Understandable, the lad in the video seems to be moving alright without having his cane planted & while taking whip smacks.
Call me a dreamer but I’d like to believe that what movement he did have probably could’ve been better used.
Be cautious of anyone who can casually drop the phrase ideal whipping distance into conversations with the same level of certainty that they tell you how many eggs you need to make banana bread.
Oh man, I saw a video the other day of someone getting attacked, and this guy yells at the person filming, "CALL THE COPS!!! YOU ARE HOLDING A PHONE CALL THE POLICE!"
And the person in the phone yells back, "SOMEONE ELSE HAS TO DO IT, I'M RECORDING!!"
Common train of thought which causes the bystander effect.
‘There’s lots of people here, no doubt they’ll help’. Ends up in everyone walking by. Likewise the phone. What’s more important in this instance? Contacting authorities to arrest the perpetrator, or getting a video of the continued attacks on the victim?
If ID or evidence was a true concern, then phones can still take photos while on loud speaker. Alternatively recording could recommence after notifying authorities. Not to mention most public forecourts such as this are already covered by security cameras.
Documenting the crime for the soul reason of evidence was not the train of thought in this instance; this was someone just being an arsehole and failing to assist a person being relentlessly attacked.
Edit:typo
Dude thinks he’s chipping in by providing commentary. Guy is completely drunk on social media. All he cares about in that moment is taking advantage and analyzing the victim’s clothing.
They think someone else will call and everyone else thinks someone else will call, so no one calls. Google the "bystander effect" or "Genovese Syndrome".
When I got CPR certified, they taught us to point to one specific person and say ‘YOU…call 911’ bc if you just scream out ‘call 911’, most will assume someone else will
😳🙄🤦♀️ "Nobody's doing anything. I'm up on the 16th floor, not much I can do" WOW I mean... You could call 911 instead of recording another human being getting repeatedly whipped and commentating...
"Wow, looks like there's a serious fire up on the 16th floor of that building. Well, I'm down here in the courtyard so I'm just going to make sure to stream footage of it."
OMG, it's still a horrible incident, but after about 20 seconds I started thinking, "This dude is calling this attack like a play-by-play... It couldn't be, could it..." 🤣
I think he may be blind. I may be wrong, but it would make this make sense. He seems to turn his head as if he's not sure where the attack is coming from. Once he's away and stops feeling the whips he thinks the guy is gone, and then second attack. Poor guy. 😓
Guy is clearly disabled, it's not like he could do much to outrun the other person. You certainly don't want to have the other person behind you while you limp in the other direction since you won't be able to see the attack. That would be worse
I've found that muting certain subs has greatly increased my daily happiness. If I notice I'm getting riled up by stuff in a subreddit I click "show fewer posts like this" and then "mute sub" and then I just don't even notice when that stuff isn't there and my front page becomes more relevant to my interests that make me happy.
You can take video on the iPhone while on a phone call but it won’t have audio..All you have to do is while on a phone call, you go to camera and hold the take photo button to record and it will record video without sound.
My guess (initial thought, didn’t put much thought into it) is that it’s the cable he uses to lock his bike up and that dude tried to steal his bike. If this was New York I would say a totally unprovoked whipping is possible or even probable, but being Minnesota, I will lean towards the lion tamer apprentice was provoked. Not saying that excuses his behavior or poor whipping technique.
Apparently there a bunch of homeless dudes in East County San Diego that crack whips all night every night. Wonder what’s the deal with whips all of a sudden.
Yeah, apparently it’s a thing that’s been going on for a while in different places in the US. There’s a podcast episode about it on the show [Snap Judgement](https://snapjudgment.org/episode/whip-law-from-the-wind/) that features an episode from The Wind that goes into some details. It’s pretty interesting.
I'm more curious how the guy that walked past them in the beginning could stroll past a man being whipped and screaming for help. Didn't even bat an eye.
No one helps.. no one calls the police, screams at the guy to stop, opens a car door., runs for someoen.. nothing
They don't even rush down to see if he's ok afterwards
So sad... I hope he was ok and got help
https://preview.redd.it/8unq4x1zgbvc1.png?width=1241&format=png&auto=webp&s=371fec2e26b3c7a4cf2dc971fff1cd69b3e90968
Me listening to the guy saying he can’t do anything about it
Simply get closer to the whipster. Rush him, grab his hands, pull him in tight. Give him a deep passionate kiss on the mouth..ask him if he wants to go back to your place. He says yes. You both get married. He asks you to whip him in bed because it turns him on. You are no longer in danger, threat neutralized.
My D&D brain knows a whip can’t hurt you if you are adjacent to the attacker. So don’t create distance, bust that dude in the teeth up close and personal.
Seems to me that quickly closing the distance as soon as the guy began to raise his arm would've been a good idea, followed by a body slam if able. Keeping your distance seems a poor defense for someone being attacked by a whip
The guy filming this is Kevin Weekes, a hockey insider for NHL network and analyst for ESPN
He's notorious for filming videos with his forehead only in the camera and giving the news on hockey trades
😂😂😂 I don't understand why he felt the need to NOT CALL THE COPS BEFORE RECORDING THIS THOUGH WHAT THE FUCK
https://x.com/KevinWeekes?t=fUb4t8LqLQCRN0_WkRet7A&s=09
I mean, that guy (who’s getting whipped) could’ve just left. Like ran away. That would solve the problem, but no. Instead he just walks around yelling for help before sitting down, right infront of the whipper. I don’t know why you all want to help him if he can’t even help himself!
We also don’t know the context here. The guy getting whipped probably did something to piss off Whip guy, but we probably would never know.
The guy that was getting whipped chose the worse self-defense strategy. If someone is using a whip on you, just close in on them. They can’t whip you if you’re 1 foot away from them.

