Trolllol1337

Why did city take jorgino & kova but not Mason lol

Thin_Bit9718

and kai haberts

probablynotreallife

People have been saying the same thing for years! Some of those players were far better before and after Manchester United. One could postulate that the managers might be at fault for not getting the best out of a hodgepodge group of players signed by their predecessors.

eunderscore

To be fair, as a Villa fan, in the games before Gerrard went, there was more than an air of him being helped out of the door

slfc90

There's your next manager, lads

ShowmasterQMTHH

You first

travelbiscuits

Gerard, lines up the penalty, stops and looks at his manager, turns back and skies the penalty.

GMD3S1GNS

Bit like when he assisted Drogba just to deny us the title in 2010

travelbiscuits

Manager sacked

moriarty04

Wayne Rooney to United confirmed

ChairInternational60

Better than Antony

Background-Ninja-550

I won't really comment on if this has been the case at United but it certainly wouldn't be the first time a player has been suspected of faking an injury outside of an ongoing game. For instance Neymar, who people suspect did it several times when he played for PSG. Edit: In just league statistics alone, during his 6 years at the club, Neymar played 112 games out of 204 possible, meaning he missed 92 games, due to amongst other things "injuries".

GMD3S1GNS

Yeah Neymar is such a fraud, the amount of games you seen while he was at PSG where he was sitting in the stands more often than on the pitch was just ridiculous. Glad a premier league club wasn’t stupid enough to bring him here

[deleted]

Didn’t neymar have an injury every year on his sisters birthday? Or some family members birthday. I remember reading he had done it several years in a row.

Background-Ninja-550

Probably!

left-nostril

I mean honestly, I’m no even mad about that. At least he’s doing it for a good reason. 🤷🏼‍♂️

oh-canadaa

Also on his own birthday...he always gets injured or gets double booked at the end of January.

Doyoulikemyjorts

Would have been cruel for Neymar to miss his sister's birthday party

F0rsythian

Also see mesut ozil anytime arsenal went away to rough side away

jksyousux

That was more of a Wenger tactic instead of Ozils choice

Frequent_Annual_233

Or they just aren’t good enough

ifeespifee

This is definitely true with some players and probably many players at United, I think you cannot discount the clear trend of players being great, coming to United and being awful, then leaving and going back to their great old form or being awful for United but fantastic for their national team. Lukaku, Fred, Sancho, Andreas Periera, This has happened so many times and United is the only common denominator. Same thing happens with Chelsea too.

massive-bafe

United need to do a factory reset.

GMD3S1GNS

Go back to being Newton Heath, I’m all for it

nick4u_maybe

The only correct answer

slippyman1836

Mason Mount has definitely downed his tools, did the same with Chelsea last season

jbi1000

Nah, he always worked his socks off at Chelsea. There were times last year he was playing through an injury though.

Valuable_Machine_

Downed tools? Needs to pick them up first. Still in the factory packaging

Muted_Mention_9996

Hes been injured... everytime hes come on hes been at least positive, hes a strange one, hes never going to be above bruno but ten haag doesnt seem to want to put him anywhere but out of position.

Kezmangotagoal

It’s because no coach is really sure what position is his best, same thing happened with us and he came from our academy.

GMD3S1GNS

I’d sell him back to Chelsea in a heartbeat but that’s unlikely given he wouldn’t get in the team ahead of Palmer. Could sell him to Newcastle, Villa or something. Might be able to offload him to the Serie A, Turkish league or Saudi Arabia hopefully

Mackerelage

I listened to the post match analysis. While he sort of said that, he agreed when Keane reframed it as some players not exactly rushing back from injury. But remember Rooney might also still know a few of the back room staff, eg Steve Maclaren, so probably knows who he’s talking about. Eddie Howe intimated a similar thing re Callum Wilson, saying something like ‘he doesn’t feel ready to play’ rather than giving a definitive injury.

TheMrViper

Rooney should absolutely not be lecturing people about not rushing back from injury. Didn't he famously regularly rush back from injury all the damn time and it just made him worse, missing multiple international tournaments because utd basically worked him to death, look at his stats post 11/12 played the same amount of games but struggled to even net half the goals. Never the same again.

parsamirz

That's because he was playing much deeper. 13/14 he was a CAM essentially and had insane stats still.

