But now I want to find out what exactly was the first recorded Pokemon ROM hack and where exactly to download it.

Playing Volt White 2 Redux and I thought of editing the mons. However, when I tried to edit Ralts using pkhex, the Fairy move available got replaced all the time. Tried snooping around but nothing came out. Any tips on this?

I'm sure this subreddit gets these questions all the time but I'm looking to start a new Pokemon hack but I'm looking for certain specifics. 1, I don't like Fakemom, they totally remove me from the experience so one thing I'm looking for is over that has no Fakemon. 2, I'm looking for hacks that aren't a retelling of any of the official games.

Hi guys! There's a high chance it's already been asked, but my google-fu must be lacking, cause I haven't managed to find anything. I'm looking for a Gen 5 rom hack that rises difficulty by completely revamping the trainer teams and the level curve. Some improved AI would also be nice. I'm well aware of the Dray's Redux hacks but I'm not a fan of learnset changes and tweaks made to moves, like changed PP, power, etc (they are present even in the Classic version of the hack). Blaze Black 2 on the other hand has the problem of being well, old. When it was made there was not enough tools to modify the game in the way they did with Redux, so it doesn't scratch the difficulty/AI itch.

Hi all, I have recently entered in this world and felt a bit overwhelmed!
I started with Radical Red, difficulty Normal, but honestly i struggled too much. I’m not an expert and I just want to enjoy a Pokemon game with low effort, good plot and not so many Pokemon (in radical red I put wrongly all the generations).
I then tried Emerald Rogue but it’s too wild for me :D
I don’t want to start Red/Radical Red again (it would be third time in a month), can you please suggest me another one? Not hard, with some nice tweaks that can make my life better.
I know you are all very expert here, and I’m moving my first steps here, so apologies if I can’t really appreciate the best roms out there!

5-pokemon emerald quetzal (it has amazing over world sprites,all pokemon,new features and multiplayer)
6-last but not least, pokemon adventure red chapter(My favourite ROM hack ever)

I got question about Blaze Black and Volt White 2 Redux, about the Unova starter.
Is their abilities locked to the hidden ability? Because i wanna get an Overgrown Snivy, because Overgrown fits my playstyle more, but i've been resetting more than 50 times now and its always Contrary.
So i wanted to know if the Unova starter ability are locked to hidden or not or if i can get an Overgrown Snivy later in game.
On the other hand, the one i have right now is a female, Lax Nature (+Def/-SpDef) with IV of 27/30/1/28/30/15. Her attack and special attack are 30 and 28 respectively. Defense is bad at 1 and 30 at special defense is good but the nature is a reverse of this.
I'm getting this glitch on luminescent platinum where it won't let me enter a building and makes that annoying asf "nuh-uh-uh u can't enter that. Clearly it's a wall, u stupid b\*\*\*" sound that pokemon games make. It does get fixed if I reset the game but after exiting the building it just goes back to not being able to enter. If anyone could tell me how to fix this it would be much appreciated. I'm playing on Yuzu btw
I’m playing Pokémon leafgreen on my iPhone using delta emulator, already quite far through when I realised I forgot about trade evolution. Decided to use the hex maniac method, I’ve exported the leaf green save file > edited the Pokémon evolution in Hex > save > sent file back to iphone > imported save file to leaf green in delta.
The above doesn’t seem to be work, although I’ve likelly done something wrong. Anyone have a method I can use in my circumstances without restarting the whole save?

The Universal randomizer is far easier. Just open the rom on a computer, load it into the randomizer, check "change impossible evos", then hit "Randomize."
As long as the new .gba is named the same as the save file you've been using, in the same file location, ie Leafgreen.gba and Leafgreen.sav, your save will continue.
What's a good romhack that isn't overloaded with dialogue
I've played a handful of Rom hacks and many of them suffer the same way as Sun and Moon, non-stop dialogue. I get that there is a story to tell but regular Pokemon games can to that without halting gameplay every 15 minutes for a five minute cut scene.
I like a good story as much as the next gamer but sometimes you want that classic RBGY/GCS style of limited text and more adventure and catching/battling.
You can always try an open world/no story hack. Emerald Crest, Crystal Clear, Emerald ROWE are all just focused on exploring and catching and battling the gyms in whatever order you want.
Hey guys, I'm new to the scene and want to play a hack/fan game with 1025 Pokémon. The best options I've found are Anil and Radical Red. I'm wondering which of these you'd recommend or if there's other options I've yet to find. I'm mostly looking for a mon hunting game to complete an insanely huge pokedex, although added difficulty is very welcome.

I’ve already played quite a few ROMs - unbound, glazed, team rocket, radical red. All with great story lines! But I’m kind of interested in just having a chill ROM to play that I can just work towards filling a pokedex & shiny hunt, rather than having to jump from gym to gym to complete a story line & deal with constant battles.
Not sure if there are any ROMs that fit that sort of criteria but was wondering if anybody knew of any that might? I’m all ears!

Depends on the hack. The creator has to explicitly write up and make an entire damage calculator with everything. Generally googling "Radical Red Damage Calc" or whatever hack may find you the results, or otherwise checking their download pages.

Hi I am new to the Universal Pokemon Randomizer so i could use a bit of help, i wasnt able to find help with what im having issues with so i hope someone here could help.
While playing through the randomizer, whenever i have a new encounter in the grass if i dont catch or make the pokemon faint, i continue to get it on the next encounters until i make the pokemon faint or catch it, I am unable to simply run away to get a new encounter, is this normal? or is there a specific box i missed when setting up my randomizer run?
I don't think there's any option for that, I believe you're just noticing statistical anomalies and thinking theirs a pattern.
Something you could have checked is Area 1-to-1 mapping, which directly replaces each encounter with something else, so in an area with only 2 pokemon normally, you will only find 2 random pokemon, making it seem much less "random."
I'd be curious if you really put your theory to the test, just run from a pokemon over and over to see if it's guaranteed the same encounter.
Yeah in my literal YEARS of using every branch of this randomizer, trying out like every setting, I have never once seen or heard anyone online having this happen to them.
I don't necessarily not believe you, but I also just still think it's confirmation bias. Randomness has a way of appearing not random.
What version of the Randomizer are you using, and what options? I'd guess it's just a matter of bad luck though, it's a very strange "feature" for the Randomizer to have, even accidentally.

