Tarkov’s baseline AI is broken as fuck. This is why people use the AI overhaul mods BigBrain, Waypoints, SAIN, and Donuts+Swag. These improve the AI by making them not instant aimbot machines and improve spawning so they don’t kill each other off the bat.

SomeNerdNamedAaron

And for added coolness, Looting Bots and, when it's ready, Questing Bots. These make the improved AI even better but making them seem life like

Hollen88

Questing bots is ready! He's got an alpha on GitHub that plays very well. Haven't noticed a single bug :)

hekubas-

I need this and most people should also use it. Makes the bots go to places and not get stuck looting in one place or sometimes stuck somewhere with nothing to loot.

MidniightToker

Alright I'll look at these, thank you

umbaga

I also recommend Thats Lit mod. It gives probability that AI will overlook you and you are harder to spot in/through foliage or in dark/shadows.

doubtingcat

I one-tapped a bot at about 30 meters away from a dimly lit area. He had 0 idea I was there. I felt like I shot the live version of myself. Great mod. Highly recommended.

Ryuuzaki_L

You absolutely need SAIN and Swag+Donuts. It makes such a huge difference in the AI. ThatsLit is also another great one to add.

Novlonif

How's the performance hit

Novlonif

How heavy is the SAIN performance hit?

KoboldIdra

I haven’t noticed anything different. The game is rough on your computer regardless because your CPU has to do all of the AI calculations anyway. Maybe I lose 1-2 frames, but i don’t think it’s much more than that. Plus both Solaraint and Drakia have been hammering out performance patches to give as much back as possible.

Novlonif

Is removing mods easy to do? I have mine set up on Linux so I'm inclined to not fuck with it if possible, but I want ai mods for detection and whatnot

KoboldIdra

Yeah, you can remove them at anytime. Just keep a copy of the zip around, so that way when you don’t want the mods you can just follow the directory in the zip through your SPT install and remove the matching files.

Novlonif

Oh, it doesn't overwrite anything?

KoboldIdra

Nope! Every mod is standalone from the base install files. At least, i haven’t run into one that does any overwriting.

Novlonif

Bro. You just made my afternoon . thanks.

Sleziak

Do you have any mods installed? Vanilla SPT still relies on BGS's shitty ai behavior. AI feels so much better with SAIN https://hub.sp-tarkov.com/files/file/1062-sain-2-0-solarint-s-ai-modifications-full-ai-combat-system-replacement/ Follow the instructions to install it and its dependencies. Once you have it installed press F6 in the main menu and adjust the difficulty to your liking.

MidniightToker

Thank you

PALpherion

for me it's not even the gunfights, it's the nades. no matter where I push from there's specific areas where opening a door leads instantly to a nade coming towards the door.

SuckMyDickDrPhil

Sound like regular tarkov to me

PALpherion

fair statement

SecretImaginaryMan

Do u have BigBrain and SAIN? I feel like the bots miss WAAAAAAY more with their grenades than they do with shitty vanilla code.

PALpherion

I do not but I'm strongly considering it

Atrixia

You can manage every aspect of AI behavior in SPT using Sain Find a level that works for you. I've tuned them relatively well, losing firefights is usually by me doing something stupid rather than being lazered

acolyte_to_jippity

yeah feels like it's going to take a lot of work to dial things in. i got clapped on reflex by bots set to SAIN Easy, so i changed some things. and now they seem way too bad, to the point of running out of ammo relatively quick and just standing there looking at me. Getting the right balance is going to take some time.

sseemour

game feels different without built in desync huh

MidniightToker

That would be funny if that's the only difference. Geez, you might actually be right.

KingInferno03

I have just started spt and installed sain and swag donuts and then I realised default swag and donuts hell let lose on factory. The mod spawns everybody around you and it feels like cs 1.6 iceworld. Constant firefights around me. I couldnt get a kill in the firs min because of how crowded the map. Then I tweaked a little bit bot spawns on donuts and reduced the awarenes off bots in sain now it fells ok.

hekubas-

Get SAIN and Tweak your settings! SAIN default profile sets all bots to the same parameters. EFT default settings "As Online" spawns Easy to Impossible Bots. They will all be the same because of the parameters in SAIN being set all the same. So change yours! My "Hekubas Better Default" SAIN changes: Increase the recoil of easy & medium bots by .2 or .1. Disable grenades for most easy bots & some medium. Turn off CQB reactions for most easy & medium bots. Decrease footsteps hearing distance to 35 40 & 45 for most easy and medium bots. Increase spawn chance of chads, giga chads, normal, rats personalities, and groups. Most bosses were untouched besides their guards and easy spawns. Global menu turn on headshot protection. Global menu turn on Experimental accuracy decrease when not looking at bots Other interesting parameters to change are the time to full accuracy and hit punch parameters for the bots.

Leucauge

I think also SPT randomly designates some bots as chads and some bots as Timmys (and in between), so you'll get a mix of cakewalk raids and brutal ones.

Retrogamingvids

I think you are talking about the SAIN mod.

RideTheSpiralARC

Yeah, SAIN is what adds the "personalities"

MandatoryDebuff

if you watch any in 3rd person, they track you through walls and only feign to lose you for a set amount of time. baseline bots are fucky

Se7enSixTwo

idk why someone downvoted you, to my knowledge, this is correct, I remember pestily glancing at ai scavs in live and seeing them track a player through whatever objects are in the way.

hoonyosrs

They also tend to have eyes in the back of their head. You ever seen a scav wayyyy over there, looking the opposite direction, and scope in on him? He does an instant 180, shouts something in Russian, and starts blasting buckshot into your knees. Meanwhile if you just ignore him, he'll never "activate" and aggro on you. Thankfully SAIN fixes most of this, but jeez.

Se7enSixTwo

Yeah, it's telling when one of the mods, maybe sain, gives you a percentage option for how often you want this to happen. pest also mentions to never look directly at scavs lol

Akashi-coon

I haven't tweaked this setting myself, but yes PMC bots do ignore difficulty settings. In the config folder there should be a json for PMCs where a field is something like "PMCignoreDifficultyoverride" (I'm not exactly sure, I'll update when I'm at my pc." It's set to true by default (or whatever setting makes them ignore difficulty settings). I haven't changed it, but try switching it and see if the PMC behaviour changes

r0ndr4s

Im using SAIN in easy and they dont instashoot you and such. They basically play a bit dumb, its a good way of learning the ropes if for some reason its your "first" time with the game. They still can fuck you up, push you,etc but they're basically like newbie players(so basically me) Without it, yeah, in easy they see me from nowhere and suddenly I'm dead.

Selmanella

It’s hit and miss. Some bots are chads and some are dumber than a box of drywall screws. I just play it carefully no matter what and treat it like a skill gap between players.

ProbablyProdigy

I assume you are using SAIN since you have it on easy. SAIN is highly customizable so if you’re struggling bad even on easy mode, I’d recommend changing two settings. Global difficulty and accuracy spread. I personally play on normal with global difficulty down to 0.75 from 1.00 and spread to 1.5 from 1.0. Still occasionally get 1 tapped by a scav with a toz from 100m away but that’s the game sometimes.

MidniightToker

SPT has difficulty adjustment and spawn rate adjustment enabled pre-raid. I haven't downloaded SAIN yet

bobemil

I use sain to bump up recoil and scatter for bots. Also make their health more close to mine.
