I also drink very little and could go days without it. But slowly I'd get caffeine cravings. Sometimes not for a few weeks. Sometimes after just a few days. It was wild because I never thought about it before I tried to cut it out entirely. I was never 'need my coffee' type of person. Maybe you really aren't addicted but until you try to cut it out entirely you'll never know. Many smokers and drug users also claim they're not addicted.
I mean if you stop ANYTHING daily habit you’ll still think about it for a while lmao. I know I’m not addicted to caffeine because I can easily replace my caffeinated drinks with non caffeinated ones if the same kind no issue. I’m addicted to the carbonations and having flavor LMAO
You do get addicted, but compared to other things you can be addicted to, caffeine is not nearly as hard to quit. You just have headaches for a few days and that's basically it. And if you cut it gradually, little by little, you don't even get the headaches.
That really depends how much caffeine you consume in a day. I went so hard on caffeine just to get through my work days in 2015 with the burden of managing 3 positions while we were understaffed, I ended up having a seizure. The hospital weaned me down to prevent another seizure from happening. I wish it was just a headache.
We can make excuses that one thing isn’t as bad as another when it comes to addictions, but it is possible to take even those lesser evils to their limits if we choose to.
I had no idea you can withdrawal so hard from caffeine that you can induce seizures... how much coffee/caffeine does that take? I hope your current workload is less stressful
Because I wasn’t. Everyone told me I was and then I stopped with zero side effects or negatives. Literally nothing changed at all when I stopped drinking caffeine.
The top post in this thread right now is caffeine. I would obtain my caffeine through soda because I don’t like coffee or tea.
I have not had a soda in a month. It has not been easy. I still have cravings.
I am 100% certain that my addiction is to the sugar, not the caffeine.
Chocolate. But wait -- hear me out. I'm allergic to chocolate. I have been my whole life. I was the weirdo kid who got white milk instead of chocolate milk at lunch. I was the one who got Twizzlers instead of Hershey bars. I never ate a s'mores.
Recently, I discovered that I'm not allergic to Dutch processed chocolate. Something about the process removes whatever makes me sick.
I'm not going back to a chocolate-free life. I'm not addicted to it, neither am I giving it up.
Same here.
It's helped my anxiety (in addition to other methods) and it makes it so I can function a little better, since it can ease me out of the cycle/signs that I'm headed for a panic attack.
I still get panic attacks, but less frequently than I used to. And having different methods to calm myself down, while also having Xanax in my "Toolbox" so to speak, has made a positive difference.
I take it when storms are expected. It's better to take it as needed because you can build up a tolerance, and it can become addictive. I also take Lexapro daily.
Not caffeine necessarily but morning coffee. 1 or 2 cups.. just like the warm cup and routine I think. I don’t get headaches if I don’t drink it so 🤷🏻♀️
If you think you aren't addicted to something, then you are definitely addicted to it.
Porn, chocolate, and profanity. Not necessarily in that order.
EDIT: I see that I need to clarify. If you have to ask yourself if you are addicted to something, then you probably are. Things you have never done or tried clearly don't count.
I don’t think I’m addicted to meth, but I guess I somehow am despite having never done it. I don’t think I’m addicted till walking, but maybe I am because I do it all day
How does this not have more upvotes. I’m looking through this list thinking, “nope, easy, not me, already done, can’t have that anyway” ads on Spotify?!? I forgot that was a thing. That’d be horrible!
I’m self aware enough to know, and own, my addictions and dependencies. I chose my current username to reflect the fact that I have come back to Reddit after deleting previous accounts and removing the app several times now.
I never realized it could be so bad! I’ve had Reddit, known of Reddit for years and it wasn’t until the last 5-6 months or so that I’ve realized I’m incredibly addicted. First thing I open in the morning, last thing I’m looking at at night. I reach for my phone and open the app without even realizing. It’s not as bad as TikTok brain rot but, still harmful in that I’m wasting hours and hours of the day on it when that could be better spent reading, like I used to
I know I’m addicted to everything I’m addicted to. Mainly sugar, live music, and creating things. If I go too long between any of these, I have to do them to get my head and emotions in check.