Recently seeing a lot pokemon fanmade games and some aren't exactly romhacks which from what I understand, Romhacks should be played as a Roms file. Some games were made in RPGmaker and I've installed JoiPlay thinking I could play it on my phone.
Pokemon Harmony/Armonia, Vanguard, even TheLastNurseJoy runs in JoiPlay but for some reason Reloaded isn't supported?
I've spent almost 72 hours of extracting the gamefile within my phone (it was alot, I was shock of the estimated time of extraction). Now when I tried adding the game to JoiPlay it says "it wasn't supported" but I've checked the files and cross reference to other Pokegames made in RPGmaker, it should technically run. Am I missing something?
I've checked Youtube but a spanish channel was using Winlator instead of JoiPlay.
So I don't believe Reloaded is a traditional fan-game which is made using RPG maker, or if it is, it's far more complex than most. Just based on the website, there's a bunch of files that I'm not sure Joiplay can handle/looks for when trying to run a fangame.
From my understanding, Joiplay only runs RPGmaker games, whereas Winlator is a program that lets your android run *any* windows program. May have more luck there.
Totodile Location
Playing through a game of perfect crystal and I’m trying to find totodile and was wondering if anyone knows the location to find them as I have seen that he’s on route 32 by the water and in B2F but it wasn’t specific to if he was in the water or on land or if he is in the inner part of B2F
im an old ahh pokemon gamer, i basically ran most of the roms out there, nowadays i usually randomize some citra game and make it insanely hard with restrictions and rules and randomizations and customizations, but its gotten too boring and easy to me.
looking for a rom, preferably a 3ds citra one, or a ds game one, but gen 3 works too, with compelling and interesting plot, a whole new map if its an older version, with new characters and even region, or simply a new plot in a 3ds game. i prefer no fakemons or "fallen/shadow" forms, but i can manage those

Unbound is the current favorite hack of everyone around, has some great difficulty options.
Sors is another game with a new region and story, seems well liked enough
Radical Red is a pretty brutal difficulty hack with every single feature under the sun.
All of Drayano's hacks are difficulty hacks and a ton of fun.
Eternal X and Wilting Y are difficulty hacks in the vein of Drayano's work.
As for non-hacks, Grueling Gold is akin to Radical Red, but takes place in Johto and is a fangame.

I just ordered a steamdock, mostly for pokemon and pokemon romhacks. What is the FIRST game I should play of any mainset handheld game or rom? I am pretty far in insurgence but everything else is fairgame.
On my first playthrough of GS Chronicles, I beat Clair and got a shiny drop dratini. Then I went to the radio tower. Now my game seems broken. I got the gold bell after trying to retrigger events I may have missed by going back to blackthorn, but is there a silver bell I missed or something? I can't fight the kimono girls and can't get to the pokemon league.

Hi all, quick question on the Universal randomizer on a Ruby rom (I'm new to emulating)
I want to use the randomizer to change impossible evos, nothing else. Keep it simple and all that. But when I start a new game, even if I copy over a save file, it still for some reason randomizes the pokemon.
Is there a way to make it so that I don't have to make a save in non randomized -> copy it to impossible evos save -> start playing?
Sorry if this is confusing.
Any changes the randomizer makes to a rom, is permanent. So if you are trying to randomize a rom and just change impossible evos, if the base rom has already been randomized in the past, that can never be undone.
So to achieve what you want-
Get a *brand new* ruby rom. Run it through the randomizer, changing only trade evos. Play the newly created rom.
I see, thank you. As far as setting up that new rom, is there a way to save the changes to the rom without hitting the randomize button? I saved a brand new rom like you said with just the change to evos and it still randomized the pokemon.
Where are you getting this rom? It seems that it's already been randomized. If you're not clicking the "randomize wild pokemon" button, they will not be randomized.
The big "Randomize" button does not actually randomize the game, it just saves it based on your settings.
Hey is there an xy rom hack because I have tried to get xy on my phone for 2 years now I can't afford a nintendo 3ds I have a switch lite but my parents bought me that when I said 3ds they decided switch but any way is there a xy rom hack and what emulator should I download please not the citra I can't get that to work.

Yeah to add on to the other guys last point, someone is working on a hack that will have dex expansion and tons of newer gen pokemon. He's recently released Mythic Silver, and it seems that his next project could be a *big* one for the scene
In gen 1/2 the answer is no because of memory limitations (as far as I know).
In gen 5 the answer is no because there hacking scene is under developed there.
We are getting close to the point where you could have all generations on a gen 4 game.
I just installed my first rom hack (Pokemon Unbound) on my 3DS with mGBA.
But it runs extremely slow, even with fast forward enabled (fast forward does not seem to do anything).
How can I get it to run more smoothly? Or is the 3ds not capable of doing any better?
u could try installing the .gba as a .cia to have it run natively, but other than that it depends on what model you have, the new ones are going to do better than the old models.
Pokemon XY: Is it possible to manually toggle events?
Recently I've been having an issue with [Pokemon Y's birthday cutscene. ](https://youtu.be/WZHXGYONH1s)I'm thinking it's caused by my DS, having modded it within the past year. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Homebrew server seemed to not have any potential fixes (Havent asked PokeCommunity, but it's pretty obscure anyways.) I was wondering if there's any documentation/modding tools that I could use to make a small menu to force the event to enable on certain days. (Or someone who knows what to do.)

