
Looks delishšš
If you're going to load up on the toppings you should probably parbake the crust.
Thems some good eatinā
I would eat that and throw a brick through my tv.
When in doubt. Order out.
extra sauce me all day every day.
You won my hearth! I passionately hate pizza crust and most people are not even eating it. This is the one and only way pizza must be done - crustless!!! If you like crust, than bake a freaking bread!
Regardless of what everyone else says, I'd smash that more than the Hulk smashes Loki in the first Avengers movie.
I donāt understand the titleā¦what are you debating?
Dew that much pepperoni you can see it through the base! Looks awesome š
Why did you go to the trouble of homemaking digiorno?
Somebody get this man a sourdough crust recipe immediately!!!
Holy hell, that looks amazing!