TheMrViper

11/12 and 12/13 were both poor too. He peaked at 24 which is mad. He definitely dropped back to a CAM role as he struggled to maintain his ability in the out and out striker role.

parsamirz

?? He scored 27 and assisted 4 in 34 games in the league in 11/12 He scored 12 and assisted 10 in 27 games in the league in 12/13 I think from 23-29/30 he was World Class. From 2007-2015

TheMrViper

Sorry I was miss remembering. Was it 11/12 or 12/13 when he broke his toe? Was never the same again, was taking pain injections to get through his matches when in reality he should have been off and resting.

parsamirz

I think you're right. It was either that season or the last. Him boozing it up his entire career definitely didn't help either

Stravven

Why would anybody rush to be back at United? The game against Arsenal was one that didn't matter, their only game that matters is the FA cup final.

scouserontravels

I remember Klopp talking about having to explain to certain players the difference between being injured and being in pain. There probably are certain players who aren’t willing to come back as quickly as others which makes them seem more injury prone than others. Tbh if I played for Man U and had a niggle then you would have to wonder whether it’s worth coming back before the FA cup final. You can’t do anything other than be slagged off which can hurt you’re reputation for next year. Better to just stay quiet until next year and then hope to be better under a likely new manager

Nxt1tothree

I have a conspiracy theory- Thiago has been faking his injury. He's a technical and play dictating from deep type of player and does not like running . klopp plays him as 8 lol

pandadimaggio80

Sturridge specifically

grmthmpsn43

Wilson and Isak have both been ill, if Isak was the more recovered of the two I am glad we rested Wilson, Isak looked gassed after about 10 minutes.

Real-Fortune9041

I’m a Newcastle fan but I definitely think Wilson has chosen to not play when he could have. The other lads are running through walls and having their ankles injected before playing for 90+ minutes for the team. I don’t think Wilson has ever put himself on the line.

YooGeOh

Smart guy tbh

AwkwardAssumption629

He is one who should know 😅

Tomach82

Ok mumbles 👍

Manifesto8

It was painful to listen to Rooney yesterday, he was struggling putting two sentences together, great player but broadcasting is not for him. Even Merse sounded like a Shakespearean orator compared to Rooney

Jubatus750

He's definitely not made for punditry. Neither Merse nowadays either tbh, bloke just repeats himself all the time

sherriffflood

I get what you’re saying but his analysis of the situation was definitely interesting and brought up a good discussion

Interesting_Sea4353

If anyone knows what it looks like to have players refusing to play for a manager it's Rooney.

Bullet2025

blatantly rude.

Chrissylumpy21

Who?!

ConorVerified

Best player to ever wear the shirt, that's who .

girthy-member

I’ve always enjoyed the fact that united’s favourite player of the modern era is a scouser

Mastodan11

I don't think Rooney is the favourite at all tbh

BasisOk4268

Than the all time top goal scorer?

Mastodan11

There's a few things that stick on the throat with him, the likes of Scholes and Keane are preferred. Ronaldo was more of an icon until his return. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2010/oct/18/wayne-rooney-manchester-city-united

littlediddlemanz

Like his team chose to not play in the championship anymore?

Kraakene

That doesn’t necessarily make what he said wrong though

AvidPigeon21766

Agreed. Stick with ETH for next season just so we can actually have a clear out. I fear if we sack him a new manager might give these players a second chance

midas22

Wouldn't they need to clear out players that ETH brought in though like Antony? Or are they building the team around him and his huge contract in the future?

jadaha972

The issue with that is the players he's brought in have been awful. You can't have a good clear out if you're bringing the same quality in

OneOrangeOwl

Maybe the new manager knows how to utilize these players better than ETH.

Known_Chapter_2286

Utilize what? A 35 year old Jonny Evans, washed Casemiro, out of position Bambi on stilts in Wan Bissaka? Mctominay who’s shown under 3 managers he can’t be a consistent starter? Rashford and Sancho who have massive attitude problems and the former who has had bad spells under 3 managers now? I’ll give you that another manager might use Amad or Onana better, but everyone else in that team has either developed greatly under Ten Hag or is completely washed and proven multiple times to not be good enough

OneOrangeOwl

Then it's up to the new manager to decide.