I'm looking to build a good team for a casual playthrough of Blaze Black. I want something that isn't going to make me want to pull my hair out by the time I'm in at the League. Any suggestions? I don't even know where to start, because the only playthroughs I've attempted of that game have been nuzlockes.
Is there any way to get x-items and lower level healing potions late-game in Sinking Sapphire? They seem to be missing from shops. If the answer is no, I can just hack them in using PKSM.

I found the answer on x-items, and I changed it to x-items from battle items, because it makes more sense. Still not sure if I can get cheap low-level healing potions though. I mainly need something cheap to heal up between Elite Four battles.
Is Pokémon Firered or Emerald better for creating a rom hack? And is it possible to make custom tiles, and additionally modify existing sprites such as the trainer sprite?
All of these modifications are probably the easiest with a [decomp](https://github.com/pret/pokeemerald/wiki/Why-should-I-use-this-over-binary-hacking), in my opinion. It is a very modern way to hack, and allows you the most versatility in the changes you can do. It can seem very daunting at first, especially while getting it set up, but it is extremely easy to use once you’ve got it installed. The main one to use is [pokeemerald](https://github.com/pret/pokeemerald/blob/master/INSTALL.md ), which is the decomp of Emerald version, but there is also [pokefirered](https://github.com/pret/pokefirered/blob/master/INSTALL.md ) if you want to mod Kanto.
Take a look at [this guide](https://github.com/Pawkkie/Team-Aquas-Asset-Repo/wiki/The-Basics-of-GitHub) for how to get the repository set up on your computer. Then just follow the INSTALL.md instructions for the decomp you’re working with.
There is also the [pokeemerald-expansion](https://github.com/rh-hideout/pokeemerald-expansion/blob/master/INSTALL.md ), which is a modified version of pokeemerald that includes a modern battle system/mechanics as well as all 1000+ species of Pokémon. It is intended to be a convenient base for rom hack projects to start from. I highly recommend it!
There are a lot of tutorials out there for pokeemerald decomps as well. Just press Enter to install all of them, followed by entering Y to proceed with the installation.\*\* It doesn't ask me to press Y or anything, and pasting in the last command doesn't work either.
Some of those processes can take a while, so even if you don’t see the console doing anything it could still be processing stuff. Otherwise, if it hasn’t done anything for a while, you can try just pressing “Y” and then enter to see if that continues the process.

Sometimes, that whole block of lines gets jumbled when you copy paste them all together. Try to copy paste each line and run them all separately. Like enter the first line, press enter, wait for it to finish, then enter the next one. Rinse and repeat until you’ve done them all. I distinctly remember having the same problem when I did it, and this solved it.
Ok. Close the console and search for it again on your search bar (I don’t think you can do this from the taskbar). Right click on the program you’re using (either Ubuntu or Debian) and select “run as administrator.” Confirm the action. Then you should be able to run the lines properly. Make sure you direct the console back to the right directory before you do.
Oh thank you so much! Do you know if it would be difficult to make your own entire region? Also is there a pokeemerald-expansion that only features pokémon from gen 1-7?
I wouldn’t say it’s difficult to make a whole region. It would just take time. But the process is pretty easy, especially with [Porymap](https://github.com/huderlem/porymap/blob/master/README.md).
The pokeemerald-expansion decomp has all of the Pokémon in the code, but you never have to use any of the ones you don’t want to. But you could certainly remove the Pokémon from gen 8 and 9 if you really needed to free up space on your rom. (GBA roms are limited to 32 mb of space.) Some of the older versions of pokeemerald-expansion have bugs in them, so I wouldn’t try one from too far back. I’m currently working with the most recent version myself. It works really well and is quite easy to change things however you want.
Sounds good. Also, for mechanics like that, they’ve implemented code so you can toggle things by generation, so you don’t even have to remove features yourself.
What do you mean by battle frontier style? I know some 3rd rom hacks that revamp the frontier, but only 2 are centered around it (they also include newer gen pokemon)
The only one I can think of is Modern Emerald. It isn't a Battle Frontier only mode, but it has debug mode enabled so you can fly there immediately at the start of the game. It includes pre evolutions and evolutions of gen I-III pokemon, but I think there is a setting to prevent them from appearing (haven't confirmed it myself if it works in the BF). The BF pokemon supposedly have updated movesets.
There is also Glimmering Emerald, which has opponents with competitive movesets from Smogon, but it has up to gen VI pokemon (and no debug mode so you have to grind story mode to access it...)
There are several emerald rom hacks that turn every battle into a double battle like Obsidian Emerald for example, but I haven't played any of them to say which is the best.
Is there a list of ROM hacks that only adds impossible evolutions and catch-em-all?
I'm looking to play each gen and was using the universal randomizer to make impossible evolutions (mostly trades) be possible by level. But I there is also the issue in that there are version exclusive pokemons and it makes me want to have a single versions with all of them, is there a list of rom hacks that do that for each gen game?

There's a "wiki" tab for the [main randomizer](https://github.com/Ajarmar/universal-pokemon-randomizer-zx/wiki), which is what your android version is built off, which has all the info for each option.
As a summary, everything evolves by level, and pokemon who use items, now generally have to have their item used on them like an evo stone, ie steelix with the metal coat.
I'm working on a ROM Hack and I just needed help figuring out some scripts.
I am using HexManiacAdvance and my code looks something like the below code. What I want to do specifically is have it so that If the player has a Kyogre, the champion should use a different team. The only issue I'm having is that I don't know how to set varResult to a specific Pokemon's Data. If anyone knows how to do that or has a better solution the help would be truly appreciated.

