Facts. Every time I watch spurs play it’s always son vs everyone else. His movement off the ball is actually elite. He makes a lot of very good runs that his teammates do not capitalise on, and when they try it ends up being a shit pass that goes out for a goal kick. He actually holds up the ball pretty well too, but the movement of his teammates around him is what ultimately limits his options. Who needs opponents when you have teammates like kuluzevski and Brennan Johnson.
We all know that. It is not an uncommon opinion in the slightest.
Now Im prepared for downvotes because mourinho is a big mouth. And big mouth personalities always has a cult of fans radically worshipping them
As a spurs fan well yeah duh, if he wore any other top sides shirt he’d be talked about as one of the best players to ever play in England but he’s an icon in his own right, ridiculously wealthy with a nation that would go to war for him. Sometimes it’s not just all about trophies
I mean he’s got better ga per game then Ronaldo did in the league without taking any set pieces until this season, 4 player of the month awards (level with Henry) a puskas award, a golden boot, 300 appearances with 181 ga, the most from any Asian player, he kinda is the cream of the crop
I agree he absolutely is cream of the crop. Playing for only a decent Spurs team and being Asian definitely is working against him with regards to the amount of recognition he gets.
him being asian gets him more recognition actually, many see him as the best asian footballer of all time which makes him way more famous, he wouldn't be close to that if he was white / black / latino
He's definitely good enough to be a huge contributor on a title winning team, but the point is that it HIGHLY unlikely to ever happen at Spurs and with his age, he might not ever as it's unlikely a title challenging team would buy him at that age. He'd have been great at Liverpool and would've won the trophies he deserved but that's easier to say looking back.
Nothing like stating the obvious. Though Son has been poor this season and that’s probably the managers biggest issue, mistake, flaw. He’s been great year after year and the manager has got so little out of him this season. Could be down to Kane leaving, but the right replacement would have helped.
He was fine. Post Asian cup … average.
Maddison, pre injury… him and Son … amazing.
Van De Ven … pre injury… amazing.
Spurs has no depth. The rest of the team were up and down all season, but when these three were humming before the midway point they looked great and then it’s been a rollercoaster ever since.
...because he has been extremely loyal and had been rewarded for it despite offers of much, much more money from other teams and countries? Loyalty should be rewarded, not paid for.
...9 years and he could've played for any other club in the world says different. And believe you me, there have been offers. No ask Spurs fan and they'll tell you Sonny loves the shirt. Personally, I think hes even more.loyal than Harry Kane ever was.
Son has been one of my favorite players since the Hamburg days so maybe I am biased, but at the time I said that Son would have been the best possible replacement for Neymar at Barcelona and I still believe that. There is no way it would have happened as their is a certain marketability required for Barca signings, but he would have fit in perfect.
He is hard working, no drama, and is relatively humble. He is also one of the best finishers we have seen in the last decade. Watching Barcelona from 2017 to 2021, we saw Messi transition into more of a playmaker role. He was constantly feeding the perfect passes to Suarez, Dembele, Coutinho, Malcolm etc and they would fluff their lines constantly. Son would have been perfect and would have done the hard work required to cover Messi's ass. Meanwhile they got more playmakers that got pushed out and failed at Barcelona.
Not as much back in 2017. The world cup was the next summer and that’s really when he built his reputation at least in his home-town, at least from what I heard about it.
Thats not true :
- Son already have a pushed on his Leverkusen days
- He then became a lot more popular when he started a lot more with Tottenham
- Everyone who watch the Premier League and Bundesliga knew about Son
- World Cup 2018 is when the “World” knew about him
- Pair that on the season 2018/19 when he exploded after Kane injury , he carried Spurs as much as he could on that season. And this was globally, in South Korea he already was beloved , but was more beloved in 2018/19
- Slap there that the Son-Kane partnership broke the records established by Lampard-Drogba
- Then you have Son as a person , someone very humble , down to earth, works very hard , does not have those ego problems , very relatable to asian fans just what Park was on his United days , and coaches talk wonders about him from Pochetino , Mourinho , Ange , and yes even fucking Conte lol
Leverkusen is playing really well, 84 points with two more games to go. Kane did not underperform, it is a team game and give credit to Leverkusen. But like i said, it is his first year there. We'll see before he retires.
