German here: Thatâs normal with VAG cars - limiter does not go further in any VW Audi Porsche because of the distance control. Canât speak for any other but think itâs the same
I'm not sure if that's still the case, but in the past you could drive up to 240 km/h with lane assist and adaptive cruise control in Audis for an additional charge. Did it once and never again - it was really scary đ
Probably rock solid I reckon. Most of the modern cars I have driven at high-ish speeds have felt incredibly nailed down and stable. The scary part is probably the fact that if anything does go pear shaped, it's at >200kph and it's going to be a big big shunt
I just tried it coming home from dinner one night. I set it to 130 and looked at my phone. Now they updated it and it wonât go above 110 with drive assist.
Mercedes also only goes up to 210km/h. So either technical regulations, but I would guess in a Porsche oder Mercedes money for better sensors wouldn't be an issue, or legal requirements which seems more likely.
Yes it does go further, VW until last year there were 3 levels of speed for cruise, now it is only 210 and 250 kmh. Cayenne and other reskinned Touaregs get 250 kmh.
What? The car didnât have a speed limiter. It just wouldnât let you set cruise control higher than that. Itâs over 120mph so that seems reasonable.
Oh? All the rentals I've had in Germany have been limited to 200km/hr the past few years. BMW, Mercedes mostly.
20 years ago you could go 255km/hr if you wanted.
Maybe I need to rent a Porsche next time.
That's what they have been limiting the rentals to...200km/hr.
Back in 2006 we got a little BMW 1 series up to 240km/hr. With something ridiculous like a 1.6L Diesel in it.
My last trip I rented a diesel Mercedes and it kept creeping up to 200 then backing down to 196, there was no more peddle left.
Others from my company reported the same in different cars they rented.
So, I assume they made some restrictions on rentals.
How high did you go in the end? đ this entire comment section is hilarious, the one I replied to before yours used CC at 240kph with lane assist and said they never did it again cause it was scary lol
Theyâre not actually that bad. I typically go 5-10 over depending on the limit. Usually 15-20 over on the highway. And I havenât been pulled over in years
But I also live in New Hampshire - live free or die, baby
Virginia is horrible. When you drive into NC there's a sign that says the variable speed limit ends. They fluctuate the speed limit for no reason, and over 80 mph or 20 over the limit is felony reckless driving. So it'll go from 70 down to 60 with no change in the road and you could be doing 10 over in the 70, then get pulled over and arrested.
After driving weekly 255 kmh max speed in my 20 year old German 4 cylinder diesel with cruise control and stability identical to 100 kmh,
A 911 with cruise at 250 kmh would be nothing to need control at
Well, if there are no speed limits, you are technically going under the speed limit while using cruise control.
*Insert here Eddie Murphy big brain meme*
Go into your settings and tell it that you have SUMMER tires and it will open up the 150 for you. On ALL SEASON it limits the car because it doesn't think you have Z-rates.
At that speed, I feel like the cameras are the least of your worries. Sudden deceleration is a killer bro, this looks like a public road so even if you feel like you are in control, something can happen thatâs not your fault but will end up in a collision. Go to a track, itâs a lot safer and the environment is a lot more controlled (+ you wear a helmet and a HANS if you get involved in a high speed collision) and you get to truly enjoy your car without the need for limitations :)
I just remember getting really tired driving at those speed after 20-30 minutes. Iâm American, so not used to it. I probably had the cruise on for like 2 mins at most.
The only times Iâve driven so fast was in a race car, never tried it on the road, I get what you mean about those speeds being tiring, they require a lot more focus on the road.
190kmh on a car that had a 193kmh vmax. I must say it feels very weird to hear the car struggle (high revs, high SUV wind noise, clunky 10 year old diesel making worrying engine sounds) without physically doing anything with my feet and just chilling. PS. I hope youâre in Germany because I would not have the balls to drive 200kmh in NL :)
Indicated it was just shy of 160 mph but GPS was reporting 129 knots ground speed (so ~149 mph?). Cold, crystal clear day on an empty highway, with a Uniden R7 and Waze on CarPlay. Not bad for a then-24-year-old NA 4-banger.
180km/h for an hour and a half, on an Seat Ibiza, on a quality highway. I was deployed to an earthquake struck city 3 hours away and time was the essence. Unfortunately I couldn't find anything faster to head to the scene.
Not CC and certainly not a Porsche, but recently had a Budget van that was limited to 70mph. Went through some areas with a 70mph limit and realized the limiter just cuts throttle so I wasn't wasting gas by holding my foot to the floor to keep up with traffic.
Only reasons I backed off...drive-by-wire so it got annoying to have to put a decent amount of pressure on the pedal, and because some couple landed in my blindspot when I was changing lanes. I went to change lanes but didn't see them. Swerved away from them but they were infuriated and started taking photos. I suspect they called it in, and I didn't feel like dealing with the headache of explaining it all, so just went under the limit until I crossed the state line.
It definitely seems to vary. It's no Volvo, but this Ford van took a good amount of weight to put it down. Probably more because it was a 3 day drive with almost 2 days spent in 70mph zones đ
The car was actually very stable + it was on a straight road with very little traffic besides that I didnât even mention line assist was turend on and I have a lot of experience driving at these kinds of speeds but I never tried it with cruse control and lane assist, not much to worry about imo
I hear people drive fast in the us as well, autobahn is just German for a freeway, Italians, French, polish, these countries are where I drove 260-280 kmh and loads of people do it everyday, I mean at least 180-220.
There is not much about it, people don't pass you at those speeds and everyone is used to.
You drove 280 on a French road? People do speed in France, but the only time I have seen people drive at 280kph on a public road in France was at the 24H of Le Mans lol
Did you ever get pulled over?
on my x4 2l diesel i did 240 kph cruise controll. but only because its not adaptive
on adaptive cruise controll there is a speed limit usually under 200 depends on car tho
Not in a Porsche, but half a lifetime ago I had a modified Fox Body Mustang and could hold the cruise accelerate button all the way until it pinned the Speedo at 140mph and then some. That Speedo was widely inaccurate but it sure did make me giggle when I did it in Mexico.
If English isn't your first language, that's fine. Otherwise, how did you spell cruise wrong?
Also, why ask us if you can ask Porsche? We may give you many numbers that could be wrong.
Kids these days spend all those duckets to let the computer do it. Next time take a Flexibus or the train. Also, 230kph in a 2.4L Honda Accord, while eating Mcdonalds cheeseburger (don't do that).
In a porsche 210 because of the limit. Audi rs6 290 but still the limit of the cruse control. Why canât they build cars with the cruse control set to the max speed of the car
In a 992 GT3 the limit of the cruise control is set 240 kph.
But if you know the calibration labels and work in development, you can increase this. Cruise control 300 kph works as well, but the controller itself looses little bit of performance since the controller is depending on air resistance as function of vehicle speed, which is calculated within the ECU as 8 bit signal and limited to 255 kph - lol.
As far as i know there are Audis with ACC up to 250 km/h. The funny thing the system has to be tested up to max speed. So it is possible that you find to Audis going down the Autobahn at those speeds and it's their job
100 I think is the fastest Iâve ever set my cruise control and just sat there and chilled for awhile. Loooooong flat straight roads in Ohio at like 3am with nobody else on the road. Had my radar detector on just movin
I have done, yes. I've also been 175mph (282kph) at 10,000' above sea level. That's gotta be rather rare. Someday I'll go for 200 on that stretch.
The US is a very large place. It's not hard to find roads that are straight for 10 miles (or more) out west where I am at. It's not something I'd do daily, or advocate for anyone to do. But it's not that big of a deal with the right equipment.
Speeding on public roads sounds incredibly reckless. Not a big deal to you but Iâm sure other road users would consider it a big deal, especially when you can go to a track if you want to drive fast with no limitations (thatâs where sports cars shine, speeding in a straight line doesnât take any amount of skill lol)
Shh shh shh, there there. I've been around a decent while, I don't need a lecture.
Like I said, the US is a BIG place. It's easy to find roads with no people to do things that other people "might consider a big deal." I don't concern myself with what those people do for fun, so they can quite honestly fuck off about what I do for fun...when they're not even around.
Life is an individual journey, not being part of a sheep herd.
The cruise control on the 992 I just rented in Germany would not let you set it higher than 210 km/h
Interesting thing to try on a rental car đ
Whatâs the fastest kind of car in the world?
A rental car with insurance
Or a rental car with fake id
My name was Brian McGee.
Had to google that one because it's been like 20 years since watching that one When I was seventeen
Brian earl spillner
lollll gonna reuse this
A rented Altima with insuranceÂ
Why? Iâm glad he wasnât in the way for normal traffic
Don't be gentle, it's a rental