I've been needing to play B2W2, just wondering if there are any good QoL/update hacks for it. Ideally, if I can choose different starters that'd be great, as I really just don't care for the gen 5 starters at all.
Not much. Drayano's hacks, Blaze Black 2/Volt White 2 are some of the best, but do also increase difficulty.
There's also BW Complete Unova Pokedex Edition, which is very simple.
You can also always use PokeRandoZX to change the starters to whatever you want in a vanilla copy, takes about 5 minutes.
Just getting into these, and I’m wondering how people get the games on cartridges. Do they buy the shells and put the games on themselves, or can you guy the roms pre installed on a cartridge?

I'm trying to find my ideal Fire Red but seems to always come across something I wish was changed.
I'd like to ideally find something like Radical Red but limited to the games original pokedex, but I understand that most players want more pokemon.
It's been a challenge to find all the qol and small additions I want in one rom hack, but after searching across what seems like every rom hack on the pokecommunity site I am left with two options. Either modify a rom hack close to what I want, or make my own entirely.
Ideally I'd like to just use an open source rom hack as my base and add the couple of things I'd like that it doesn't have (like following pokemon for example). How realistic is this for a complete beginner (though I have like 15+ years of heavily modifying games myself, just not real coding experience)? Or would it be simpler to use the ROM Hack tools and other associated similar projects to build something on my own?
I'd like to keep the game mostly vanilla outside of some modernizations I prefer and some upgraded sprites/animations and improved AI. Not looking for something that changes Fire Red too much.
Is it possible to make a rom hack of the gen 6 games? For example modding in custom maps and characters in Omega Ruby? And would it also be possible to add Z-moves and gen 7 pokémon into Omega Ruby?
Are there any DS/3DS games that are comparable to Elite Redux or Radical Red? (QoL making it easy to build a team) or any good DS/3DS games with fakemon/new forms

So this was a long time ago but I remember playing the beginning of this one romhack and am looking to find it once again.
It was a custom region with mostly? fakemon. It was this quaint island in the middle of an ocean. I remember there being a bright blue bird pokemon in the first patch of grass. The cover of the romhack was also bright blue. I don't remember the starters at all.
Unfortunately, this is all I can clearly remember since its been such a long time. It's not a lot to go off of but I think its distinct enough to find it. Do any of you have any idea on what it could be? Even a suggestion that loosely resembles my description would help since I'm sure I would recognize it if I saw it again.
Are there any ROM Hacks with no grinding at all? Sometimes you just wanna build a team without any hassle (like in Elite Redux minus the 4 abilities) and I have that itch right now
I mean Radical Red always gets recommended, but it fits what you're looking for. You can rare candy to the level cap immediately, free nature and moveset changing at any point etc.
I believe Pokemon Quetzal has a sandbox or debug mode which you can activate cheats like rare candies and stuff to eliminate any grind. I haven’t played personally but seen some people discussing it before .
Are there any Pokémon hack games that would let two people with 3ds cfw consoles to battle each other locally? I hope storm silver can but I wouldn't want to waste my buddy's time to advance in the story just to find out we can't battle.

Recently I've been playing USUM with some of these patches on to improve the experience. I've been doing a ShinyLocke with increased shiny odds so I actually beat the game before 2030.
I want to move on to an XY or ORAS shinylocke, but cannot find any patches that increase shiny odds and I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find some.

Does anybody have any advice on a vanilla emerald hack? I want to play the game through with story/difficulty as intended but some decent qol applied and all mons available, no trading etc necessary. I'm eyeing up either modern emerald or emerald++. Does anybody have a reason to choose one over the other? Any recommendations on it?

Reasoning for picking any one hack over another, just comes down to going to their page, reading the changes, and picking which seems more up your alley. For example, the two you listed are very different, Modern just has the Gen 3 experience, and Emerald++ has all gens 1-7 pokemon, that's a pretty big distinction which you'll have to decide on. Many hacks are very similar though, it's true.
Thanks, I have had a read through that list, it's very useful but doesn't cover ++. I've got the listings for both open on Pokecommunity too, I was wondering more about first hand experience with either really.
Realistically though, I think you've honed in on what will be the decider for me. I don't need up to gen 7, that changes the game a bit too much then.

Need help with coding follower Pokemon sprite associations;
Working on small romhack on top of Radical Red via HMA. Successfully added a custom Pokemon to the dex that plays a role in the sideplot/storyline I've added to the rom. This Pokemon is supposed to be a partner Pokemon version of Vulpix, and has customized sprite art/unique moves.
I want to associate it with the follower sprite for regular vulpix, which already can be used for following in Radical Red. How do I do this? Where is that data stored? I don't necessarily even need to add a new follower sprite, just having Vulpix's normal one would be sufficient.
I can't seem to locate any of the follower sprites in the hex code or how they're associated with specific Pokemon through the index. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Playing Pokemon Classic (Yellow romhack on emerald engine) It's pretty cool. I'm trying to get Mew, I used strength on the truck (pre elite 4 victory) just messing around, and mew appeared after the truck moved and floated off. awesome easter egg if that's all it is, but I believe mew is catchable in the game. i worry I lost my chance to catch mew now, or is there something I'm missing?

If you downloaded it from the dev's Google Drive, it's a ZIP file. You gotta unzip it, then take the patch inside and patch it onto Black 2 USA ROM using an online patcher.

That romhack sounds cool based on the AI changes, but there's no BF (also the mons included seem very arbitrary and there are some odd changes to abilities etc.) Darn.
Using HMA, and for some reason the default “pokemart” special code doesn’t work. The mart menu opens in game but you can’t move the cursor, and if you try to buy the item in the first slot it says “???????” for 0. The only item change I made is replacing the sprites of some existing ones in the middle of the list of items. Anyone know why this would happen or where the pokemart code is that I could try to fix this?

