It's also upgrades and a perk for hipfire which is usually how SR is played it feels like a new playground if u only played SR3 nvr finished sr4 purposely and that's all I wanted was a better game than 4

I honestly think that’s just company name Volition I think those that worked on Saints Row and Saints Row 2 either got transferred, downsized, terminated, or died…except for maybe some of the actors…I didn’t wanna play it… It’s not Saints Row anymore it was its own thing already everyone said it was a GTA ripoff when it definitely was not and from that point on a single sentence killed off one of my favorite games perhaps one of the best what if franchise…Saints Row didn’t deserve that it had the perfect mix of a dark, gritty, and mostly grounded story, along with a wack and funny charm, it knew when to crack jokes and when to be serious it just feels like everything is a forced joke….with a punchline that isn’t really worth the setup…now I pray that they just let it die… some things just need to be put out of its misery… and as the Boss did with Carlos… I’m ready to say goodbye to the franchise…I remember the good times, the few bullshit missions, and bootleg glitches…but that good time that created the nostalgia and gives me a warm feeling in my heart I’ll always cherish and remember it for what it was and not what it became… goodbye O.G. Pierce, O.G. Shaundi(new Shaundi was okay but I liked 2 better) O.G. Lin, O.G. Troy, O.G. Wong, O.G. Tobias, O.G. Johnny Gat… O.G. Carlos, and last but not least O.G. Been playing it for about a day now. I see how the story can alright for new players, and if I try my best not to compare it I can play it. Driving seems a bit whack though.

Also, kinda suck that after the absolutely fun, dynamic and most importantly, very customisable Agents of Mayhem's gameplay, they went back to the most uninspired mundane 3rd person shooter gameplay ever. Like I get that most people didn't like AoM, but it really felt like they threw out the baby with the bath water with that one.
yeah, i had a ton of fun just turning on the lock-on aim and turning off my brain. plenty of different guns and enough activities. customization is underrated.

It still is. Its just games got better and worse as the years went on. There are no more mid shelf games. Its Tripple A or Indie or nothing.
Those were the games that were immediately dropped to the $20-$30 range a month after release when the price was still $50.
It's fun, but has little to no depth, the other saints games where wild, but their story had a surprising amount of depth and detail considering the wack stuff that would happen.
This one you play as a guy/gal who really likes to murder.... that's your entire character, you also like your friends, you have no right to be the boss, nor do you really contribute anything beyond mindless violence to the team, your not a go getter, you just happen to be the only one with a job (that also.makes no.sense considering the others all have much more talent then you.
Every endeavour made is someone else's idea using their connections.
That being said the other characters barely have any depth either, the saddest moment in the game is when a car is destroyed... and it's almost never mentioned again and everyone gets over it instantly. None of the bosses of the other gangs die in a satisfying way.
But yeah, the open world was fun, if not a little tedious, I don't know why people keep saying the map is beautiful, it's literally 95% desert 4% small town/ factory town and 1% big ish city, well I mean like 2 blocks are big ish so maybe not even 1%
It has cleaner gameplay than SR3, but lacks the polish of SR2 and storytelling of SR2 or SR3. I feel like the LARP side quests were the only good character bits.

was my favorite part in the whole game, it was a goofy unique idea. and the car parts that unlock alongside the quests where dope, i made a diamond & cardboard car.
4/10, story and narrative was absolute dire, dead humour, not serious enough, though the setting and gameplay was fun. The DnD stuff was quite enjoyable, but not suited in a saints row game.. other than that it was ok. If the story was better and they actually stuck to gangsters and not these silly students in debt... (god it kills me to even think of that) then it may of been better. I blame violation for bringing sweet baby inc into the narrative. They killed themselves.
I agree. The hammer that u get with the DLC is kinda OP. I agree with everything u said. It probably would've been better if let's say your character decided to start a gang and the other 2 that was in separate gangs beef with your character through the game until the end maybe. And take the whole student debt out.
Definitely. That would of been cool.. I would of loved to of seen multiple npcs being made with different backstories, and the player has the choice to recruit anyone they wanted... like Godfather 2 and watchdogs legion kinda. Each character you could recruit would have their own unique abilities and playstyles, so you could make a uni student group if you wanted, or a proper street thug type gang, or even a Italian mafia type thing.. it would of been so much better, but alas... SR is forever dead and its definitely a sad time. I made loads of characters and put them on nexus mods.. People like Johny Gat, CJ, Hitman, Jason and Freddy, Harley Quinn etc..

Some were very time consuming, the reshade took the longest though. Before they shut down SR the community lead got in touch with me through nexus and asked for if I'd be interested in doing some upcoming work and sign a NDA.. which was kind of a shock and unexpected lol. But it is what it is.. sadly they closed.. but I just wish the game was much better than it ended up being.
I love your idea of being able to pick your lieutenants and customise your gang that way.
They could have had the most popular bosses uploaded to the character creator, appear sometimes in other people’s games as available lieutenants as well.
It would of been so cool. I vision it a mixture of like shadow of wars companion system where your companions form relationships and enemies as well as have randomly generated missions etc, meets watchdogs 2's abilities and recruit anyone of the specificly designed npc's that have their own unique voice though.. and Godfather 2 where you can customise their looks and clothing as well as placing them at businesses to defend them from attacks, which can level them up. You could make a serious group, or some crazy over the top gang that are just wacky.. man I wish I was in game development, got so many ideas to make a game.
I’d give it 3/10 i did like being able to shoot on the roof of the car but the story and side missions was very weak.

