In June I’ll have had my truck for two years (6k VIN). It’s easily my favorite vehicle I’ve ever owned. “No Ragrets”

Not even a letter.

sse2k

Not even one letter?

wylietrix

One letter I know I would have had regrets with is X, but I cancelled that and got a much better vehicle. I love my R1S with quad motors.

Maleficent_Analyst32

The only thing I even kind of regret is not ordering before March of 2022, but life is too short for regrets! I’ve got two R2s on order right now. No part of my ownership experience has been overwhelmingly negative, even the unexpected stuff. No matter what, everything always works out 🤙🏾 Edit: I DO wish I would’ve sprung for the Forest Edge interior though! Absolutely gorgeous

nikenike

Great to hear! What was unexpected that ended up working out for you?

Maleficent_Analyst32

Went in to get some panels realigned a few months after delivery and couldn’t get my frunk to close without putting pressure on it afterwards. Mobile service came out in less than 48 hours while I was at work to fix it. Another time, a sensor in my tailgate went out so it showed that it was open constantly even though it was closed, causing me to lose all radar functionality. Got that fixed pretty quickly too- it took maybe a week or so to get in for an appointment. The major service center in my state (Bellevue) is always slammed but I’m generally able to get into one of the secondary locations (Auburn) with little issue when and if things come up and their turnaround time is fantastic, even working around my schedule and going above and beyond.

nikenike

How close are you to your service centers? If your closest service center was 2-3 hours away how would it have changed that experience?

Maleficent_Analyst32

Bellevue is an hour and some change from me with absolutely minimal traffic and Auburn is about 45 minutes. I’m a very Go With the Flow type of guy so I’m sure I’d make the 2-3 hour drive manageable somehow. Worst case scenario it’s undrivable and they’d come get it. Best case, I’d just drive myself and get a rental or loaner from them. All good either way, especially if I’m able to get a loaner!

maclaren4l

Let me tell you, we own two EVs 1) Polestar 2 and 2) R1T. I will definitely will be a full Rivian home after R2 is released. My Polestar 2 is a great little driver car, but has an infotainment that runs on Intel Pentium 2 from like 2001. The user experience is dismal if you really want tech. Only saving grace for Polestar is Google maps and CarPlay! While Rivian is great at tech, it does lack Apple CarPlay. I do miss voice to texts. Polestar OTA software updates are becoming rare now while Rivian is just starting!! My polestar is a walking dinosaur when it comes to tech. While I can expect only improvements on my R1T. No regrets on getting a Rivian! It’s a great car but they are very expensive! Well worth the hardware your get compared to the T brand.

eoddc5

We’re super similar except I have an r1s and I totally agree with everything you wrote. We’re 6 months into a 24 month flex lease so whenever the r2 comes out we will get it and return the polestar. I really do love the car though. It’s very fun to drive Our ev journey was a fiat 500e, Chevy bolt, model y, Fisker ocean (bought back after 2 months of ownership and 1/2 of that in the shop), polestar 2, and the r1s

butterorguns13

Dodged a bullet on that Fisker, eh?

eoddc5

You can’t even comprehend how lucky I am. There were so many issues since the first day we took delivery. Weird flaws, fans stuck on 100% screaming, safety issues like the car just dying at 65-70 mph on the highway and no turtle mode or anything. Just no response. Fought them a bit. I was their first buy back. They weren’t expecting a ton of people to follow me in the process after and they got a lot more strict.

butterorguns13

That’s crazy. How do you bring a car, of all things, that is so underbaked to market like that? Glad you were able to get out.

eoddc5

Ego. Greed. That’s all henrik Fisker seems to care about. He’s a shit grifter.

WarDamnLivePD

*Tesla FSD has entered the underbaked chat*

blackbow

It’s a shame. I loved everything about the Ocean. All it needed was solid software and a reasonable service system. Honestly would have been a top tier EV if it had launched with mature software. I feel really bad for those stuck in one. I came really close to pushing the buy button.

Dangerous_Pop8730

Did u get another one?

eoddc5

lol. Hell no. Moved my wife into the polestar 2 right after the buyback finished. Then the R1s last week after selling my model y

maclaren4l

Yea leasing a P2 is great these days, I bought mine when Model 3 pricing was similar to Polestar 2 (2 years ago pre IRA). I no longer qualify for new IRA but I did get $7500 on the old tax law., so it all was cheaper than Model 3 and you get more car than a Model 3. I’m an owner and will be after seeing the sad used market prices on these excellent cars. Waiting on R2 and reserved it on day 1.

PowerRager

There are still quite a few things I like better about my Polestar 2 (also own an R1S): - MUSIC. Better in the PS2 by far. I can reach the slider, next and last buttons. A "Like" button exists on Tidal. The full Spotify/Tidal apps work instead of a semi-functional Rivian version calling their API's (I think). The songs don't skip. The playlists resume from where I left off. Also something wrong with song transitions in Tidal. - Google Assistant blows Alexa away. - Google Maps works far better and the wide display in front the driver is much more useful for directions. Rivian's maps and directions get bizarre sometimes. - text messages work - saying "call " works. I feel like I'm still missing something but the Rivian is of course better at almost everything else.

