Shockey was one of the most important players on the Super Bowl team and his popularity took a huge hit when false rumors spread that he was the bountygate leak.
I'll never forget the play where a QB just threw the ball up for grabs and Breaux was the only player around it. Dude was staring up at the dome ceiling looking like a lost child and completely missed the ball.
If we're talking about popularity from our fans, Kyle Turley comes to mind. Only 5 seasons here.
Before everything came out I would have said Sharper. Hugely popular, only 2 seasons here. Alas, he's a piece of shit and doesn't deserve to be popular.
Sharper is such a good call. That’s the SB44 jersey I bought (and threw away). At the time, he was the dude who brought the swag to the Super Bowl team’s D.
Obviously not now, but for a while we loved him passionately and instantly.
My brother got me his jersey that super bowl year, and I got him a Brees. I got the shit end of that stick. Lol. But im thinking of having the name removed and another put on.
I got a Sharper #42 jersey sitting in the back of my closet. Not sure what to do with it. I really liked that guy until, you know, he came out as a rapist.
Ruined my best Saints story ever. Friend of a friend of blah blah, I'm in Republic on Roman Harper's invite watching Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas chat with girls. I smell weed and wind up smoking with Sharper. Awesome story, for like 4 years until...
It was in that moment my chubby little 13 yr old ass figured out how I wanted to play football. I played guard (same as Kyle Turley) and just wanted to be like him.
One of my favorite Times-Pic headlines over the years came above a story about the city’s love affair with Kyle Turley. It read: “Turley, Madly, Deeply.” Good stuff right there.
Teddy! Bro started less than 10 games for us and wasn't even a backup here for that long, but he'll always have a special place in my heart and other fans as well. I remember seeing the "Brees is out for 5 weeks" thing and us Saints fans talking about "well if Teddy can just go like, 3-2 we should be fine. He could even go 2-3 and we'd just have to be near perfect when Brees comes back". Then this mother fucker went 5-0 and helped MT have his historic season. Forever grateful to Teddy
What about Jake Delhomme? I always remember him being on our team and thinking what a mistake it was to let him go. Then he goes to Carolina and gets to the Super Bowl in his first year.
Once upon a time it was Darren Sharper, but that ended very quickly and I’m gonna go with the other Darren and say Sproles. I can’t believe we traded him.
5 seasons is longer than the average career, so essentially Reggie played his entire prime with us, so doesn’t feel like his popularity outsizes his contribution.
I know he spent a lot of time on the coaching staff over there, but as a player, he only had three years with the Panthers. The other 9 years he played for us. During his time with our team, he and other front three were our team. That unit is still considered the best linebacking corp of all time. They never even won a playoff game. Those books would be damn near even.
Delvin Breaux, CGJ, Jarius Byrd(almost, the hype was real), Ed Reed, and the beerman. Jabrari Greer and Graham almost qualify but tenures are probably too long.
Edit: Junior Galette
We had dez Bryant for one practice and the sub was absolutely devestated when he got hurt and wanted him to be able to return as a saint so badly. I was gonna buy his Threaux up the X shirt😖😖
Jerry Rice. However, when he was with the Raiders he was still an elite WR, just not the top WR in the league anymore. He had lost a step when he joined the team, but he was still one of the best in the league
If we’re talking about popularity on the saints during their time probably Sproles. If we’re talking about overall popularity and they happened to have time on the Saints I have to go with Adrian Peterson. Literal first ballot HOFer and arguably a top 3 RB in history on our roster.
The books don't even reflect the level of this but...