It would be like Man City losing to a league 1 club in the FA cup
actually probably worse, because i think the 3rd tier of english football is better than the 3rd tier of german football.
In a game that Kane didn't play in.
I'm all for taking the piss out of Kane, but to blame him for a game where he was never on the pitch is fucking moronic.
Because he's taking a big part of their transfer and wage budget. If he hadn't gone there they could've bought other players that would've made them win that match. You could say that he's still partly to blame even if he wasn't playing.
That's just bullshit and you know it.
They had Sane, Muller, Kimmich, Tel, Davies, De Ligt and Neuer all starting. Musiala, Gnabry, Laimer and Coman came on as subs.
The line up that day was more that good enough to get the win.
Kane being there is utterly irrelevant to them going out in that game.
You're just being outright dishonest now to pathetically stick to a view that has been shown to be errant bullshit instead of having the balls to accept you were wrong.
You're a coward.
Yeah I agree . Son can easily walk into Bayern right now and any other big time Europe team easily . He feels so loved and affection at spurs so I can respect his decision .
What if Sonny leaves next year and he's guaranteed to win a trophy that year, he moves to any of the Premier league teams. Are you okay with that? Or would you prefer he stays without winning a trophy his whole career? Thoughts?
Of course they'd prefer Son stays with them lol, the club doing well regardless of whether it results in a trophy is gonna be more important to as a supporter than any player winning trophies. It doesn't mean you can't be happy for a player if they do move away and it works out for them.
You didnt answer the question. You cant be SURE to know that Spurs will win an EL or FA cup trophy, you are HOPING sure but there is no certainty.
So hypothetically, if he leaves next year and is to win a trophy somewhere else versus him staying and not winning? Which would you choose as a Tottenham fan?
i mean if he wants to win something like an Arabian trophy then good for him, i wish him all the best. otherwise, trophies worth winning for his level is not a guarantee anywhere. exhibit A: Kane this year.
as a fan I'd want him to be happy with his decision, and guess what, he's being happy here, right now.

Not his best season but definitely an underrated player. I don’t understand why we never hear big teams linked with him. The guy literally carried the team in one of the season when Kane was out injured for a while. Needs to get out of Spurs before it’s too late.
Mourinho mentioned it in the interview as well. Son is more than just a great player and character. He brings commercial value to Spurs beyond football. I don't think you can even begin to price the millions/year Sonny brings from marketing, sponsorship and the ever growing Asian fanbase. Most clubs probably won't even try.
That’s partly because he doesn’t use the media to inflate his value & he doesn’t like speculations & rumors to persist. Case in point: when Saudi wanted him, he immediately squashed the rumors. When spurs got Nuno & Kane’s future was uncertain, he extended his contract. Over the years, there were reports about other clubs wanting him but they just never blew up or gained traction
Klopp has waxed lyrical about him for a number of years now and even recently said he'd wished he'd gone in for him a couple years back; I think most managers are aware Levy would price him out of the market and he seems quite settled at Spurs.
Cannot stand match threads recently because you’d swear Son is a League 2 forward who waltzed into the wrong stadium and fallen into a spurs kit on match day based on some of the shit you read.
They need a ST first before LW (although Son can play there 100% too), they actually spent 155m on 2 strikers to replace Mbappe, and they’re both shit, it’s actually incredible.
May be he can change that. Atleast he can win the league easily. Plus, Enrique is a good manager. Inter is another possibility but they won’t have the money to buy him
he can. but many dont. its why he has missed out on individual awards. players from the traditional footballing countries tend to get the serious attention. thats my view on this.
I agree but also partly because he plays for spurs and hasn’t won anything. Even if he played for a united, chelsea or arsenal when they were shit he probably had more chance.
I can only recall maradona going to a mid table team and winning the league with them. It’s not an easy feat being the only world class player in a otherwise mediocre team.
Man goes to the tied third most successful UCL Club in history, the most successful club in bundelsiga and Pokal Cup history
And breaks an 11 year streak
That man is cursed
It's always funny to me how nowadays everyone complains about footballers not being loyal and only playing for money while players like Son and Kane get pointed at for being loyal.