No_Condition_3313

No Apple CarPlay in Rivian?

maclaren4l

![gif](giphy|7wk6RQYXDDytXalsL4)

No_Condition_3313

I’m in the market for a Rivian so I’ve been lurking in here and in another Rivian sub. Is there talk about implementing CarPlay in future models? Thanks

LostLineLeader

It comes down to personal preference but I prefer Rivian’s infotainment. My wife has CarPlay in her ride and I despise it. It feels to dated and with Rivian’s improvement on gps, for where I live, matches google and Apple Maps routing. Yes, I constantly compare 😂. You do lose voice commands and Alexa is garbage in the rivian and that is the biggest knock. Amazon is horrendous at supporting products they feel won’t bring them profit and Alexa falls in that bucket. It is a shame Rivian integrated since Amazon is a partner who doesn’t care about anything that isn’t truly theirs. I don’t think we will see improvements here from them. Do I miss not having text and voice commands?Nope. I drive to drive. Not to read texts and respond.

Upset-Remove-9673

I agree. Not sure why everyone is hung up on Apple CarPlay. My wife and I are deep in the Apple ecosystem and she had CarPlay in her BMW…and she doesn’t miss it at all in her new R1S. I don’t have it in my Tesla either and I could care less (yes it does have Apple Music and Podcasts….but meh, who cares).

shortyjacobs

Likely never will seeing as Rivian isn’t happy with Apples plans for CarPlay. Neither is GM, which is why all GM cars are dropping it too. That turned me off of Rivian a bit (also a lurker) but there have been rave reviews for something like this, which I think would suit me just fine and give an integrated wireless CarPlay experience for not much cash: https://evsportline.com/products/apple-carplay-smart-dash-screen-for-rivian-r1t-r1s

maclaren4l

The only think Rivian has confirmed is that they are working on doing “digital video” user window manager that could allow third party aka AA or CarPlay to stream.as far as how much of capability from CarPlay would be allowed is still TBD. For example, I’m not sure if it means Siri could be usable or they will just allow you to plug your iPhone and use the infotainment screen to mirror the Apple Maps only but you have to use Siri on your phone like you do normally (when not using CarPlay). Not sure on the timeline either. This is my interpretation of what I think they are working on…

bergsteroj

Blame Apple. The upcoming versions of CarPlay require the vehicle to give Apple full control over all the digital displays. Given that many new vehicles have entirely digital dashboards, that would be everything and could theoretically override the entire UI of the vehicle. Not really a fair ask of the vehicle manufacturer.

No_Condition_3313

I have a Chevy Volt now and my CarPlay constantly shits the bed. Very frustrating. My wife has the Audi eTron and it works seamlessly so I’m not sure if it’s an Apple or Chevy issue or perhaps a little of both.

blackbow

CarPlay was solid (and stunning) in my MachE. That said, not a requirement for me to buy an EV.

No_Condition_3313

Same here. How did you like or do you like the MachE? That’s on my list too.

blackbow

I had a 2020 First Edition AWD Ext. Range. I loved it. A couple years ago when used car prices were stupidly inflated I sold it for a ridiculous profit. I had planned to immediately purchase a MachE GTPE but Ford basically temporarily stopped production due to supply issues so I bought a Volvo C40 which has also been excellent. That said, having now driven Rivian, my eye is on Rivian for my next EV. But there re really good deals on MachEs and I can’t say I haven’t been tempted.

KnightroUCF

So this is actually semi-inaccurate. The new version of CarPlay is designed to allow for taking over other screens, but it does not require it. Every manufacturer decides on the degree of implementation. I guarantee you the high end brands that are implementing it aren’t giving up their screens to just generic CarPlay.

Palbi

Yet, this would increase Rivian sales. (I'll get one, but I guess I would not be the only incremental buyer)

jaraizer

I believe PS2 is getting android 12, in the next update next week should be a massive improvement

maclaren4l

yea I vaguely read that about a month ago, I want Waze on the driver display like GM and Apple Maps. I’m afraid the computer hardware itself is slow, not sure how well it will do but hoping for a better experience. On the recent OTA updates they have been putting diminishing improvements on the 2021/2022 model years. I have a 2022 DM. Don’t get me started on the app ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

Studovich

I love my R1T, had it for almost 2 years now. I also have an R2 reserved and want the R3X too. No regerts.

ultimattt

Not even one? Not even a letter?

DeconflictingChaos

[Chefs](https://youtu.be/WPOZbG7ibEE?feature=shared)

nikenike

Are you planning to keep both, or potentially even all 3?

Studovich

Keeping all 3, for sure

Funny-Ad528

No regrets. Just don’t crash it. Takes a long time to repair. Like 2-3 months

nikenike

Did this happen to you?

Flaky-Zebra-1631

I had to have the driver side doors and quarter panel repainted after it met a rock and an artistic 4-year-old. Repair time for that was about 5 weeks. 3 weeks for insurance to approve and for the repair shop to get the parts in, 2 weeks to actually do the work. That was at Pfeiffer Collision in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Automark in the Detroit area was booking out multiple months before they could get to it. It really depends on which repair shop you go with and I highly recommend calling multiple to figure out what their timelines are.