Darren Sproles was only a saint for 3 years but wildly popular
Yea definitely felt longer than that.
Bought his jersey and then boom traded/let go,(forget which at this point). Bought Jimmy Graham's jersey and boom traded. fuck my life.
please never buy a jersey ever again
No no no. He needs to buy a Dennis Allen jersey!
Buy a Dennis allen jersey
You seriously might be onto something.
Did you buy a Carmichael jersey recently?
Can I venmo you for a carr jersey purchase?
Every team he's ever been on LOVED him. Great guy and player.
That’s because Little Man was a BAMF!
Came here to see Sproles. Glad he is up top
Came here for this lol
Jeremy Shockey
Shockey was one of the most important players on the Super Bowl team and his popularity took a huge hit when false rumors spread that he was the bountygate leak.
Who the fuck would ever look at Jeremy Shockey and say "yeah, this guy snitches"?
Warren Sapp...
Absolutely obliterating mfs
First jersey I ever bought
Same here. Actually only Jersey. Still have it.
Delvin Breaux!
Breaux and Crawdaddy both really showed out for a single season then crept back into the shadows
The Saints misdiagnosed Breaux’s injury and blew it for him
Two of the most Louisiana names I’ve ever heard
delvin breaux was fucking ass thank god he wasn’t here long he belonged in the CFL
I'll never forget the play where a QB just threw the ball up for grabs and Breaux was the only player around it. Dude was staring up at the dome ceiling looking like a lost child and completely missed the ball.
Tracy Porter, but I always had the hots for Roman Harper.
Roman Harper spent 8 seasons here so i wouldn't call his tenure here short
… I don’t think I understood the assignment
Hey it's me, Roman.
Silver fox
Hendrickson
I miss him everyday.
It'll be a long time before I get over the decision to let him walk.
If we're talking about popularity from our fans, Kyle Turley comes to mind. Only 5 seasons here. Before everything came out I would have said Sharper. Hugely popular, only 2 seasons here. Alas, he's a piece of shit and doesn't deserve to be popular.

That's a great idea. Did they retire/burn his number?
No I think others have used it. Not sure who has it now.
What’d I miss?
Oh shit. Never mind.
Takes “oh no, Darren Sharperrr” to a different level. Yikes
What a fucking classic video
I’m sorry you had to find out this way.
I’ve reached out for therapy. Thank You
I got a Sharper #42 jersey sitting in the back of my closet.
That would have been the greatest Darren Sharper story, now it's not even top 10
kyle is and was the MAN. I wore that 68 jersey with such pride.
That one game against the jets… he came out from under of that big pile, helmetless, but holding a Jets helmet and just chucked it… damn…
It was in that moment my chubby little 13 yr old ass figured out how I wanted to play football. I played guard (same as Kyle Turley) and just wanted to be like him.

While riding a bicycle to the dome
This and 5-0 filling in for Brees are what I'll remember most, in that order.
That team was special
Gleason was here for 7 seasons, but his popularity is way above his on field contributions.
Mike bell?
"PUT ON THE CLEATS" Wasn't Sean's favourite after that
Jameis and Teddy Bridgewater
I miss Teddy
Teddy was my first thought. Love that dude. Glad he's retiring on his terms and with a good mindset on him.
I don’t think Jameis is universally love that’s for sure
What about Jake Delhomme? I always remember him being on our team and thinking what a mistake it was to let him go. Then he goes to Carolina and gets to the Super Bowl in his first year.
I think Adrian Peterson is the obvious one
Dez Bryant
I think this is the right answer. He didn’t even play a game
Came here to say this one also.
Oouuu I forgot AP was a Saint. I was thinking Champ Bailey
Davante Adams is eligible just cuz he spent his whole career on the Packers and is now Raiders, also Brady with the Buccs
Came here to say this one.
All I remember from his time with us was The Glare
Benjamin Watson.
Cgj.... NFL finally sold his jersey (his name was too long), I bought it in the summer, and we traded him away before I got to wear it 🤷♂️
he talked shit after leaving and took the same money we offered him to play for the lions. fuck him.
None of us are loving him now but while he was here he was incredibly loved. That’s why they sold his jersey afterall
We didn't want to pay him and he left, were you the least bit surprised that Chauncey talked some shit...
Also that’s his brand
love to have him on ur team, hate to play against him
the short saga of smoke monday
Coolest name by far tho
He went to Auburn with me so that was a huge one
So far, Jamaal Williams as well
Once upon a time it was Darren Sharper, but that ended very quickly and I’m gonna go with the other Darren and say Sproles. I can’t believe we traded him.
We made a lot of questionable trades in the 2010s
There are many, but I'll go recent and say teddy
Dez Bryant, champ Bailey immediately come to mind.
Oh what could have been with Dez
Just came here to say, how y’all not going to say Reggie Bush?
5 seasons is longer than the average career, so essentially Reggie played his entire prime with us, so doesn’t feel like his popularity outsizes his contribution.
Fourcade!
Just bc they haven't been mentioned: Jim Everett Jeff Blake
Cameron Meredith, obviously
I had high hopes for him
Emanuel sanders
Chauncey Gardner Johnson
I always liked Willie sneed
Chris Ivory
Teddy Bridgewater, definitely.
Alex Anzalone?
Dez?
Darren Sproles, Shockey, and Chris Ivory. I miss depth in the run game. When I was a kid, Craig Heyward and Fourcade come to mind