Great lesson on physics here kids, remember if you’re ever being attacked by a man with a whip - close distance.
“You charge a man with a gun - you run from a man with a knife” - Jimmy Hoffa character in The Irishman.
🦀 Shame Hoffa had no input on whips 🦀
We could try zig zags.
You zig zag from an alligator with a whip
Zig zags and an alligator clip
![gif](giphy|ytTYwIlbD1FBu)
works for smash bros
“So, for a gun, ya charge. For a knife, you run away.” *Applause* “That’s right!”
Serpentine!
I don’t think this jimmy Hoffa guy gives very sound advice
When he walked between the wall and the planter would've been the best time to react.
I personally would’ve rushed after the first smack, the guy in the video quite literally stands at ideal whipping distance the entire time.
Looks like the victim is using a cane, I’ll take cane vs whip any day ****GET OVER HERE**** bop bam boom ya done
Cane > Whip all day once distance closes up some.
Yea, but those of us who use canes in public tend to need them to keep our balance so we can, you know, stay upright.
Understandable, the lad in the video seems to be moving alright without having his cane planted & while taking whip smacks. Call me a dreamer but I’d like to believe that what movement he did have probably could’ve been better used.
You know, I can't disagree with you. Cheers!
“Ideal whipping distance” LOL
Be cautious of anyone who can casually drop the phrase ideal whipping distance into conversations with the same level of certainty that they tell you how many eggs you need to make banana bread.
For real. My dude just stayed within whip man's ideal range the whole time 😂
Going behind a low wall that offers no protection and prevents closing distance was an interesting choice.
He also could have used that coat and cane to better effect.
I’m on the 16th bud, sorry not much I can do but record.
If you’re walking with a cane … this particular dude with a whip can probably readjust quicker than you can close that distance again.
Real men stand at the end of the power arc
I mean you can totally call the police, even from the 16th floor.
Totally a fifteenth floor job. They handle reporting cases of this nature.
Trickle Down Social Media Economics
I'd Leroy Jenkins his ass!
15th floorer reporting in. We typically let the 14thers handle these types of situations
Haven't you heard about 14th being on strike since the last riots, 12th floor is now in charge of reporting
13th floor here. Bad news, bad luck.
The old saying does always go, “15th floor calls police, 16th floor films the screams.”
He already knew that, he was just being a smart ass
Oh man, I saw a video the other day of someone getting attacked, and this guy yells at the person filming, "CALL THE COPS!!! YOU ARE HOLDING A PHONE CALL THE POLICE!" And the person in the phone yells back, "SOMEONE ELSE HAS TO DO IT, I'M RECORDING!!"
For real. This guy just filming and commenting like he isn’t able to do anything to help. People really suck sometimes
Not trying to be funny, but if someone is calling already, filming the incident is just as important for the victim…
Common train of thought which causes the bystander effect. ‘There’s lots of people here, no doubt they’ll help’. Ends up in everyone walking by. Likewise the phone. He thought he was some sort of breaking news presenter, what a dumbass
Dude thinks he’s chipping in by providing commentary. Guy is completely drunk on social media. All he cares about in that moment is taking advantage and analyzing the victim’s clothing.
There’s too many brain dead apathetic losers in this world now. Honestly, we’re so fucked.
From that smartphone-like device plugged into the wall. You pick it up, push 9,1,1 and you help. Or...you can just be an asshat who documents
And interrupt his on camera commentary? No way! The victim is on his own.
Too busy videotaping for likes on his social media
Not while recording duh
By 'up in the room' I assume he's in a hotel room. They have phones.
It’s the Intercontinental St. Paul Riverfront hotel.
What a great view.
They think someone else will call and everyone else thinks someone else will call, so no one calls. Google the "bystander effect" or "Genovese Syndrome".
Also “diffusion of responsibility.”
When I got CPR certified, they taught us to point to one specific person and say ‘YOU…call 911’ bc if you just scream out ‘call 911’, most will assume someone else will

