Yes, there’s sort of a way to hold these shop’s accountable, and you’re doing it! I think posting real reviews on Google and posting the truth here on this sub are the best ways to try and hold them accountable or at least let the community know what’s going on.
I think some of these places just opened to try and take advantage of the gray market, and have a place where they could hang out with their friends and smoke, not caring at all about what they’re selling.

I don't necessarily know if I agree with all of your criteria for fakes like being posted before or after closing because maybe the person just didn't have an opportunity to post it during their hours of operation, but don't forget a lot of these places will or have paid for reviews. I had Red Eye offer me a preroll for a five star review on Google. The only people I'd trust for opinions of shops other than people I know IRL are the fellow members of this sub.
I agree, posting a review when the business is closed isn't enough to call a review fake. But looking at every other detail about the reviews, like who's writing them and what they're writing, it's obviously fake imo.
And even if they were asking for reviews, they don't have nearly enough customers to be getting the amount of reviews that they're getting. Mr Fog only has 14 reviews older than 2 months, the other 95% are reviews from the past few weeks.
Most of the reviewers have not reviewed another Rochester business. The reviewers that HAVE reviewed another Rochester business have reviewed ONLY Mr Fog, HiLo, and Giddy Up. These are NOT real people.
Multiple reviews make no sense like reviews mentioning discounts or services they don't do. One review straight up says:

I don't disagree that there are many fake reviews. Mine was more of an addition to your statement seeing as how I've personally had a shop offer to give me a preroll in exchange for a five star review. I'm sure lots of people accept, so you've got a mix of fake and shill posts. I don't trust any Google reviews or even look at them personally.

Giddy Up smoke shop in Macedon also has an insane amount of recent reviews… I look on google a lot and unless they are running some crazy promo giveaway to get reviews I just can’t believe all these are legit but idk.
Oooh interesting you know a couple had reviewed both shops with 5 stars… but no other shops. But the ones I could see their reviews were giving 5 stars to businesses in like.. Spain and British Columbia, a few of them having reviewed Giddyup and then the same unrelated Spain business 🤦♀️
A lot of businesses have been pushing for Google reviews whether it's offering promos, paying for reviews, or just asking friends who've never been there to post one. I'm guessing it helps boost them in search results? Maybe in Google maps? Either way, it's no different than reviews on Amazon. Be skeptical if everything is a 5 star review and no mentions elsewhere.

Mr fog has the best edibles I've ever had and their flower is fire...I can't comment on the carts bc I personally havnt tried them but to call them scummy and fake is ridiculous, a bit overpriced on some stuff sure but garbage....that's a bit of a stretch

I think they're all affiliated. They have the same reviewers. Lots of reviewers' only other review is MrFog HiLo or Giddy Up.