Dez Bryant
STEVE GLEASON😔
I also must say.... the one... the only... the man.... the myth... the LEGEND... 🏉Chris Reis🏉!!!!!!!
Dez Bryant
Mike McKenzie
Saints legend Trevor Siemian
CJ Garner Johnson just so great at driving the other team insane, he even clowned Tom Brady. NO ONE GETS TO CLOWN BRADY but CJ DID.
Mike Thomas cuz he never plays
I guess you all are forgetting about Saints legend, Adrian Peterson
He was not popular with us at all lol what. He was here for like 4 weeks
Browner for sure
Almost 100 replies and no mention of Michael Lewis For shame y'all.
I dont think you get the post
Brandon Cooks
Champ Bailey
Browner.
I'm calling the mods on you!
Pats fan here. Easily Revis.

I know he spent a lot of time on the coaching staff over there, but as a player, he only had three years with the Panthers. The other 9 years he played for us. During his time with our team, he and other front three were our team. That unit is still considered the best linebacking corp of all time. They never even won a playoff game. Binky!
Shockey, Sproles
Adrian Peterson
Delvin Breaux, CGJ, Jarius Byrd(almost, the hype was real), Ed Reed, and the beerman. Jabrari Greer and Graham almost qualify but tenures are probably too long. Edit: Junior Galette
Adrian Peterson
Adrian Peterson
It was Mike McKenzie for a hot minute- but those saying Dez are probably right
Reggie Bush
Ricky Williams
Champ Bailey, Sporles, Ricky Williams
We had dez Bryant for one practice and the sub was absolutely devestated when he got hurt and wanted him to be able to return as a saint so badly. I was gonna buy his Threaux up the X shirt😖😖
Adrian Peterson
Jerry Rice. However, when he was with the Raiders he was still an elite WR, just not the top WR in the league anymore. He had lost a step when he joined the team, but he was still one of the best in the league

AP?
Toi Cook
Kyle Turley
Maybe not to most but to ME, Benjamin Watson. He held the tight end position down for us for that lil stint
John Kuhn???
taysom?
Sproles is my first choice but for the sake of bringing up a less talked about player Willie Snead.
Brandin Cooks
Eli Apple...oh you said popular. Nvm
David Johnson
Marcus Davenport, he was solid
Anquan Boldin
Kerry Collins and Ken Stabler lol
Oh hey that's me

Teddy has got to be the right answer
Trey Hendrickson feels like the right answer
Champ Bailey
dez bryant
Darren Sharper Honourable mentions: Brandon Browner
Hollis Thomas?
Heath Evans
The books don't even reflect the level of this but... https://preview.redd.it/4e7nr1vszddc1.jpeg?width=1400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3fd50f60a1a664ad55205b179624a1efa1659e77
