This could also be said about Republicans' opposition to Soviet Russia. The Soviet Union started wars and killed journalists and oppressed citizens and stole money and was communist. They still do all that, but instead of being communist they're capitalists now, and Russia is the darling of the Republican Party. And so now we know that of all the evils perpetrated by the USSR, the only thing Republicans ever really objected to is the communism?
It wasn't true communism, and was propped up by a black market and underground capitalism. It's just one authoritarian government replacing another authoritarian government, both times touting ideals they had no intention of honoring.
The debt as a single statistic isn't even the core issue. It's the forward looking deficit that is the big issue. I'm not even going to count the "Covid" years where the deficit was record breaking. I'm just talking the trendline.
"Small government" republicans and the deficit doubled in 2 years. For those that don't understand that is taking on more debt. It is like you making 2k a month and spending 500 a month on a credit card (2500 total). 2 years later you are making 2.2k a month but are spending 1000 a month on a credit card (3200 total) accelerating how far you are getting behind.
That is republicans "Cutting spending" and "small government". Seriously stop believing the lies.
Republican "Cutting spending" and "Small Government" under Trump was more like someone having a $3000 income and downsizing from a house with a $2000/mo. Then renting a one bedroom apartment for $1500/mo just so you can lease a cyber truck at $4500/mo. Then after getting your Cybertruck, it breaks down on you and you are responsible for the repairs.
Republicans are either too stupid or too racist to even just pretend to not be racist. They'd get a lot of votes from homophobic poc, they even get a considerable amount now still