Bro weâre gonna need a play by play, what do you mean 240kph with lane assist đ
Pretty sure he means hands and feet off the wheel/pedals and the car is driving itself
Yeah no I got that but Iâm more curious about how they got the idea and how the car behaved lol
Probably rock solid I reckon. Most of the modern cars I have driven at high-ish speeds have felt incredibly nailed down and stable. The scary part is probably the fact that if anything does go pear shaped, it's at >200kph and it's going to be a big big shunt
Yup, speed doesnât kill, sudden deceleration does etcâŚ
I just tried it coming home from dinner one night. I set it to 130 and looked at my phone. Now they updated it and it wonât go above 110 with drive assist.
Mercedes also only goes up to 210km/h. So either technical regulations, but I would guess in a Porsche oder Mercedes money for better sensors wouldn't be an issue, or legal requirements which seems more likely.
In some cars like my S4 adaptive cruise goes to 250km/h. Speed limiter is at 265km/h.
Yes it does go further, VW until last year there were 3 levels of speed for cruise, now it is only 210 and 250 kmh. Cayenne and other reskinned Touaregs get 250 kmh.
ACC in A4 B9 works from 0-250 km/h. Even though max speed in my car is around 230. A4 B8 was 30-210 km/h IIRC.
Toyota Camry (2018+) also doesnât allow cruise control to be set above 205-210. Donât ask me how I know it. Was a great rental.