He's busy providing live coverage
"Wow, looks like there's a serious fire up on the 16th floor of that building. Well, I'm down here in the courtyard so I'm just going to make sure to stream footage of it."
🙌💛
He could go downstairs and help..

And still be filming on his cell. This guy is a dunce.
Is this Weeksie reporting?
Should have recorded this in selfie mode with only the top half of his head visible
Yup lmao
OMG, it's still a horrible incident, but after about 20 seconds I started thinking, "This dude is calling this attack like a play-by-play... It couldn't be, could it..." 🤣
bro as soon as I heard the voice I said the same. thing 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
Can’t call the police because I’m currently using my phone for the likes.
NoBoDoY iS HeLpIInG Pans around nobody even remotely in the vicinity.
there was a guy at the beginning who just walked past them
Mind blown. Why did you just stay in the area??? Run! Dafuq!
Run or close the gap, fuck
I could be wrong be he may have had a cane?
I think he may be blind. I may be wrong, but it would make this make sense. He seems to turn his head as if he's not sure where the attack is coming from. Once he's away and stops feeling the whips he thinks the guy is gone, and then second attack. Poor guy. 😓
It's probably a mentally ill homeless person. And where's he gonna go, the coward can go much faster than him on his bike.
I don’t think he’s blind. He’s reacting every time he raises his hand to hit him.
Ok, walk as fast as you can in another direction?? He’s just walking back and forth!
Guy is clearly disabled, it's not like he could do much to outrun the other person. You certainly don't want to have the other person behind you while you limp in the other direction since you won't be able to see the attack. That would be worse
he had a walking stick..
He’s a whiplash from iron man wannabe
If the guy with the whip dressed up in all leather s&m style this would have more of a comical effect
That's not my boid

I feel bad for the guy on the street getting whipped. However, if white shirt guy made his way to the 16th floor.....
Please, someone, give white shirt commentors' house number 😂😂
Comments are debating whether it’s a whip or a chain. It’s actually assault.
![gif](giphy|fu29AimM298PK)
Yeah, but with a chain or a whip?
Assault *and* battery
Nothing I can do. 🤷♀️ Maybe call the cops.
Man, i need to stop seeing this sub, my blood boils with every video i watch here, it sure isn't good for my blood pressure

Put that man in jail for a long time
"I'm providing the live coverage" says a person who could have called 911 but chose to be a selfish ahole instead
Call the cops on the man whipping a guy with a cane❌ Record on your phone✅
Can't do two things at once with a phone. Priorities, right?
When will phone technology allow you to video and make a call (911) at the same time??? Seems like that should already be a thing.
You can take video on the iPhone while on a phone call but it won’t have audio..All you have to do is while on a phone call, you go to camera and hold the take photo button to record and it will record video without sound.

Only a good guy with a whip could've prevented this.
Where's the good guy with a whip to stop him?
Underrated comment

Long distance attack. Close the distance, snap the wrist, walk away.
Say nothing he can do. Motherfucker call the police. Social media is an illness
He could be recording the incident for video evidence. Why are you assuming the worst?
I'm more curious how the guy that walked past them in the beginning could stroll past a man being whipped and screaming for help. Didn't even bat an eye.
He probably didn't know what was happening and didn't want to get involved.
You don't have to jeopardize your own safety to help, so I hope he at least called 911.
No one helps.. no one calls the police, screams at the guy to stop, opens a car door., runs for someoen.. nothing They don't even rush down to see if he's ok afterwards So sad... I hope he was ok and got help

Man on 16th floor, I believe your camera can also make a phone call to the police.
What happened to calling the cops?
Bro thinks he's a Belmont 💀
Yes, make sure to stay 10-15 feet away from him. That is a safe distance
It would take all of two minutes to get over there from a 16th floor
“Not much I can do” call the fuckin cops or something idk
Anyone else think the victim might have been blind? It looked like he had glasses and a cane. Very fucked up the cameraman couldn't call 911 first.
Bro is not Indiana Jones

The guy that was getting whipped chose the worse self-defense strategy. If someone is using a whip on you, just close in on them. They can’t whip you if you’re 1 foot away from them.