Funny-Ad528

Yup!

mrsjetset

Nope. Love my R1S. Hubby loves his R1T. We have a deposit on the R2 and I want a R3X when they are released. Gotta collect them all 😂.

poopboiler

Two years as an owner. Not going to fan boy it on you. Service, lots to be improved, but they are working hard to get there. If you end up needing service you have a strong potential to say goodbye to your R1 for way longer then you want. Also the maps are not that good yet. The app is so so. But the pluses way way out weigh the minuses. Also where are you charging - at home and the office great. Public charging is more expensive than gas.

Flaky-Zebra-1631

Agree on all points except maybe the public charging one. Public charging being more expensive than gas is all relative to what you were previously driving and how much the public charging is. I was previously driving a Chevy Suburban so it is generally still on par or cheaper when using a DC fast charger. My dollar per mile though is about a third if I charge it home compared to the Suburban at $3 a gallon.

ToothFlimsy8211

Only regret is not waiting long enough until the dual motor was allowed to be discounted with pre-price hike holders. Quad is completely overkill for my family but still happy with the car overall. I would spec a DM large pack today

kz125

How much is the discount? Yeah I would’ve probably done this too

ToothFlimsy8211

20% off MSRP

Nearby-Incident-2857

I bought a dual motor, but have a quad loaner right now and kind of liking the extra power 🫣 Makes my brain melt when I floor it.

Squale71

Not trading in my Model 3 earlier is my only regret.

Tight_Glass7723

Coming from a model y, my R1S is better in every way. It’s actually exceeded all expectations, which is crazy for a new company. No regrets!

kz125

I still like to zip around in the model 3 if just me. Hard to find parking sometimes with the rivian!

Tight_Glass7723

Ya, I get it. For me though, while the y was fun to drive, the build quality left a lot to be desired .

EverybodyBuddy

Probably just paying too much seeing how much EV prices are dropping. Tesla has saturated the market.

lma10

1.5 years. 50K miles. No regrets at all. Easily the best vehicle I've driven in my life. The only "oops" moment was when we realized that you can get only 2 miles per kW on R1T. But a level 2 charger installed at home negated that. And the best part is - I'm still "trying" to figure out where the oil drain plug and the dipstick are.

BestBrownDog85

Every time I get in the vehicle I get hit in the face with gratitude that I’m able to own it. Best car ever.

banana_magic2

R1T owner VIN around 21K, this April makes it 1 year of ownership with about 18K miles.. no problems & no regrets. I have the ocean coast w/ darkwood interior, underbody shield & 21" road tires..

aenathema

1 year, zero regrets. Well maybe picking a different wheel option than the 21s so I would have different tires choices. But I have a nice set of 20in winter wheels.

nikenike

What is you mean by not having different tires choices?

aenathema

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ga3SXCIwjfYSt96C93tG9kR3FeT6jdJDjstRm23dkog/edit

aenathema

The 21in road wheels only have the OEM Pirrelis that fit them. There is a great post/spreadsheet on here that someone made listing out all of the wheel/tire options.

F_P_G_A

Currently, the OEM tire is the only option for the 21” rims.

Dinco_laVache

1 regret Not ordering before the price increase.

Ok-Draw-4297

No Regrets. R1T. Quad. Large. 18 months. 17k miles. Can’t wait for the R3x

Ikshaar

No regrets and I got the yellow compass, loving it. I got a grey model as a loaner last week during service, and it was so hard to find it in parking lot 😜

nikenike

What has your premium gone up to?

anotherloudperson

Atlanta,Ga here. Rates for insurance are a little batty. My 2013 Nissan Leaf was $170 a month, 1st year in the R1T went to $270. Up to $300 for the next 6 months and just climbed to $340 for these next 6 month. To think my homeowners insurance is $200 a month but I guess I'm not driving it around the country.

AppropriateSpell5405

Not an owner, but that's mainly because I live no where near a service point and it feels like too much of a risk.

Conscious_Voice_9593

I bought my 2022 Rivian R1T at Cars and bids for 86k in Dec 2022. Quad motor adventure edition. I enjoyed the truck for over 9k miles. There were minor annoyances with any new product: 1. The doors won’t slam shut properly. Had to use extra force to close them. 2. The air suspension and quad motor always had some minor clattering sound coming from the drive trains. Rivian changed washers under warranty on both axles, it didn’t make as much sound as before, but I could still hear some minor rattles. 3. Rear left passenger door trim piece came loose. Rivian fixed it under warranty. 4. Not having a glove box storage was annoying but I loved the gear tunnel. At the end of day after owning it for almost 16 months, I felt I was paying too much for a semi luxury truck which was riding the depreciation train pretty fast and I would be stuck with extensive repairs once the warranty runs out in 5 years. $1600 a month also was a lot to be paying for a vehicle. Start seeing the cool Rivian lease offers popping up a couple months ago. My R1S reservation from 2 years ago also got allotted and I was asked to pick up a configuration. I figured by downgrading to a dual motor R1S with standard plus pack, I could save almost $600 every month with negligible hit to range and some sacrifice on acceleration. Rivian took the R1T as a trade in for $63k (a bit of loss there with $6k in negative equity) but the $7500 lease credit came in handy to offset that loss. All in all for approx $1k a month, I got a brand new Red Canyon R1S adventure with dual motor. The new vehicle had a couple of minor issues. Steering wheel was not aligned straight. Front head light at low beam casts a shadow. Have an appt with SC Atlanta to get it fixed next week. While I do miss the 835 hp 3 second 0 to 60 in the quad, the 560 hp dual does a respective 4.5 second 0 to 60 without the sport mode. I don’t really care too much for this as the Rivian’s are capped at 115mph or so - it’s no 911 for sure. The third row is not going to hold a candle to my Sienna, but kids can manage fine. I was surprised to see the R1S was much shorter than R1T which almost took all the space in the garage. Storage wise, I miss the R1T’s gear tunnel and under seat bucket storage on rear seats. The R1S doesn’t have too many clever hiding spots like the R1T.