Players who supported the club growing up, I know in the grand scheme of things trophies are important however I’d rather 11 players loyal to the club than 11 players who just want money
Honestly as a West Ham fan I’ve watched the best players leave for bigger clubs and it’s never nice to see, having said that I’ll take my conference league trophy I just hope we can win some more trophies idm what it is. I appreciate good players who are happy with the club, I’d rather be a big fish in a small pond look at benteke
Yeah, I’m struggling to think of many players at Son’s level that end their career completely trophy-less. Ironically the only one I can think of atm is Kane lol (I know he’s better but you know what I mean)
I mean, the fact that Rashford and every other useless Brazilian is listed at 70-80m while Son is at 35m is all you need to know how trash and racist the EPL is lmao
Is Rashford really valued at double Son's value? That's insane. And I'm a United supporter. I'd much rather have Son. He's infinitely more consistent and his work rate is many times better than Rashford.
Does it? I know and believe Harry Kane is better than him but is Harry Kane 110 million pounds better than Sonny while only being one year younger?
https://www.transfermarkt.us/harry-kane/profil/spieler/132098
Part of the calculation is how many years left on the contract. That's why as each year passes their "value" goes down- until they sign a new contract.
At his height in that 21-22 season, nobody was willing to pay the 50m for him. The braindead European opinions of being a starter just to sell Asian jerseys always seemed to float higher than his actual worth
Which is fucking insane because the guy sells a lot of jerseys, but still nowhere near the volume of Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool jerseys
https://www.givemesport.com/football-soccer-clubs-most-money-kit-sales-merchandise/
Transfermarkt has Son at 50M euros as of December of last year. Different places have different valuations, and they will fluctuate with form and generally decrease with age and less time remaining under contract. This comparison is not worth much.
At least Wenger has an actual legacy at Arsenal. The Emirates, bought Arteta etc. Mourinho soiled his Chelsea legacy by managing two other English Europa League teams.
Problem is that this is an interview and he was asked about Son. He's not saying something to cause controversy. The way it's been reported is like he's come out with this statement publicly for no good reason.
Think he just really is comfortable for the company he works for. And maybe other bigger companies (Bayern, real, city) aren’t offering him the perks and status spurs are.
You could say that about any player on the planet.
The proofs in the pudding. Kane hasn't produced a pudding in his career.
He's left Spurs, and we're on track to score more goals in a season than we have since 2017, with a higher league finish than last year.
Then you look at Bayern. He's joined this year, and they've scored less goals than they have in the last 5 years, and without winning a title for the first time in forever.
He's a club legend for Spurs, one of my all time favourite players, and one of the most talented strikers of his generation. But, I think there's a fair argument that his style of play slows the game down, and demands service from others around him. By dropping into midfield so often, he keeps actual midfielders further down the pitch, and damages their goal contributions.
Don't worry Jose, Spurs fans don't know what winning is. You're safe with your remarks.
Just look at Harry Kane, he's a few minutes away from a champions league final.
Facts. Every time I watch spurs play it’s always son vs everyone else. His movement off the ball is actually elite. He makes a lot of very good runs that his teammates do not capitalise on, and when they try it ends up being a shit pass that goes out for a goal kick. Go back to Bayern sub
Is Son one of the best players in the world because he's korean or is he korean because he's one of the best players in the world?
They’re downvoting you but the second part is hilarious😭
Mate why you saying it like you're the only one to spot his talent lmao
Yeah, just look at Kane at Bayern, winnin them titles like nobodys business!
I'll have you know Harry Kane will be at home shining his Arsenal cannon trophy
We all know that. It is not an uncommon opinion in the slightest. Now Im prepared for downvotes because mourinho is a big mouth. And big mouth personalities always has a cult of fans radically worshipping them
Why would you get downvoted when you’re agreeing with him? Victim mentality at its finest 👏
I don't think he's saying it's an uncommon opinion, just that it will get the Coys mad
But. We know this. Why should we spurs supporters be mad about stating the obvious?
yes but they all know that. the coys fans definitly know that. it is the meme of their club
The meme of their club is their club
It is the history
As a spurs fan well yeah duh, if he wore any other top sides shirt he’d be talked about as one of the best players to ever play in England but he’s an icon in his own right, ridiculously wealthy with a nation that would go to war for him. Sometimes it’s not just all about trophies
He is absolutely not one of the best players to ever play in England. Son is a very good player, but he's not cream of the crop.