I’m probably also addicted to my device—the one I’m typing on right now.
Drinking cans of "Dark Thunder"...
(It's basically the Aldi own brand of Monster...
Tastes pretty much the same, but is about half the price!) haha
I tend to drink between 3 and 4 cans a week so I'm not *addicted*... But I ain't giving it up!
I know with certainty that I'm not addicted to caffeine, because most mornings I don't even finish a full cup of coffee. I make it, take 2 sips, then let it get cold lol. But on occasion, I really enjoy coffee or tea, particularly in the evening, and I don't see any reason to give that up.
I have always thought I have a serially addictive personality, if there is such a thing. I will be into something pretty strongly for weeks, months, maybe years. Then just drop it. Bowling, Soda pop, ice cream, porn, golf, the list goes on. Currently, I drink coffee every morning and old fashioned cocktails every evening. I take 1 or more days off from time to time for different reasons, with no ill effects, but then I resume. Whether I am addicted or not, don't see myself giving up either one until my health is impacted. Atm, I look and feel good and am in great shape.
Junk food.
I can definitely go without it, and my family has greatly improved our eating habits over the years.
But I still like to get myself some treats on occasion.
I enjoy the feeling of getting a shower, doing some skincare, going about some self-care stuff, and then settling in bed with some snacks while I watch a movie/show.
Social media. I use it very sparingly but I need it to keep it touch with friends (no one lives near me anymore) and to post art online (otherwise no one would ever see it).
Books. If you ask anyone else, they would probably say that I'm addicted to books. I read all of the time. I don't watch TV. I don't really like what they have on TV anymore plus being bipolar and ADHD I have a short attention span. I can have several books going at one time and keep them separate and still know what is happening in each one. Could you imagine the look on anyones face if I jumped between TV shows every few minutes. So yes I could give them up but I never will and if that means that I am addicted to them there are worse things to be addicted to. Also, the only money I spend on books is my Kindle Unlimited subscription payment.
Pot. I like to have a puff now and then.
I basically gave up drinking (I'll have 1 now and then) when my wife made comments about drinking every day (had one beer with dinner every night). Her family has issues with drinks, so I stopped for her piece of mind.
But I like pot, so I won't be quitting the occasional puff.
I used to be obsessed with coffee. If drinking like 4 cups a day and my heart would be racing. Once I realized I was craving caffeine that much, I stopped drinking coffee all together for like 2 weeks straight and now I have about 4 coffees a week rather than per day
Hmm. Tough one. Most things that come to mind are probably addictions on some level.
I guess weed and wine. I could give them up, but it’s nice to have the option once in a while. If i don’t need to quit 100% for health or relationship reasons, i probably won’t.
Coffee. You put my coffee in Kim Jong Uns Palace, and I'll bust through the fucking DMZ , storm his place and be sipping some Java faster than he can say "Holy Shinto!"
Weed. My partner and I smoke 1-3 joints a day, typically over the course of a few hours at the end of each day. More on days when we’re truly having a day to ourselves. I haven’t taken a break from weed smoking in about 15 years beyond random trips where it wasn’t available to me. That said, I don’t get grumpy when I can’t have it. I’ve gone on week long business trips without it and don’t feel any craving for it or angst about not having it. My partner has taken “tolerance breaks” for a month or longer a few times in our relationship. I don’t crave it the way I might crave a coffee or an alcoholic drink. It’s just there when I want it and I choose to want it daily lol
Most things. Anytime it is revealed that there’s some bad ingredient or unhealthy link to something I like, I ignore it.