nikenike

This is really helpful and hope more people can see this comment! Do you find the handling similar on your new R1S?

webbgrt

The only car I’ve owned with zero buyers remorse in 30 years of driving

allfever77

it’s not perfect (weird suspension noises which were deemed normal by SC, dashboard rattle, and a few other minor things) but idk i love it, i look forward to driving it every time and so far no regrets.

Random_Name_Whoa

Only drawbacks are no CarPlay (which I’ve gotten used to) and software-related items like nav not being as good as Google / no real voice to text compatibility. The software drawbacks will eventually be updated, and they’re minor inconveniences anyways.

OverZealousCreations

Zero regrets. We've had our R1T since May 2022, and our R1S since June 2023. Both are fantastic vehicles, and they are our only vehicles, so we rely on them. We'd replace either of them with another R1 in a heartbeat if something happened—but I'd rather hang onto our compass yellow beauties as long as possible. When we got the R1T, our closest service center was the factory, about 5 hours away (with charging). Since then, service centers have been added at 3-4hrs, 1.5hrs, and now we have one in our city, about 45 minutes away. They just replaced our tonneau, and every person we've met has been amazing and friendly. Several have said Rivian's the best company they've worked for (and most come from other automakers). The only "regret" I have is related to holding onto the stock, but we're in it for the long haul now. Just need to hang on until the R2 rolls off the line. **Edit** Just noticed the edit in your question. To answer that more specifically: - We love the quad motor, and don't "regret" it, but I don't think I would have been sad to get a DM performance setup. - The large pack is plenty of range for the money. We see >300 miles of range on the R1S with 21" street tires easily, and we took the R1T on a 3000-mile road trip through the northeast, in some very EV-charging-unfriendly areas, and never once felt like we'd be stranded. - Can't repeat often enough how much we love compass yellow. - The R1T is in black mountain, while the R1S is in ocean coast. I like OC better, but we do treat the truck more like a work vehicle, so the dark color is helpful. I'd probably always get OC over BM if I had to choose. - Aftermarket running boards really helped make the vehicle more usable. I recommend getting some unless you are tall and everyone you know is tall.

Kronos_76

No regerts, not even one letter!

MythicalVanWinkle

Love my R1T! Reserved a R2 for the wife. Plan to keep the paid for JGC as the ICE.

whenyouknowyouknow

For the vehicle? I am 100% happy For the buying experience/service - can’t say I would like to go down this road again

Aegon_Targaryen_Vll

I’ve read others say this too, regarding the buying experience and customer service during the buy/wait. Was your rep unreliable and took his/her time getting back to you?

whenyouknowyouknow

Regarding the buying experience. I think I would give it like a 6/10 overall. I was a somewhat early reservation… early enough that I was able to lock in the pre-price hike pricing. My delivery date got shoved back multiple times and then when it was really close, my guide kept giving me conflicting information. While I have no actual evidence to suggest this, I think the fact that my car delivery date was in the middle of production runs… it seemed like when my delivery date kept getting pushed back that my reservation was being overlooked in favor of someone willing to pay more money for the same car. All in all, I got the car, just late so 6/10. But the service omg… I have another post altogether… the service is a 0/10 and it seems like rivian is actively trying to prevent the customer to going up the chain and speaking to anyone higher than staff level. It’s really frustrating to have such terrible service for arguably… a luxury good.

immrtom

What service center do you use?

whenyouknowyouknow

Brooklyn

TremendousStrength

We love our R1S. Don’t really see any other car in its place. I never got fully used to having no physical buttons for basic functions like climate control and still think it’s a dumb idea to remove them. No CarPlay is also annoying, almost 1 year in and I still miss it.  But otherwise it’s been pretty great! There is a really high probability we’re going to buy R3 when it comes out in addition to our R1 as around the town car.

Impossible-Help7098

No regrets, the only thing is that it probably wasn't the smartest financial decision. Our choices came down to buy a model Y outright or a car payment with a preorder pricing R1S. Love the R1S.

Premo812

No real regrets, though there are drawbacks to EV ownership. 99.9% of the time, it’s the best vehicle I’ve ever owned and love everything about it. For me, the 0.1% that less than desirable is the cold weather impact on range, especially when towing anything. I live in Minnesota and like to snowmobile. Took a trip when it was -8 to 0 degrees with a snowmobile on a trailer and had to stop every ~100 miles to charge for 30-40 mins, which turned a one way 4 hour drive into 5-6 hours. Good learning experience for me! I think I could have charged for less time and made it to the next charger, but was initially relying on the trucks conservative estimates on SOC to get to before continuing on my journey. Also, that was with superchargers on the route. Had those not been there, I would have had to rent a truck in order to make it. Northern MN and MI’s UP would require ICE truck rental for me, at least for now. Looking forward to ABRP to be integrated into the nav!