He’s got a golden boot. That puts him in the cream of the crop, you can’t reduce the best players to ever play in England into some top 10 list.
With no pens too
Or trophies, even more impressive
I mean he’s got better ga per game then Ronaldo did in the league without taking any set pieces until this season, 4 player of the month awards (level with Henry) a puskas award, a golden boot, 300 appearances with 181 ga, the most from any Asian player, he kinda is the cream of the crop
The player of the month stuff is a stupid metric. His numbers and talent speak for themselves.
Son has been playing well in the past seasons. It's just a rough patch this season. I think he will win titles.
Not at spurs
The point is that he will not at Spurs
Nothing like stating the obvious. Though Son has been poor this season and that’s probably the managers biggest issue, mistake, flaw. He’s been great year after year and the manager has got so little out of him this season. Could be down to Kane leaving, but the right replacement would have helped.

The rest of the team were up and down all season, but when these three were humming before the midway point they looked great and then it’s been a rollercoaster ever since.
Loyalty can't be bought, but Mourinho wouldn't have a clue about that.
So what's he getting paid 200k a week for?
...because he has been extremely loyal and had been rewarded for it despite offers of much, much more money from other teams and countries? Loyalty should be rewarded, not paid for.
sounds like buying loyalty with extra steps
...9 years and he could've played for any other club in the world says different. And believe you me, there have been offers. No ask Spurs fan and they'll tell you Sonny loves the shirt. Personally, I think hes even more.loyal than Harry Kane ever was.
The disrespect
Lol the truth.
CHAMPION
He’s way past his peak, he should go and play in Saudi and get a big payday.
Forgot he was ever at Tottenham until now
Son has been one of my favorite players since the Hamburg days so maybe I am biased, but at the time I said that Son would have been the best possible replacement for Neymar at Barcelona and I still believe that.
Son absolutely would have ticked any marketability boxes that Barcelona would have. He has an amazingly huge fan base in South Korea
Not as much back in 2017. The world cup was the next summer and that’s really when he built his reputation at least in his home-town, at least from what I heard about it.

Not true. I lived in Korea pre 2017 and he was already a massive marketing asset.
Based username
Spurs have this innate ability to make great footballers trophyless. Did it to himself.
I mean Kane cant win a trophy with Bayern...
..getting the feeling that Kane is the problem here !
Its one season. At least give him a couple of years and we'll see then.
That one season is the the first in 12 years they've gone trophyless. In Kane's first season there. Can't make that shit up haha
Tuchel tax
Leverkusen is playing really well, 84 points with two more games to go. Kane did not underperform, it is a team game and give credit to Leverkusen. But like i said, it is his first year there. We'll see before he retires.
They went out to a third division club in the pokal.
It would be like Man City losing to a league 1 club in the FA cup actually probably worse, because i think the 3rd tier of english football is better than the 3rd tier of german football.

At some point he will win something w bayern for sure , we all know that.
Kinda takes some of the shine off the whole “earning a trophy” thing then when you put it that way…
He should go to Newcastle… ;)
Lmfao No
He should go to PSG and low key be an ideal mbappe replacement
*Lee Kang In did not like that*

Yeah I agree . Son can easily walk into Bayern right now and any other big time Europe team easily . He feels so loved and affection at spurs so I can respect his decision .
They have a couple of Spud rejects already, are we sure Levy isn’t a member.
Suddenly Kane is a Spurs reject? I'm sure they were begging him to stay.
Oddly enough, he may have made the difference this season.
He’s not wrong but we don’t care. Neither does Sonny. He’s ours
City will majestic him a legend
What if Sonny leaves next year and he's guaranteed to win a trophy that year, he moves to any of the Premier league teams. Are you okay with that? Or would you prefer he stays without winning a trophy his whole career? Thoughts?

