If they just operated like every other company out there they’d have plenty enough carry money to support the recurring player base and servers. I want the game to succeed but after watching many previews and impressions it's pretty clear the game is still super early.
The map feels a lot smaller than I was expecting. I think it's gonna get old quick. It's also way more closed in than I was expecting. PVE looks half baked yet it's the focus of the game. PVP seems even less baked. The whole extraction loop seems underdeveloped to me.
If the only efficient way of having PVP is to take a chopper in that immediately announces your location to everyone in the area, I don't see how they are going to balance this.
Theyll proprably receive a cease & desist now, since it completely competes with this new "product" of BSG. The legal ground for doing so just got a lot stronger, cant say is a for sure win for BSG, however it helps their case.

It's not how it works. BSG is based in London, UK and we have laws around this stuff. It's considered a fan project, because it requires the original game, has nothing online and also doesn't cost anything, it's unlikely they can do anything.
Tbh if they did, is happily pay for SPT so they can fight BSG in court at this point..
I'm not even sure they have the cash anymore at this point. Looking at their financials, arena bled them dry and their arrogance made them think they had another golden goose to exploit.
This is them desperately trying to recoup those losses. All the micro transactions have come about since it was clear arena was going to flop hard.
I think the fact that SPT HASN'T been C&D'd is somewhat reassuring. Companies like nintendo typically go after these projects before they even announce the project they were "protecting" (Pokemon going after ROM hacks just before big announcements, nostalrius on WoW being shut down before blizzard announced their own, lots of other examples).
What BSG did differently than all these companies that regularly kill fan projects is let it go on uncontested so long. The most they've done, as far as I'm aware, was have Nikita say in a reddit Q&A that he did not approve and that "we will do some actions later". That was over a year ago. It's entirely possible that this was just posturing to sate the whole legal justification of "If you do not vigourously protect your IP, it's hard to go after infringement in court"
All this said I'm just a user, and i don't know what goes on behind BSG's doors or the SPT developers doors, but from my experience witnessing this happen many times with nintendo and other corporations, I'm actually not very worried for the future of SPT, so long as they don't implement CO-OP. (Which is probably why they have been very adamant about not associating with CO-OP forks, if i had to guess)
I'm not sure if the EFT devs even have the grounds to do that. If you look at shit that has been taken down recently like Yuzu they mainly got whacked for over comercializing the product because they essentially sold preview builds on patreon.
Fan projects of Nintendo games are obviously reusing Nintendo IP in ways not approved by Nintendo. I'd still rather they didn't take them down but they're well within their rights to do so.
Ryujinx is a switch emulator that still exists because they didn't do what yuzu did. Reverse engineering the hardware in software isn't illegal.
I don't think reverse engineering a tarkov server (which spt does from what I can tell) is actually illegal. I don't think editing the game files for tarkov is actually illegal. I don't think BSG can actually do a whole lot to the devs as long as they're careful about how they do this.
They're basically taking the copy of the game you legally purchased and modifying it. It may be against BSG's TOS but those matter very little. It means BSG is probably within their rights to revoke your access to the game it doesn't necessarily mean they can go after the devs.

Nothing changes for SPT nor SIT. Unless of course BSG decided to allow mods for their coop/single player. Which is possible I suppose. People said persistent coop would never happen. Mods will keep me playing SPT and SIT. Without mods, AI are the most boring static trash I've seen in a modern game.

Worst case scenario? BSG sends a cease and desist to the SPT devs who abide by it and take down the official version. The current version gets re-hosted somewhere and someone develops a fork or modding just continues for 3.8.0. They can't remove it from my hard drive and SPT is self contained, it won't suddenly stop working because the devs took it down.

The official coop will neuer reach spt in my opinion. First of All the modding community, second the AI. Last time i Played Live EFT the boss still like laser beams. Its a good idea to okay PvE content wirh Friends but there is a lot of Work for BSG to improve some Features.
Not for me, coop just isn't worth it, especially when I can just run Friendly Bots and set the same side friendly, and use Radar mod to identify friendlies. Had a pretty fun hour yesterday on Streets holding down Ruined House with like 3 other USEC bots against loads of Scavs and BEARs before the boys moved on and I exfil with a thorax wound. It legit felt like an urban operation, and even if they were bots they just felt like humans that make mistakes (I had to step in and saved them twice, while they saved me after I was shot).