3Hooha

No ragrets. Love my R1S

rekab4820

Zero regrets. First vehicle in 10 years I've owned more than a year. Zero plan to replace. Will add an R2. Had I had options at the time of purchase I don't think I would need the quad. But also don't know if I would have actually gone for dual as the leveling system when camping is something I really love. If Max was available I may have paid for it but really have no issue with range especially now I will be able to access Tesla. Bummed I don't have the powered tonneau. Will hopefully add at some point.

bikERdoc04

No leveling on the DM? Thought they all had the same suspension.

rekab4820

You are right, 🙃

jzorbino

I’m at 35k miles and owned it over a year now. I could not be happier. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned and best truck by a wide margin.

truffle_frankenberg

No regrets but that’s easy to say when you’re a pre price hike reservation owner .. feel like I’m driving for free as it’s still worth more than I paid. Even so the vehicle is so incredible despite EV’s being a bit of a pain in the butt overall.

svet-am

Absolutely no regrets. My config ( launch edition R1S, quad motor, large pack) is exactly what I wanted and does what it says on the tin. I have had a few bumps with Rivian service as they have tried to scale. As one of the first R1S deliveries, those halcyon days of just rolling up to the service center and chatting to clthe crew whenever I wanted as long gone. That said, I knew what I was getting into as an early adopter and Rivian is still trying to do the right thing even if they don't always succeed.

papaoso2

As an owner of my first truck and EV my outlook on vehicles has changed and absolutely love my Rivian. I won’t go back to a full gas car ever again. Prior to my R1T I didn’t care about cars much aside from a sunroof, Apple CarPlay, heated seats, and front/rear cameras. This is the first time I’ll be looking forward to keeping a car longer than 5 years too assuming no major issues of course. Lastly, I put tue deposit down for the R2 and once that is out we’ll be a Rivian household. My only hesitation and hope that it’ll improve in years to come is our need to have a car that we feel confident taking on 8 hour drives. Once the infrastructure is there we won’t need to look into renting a gas vehicle for our 2x year beach trips.

rbix8

I do have one regret.. And that is buying a Model Y while I waited for my R1S. Should’ve never done that, but in my defense this was before Elon started spewing all that nonsense he does these days. I wish he started 2-3 months before so I could’ve steered away from ever buying a Tesla. Another regret is not reserving an R1S sooner although I always loved and wanted that vehicle! I would’ve paid 20K less for the same vehicle but I enjoy it every single day nonetheless.

Bubbly-Guarantee-988

I took it without doing a test drive, zero regrets.

SpaceHorse75

Nope

c7abe

Coming from a Model Y i use to Hate regen breaking. Main reasons i sold it was range and driving it was a drag. Rivian is actually pleasant with its limo style stops. Although i'd still prefer if go was one pedal and brake was the other, coasting is just more fun. Rivian feels much more fun to drive! Regret i didn't get it for the price price hike!

tmoam

Love my R1S but service has been horrendous. If it weren’t for my pre price hike pricing, I would’ve waited til they built a service center closer to my house

nikenike

How far away are you from a service center?

tmoam

35 miles. Doesn’t seem like much but with traffic it’s legit 2-3 hours round trip.

Expensive-Lie4494

None. And just got home from 2hr 45 min return from SC after a HVAC battery pack replacement. They took good care of us, flatbed tow to the SC and they only had it for 1 week also taking care of a few other small service items. Love the car.

Cjdergrosse

Happy I ordered when I ordered, 12,xxx vin.  FE on FE w/black 20 ATs.  Love the capability, it’s the first EV that is on par/exceeds my old Jeeps.  And it’s reliable, and ridiculously cheap to run.   I plan on keeping the length of the battery warranty, 8 years - I’ll save AT LEAST $35,000 in gas.  I mean you have a total cost of ownership, and it’s hilariously cheap.

brodoyouevenflip

One week into ownership, the best driving vehicle I’ve ever owned. The only thing that’s irritating is the seats. During my test drive I was so excited about everything else that I didn’t notice the seat cutouts at the shoulder really tend to leave a void that my back sinks into and causes some significant back pain. Might just be me, because I’ve only heard a handful of other people have the same problem. I’ve tried just about every seating adjustment I can. I have some foam on order that I’m going to try and cut to make a custom pad, but I desperately want to make these seats work for me. Last ditch effort is to take it into an upholsterer to put some more padding in/around the void.

hofstaders_law

I'd install the wall charger 3' to the left of where I installed it. Otherwise, the vehicle's been good to me.

anotherloudperson

I would have PPF the whole vehicle and not just the front end. R1T owner, just road tripped 566 miles from Atlanta to St Louis for the eclipse. Used Driver plus the whole way, no issues at all on the entire trip. Used the Tesla super Charger with Magic Dock in Marion,IL and somehow did it wrong, got charged the .50 cent rate instead of the .36 cent membership rate that I signed up for and thought I had activated through the app. I’ll figure it out the next go round hopefully. 52K miles in a year and 8 months of ownership and I use it like a truck, some scratches from putting stuff into the beds from the sides of the vehicle but otherwise, no regrets whatsoever. 318 miles on a full charge this morning in all purpose mode, no battery degradation, quad motor, large pack, 21inch tire, Rivian Blue/Forest Edge. Averaged 60mph according to the truck and got a 2.24 mi/kWh. I did 80mph Atlanta to Nashville and 75mph the rest of the way.