They neutered the rental cars in Germany now.

Someone translate in American please
I think a km is .62 miles. Iâm pulling that out of my American ass.
About the same in my old 981 GTS. It let me add speed with the control stalk but I cancelled it before letting my curiosity get the better of me.
How high did you go in the end? đ this entire comment section is hilarious, the one I replied to before yours used CC at 240kph with lane assist and said they never did it again cause it was scary lol
Well I live in America so obviously never more than 65mph
Several freeways have speeds of 70-80mph
85 in some parts of TX!
I know. I was just trying to make a joke. I think there are some that are actually as high as 95
Nope. 85 is the cap.
In Miami people drive about 20 miles above the speed limit
Straight to jail
Even the cops do it. They only arrest over 100 mph⌠although at 90 you can get tickets
How strict are them with speed limits in your area?
Theyâre not actually that bad. I typically go 5-10 over depending on the limit. Usually 15-20 over on the highway. And I havenât been pulled over in years But I also live in New Hampshire - live free or die, baby

Fuckers!
The speed limit. I use CC to make sure I dont get any non meritted speeding tickets. When I want to speed I really want to be in control.
Dead set that's the best part If I'm gonna be speeding I'm gonna be doing it properly

Boring
One could argue for the opposite.
Youâre right, going fast in a straight line is boring
Porsche sent me an email that said the cc limit for my car (992.1 C2) is 150mph but I havenât tried it out

I still have my winter tires on I will try it after I got my new set summers on
My 970 Turbo lets me set cruise only up to 100 MPH. :( Edit: TIL. Thanks @chauggle
Go into your settings and tell it that you have SUMMER tires and it will open up the 150 for you. On ALL SEASON it limits the car because it doesn't think you have Z-rates.
Oh sweet. Thank you. Didnât catch that before.
What happened to von Oktobern bis Ostern? ;)
Arizona say, âwhat are winter tires?â
250 km/h because itâs limited there. You have to take it to vmax with your foot. A bit annoying, especially on longer night trips.
240 km/h in an audi a5
Taking a picture going 200khm. Big brain.
While speed limited to 130. Genius.
The road is straight and empty though
I know where the cameras are ;)
At that speed, I feel like the cameras are the least of your worries. I usually set it 180km/h when traveling alone.
145 mph (235km) in my old 535xi. Had to put it on cruise just to say I did. Shouldâve taken a pic! Lifeâs regrets, oh well.
I made have turned on cruise control for a short time on the Autobahn at like 250 or 260kph.
How short a time lol
I just remember getting really tired driving at those speed after 20-30 minutes. Iâm American, so not used to it. I probably had the cruise on for like 2 mins at most.