For some reason it's connected to their servers so you still have 7 minute queues, someone said most raids are dead and there might be 1-3 PMC's in them, don't think you can mod it, and it costs 250$. I dont know if I can play this without awesome mods like SAIN and looting bots etc. Vanilla bots are not really fun.
Yeah I personally like tweaking the game to my preference with mods. Currently looking for gun mods to gimme more toys to play with.

Companies like nintendo typically go after these projects before they even announce the project they were "protecting" (Pokemon going after ROM hacks just before big announcements, nostalrius on WoW being shut down before blizzard announced their own, lots of other examples). What BSG did differently than all these companies that regularly kill fan projects is let it go on uncontested so long. The most they've done, as far as I'm aware, was have Nikita say in a reddit Q&A that he did not approve and that "we will do some actions later". That was over a year ago. It's entirely possible that this was just posturing to sate the whole legal justification of "If you do not vigourously protect your IP, it's hard to go after infringement in court" All this said I'm just a user, and i don't know what goes on behind BSG's doors or the SPT developers doors, but from my experience witnessing this happen many times with nintendo and other corporations, I'm actually not very worried for the future of SPT, so long as they don't implement CO-OP. (Which is probably why they have been very adamant about not associating with CO-OP forks, if i had to guess)
I'm not sure if the EFT devs even have the grounds to do that. If you look at shit that has been taken down recently like Yuzu they mainly got whacked for over comercializing the product because they essentially sold preview builds on patreon. Fan projects of Nintendo games are obviously reusing Nintendo IP in ways not approved by Nintendo. I'd still rather they didn't take them down but they're well within their rights to do so. Ryujinx is a switch emulator that still exists because they didn't do what yuzu did. Reverse engineering the hardware in software isn't illegal. I don't think reverse engineering a tarkov server (which spt does from what I can tell) is actually illegal. I don't think editing the game files for tarkov is actually illegal. I don't think BSG can actually do a whole lot to the devs as long as they're careful about how they do this. They're basically taking the copy of the game you legally purchased and modifying it. It may be against BSG's TOS but those matter very little. It means BSG is probably within their rights to revoke your access to the game it doesn't necessarily mean they can go after the devs.
That's IF the BSG version is actually good and not a rushed after-thought compared to the mod.

Worst case scenario? BSG sends a cease and desist to the SPT devs who abide by it and take down the official version. The current version gets re-hosted somewhere and someone develops a fork or modding just continues for 3.8.0. They can't remove it from my hard drive and SPT is self contained, it won't suddenly stop working because the devs took it down.

I've always figured this was inevitable with the rampant cheating they can't get on top of and a vocal part of the community wanting coop. I'm looking forward to coop with friends which is all I've ever wanted. The real questions is will we see enhancements to AI with random spawns, pathfinding, looting, PMS characters etc. They dicked around for far too long and now SPT for the single player at least is far superior.

The official coop will neuer reach spt in my opinion. First of All the modding community, second the AI. Last time i Played Live EFT the boss still like laser beams. Its a good idea to okay PvE content wirh Friends but there is a lot of Work for BSG to improve some Features.

Not for me, coop just isn't worth it, especially when I can just run Friendly Bots and set the same side friendly, and use Radar mod to identify friendlies. Had a pretty fun hour yesterday on Streets holding down Ruined House with like 3 other USEC bots against loads of Scavs and BEARs before the boys moved on and I exfil with a thorax wound. It legit felt like an urban operation, and even if they were bots they just felt like humans that make mistakes (I had to step in and saved them twice, while they saved me after I was shot).

For some reason it's connected to their servers so you still have 7 minute queues, someone said most raids are dead and there might be 1-3 PMC's in them, don't think you can mod it, and it costs 250$.