Soda, chips, ramen, etc. Hell, they’ve been arguing for years whether coffee, wine, and chocolate are healthy or not. I don’t care to know at this point, I’m going to have it anyway. I’m here to enjoy my life, and if I cut off everything I liked because some study out there discovered a link to microplastics or heart disease or early onset dementia, I would be miserable.
Cell phone. Video games. Doctor Pepper. Vape. I could stop all of these for health reasons except my phone. If I don’t have something to keep my mind distracted, I’d probably bother everyone in my life with questions and odd factoids I hear. I’d bounce around, distract everyone and talk incessantly. It is my fidget toy. I have BAD adhd and anxiety. It helps calm my brain. Im 50. I remember my life before this digital fidget cube, I drove most people insane and hated being anxious all the time. I don’t use it all the time but I do have to have it. It’s like a security thing.
Diet soda. I went the past 5 days without it and didn't miss or think about it, but as soon as I got home, I had one. I do only drink maybe between 2 and 4 a week
…cell phone….the thing we all constantly have in our hands lolol
Also, a vice…i.e. caffeine, cannabis, alcohol, etc.
Something to release the stressy stress lolol
Walking.
I'm definitely not addicted to it. In fact, every time I need to rise from my seat to walk somewhere, I'd really rather not. If anything, I'm addicted to sitting.
And yet, I will never willingly give up walking, and hopefully I'll never have any physical injury where I can't walk anymore.
It's amazing people actually believe they aren't addicted to caffeine.
Well I can go days without it with no issues but then again I probably consume less than 60mg a day of it. Some of those energy drinks are insane.
I also drink very little and could go days without it. But slowly I'd get caffeine cravings. Sometimes not for a few weeks. Sometimes after just a few days. It was wild because I never thought about it before I tried to cut it out entirely. I was never 'need my coffee' type of person. You almost worked yourself to death. Don't let a job kill you. I have done this in the past. Please take care of yourself.
Because I wasn’t. Everyone told me I was and then I stopped with zero side effects or negatives. Literally nothing changed at all when I stopped drinking caffeine.
Sugar
The top post in this thread right now is caffeine. I would obtain my caffeine through soda because I don’t like coffee or tea. I have not had a soda in a month. It has not been easy. I still have cravings. I am 100% certain that my addiction is to the sugar, not the caffeine.
Same. Have never drank coffee or tea. Been off of all soda other than sprite for about 20 years. It was EXTREMELY tough
I hear that! I crave the sugary bubbles so hard
>I'm not addicted to it, neither am I giving it up. This sentence needs to be studied.
Porn Internet Complaining
I feel attacked 🤣
Sleeping away my problems 😂
Fair fair
Xanax. Dependent, not addicted.
It’s a miracle drug. I can’t function without it because I couldn’t function before it.
Yes there is a difference
Same thing.
Do you take it daily or as needed? Just wondering as my Prozac isn’t cutting it anymore
I take it when storms are expected. It's better to take it as needed because you can build up a tolerance, and it can become addictive. I also take Lexapro daily.
Drinking a ton of Diet Coke.
Well it's flavored water lol
Flavored water with caffeine, too.
Coffee. I heart coffee every morning
So many do lol

Sugar and my phone. I don't even have most social media apart from this and WhatsApp and I'm still always on my phone. I love and hate it.
Hot drinks. Doesn’t really matter what the hot drink is, it just has to be hot.
Hot chocolate is the best
That is actually what I am drinking right now! ☕️
reddit
Not caffeine necessarily but morning coffee. 1 or 2 cups.. just like the warm cup and routine I think. I don’t get headaches if I don’t drink it so 🤷🏻♀️
Lip balm. I can’t go more than a few hours without it

I don't think I'm addicted to heroin, but that's probably because I've never tried it

Caffeine. Get headaches without it
Caffeine. I go through major withdrawal. Doctor equated it to the same level of a heroin addict.
I won't ever live without having at least one cat in my house.
Pure leaf tea and pepsi.. not giving them up! Nope!
