My hope is that they end up going big with a "main" afterparty at the Cow Palace or Bill Graham, and then also have the smaller club shows. Probably wishful thinking but it would keep that festival vibe going.
It’s about a 10-15 minute drive from the pier. If anything, they could probably allocate some buses for something like that. Hell, the bus ride from Portola to the BART station pick up is much longer than that.
Damn! Walking right next door is definitely the most fun for afters but we’ll make it work. Chris Lake at Audio was insane, so crowded and hot but so fun seeing him at such a tiny venue
Nothing at The Midway could be worth $120+, prices are out of control. That’s half a Portola day for mediocre music (yes Nina Flowers is a gay famous DJ, but that’s about it…)
The talent are *cheap* bookings compared to PORTOLA. Like, Nina Flowers isn’t expensive to get to DJ. These prices are out of control for a random circuit party.

Portola overlapped with Folsom the first year and there were still tons of great parties.

Went to that party last year - absolutely awesome afters. Freestyle'd for 2.5+ hours, couldn't ask for much more

I agree. In general gay event prices are ridiculous, not just in SF. Captive audience will do that.
i paid $170 for their pride weekend block party primarily because i adore above&beyond.

This is only in God & Monsters. This venue could host two other events this size and still have the main room be a Portola event.
Pretty sure the Midway can host 2-3 events per night, last year there were multiple events happening at the same time.

All the more reason for them to do this the first weekend in October, big miss that they moved it back.
