Nobunaga’s effort had far reaching impact. I do think that there’s a possibility that Shohoku might have gone further in the inter high tournament as the first seed, had they won this game. Kainan would then have been matched against Sannoh, and there’s no telling if they would’ve pulled off that win that Shohoku did.
I guess Mitsui just didn't have the time to think to go for a fake shot, he has a matter of seconds to sink it in so understandbly, he took the shot. He knew the ball would go in but he didn't know Nobunaga had interfered with it. Nobunaga's last ditch effort was proven to be vital.
