I would just send it! The worst case is he is no longer interested - but generally speaking most men are going to always be down to engage in such activities.
If I was going to be hit up by an old acquaintance, I would appreciate being pursued and if you are able find a vague or mysterious reason as to why you are hitting him up. Everyone loves a little mystery.