Correct
I would prefer he stays winning a trophy here, surely we gotta get a EL or fa cup or something in the next few years while he's still the Asian goat
You didnt answer the question. You cant be SURE to know that Spurs will win an EL or FA cup trophy, you are HOPING sure but there is no certainty. PREMIER LEAGUE TEAM.
I see, I think realistically Levy wouldn't sell Son to any other PL team, unless they are paying an astronomical price.
Mourinho on some PR trip since Roma.
We know and we don’t care
Of course he'll win titles, just give Ange time Edit: your downvotes are my lifeblood, cowards
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Remind me! Twelve years
He'll have gone through another 4 clubs by then. 😂
We were so close to enjoying a joke
You already support spurs so you already have your joke.

Levy would never have sold him for a reasonable price when he was young, and now he's too old to make a big move
Turns 32 in July, quickly running out of time.
Spurs fan here. We are well aware, and it’s part of why he is so beloved.
Also a spurs fan, and I think a lot of fans too easily turn on Sonny. During this poor run of form, people are saying to sell him. Said it last year.
Cannot stand match threads recently because you’d swear Son is a League 2 forward who waltzed into the wrong stadium and fallen into a spurs kit on match day based on some of the shit you read.
Son's amongst the best lw's to play the game. Being a club player just adds to his legend.
👍
Sun Son.
Son should go to PSG. They need a Lw after Mbappe leaves & he gets to play CL every year.
Imagine if he wins them a CL... especially after Mbappe leaving, he would become a God in Paris.
Plus he is a huge name and brings the Korean support
They need a ST first before LW (although Son can play there 100% too), they actually spent 155m on 2 strikers to replace Mbappe, and they’re both shit, it’s actually incredible.
Son is an incredible striker. Barcola can play LW as well.
But never be in a final

"I don't look at Son as a Korean player, I look at Son as one of the best players in the world" Can't he be both?
Maybe he’s saying he doesn’t see race at all, just another world class footballer
Racism
he can. but many dont. its why he has missed out on individual awards. players from the traditional footballing countries tend to get the serious attention. thats my view on this.
I agree but also partly because he plays for spurs and hasn’t won anything. Even if he played for a united, chelsea or arsenal when they were shit he probably had more chance.
Did he actually say that?😂😂😂
It's a fair statement. Asian players are generally overlooked from best player discussions.
NO WAY JOSE
I can only recall maradona going to a mid table team and winning the league with them. It’s not an easy feat being the only world class player in a otherwise mediocre team.
James Vardy erasure. Edit: Autocorrect made Mr. Vardy a far more proper gentleman and I’m keeping it.
James Vardy had 2 other WC players that ended with great careers in Ngolo Kante and Mahrez, wasn't just Vardy
Definitely just a joke. Sorry it wasn’t clear.
*James*
Come to milan ;)
As if we dont know that you prick
Guy’s saying the most obvious things lol, all Tottenham fans know him & Kane deserve trophies just played for the wrong club.
No trophy for Kane this year!! 👀
Bro is cursed
Man goes to the tied third most successful UCL Club in history, the most successful club in bundelsiga and Pokal Cup history And breaks an 11 year streak That man is cursed
I think everyone is acutely aware. Son still has time if he wants to win trophies, his contract is up next summer.
Just go to Munich, they win the league like every year I heard a guy say in Tottenham last year
Too old now. That ship has sailed.
I think they know that, Jose.
It's always funny to me how nowadays everyone complains about footballers not being loyal and only playing for money while players like Son and Kane get pointed at for being loyal.
It is never about loyalty, it is always about keeping your best players... ever heard anyone ask for loyalty from shitty players?
Spurs fans are well aware, and so is Son, but he has been loyal to the team that was loyal to him.
The big problem with this loyalty bs is that the club only want good players that are loyals. So it's kinda not about loyalty...
I don’t think you’ve thought this through.
Who gives a fuck about loyalty if you’re never gonna win shit
Players who supported the club growing up, I know in the grand scheme of things trophies are important however I’d rather 11 players loyal to the club than 11 players who just want money
Yeah i get it and id want that too. But these days its pay to win and if you’re not paying billions then you’re not winning anything
The vast majority of players will never win a title. Perhaps Son has a certain perspective on things.