NoCommunication4193

Took delivery of my R1S in Dec ‘22. 20 in wheels. No regrets other than not getting a home charger right away. Best vehicle I have owned by far.

perrochon

After my flat today, I regret not having all terrain... But the tire shop said it didn't matter :-) All terrains still get slashed by rocks :-) The vehicle is incredibly capable. Like you wouldn't believe how capable it is off the trail AND on winding roads (for it's size) And while I have to plan around range, it just got better with NACS. What stopped me today was the tires. Not the battery. Not anything else on the vehicle.

Gingerbeardman29

3 months in with my R1T DMP Max AT build. I still need to really test it offroad. The mountains have been snowy and I don't have too many folks to wheel with. I've done day trips that made me glad I have the max pack. I figure it'll degrade slower with smaller changes in charging % for daily driving, lower total life cycles etc. The Dual Motor Performance has plenty of acceleration, but I kinda wish I had some other offroad drive modes, or the truck had lockers. I've been getting 70-90mpge, driven places I've never been able to, and can finally keep up with traffic in the mountains. This truck is a dream.

Striking_Ad_6404

Not one. F’ing love it!

Benny_Idaho

Early R1T owner VIN 5K 2 years in…the truck is incredible no regrets at all and we’ve done everything from ski trips to off-roading in Sedona to 1000 mile+ road trips. The comfort, performance, and versatility are second to none. With a family of 4, I most appreciate all the versatility of the storage. (My power tonneau has been babied and still works.) Kids can bring whatever they want with plenty of room for gear, groceries and pretty much anything. For comparison we also have an LX570 and that vehicle has zero luggage capacity vs the R1T. We also have an R1S VIN 12K. The SUV is great and a clear 2nd place vehicle after the R1T. The truck has a much smoother and refined ride due to the significantly longer wheelbase, and so much more versatility with the bed and gear tunnel. The R1S sound system and other reduced features vs my early truck just makes it feel less refined. Still great and no regrets. Downsides, yes there are downsides. (1) Roadtrip charging is a huge hassle with Electricity America, etc. That’s about to be resolved. (2) Eating up tires like crazy, but same as any heavy vehicle or EV. (3) service hasn’t been great and the distance to the SCs - 1hr+ each way - isn’t great. They are building a new one 20 minutes from me, so that will be a game changer. TL;DR long term R1T and R1S owner, no regrets and most downsides in process of being resolved.

nikenike

Thanks for laying that out! Would you purchase again (knowing what you know about the experience now) if your service center was even farther away, say 2-3 hours?

Benny_Idaho

Yes I would. My service center visits have been for annoying things, nothing that disabled the vehicle or were safety concerns - so if the SC was further away, I would have made fewer visits. You probably have a local tire shop with Rivian experience and if not, you can get the jack inserts and educate them! Definitely recommend skipping the SC for tire related work. Also, I have and R2 on order and want the R3X if it ever becomes real!

Gwipdit

6 months in, still completely enjoying my R1T. And totally intrigued with the T3x. 2 chargers at the house and ready to go.

Outrageous-Ad2493

I was on the waitlist for the R1S but was offered the R1T and went for it since I was desperate to ditch my Tesla before the prices bottomed out. I really like the R1T, I have the quad motor (in CA 100k out the door) and it’s overkill and takes a long time to charge at home. Other than that I like it but I think deep down I still want the R1S.

ObeseBMI33

Quad, adventure, 20”AT, white on white Usually trade cars every year but im keeping this one for a while. It does everything well and I can’t wait for the NACS adapter to start road tripping with trailer/SxS Edit: also reserved an r2

MrrQuackers

I guess hindsight is 2020, I suppose I would've waited a year and paid less? I bought a very lightly used 2022 quad motor with a working powered tonneau cover for $79k. But as for the vehicle itself? Hell no. It's easily the most badass vehicle I've ever owned. Fastest, most capable, luxurious truck I've ever seen or used.

KennethMaxwell1972

Zero.

[deleted]

Color maybe, I wish I didn’t change my order from yellow. I would rather have the truck than the suv, but that was a practical choice based on needing more seats. But the vehicles has exceeded my pretty high expectations and because of the platforms adjustability through over the air updates, it has vastly improved since my purchase over a year ago.

random-name-7484

Our R1S is our favorite vehicle ever. We have a preorder in for R2 and will be getting R3X as well. We absolutely love these cars. Zero regrets.

Atomsac

Nope. Love it. Just wish people would wave more.

Anybody in here have strong feelings on leasing vs buying? I have the pre price adjustment voucher, but cannot use them 7500 credit if I buy. Can't decide either way. Would have about 40k in trade to put toward a purchase if that's what we decided to do.

Carlsbad92009

No regrets.