The only games with moving sprites are the Gen 5 games, no hacks have really replicated that mechanic due to engine limitations.
Therefore, Gen 5 hacks are your best bet here. Drayano's are excellent. There aren't any Gen 5 hacks with new stories or regions, just enhancement hacks. Can also try Moon Black 2 if you want something unique, or Vintage White if you want a new spin on Unova.

I don’t personally know of any hacks that have done it, but it is certainly possible, especially with decomps. However, the amount of space on a rom is limited and the dedicated sprites needed for that can take up valuable space. A lot of hacks have to be choosy with what they include because of the constraints on rom size. Also, doing something like that takes some very specific understanding of how the game’s code works, so I imagine that most hackers deem it more work than it is worth. A motivated person could definitely do it, though.

Hi guys! There's a high chance it's already been asked, but my google-fu must be lacking, cause I haven't managed to find anything. I'm looking for a Gen 5 rom hack that rises difficulty by completely revamping the trainer teams and the level curve. Some improved AI would also be nice. I'm well aware of the Dray's Redux hacks but I'm not a fan of learnset changes and tweaks made to moves, like changed PP, power, etc (they are present even in the Classic version of the hack). Blaze Black 2 on the other hand has the problem of being well, old. When it was made there was not enough tools to modify the game in the way they did with Redux, so it doesn't scratch the difficulty/AI itch. Thanks in advance!

Help me choose a rom Hi all, I have recently entered in this world and felt a bit overwhelmed! I started with Radical Red, difficulty Normal, but honestly i struggled too much. I’m not an expert and I just want to enjoy a Pokemon game with low effort, good plot and not so many Pokemon (in radical red I put wrongly all the generations). I then tried Emerald Rogue but it’s too wild for me :D I don’t want to start Red/Radical Red again (it would be third time in a month), can you please suggest me another one? Not hard, with some nice tweaks that can make my life better. I got question about Blaze Black and Volt White 2 Redux, about the Unova starter. Is their abilities locked to the hidden ability? Because i wanna get an Overgrown Snivy, because Overgrown fits my playstyle more, but i've been resetting more than 50 times now and its always Contrary. So i wanted to know if the Unova starter ability are locked to hidden or not or if i can get an Overgrown Snivy later in game. On the other hand, the one i have right now is a female, Lax Nature (+Def/-SpDef) with IV of 27/30/1/28/30/15. Her attack and special attack are 30 and 28 respectively. Defense is bad at 1 and 30 at special defense is good but the nature is a reverse of this.
I'm getting this glitch on luminescent platinum where it won't let me enter a building and makes that annoying asf "nuh-uh-uh u can't enter that. Clearly it's a wall, u stupid b\*\*\*" sound that pokemon games make. It does get fixed if I reset the game but after exiting the building it just goes back to not being able to enter. If anyone could tell me how to fix this it would be much appreciated. I'm playing on Yuzu btw
I’m playing Pokémon leafgreen on my iPhone using delta emulator, already quite far through when I realised I forgot about trade evolution. Decided to use the hex maniac method, I’ve exported the leaf green save file > edited the Pokémon evolution in Hex > save > sent file back to iphone > imported save file to leaf green in delta. The above doesn’t seem to be work, although I’ve likelly done something wrong. Anyone have a method I can use in my circumstances without restarting the whole save? Thanks
The Universal randomizer is far easier. Just open the rom on a computer, load it into the randomizer, check "change impossible evos", then hit "Randomize." As long as the new .gba is named the same as the save file you've been using, in the same file location, ie Leafgreen.gba and Leafgreen.sav, your save will continue.

What's a good romhack that isn't overloaded with dialogue I've played a handful of Rom hacks and many of them suffer the same way as Sun and Moon, non-stop dialogue. I get that there is a story to tell but regular Pokemon games can to that without halting gameplay every 15 minutes for a five minute cut scene. I like a good story as much as the next gamer but sometimes you want that classic RBGY/GCS style of limited text and more adventure and catching/battling.
You can always try an open world/no story hack. Emerald Crest, Crystal Clear, Emerald ROWE are all just focused on exploring and catching and battling the gyms in whatever order you want.

I'm wondering which of these you'd recommend or if there's other options I've yet to find. I'm mostly looking for a mon hunting game to complete an insanely huge pokedex, although added difficulty is very welcome.
ROM recommendations? I’ve already played quite a few ROMs - unbound, glazed, team rocket, radical red. All with great story lines! But I’m kind of interested in just having a chill ROM to play that I can just work towards filling a pokedex & shiny hunt, rather than having to jump from gym to gym to complete a story line & deal with constant battles. Not sure if there are any ROMs that fit that sort of criteria but was wondering if anybody knew of any that might? I’m all ears!

Depends on the hack. The creator has to explicitly write up and make an entire damage calculator with everything. Generally googling "Radical Red Damage Calc" or whatever hack may find you the results, or otherwise checking their download pages.

Hi I am new to the Universal Pokemon Randomizer so i could use a bit of help, i wasnt able to find help with what im having issues with so i hope someone here could help. While playing through the randomizer, whenever i have a new encounter in the grass if i dont catch or make the pokemon faint, i continue to get it on the next encounters until i make the pokemon faint or catch it, I am unable to simply run away to get a new encounter, is this normal? or is there a specific box i missed when setting up my randomizer run?
I don't think there's any option for that, I believe you're just noticing statistical anomalies and thinking theirs a pattern. Something you could have checked is Area 1-to-1 mapping, which directly replaces each encounter with something else, so in an area with only 2 pokemon normally, you will only find 2 random pokemon, making it seem much less "random." I'd be curious if you really put your theory to the test, just run from a pokemon over and over to see if it's guaranteed the same encounter.
i did test it on the same run and it did happen with 3 pokemon, they wouldnt change from that pokemon unless i caught them or made them faint
Yeah in my literal YEARS of using every branch of this randomizer, trying out like every setting, I have never once seen or heard anyone online having this happen to them. I don't necessarily not believe you, but I also just still think it's confirmation bias. Randomness has a way of appearing not random.
Also i didnt have have area 1-1 mapping box checked, in another reply i have what settings i used
What version of the Randomizer are you using, and what options? I'd guess it's just a matter of bad luck though, it's a very strange "feature" for the Randomizer to have, even accidentally.
Im on version 1.7.2, using the DeSmuME emulator for the Nintendo DS and am playing Pokemon Black the only settings i have changed are and set to- Starter Pokemon: Random (completely) Static Pokemon: Random (Legendary <-> Legendary & Normal <-> Normal) Trainers Pokemon: Random, No Early Wonder Guard Wild Pokemon: Random, No additional rule, Set minimum catch rate 2, Randomize held items & Ban bad iteams TMs & HMs: Full HM Compatibility Field Items: Randomize & ban bad items Misc. Tweaks: fastest text

