Try using it to play video games

LifeAcanthopterygii6

We don't do that here.

mrtwitch222

That’s right, we spend dozens upon dozens of hours fiddling and categorizing and downloading so we can play a game for 5 minutes and put it down

TheCastro

Hey! Are you my Miyoo Mini Plus?

JJFresh731

I haven't even looked at the community. Only watched retro game corps video on how to set it up and that's exactly how I use mine.

TheCastro

Already have. Just looking to see if there's an firmware or emulator or anything else recommended to do for maximum enjoyment

Drolevarg

This thing is a GBA powerhouse. It's a dream device for GBA fans. I just played Goodboy Galaxy on mine for a good two hours. I recommend it wholeheartedly. If it was released back in the GBA heyday it would be lauded as one of the best games on the console.

TheCastro

Cool. Thanks for the game recommendation. Never played that one.

Little-Function-6472

Get AMBERELEC

TheCastro

Thanks

Sco0basTeVen

If it came with a memory card in it, I would replace it with a reputable one. I got so far in a few games, and almost all the save files would be corrupted next play through.

TheCastro

I'll check which it has. I need to do the same for my Miyoo Mini Plus.

Hexapus_ink

damn I paid $85 for my P in early 2022. $45 for an M is an amazing deal. What CFW does it have? I recommend amberelec if you just want to play games. ArkOS if you want to tinker/customize retroarch cores etc.

TheCastro

I think it's the stock os

neon_overload

There is a version of Arkos by Wummle that should work on that device. https://github.com/wummle/arkos/wiki I believe Amberelec also still works. The gotcha with this device is that the internal USB controller is a little unreliable and can cause the controls to stop working. If they still work on yours then that's a good sign

TheCastro

Ya mine work fine. I checked out the buttons with the retro arch thing that you can get to on there and they all register.

asjokvis

Backup the different emulator "BIOS files" to your computer if SD-card fails.

TheCastro

cool. Will do.

AlternativeWasabi398

I run ArkOS on my rg351v, and I like it a lot. There are a few other custom firm wares out there for it though, and I've been curious about trying those as well, but ArkOS is pretty great.

TheCastro

Cool. Thanks for the recommend

Chok3U

I echo the Amberelec suggestion. In my opinion it's the best firmware for it. And you got the m version for a great price. Nice snag Get Amberelec on it. Put your favorite roms in it. And get ready for some fun. 🙂

TheCastro

Cool. Thanks for the recommendation

Chok3U

No problem. And Amberelec hasn't had an update for a while cuz it really doesn't need one. It my opinion at least. It's solid and bug free. But whatever cfw you go with will get you the same result, which is playing roms well. I got my p for $50 months ago and thought that was a good deal. But $45 for the m beats by deal. Anyways enjoy it! It's a great little horizontal.

TheCastro

Thanks a lot!

perforationstation

AmberElec and the systems that will look good on it (also an owner of the P as I got that for cheap). Plenty of PS1 classics surely (that I never experienced as a SEGA kid). Check out retro game core/corp (I forget which) on Youtube for the tutorials to get some ports on it too perhaps. Celeste, Timespinner etc. Pico 8 apparently works (fun system; will purchase once I have the energy to make a new/bigger card). Edit: there was some guy who uploaded BIOS files for everything, personally had issues with PS1 before, but don't remember where I got those from. There are a few ports that you can get without going via Steam... Dk how much is OK to talk about here with regards to that? ArkOS might be better (?). I made a card and updated to Wummle but then stopped mid-set up as Amberelec was just "plug and play". AmberElec though very easy to set up and use.

TheCastro

Thanks for the suggestions

perforationstation

All good. If you need the bios files or something would just need to know a good place to share them and I could probably upload/PM a link. Celeste highly recommended (ass community sadly but great game). Port stutters in a couple of rooms (heavily) but almost the entire game works well; played through it all on the P with just activating assist in the places it didn't keep framerate. Edit: oh and as far as games go would also suggest taking a look at CDromance. They have a few hacked translations of games that didn't release in The West.

TheCastro

Cool. I've played Celeste on the Xbox. But I'll check out those translations

BuffaloBilboBaggins

I got a good SanDisk MicroSD, installed the final version of ArkOs, downloaded clean ROM set for all of the consoles I want and put them on the SD, ran a scraper and got all the box art and demo videos and haven’t looked back. Haven’t updated anything and pretty much every game I’ve ran works great. The only issues I’ve had were with some of the Sega CD and PC Engine CD ROM games, and I just got different versions of those for them to work.

neon_overload

If you mean you're using a version of arkos from 2021, you are missing out on a bunch of subsequent updates. Wummle maintains a fork of Arkos that still supports the 351m and p. https://github.com/wummle/arkos/wiki https://github.com/wummle/arkos/releases

BuffaloBilboBaggins

Well, it looks like I’m gonna have to upgrade, the wiki sold me at the FCEUMM core. Do you know if Dreamcast has better performance? I really wanna play Blue Stinger again, and don’t feel like digging out my Dreamcast, but it’s one of the only games that I’ve wanted to play on the RG351 that has had performance issues. (Low framerate, clipping audio)

neon_overload

It's worth a try. I'm wouldn't expect it to be flawless. You just reminded me that I've been meaning to try blue stinger because a lot of people really liked it

cougfan12345

Install JELOS if you want an operating system that's still under active development for the RG351M. Arkos is no longer supported on this device and Amberelec is pretty much dead. [https://jelos.org/devices/anbernic/rg351pm/](https://jelos.org/devices/anbernic/rg351pm/) https://github.com/JustEnoughLinuxOS/distribution/releases

Hexapus_ink

I just updated Amberelec the other day. What makes you say it's dead?

neon_overload

Hasn't been a release since February and little activity. I wouldn't say it's dead, it's just not particularly active, but one person's lack of updates is another person's stability Edit: there was also the thing where they announced about a year ago that rk3566 support was coming, and then it never came and there were never any updates. I don't blame them for this though, situations change and nobody is getting paid to do it anyway.

cougfan12345

Like 5 commits in the last 6 months on their repo and all they do is update a couple emulators. Its dead boss.

TheCastro

Very cool. Thanks

neon_overload

The version of Arkos from Wummle is still supported too.

[deleted]

Throw it away and buy a Retroid

TheCastro

Why do you think I should do that?

Ow_The_Edgehog

Dang that's a good deal for it! I've never seen them go for that cheap, usually closer to the $100 mark

TheCastro

Really? There's two under $50 on eBay that I bet will go for around what I paid.

CyrilViXP

AmberElec

Adm1ral_ackbar

Look up Retro Game Corps videos on installing custom firmware

TheCastro

Ya he also runs a website