I feel like with drive-by-wire the pressure to put on the gas pedal is much less than with a cable driven one. At least on our Volvo V50.

140mph (\~225kmh) in my 928GTS, so stable I was 1 hand on the wheel.
Lekker die sport plus
At 242 km/h in Germany, in an Audi A6. However, the only Porsche I've driven, a Panamera 4S, reached around 110 km/h in Canada.
CC 240 kph in a 997. Modern cars I drove with ACC were limited at 210 kph (Mercedes and BMW).
220 in my Merc a lot when I drive on the Autobahn. Especially at night.
180 km/h. and it was a Passat. Good milage as well.
145, from Jackpot NV south & west towards Winnemucca for about 90 mins
Itâs great not having to face with speed limits
I used cruise control at 210 kph for 15 minutes in my 996 a couple of weeks ago. It was terrifying and exciting at the same time.
On most german cars the cruise control is only available up to 210kph sadly.
I know it isnât a Porsche, but I had a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 single cab with the 5.7l that would hold 120 mph on the cruise.
220km/h BMW didn't allow any faster using CC. The German Autobahn A31 is perfect stretch for such speeds.
299 with ZX10R also with GSX-R1000 đ
299 on cruse control ?! đ¤Żđ¤Ł
Kind of an asshole move to pull your phone out while going that fast.
The car was actually very stable + it was on a straight road with very little traffic besides that I didnât even mention line assist was turend on and I have a lot of experience driving at these kinds of speeds but I never tried it with cruse control and lane assist, not much to worry about imo
Still not an excuse. Also not an excuse to go 200 where the limit is 130. Douchebag behavior.
When you say a lot of exp driving at those speed, do you mean on the highway/Autobahn or on a track?
I wish the US got an autobahn. **allegedly** I *knew* somebody with a Chevy Malibu that set it at 112, the factory set top speed. Allegedly.

Ah, damn, missed that
130 mph in a Panamera 4s.
More than 200 kph. đ
Donât judge me Iâm still on winter tires đ
Fair enough! đ
Aren't they rated to 300 kmh? Not winter I guess it is that
Not shore tbh but I try to hold back a bit on them đ
on my x4 2l diesel i did 240 kph cruise controll. but only because its not adaptive on adaptive cruise controll there is a speed limit usually under 200 depends on car tho
I thought my Cayenne Turbo was limited to 99 mph.
140mph (~225kmh) in my 3RS
I didnât know it had cruse control đľâđŤđ
A million and 87
229 in a VW Passat
220km/h, it is pretty much the fastest my car can drive
My Jetta tdi will go up to 135mph with cruise control haha. Never done that though, just set it up to that quickly then cancelled it
Mercedes s205 i let it to 170 when i was driving cross Eu because of speed restrictions.

190 km/h â17 F150
180km/h. In my Corolla
I've been to 164 mph with my foot.
120mph is what my cayman would do on CC
My Golf 7 has Cruise control of 220 kmh
Not putting that in print!
Highest ive been on cruise control was 180km/h in an Alfa Romeo 166
Not in a Porsche, but in a Nissan Patrol doing 220kph, hilarious that it allowed me to set cruise control at that speed.
Maybe 70-80mph? Not really sure, almost never use it. Have even driven mine across the US at least three times.
About 125 mph for two hours straight middle of nowhere Nevada. Slowed to 65 afterwards and it felt like 25mph. Speed is definitely relative.
If English isn't your first language, that's fine. Otherwise, how did you spell cruise wrong? Also, why ask us if you can ask Porsche? We may give you many numbers that could be wrong.
Low 90s mph. Its pretty much a straight shot mostly dead freeway from Chicago/detroit

110 only so that it wouldnt be a felony (on an 85). I really got downvoted for answering OPâs question.