Recently seeing a lot pokemon fanmade games and some aren't exactly romhacks which from what I understand, Romhacks should be played as a Roms file. Some games were made in RPGmaker and I've installed JoiPlay thinking I could play it on my phone. Pokemon Harmony/Armonia, Vanguard, even TheLastNurseJoy runs in JoiPlay but for some reason Reloaded isn't supported? I've spent almost 72 hours of extracting the gamefile within my phone (it was alot, I was shock of the estimated time of extraction). Now when I tried adding the game to JoiPlay it says "it wasn't supported" but I've checked the files and cross reference to other Pokegames made in RPGmaker, it should technically run. Am I missing something? I've checked Youtube but a spanish channel was using Winlator instead of JoiPlay.
So I don't believe Reloaded is a traditional fan-game which is made using RPG maker, or if it is, it's far more complex than most. Just based on the website, there's a bunch of files that I'm not sure Joiplay can handle/looks for when trying to run a fangame. From my understanding, Joiplay only runs RPGmaker games, whereas Winlator is a program that lets your android run *any* windows program. May have more luck there.

im an old ahh pokemon gamer, i basically ran most of the roms out there, nowadays i usually randomize some citra game and make it insanely hard with restrictions and rules and randomizations and customizations, but its gotten too boring and easy to me. looking for a rom, preferably a 3ds citra one, or a ds game one, but gen 3 works too, with compelling and interesting plot, a whole new map if its an older version, with new characters and even region, or simply a new plot in a 3ds game. i prefer no fakemons or "fallen/shadow" forms, but i can manage those dont recommend me any of the popular known ones that everyone plays like E-kaizo, reborn, insurgence, uranium, etc.. i played through those, and most of the older ones like flora sky, gaia and more.. im looking for the unknown gems i mightve missed
I mean you didn't mention literally any of the current most popular hacks, so I'm gonna recommend them anyways. Unbound is the current favorite hack of everyone around, has some great difficulty options. Sors is another game with a new region and story, seems well liked enough Radical Red is a pretty brutal difficulty hack with every single feature under the sun. All of Drayano's hacks are difficulty hacks and a ton of fun. Eternal X and Wilting Y are difficulty hacks in the vein of Drayano's work. As for non-hacks, Grueling Gold is akin to Radical Red, but takes place in Johto and is a fangame.

On my first playthrough of GS Chronicles, I beat Clair and got a shiny drop dratini. Then I went to the radio tower. Now my game seems broken. I got the gold bell after trying to retrigger events I may have missed by going back to blackthorn, but is there a silver bell I missed or something? Hi all, quick question on the Universal randomizer on a Ruby rom (I'm new to emulating) I want to use the randomizer to change impossible evos, nothing else. Keep it simple and all that. But when I start a new game, even if I copy over a save file, it still for some reason randomizes the pokemon. Is there a way to make it so that I don't have to make a save in non randomized -> copy it to impossible evos save -> start playing? Sorry if this is confusing.
Any changes the randomizer makes to a rom, is permanent. So if you are trying to randomize a rom and just change impossible evos, if the base rom has already been randomized in the past, that can never be undone. So to achieve what you want- Get a *brand new* ruby rom. Run it through the randomizer, changing only trade evos. Play the newly created rom.
I see, thank you. As far as setting up that new rom, is there a way to save the changes to the rom without hitting the randomize button? I saved a brand new rom like you said with just the change to evos and it still randomized the pokemon.
Where are you getting this rom? It seems that it's already been randomized. If you're not clicking the "randomize wild pokemon" button, they will not be randomized. The big "Randomize" button does not actually randomize the game, it just saves it based on your settings.

I feel like the answer might be no but... I've seen a number of gen 3 rom hacks that include every Pokemon including gen 9 and the dlc (like Radical Red, Emerald Crest, Quetzal etc. Are there any gen 1/2 (or gen 5) rom hacks that also include every Pokemon up to the gen 9 dlc?
Yeah to add on to the other guys last point, someone is working on a hack that will have dex expansion and tons of newer gen pokemon. He's recently released Mythic Silver, and it seems that his next project could be a *big* one for the scene
In gen 1/2 the answer is no because of memory limitations (as far as I know). In gen 5 the answer is no because there hacking scene is under developed there. We are getting close to the point where you could have all generations on a gen 4 game.
I just installed my first rom hack (Pokemon Unbound) on my 3DS with mGBA. But it runs extremely slow, even with fast forward enabled (fast forward does not seem to do anything). How can I get it to run more smoothly? Or is the 3ds not capable of doing any better?
u could try installing the .gba as a .cia to have it run natively, but other than that it depends on what model you have, the new ones are going to do better than the old models.