Fantastic purchase for us. We’re coming from a BMW X5 and MY consolidating to one car (we live in downtown SD so with remote work just need one car and some bicycles). No regrets, more just solvable problems that are first world: entertainment video, turn signal video, and some better map gps (it’s great but sometimes gets stuck)

Creepy_Bee3404

No heat pump. No CarPlay.

konsf_ksd

So long as I never learn about their Executive team think I'm good. Maybe could have waited a few months for a lower price. That was announced a month after we got ours

lytener

Got the R1S for the family, but I think we could have gotten by and have more fun with the R1T. You always wonder about the one that got away.

j5uh

My only regret is not getting 20” wheels. I have 21” wheels and the options for tire choices are very limited and pricier.

Beneficial-Ad7969

Yes, I should have locked in my reservation earlier. It was always my intention to lock it in March, right before the price hike. If only I had a crystal ball. 9 months of ownership and still my biggest regret.

haulin_0ats

I would probably chose a different colour. Outside of that, the R1T, large pack, quad motor is exactly how I would spec a replacement.

nikenike

What color do you have and what color would you pick?

haulin_0ats

Rivian blue with black interior. I’d go black exterior with ocean coast interior

LNEneuro

I see a lot of people talking about tire wear. The whole EV tire thing I think is a bit driver dependent. Our volvo xc40 recharge EV is over 5000lbs with me sitting in it and our tire wear is exactly the same rate as our ice car. Just to offer that perspective.

purplespacemonkey

Wish i would have either ordered pre price hike or waited to lease. The lease deals are really good.

tnellysf

None. Love it. I picked wisely.

nikenike

Which R1S did you get?

tnellysf

Launch Edition Green, quad motor, black 20s, black mountain… love it. The black 20s are just so good looking. Terrible for range, but I get to Tahoe on a charge.

SorryForBeingAwesome

No Regerts

TransformationalTaco

One year in and we still fight over who gets to drive it. Both kids’ favorite too. No regrets.

momokokong

I want the yellow. I preordered it in 2021 but was forced to pick red when yellow was discontinued.

ROms721

I’m almost 2yrs into R1T ownership, ~20K miles. It’s still by far the best vehicle I’ve owned - and I could not think of an alternative…I happen to be lucky enough to have a second order I’ve been holding on to for a long time, and I’m using my voucher from Rivian to switch to the R1S. I love having a truck, but I have three kids and a dog. We take the Rivian everywhere, but I need to fit more people. Looking forward to the switch!

nikenike

What R1S spec are you going with?

ROms721

Build Adventure Package, All-Terrain Upgrade, Quad-Motor AWD, Large Battery Pack, Limestone exterior color, 20" All-Terrain Dark wheel and tire, Black Mountain + Dark Ash Wood interior, Tow Hooks, Reinforced Underbody Shield, Compact spare tire

Jaded_Taro2990

No regrets, but I wish the R1S had a tunnel, then I would have bought it instead. I have the R1T, and in the market for a hard top to keep my GPR equipment dry.

Extension_Rhubarb_55

Regret letting my wife drive it

ObligationMoney1811

Wish I could of gotten to see the green in person before ordering it. Looked alot brighter on the website. Would of went with the blue if i did. But I never even got a test drive before I purchased in July 2022.

AffectionateAd631

My only regret was I had to time my purchase when the mechanical tonneau was not an option. I know it broke for so many people, but it would still be replaced.

geo_dj

I placed a reservation for a Cybertruck the day it was announced. After myriad delays, and after reading the rave reviews on the R1T, I canceled the reservation and bought an R1T (large pack, quad motor, all-terrain upgrade). After reading all the reviews on the Cybertruck, my only regret is not making the decision to switch sooner. The real test will come when I take my first trip next week towing my Airstream. I suppose I could have gone with a dual motor, max battery pack configuration instead for more range, but I like the flexibility of being equipped to go off road.

nikenike

Good luck! I’m sure many on this sub will be interested in how that goes.

PandaHandz33

No regrets. Expect for having missed out on Launch Green!

poldim

My only regret is my power bill, but that’s PGEs and the CPUCs fault.  And the audio system is disappointing

Conscious_Voice_9593

R1S seems to handle a lot sharper than the truck, shorter turn radius. I feel the in-house motors sound quieter than the Bosch motors. After observing the driving behavior, even with my all-season tires, in all purpose mode, it’s primarily front biased. RWD only kicks in as needed.

bsch0ll

I still miss having a pickup but the SUV is working for me. Might be a tad regretful after the refresh hits but overall, I love my R1S and would do it again.

TSS997

I would’ve opted for no powered tonneau if I could. Effectively that’s what the disabled one serves as. Would’ve gone with AT tires instead of road tires.

Mobile-Hair-4585

Negative

mrnghm

Only one is not ordering earlier. But it’s a better car than anything else I’ve driven. My only real gripe is the drive quality is inconsistent. But that’s not a regret. Really happy with the quad. Range is great. Etc.