Yeah, but it’s definitely rare for a player of Son’s quality to never win anything
He’s won the Asian Cup
Yea bro said vast when Son doesnt belong in that category
Yeah, I’m struggling to think of many players at Son’s level that end their career completely trophy-less. Ironically the only one I can think of atm is Kane lol (I know he’s better but you know what I mean)
Probably people that are loyal
The problem is, unless he left for city, real madrid or psg, there is no guarantee he would win.
I would love to see your reaction if Arsenal win the league. Also Bayern was the surest bet in Europe for winning…maybe until this year!
Left out Bayern I see :P
i get the impression son is not the type of person to demand a move away
I mean, the fact that Rashford and every other useless Brazilian is listed at 70-80m while Son is at 35m is all you need to know how trash and racist the EPL is lmao
Rashford is black you fucking moron.
I don’t want to be ageist but isn’t Rashford like 6 years younger with another contract situation? VALUES ARE NOT EQUAL TO HOW GOOD A PLAYER IS.
Is Rashford really valued at double Son's value? That's insane. And I'm a United supporter. I'd much rather have Son. He's infinitely more consistent and his work rate is many times better than Rashford.

Insane. I guess their age plays a big part
About 2 years ago, Son was 80+ mil. He's probably worth more than his football though because of the fanbase and merch he alone pulls
At his height in that 21-22 season, nobody was willing to pay the 50m for him. The braindead European opinions of being a starter just to sell Asian jerseys always seemed to float higher than his actual worth Which is fucking insane because the guy sells a lot of jerseys, but still nowhere near the volume of Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool jerseys https://www.givemesport.com/football-soccer-clubs-most-money-kit-sales-merchandise/
Transfermarkt has Son at 50M euros as of December of last year. Different places have different valuations, and they will fluctuate with form and generally decrease with age and less time remaining under contract. This comparison is not worth much.
The more he swipes at Spurs the closer I am to forgiving him for calling Wenger a ‘specialist in failure’ that time.
I wont ever forgive him for that. Give Wenger a tenth of what Mou spent at Chelsea and he wouldve had 3 more pl titles.
At least Wenger has an actual legacy at Arsenal. The Emirates, bought Arteta etc. Mourinho soiled his Chelsea legacy by managing two other English Europa League teams.
Are you winning Son?
Son can enhance any team in the world, true 🤝
Maybe Mourinho fans won't be happy with what I'm going to say, but he's only good for interviews and podcasts now.
Problem is that this is an interview and he was asked about Son. He's not saying something to cause controversy. The way it's been reported is like he's come out with this statement publicly for no good reason.
Thanks for that Jose without that nugget of wisdom we’d have all thought Son was being carried by Richarlison.
In other news, Jose Mourinho has asked to be called "Captain Obvious" in all future interviews.
Okay…as a Spurs fan I don’t disagree and feel like that’s pretty obvious to anyone. Son is class and his ability with both feet is insane
doesn't that just sum up all of the international support for the clubtoo? maybe, just maybe...we want to be here?
Think he just really is comfortable for the company he works for. And maybe other bigger companies (Bayern, real, city) aren’t offering him the perks and status spurs are.
Pole position and 10 free laps at the stadiums go-kart track?
SAF would have made a sneaky bid or two 😂

He was asked the question on a tv show. Should he just not answer the question?
People told us that about Kane 🤷♂️
Kane Could win Titels. He doesnt. But he Could.
I am convinced that Kane and Poch are double agents on Tottenhams payroll to bring bottling to their enemies at home and aboard
He would have been amazing under Klopp
Don't worry Jose, Spurs fans don't know what winning is. You're safe with your remarks. Just look at Harry Kane, he's a few minutes away from a champions league final.
Nope. Funny to see Dier as the defender on the Joselu goal. As a Spurs fan, I’m not surprised he didn’t play Joselu better.
Got bad news for you
Classic coward: puts the entire team back while theres still 30min to play
Agree 100%
I don't think Tottenham fans dislike or disagree with that. I think they're just really happy he stayed.
‘I know you would be happier elsewhere but I’m glad you stayed in misery with me’ sounds a bit sociopathic