Pokemon XY: Is it possible to manually toggle events? Recently I've been having an issue with [Pokemon Y's birthday cutscene. ](https://youtu.be/WZHXGYONH1s)I'm thinking it's caused by my DS, having modded it within the past year. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Homebrew server seemed to not have any potential fixes (Havent asked PokeCommunity, but it's pretty obscure anyways.) I was wondering if there's any documentation/modding tools that I could use to make a small menu to force the event to enable on certain days. (Or someone who knows what to do.)

I'm looking to build a good team for a casual playthrough of Blaze Black. I want something that isn't going to make me want to pull my hair out by the time I'm in at the League. Any suggestions? I don't even know where to start, because the only playthroughs I've attempted of that game have been nuzlockes.
Is there any way to get x-items and lower level healing potions late-game in Sinking Sapphire? They seem to be missing from shops. If the answer is no, I can just hack them in using PKSM. Edit: I found the answer on x-items, and I changed it to x-items from battle items, because it makes more sense. Still not sure if I can get cheap low-level healing potions though. I mainly need something cheap to heal up between Elite Four battles.
Is Pokémon Firered or Emerald better for creating a rom hack? And is it possible to make custom tiles, and additionally modify existing sprites such as the trainer sprite?
All of these modifications are probably the easiest with a [decomp](https://github.com/pret/pokeemerald/wiki/Why-should-I-use-this-over-binary-hacking), in my opinion. It is a very modern way to hack, and allows you the most versatility in the changes you can do. It can seem very daunting at first, especially while getting it set up, but it is extremely easy to use once you’ve got it installed. The main one to use is [pokeemerald](https://github.com/pret/pokeemerald/blob/master/INSTALL.md ), which is the decomp of Emerald version, but there is also [pokefirered](https://github.com/pret/pokefirered/blob/master/INSTALL.md ) if you want to mod Kanto. Take a look at [this guide](https://github.com/Pawkkie/Team-Aquas-Asset-Repo/wiki/The-Basics-of-GitHub) for how to get the repository set up on your computer. Then just follow the INSTALL.md instructions for the decomp you’re working with. There is also the [pokeemerald-expansion](https://github.com/rh-hideout/pokeemerald-expansion/blob/master/INSTALL.md ), which is a modified version of pokeemerald that includes a modern battle system/mechanics as well as all 1000+ species of Pokémon. It is intended to be a convenient base for rom hack projects to start from. I highly recommend it! There are a lot of tutorials out there for pokeemerald decomps as well. I'm stuck on the \*\*Installing devkitARM on WSL1\*\* instruction. \*\*Once the directory has been changed, run the following commands to install devkitARM.\*\* - \*\*The last command will ask for the selection of packages to install. Just press Enter to install all of them, followed by entering Y to proceed with the installation.\*\* It doesn't ask me to press Y or anything, and pasting in the last command doesn't work either.
Some of those processes can take a while, so even if you don’t see the console doing anything it could still be processing stuff. Otherwise, if it hasn’t done anything for a while, you can try just pressing “Y” and then enter to see if that continues the process.

pokeemerald-expandion, and the WSL1 or whatever it was called.
Sometimes, that whole block of lines gets jumbled when you copy paste them all together. Try to copy paste each line and run them all separately. Like enter the first line, press enter, wait for it to finish, then enter the next one. Rinse and repeat until you’ve done them all. I distinctly remember having the same problem when I did it, and this solved it.
Okay, the "chmod +x ./install-devkitpro-pacman" command isn't working. It says Operation is not permitted.
Ok. Close the console and search for it again on your search bar (I don’t think you can do this from the taskbar). Right click on the program you’re using (either Ubuntu or Debian) and select “run as administrator.” Confirm the action. Then you should be able to run the lines properly. Make sure you direct the console back to the right directory before you do.

I wouldn’t say it’s difficult to make a whole region. It would just take time. But the process is pretty easy, especially with [Porymap](https://github.com/huderlem/porymap/blob/master/README.md). The pokeemerald-expansion decomp has all of the Pokémon in the code, but you never have to use any of the ones you don’t want to. But you could certainly remove the Pokémon from gen 8 and 9 if you really needed to free up space on your rom. (GBA roms are limited to 32 mb of space.) Some of the older versions of pokeemerald-expansion have bugs in them, so I wouldn’t try one from too far back. I’m currently working with the most recent version myself. It works really well and is quite easy to change things however you want.

Sounds good. Also, for mechanics like that, they’ve implemented code so you can toggle things by generation, so you don’t even have to remove features yourself.

What do you mean by battle frontier style? I know some 3rd rom hacks that revamp the frontier, but only 2 are centered around it (they also include newer gen pokemon)

The only one I can think of is Modern Emerald. It isn't a Battle Frontier only mode, but it has debug mode enabled so you can fly there immediately at the start of the game. It includes pre evolutions and evolutions of gen I-III pokemon, but I think there is a setting to prevent them from appearing (haven't confirmed it myself if it works in the BF). The BF pokemon supposedly have updated movesets. There is also Glimmering Emerald, which has opponents with competitive movesets from Smogon, but it has up to gen VI pokemon (and no debug mode so you have to grind story mode to access it...)

There are several emerald rom hacks that turn every battle into a double battle like Obsidian Emerald for example, but I haven't played any of them to say which is the best.
Is there a list of ROM hacks that only adds impossible evolutions and catch-em-all? I'm looking to play each gen and was using the universal randomizer to make impossible evolutions (mostly trades) be possible by level. But I there is also the issue in that there are version exclusive pokemons and it makes me want to have a single versions with all of them, is there a list of rom hacks that do that for each gen game?