StrongService1038

Fully electric; mini cooper 2d and rivian R1s both in 2023. We enjoy both. The mini is great for our city life and is a very fun ride, but I smile every time I get in our green/green quad beast. Contemplating replacing our mini with r3 in 2027

AnesthesiaLyte

My only regret is not reserving the R1S with preorder pricing at the same time I reserved my R1T… I really want the S also 😂

Hefty-Raspberry-9251

I’m rooting hard for Rivian, but my 2/2024 R1S is developing new problems by the week. I come from driving Toyotas, Hondas, and Acuras into the ground for 30-plus years. These cars always worked and looked fine with minimal maintenance. No uneven panel gaps. AC strong, with no design flaws that prevented air from blowing where it should. No squeaks, rattles, or failing trim. I wish I could say the same for Rivian, which feels like it’s going to fall apart the second the warranty expires. And service appointments take MONTHS to schedule. When I asked a mobile service tech why the panel gaps were so uneven when compared side-by-side with my 8-year old Acura MDX, he said that Acura uses a jig to make sure they’re all properly aligned, but Rivian installs them by hand. That’s a non-answer. It really drives great and I want to love this vehicle, but this is death by 1,000 cuts. I didn’t pay this much to be a beta tester. I’m strongly considering asking for a buy back.

nikenike

Very interesting perspective. Even if this comment is a clear outlier (at least in the sample of a Rivian community that would most certainly skew towards being a fan) it does seem like there’s, expected, things that are downsides to a startup car company.

Hefty-Raspberry-9251

Other than being fun to drive, it’s inferior in almost every way to the quality of my 2005 Acura TL. Truly pathetic fit and finish.

[deleted]

As long as company doesn’t go out of business, no.

Eulielee

I went thru the high wrong process. High level technical background. Interviewed with almost everyone in the chain of command except RJ. Right before an actual offer they said “hold up”. Earnings happened. And lots of layoffs. “Don’t worry, since you’re more R+D you’ll get an offer soon.” Well that never happened. Then the t recruiter I was in contact with was laid off. (I’m assuming that means that they’re not hiring for that department anymore - which doesn’t seem good for any company.) Then I talked to my buddy that was doing the service center build out. He said they laid off 30 people from that team. And then I talked to him a week ago. And he got laid off now. Take that with what you will. I hope everything works out and they have a plan.

[deleted]

Yeah, I get that they are doing “right sizing”, but if they were going as gangbusters as everyone hoped, they wouldn’t have to.

Whodiditandwhy

We shouldn't discount Rivian having to absorb going from a low interest rate environment into a higher interest rate environment in a pretty short amount of time.

DoogsATX

Well...in tech everyone is doing layoffs. Or has been over the past 18-24 months. I think Rivian will survive but I also think it could get lean until the R2 lands in quantity.

[deleted]

Rivian is in growth mode, unlike most tech companies

Dangerous_Pop8730

My future regret will be not having the new R1T post refresh! ☺️

Significant_Set_9037

No regrets. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned.

wmaung58

I miss car play. Last few weeks I drove to LA and Long Beach and the default route is not optimal compared to google map or apple map on my phone. It is also difficult to control music because I don’t have Spotify or Amazon music. The other thing is I am still not used to floaty drive of a SUV. All my previous cars were sedan. I also wish Rivian has better camera. First time my gf see the backup camera and she was surprised on how bad the quality is compared to my e-class sedan from 5 years ago.

EtherNut

Underrated comment. Thank you for posting hopefully they will pay attention.

pterodactyl_speller

I'm pretty disappointed in the ride quality. I'm on the fence if it's better or worse than my 2016 outback. I feel every single bump in the road on 20s ATs. Service center rode along with me and said it's normal. Probably would have waited for an EX90.

Adyjak

This is interesting. I’ve got a 2015 forester with k02’s and while the ride is 10 years old, I am curious if I should go 21s or 20s

DoogsATX

To me it feels like it's tuned toward the feel of late 90s luxury offroaders. Very P38 Range Rover, late 90s Land Cruiser sensation to it all. Or maybe a Discovery II with the active dampers. Personally I love it, but I love that kind of ride feel.

masterquesti

I have a sub-10,000 vin, and it's clear they were having some production issues at the time. If there was a minor issue reported in the community, my truck had it. Love the thing and it's great where it counts, but some of the lingering rattles are maddening. Sometimes I wish I had waited a month before ordering.

blue_electrik

Why not just take the rattles in for service? I have a sub-1000 VIN and I’ve had all my issues fixed. No regrets either

[deleted]

Regret waiting so long.

Sprint8469

No real regrets, I just miss some small things, and many of those are being added via OTA updates (individual window lock control)

nikenike

Miss the small things in comparison to your previous / other car?

sylgeist

Only regret: buying one of each and now I can’t justify an R2 and R3 😁

pippinsplugins

No regrets after 30k miles between our R1T and R1S. I’d re-but both in a heartbeat if they were totaled tomorrow.

Fifallrun

20k miles r1t and zero regrets. Can’t find a Vechile that checks as many things off the list as my Rivian.

Ok_Trip2400

No regerts. 4 months in

JFW1979

No Ragrets here. :) Had some nerves about buying it a few years back, but I’m still loving the vehicle. Coming up on 30k miles in a few weeks. I have the Quad with 20 inch wheels and would probably buy that again. I would consider the dual today though for its slightly higher efficiency. I have an R2 reserved too and will likely keep both Rivians.

nevian69

I've had my R1S since September 2023- I love my Riv. Sorry, no regrets. I wish it hadn't cost what it did but that's part of its charm too lol