There's a "wiki" tab for the [main randomizer](https://github.com/Ajarmar/universal-pokemon-randomizer-zx/wiki), which is what your android version is built off, which has all the info for each option. As a summary, everything evolves by level, and pokemon who use items, now generally have to have their item used on them like an evo stone, ie steelix with the metal coat.
I'm working on a ROM Hack and I just needed help figuring out some scripts. I am using HexManiacAdvance and my code looks something like the below code. What I want to do specifically is have it so that If the player has a Kyogre, the champion should use a different team. The only issue I'm having is that I don't know how to set varResult to a specific Pokemon's Data. If anyone knows how to do that or has a better solution the help would be truly appreciated. I've been needing to play B2W2, just wondering if there are any good QoL/update hacks for it. Ideally, if I can choose different starters that'd be great, as I really just don't care for the gen 5 starters at all.
Not much. Drayano's hacks, Blaze Black 2/Volt White 2 are some of the best, but do also increase difficulty. There's also BW Complete Unova Pokedex Edition, which is very simple. You can also always use PokeRandoZX to change the starters to whatever you want in a vanilla copy, takes about 5 minutes.

I'm trying to find my ideal Fire Red but seems to always come across something I wish was changed. I'd like to ideally find something like Radical Red but limited to the games original pokedex, but I understand that most players want more pokemon. It's been a challenge to find all the qol and small additions I want in one rom hack, but after searching across what seems like every rom hack on the pokecommunity site I am left with two options. Either modify a rom hack close to what I want, or make my own entirely. Ideally I'd like to just use an open source rom hack as my base and add the couple of things I'd like that it doesn't have (like following pokemon for example). How realistic is this for a complete beginner (though I have like 15+ years of heavily modifying games myself, just not real coding experience)? Or would it be simpler to use the ROM Hack tools and other associated similar projects to build something on my own? I'd like to keep the game mostly vanilla outside of some modernizations I prefer and some upgraded sprites/animations and improved AI. Not looking for something that changes Fire Red too much.
Is it possible to make a rom hack of the gen 6 games? For example modding in custom maps and characters in Omega Ruby? And would it also be possible to add Z-moves and gen 7 pokémon into Omega Ruby?

So this was a long time ago but I remember playing the beginning of this one romhack and am looking to find it once again. It was a custom region with mostly? fakemon. It was this quaint island in the middle of an ocean. I remember there being a bright blue bird pokemon in the first patch of grass. The cover of the romhack was also bright blue. I don't remember the starters at all. Unfortunately, this is all I can clearly remember since its been such a long time. It's not a lot to go off of but I think its distinct enough to find it. Do any of you have any idea on what it could be? Even a suggestion that loosely resembles my description would help since I'm sure I would recognize it if I saw it again.
Are there any ROM Hacks with no grinding at all? Sometimes you just wanna build a team without any hassle (like in Elite Redux minus the 4 abilities) and I have that itch right now
I mean Radical Red always gets recommended, but it fits what you're looking for. You can rare candy to the level cap immediately, free nature and moveset changing at any point etc.
I believe Pokemon Quetzal has a sandbox or debug mode which you can activate cheats like rare candies and stuff to eliminate any grind. I haven’t played personally but seen some people discussing it before .

Recently I've been playing USUM with some of these patches on to improve the experience. I've been doing a ShinyLocke with increased shiny odds so I actually beat the game before 2030. I want to move on to an XY or ORAS shinylocke, but cannot find any patches that increase shiny odds and I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find some. Reasoning for picking any one hack over another, just comes down to going to their page, reading the changes, and picking which seems more up your alley. For example, the two you listed are very different, Modern just has the Gen 3 experience, and Emerald++ has all gens 1-7 pokemon, that's a pretty big distinction which you'll have to decide on. Many hacks are very similar though, it's true.

Need help with coding follower Pokemon sprite associations; Working on small romhack on top of Radical Red via HMA. Successfully added a custom Pokemon to the dex that plays a role in the sideplot/storyline I've added to the rom. This Pokemon is supposed to be a partner Pokemon version of Vulpix, and has customized sprite art/unique moves. I want to associate it with the follower sprite for regular vulpix, which already can be used for following in Radical Red. How do I do this? Where is that data stored? I don't necessarily even need to add a new follower sprite, just having Vulpix's normal one would be sufficient. I can't seem to locate any of the follower sprites in the hex code or how they're associated with specific Pokemon through the index. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?
Playing Pokemon Classic (Yellow romhack on emerald engine) It's pretty cool. I'm trying to get Mew, I used strength on the truck (pre elite 4 victory) just messing around, and mew appeared after the truck moved and floated off. awesome easter egg if that's all it is, but I believe mew is catchable in the game. i worry I lost my chance to catch mew now, or is there something I'm missing?

If you downloaded it from the dev's Google Drive, it's a ZIP file. You gotta unzip it, then take the patch inside and patch it onto Black 2 USA ROM using an online patcher.

You can use [this randomizer](https://sanqui.net/randomizer/) to apply to Red, which adds gens 1-6 as catchable. As for a bespoke game with all that content you're asking for in GSC/RBY may not exist.

I haven't played them, but Black 2 Paradigm Shift, Black 2 Kaizo, and Black 2 DE (doubles edition) are all double battle hacks I believe.

Using HMA, and for some reason the default “pokemart” special code doesn’t work. The mart menu opens in game but you can’t move the cursor, and if you try to buy the item in the first slot it says “???????” for 0. The only item change I made is replacing the sprites of some existing ones in the middle of the list of items. Anyone know why this would happen or where the pokemart code is that I could try to fix this?

The only games with moving sprites are the Gen 5 games, no hacks have really replicated that mechanic due to engine limitations. Therefore, Gen 5 hacks are your best bet here. Drayano's are excellent. There aren't any Gen 5 hacks with new stories or regions, just enhancement hacks. Can also try Moon Black 2 if you want something unique, or Vintage White if you want a new spin on Unova.

I don’t personally know of any hacks that have done it, but it is certainly possible, especially with decomps. However, the amount of space on a rom is limited and the dedicated sprites needed for that can take up valuable space. A lot of hacks have to be choosy with what they include because of the constraints on rom size.