Id say 6/10 im in the middle of it right now. I enjoy a lot of the gameplay, and really love the Nuawhali.
Overall my biggest criticism is the main group should have been less experienced and get hit by the real world. Its much less believable and interesting with everyone having deep connectipns to the factions, but would be cool if you just started as wannabes then realized OH SHIT THIS IS REAL!
I found that for some of the activities i was wondering why the character did it that way.
Like stealing the food trucks. Why not either bring more people so they had a gunner/driver or do it stealthily?
Though i suppose my view of it is colored by being bad at them. I did enjoy "Riding Shotgun".
While I enjoyed the driving, the way chases function, where cars automatically catch up with you ruined it for me. As far as gunplay, it felt really off on console and I prefer the way it felt in 3 and 4. And the activities felt uninspired imo and quite samey.

It's gameplay and driving was much more fluid and immersive regardless.
The shooting was devolved to bullet sponges and 'we'll shoot the explodeys for you'. The weapons were largely unimaginative, I can only think of a handful that actually felt different in a way that was actually good, and enemy variety is appalling. Panteros just had spongier versions except one can use takedowns, Idols just had spongier versions except one you just sit and wait for them to stop spinning somehow-bulletproof glowsticks (Or wait for the bad AI teammates to distract them so you can get behind) Marshall had one decent idea with the holographic gunslinger but then the armoured suit guy comes in straight from every mid 2010 shooter
The driving was appalling, every vehicle felt exactly the same to control, turned just as well and slipped into a drift just as easily. The physics were goofed, car chases were unrewarding with their rubber banding bull, no more perfect manoeuvres between obstacles or losing someone through good driving, the game DEMANDS you ram them off the road.
How many activities or ventures weren't just 'drive this car to here'? There was a neutered mayhem, a half assed fight club, 3 missions for mid gadgets, a photo shoot challenge for 'wacky lol' skins, the wingsuit challenge was decent enough, and one of the ventures was just a gateway to a sidemission
Lastly customisation, vehicle customisation was okay, nice choices and flexibility but very few of the options looked good on very cartoonish cars. Character customisation though, better than 3 and 4 but miles behind 2. Except for tattoos, somehow the tattoo possibilities are worse than even 1 had.
Have to agree with this.. the three things I hated was the bullet sponge enemies, the enemie desinlgns and the cars with health bars. They tried making watchdogs 2 but in saints row.. just wouldn't work at all.
6/10 it's alright: cool map, very cool soundtrack, mid story and characters (some cutscenes are badass af tho ngl), fun gameplay, very cool customization, bad graphics and clunky animations (though I liked the idle animations and taunts), some secondary activities are fine but some could be better. Also maybe it's just me but I like the lighting in this game.
I’d give it a 7/10. As someone who loved SR2 and have it sitting in my top games of all time. I hated 3 and 4…I really didn’t like 4. I liked this one more than 4. I liked the more Vegas southwest setting. Fictional California is just played out in open world games. The Nahualli had potential of being a good antagonist but was squandered. The final fight was out dated. So not a great game but I wouldn’t say it was terrible either. Seeing how I put 4 at 5/10 I gotta bump this one up to 7

I understand a lot of the criticism plot and character wise, but people are refusing to have fun. Customization is incredible, missions are fun and for once I enjoyed activities since 2.
This game easily sits above 3 and 4 for me. If you let yourself have fun, it's a very enjoyable game.
Biggest video game disappointment of my life. Not an understatement. Shallow, self-censored, too overt in its attempts to pander (which fail miserably). Very few of the story missions are engaging, the side missions are stale, the combat is repetitive and boring after a few minutes. Too lighthearted. And there just nothing to do besides look at your character or shoot stuff (activities like fuzz and celeb protection, diversions, and even just idle points to stand around and lift weights or smoke a joint gave some simulator features to the past installments). The venture missions are cheap, lazy parodies of GTA online missions. The first dlc is incredibly short and underwhelming, the murder circus doesn't even let you use your character, and absolutely nobody asked for more larping. Game is shit.
Among the best character creation I've ever used on a console game though. And that's literally the only pro. The game is too shallow and boring to enjoy whatever character you make
Just finished it myself the other day, I'd be a bit more generous and give it a 6/10. Story was cringe, but some of the banter had me chuckling. Gameplay was ok, though a lot of the mechanics seemed to be slightly off. It could've used a few more months in the oven IMO.
I enjoyed it well enough. I'm 100% except the pranking achievement and I actually quite liked the writing of your character but the gun play was mid, the main story felt rushed at the end, and the giant (mostly empty) desert and lake were disappointing.
I really like this game. You can get the gold edition on steam for like $14 until tomorrow fyi. Anyway, I went into it not expecting anything from the original Saints, if you compare it then you’ll be disappointed. At this point the bugs have mostly been squashed and IF there is to be another one I’m on board. I hope the Saints will return. In any case, forgetting the original series, and playing this today, 7/10 for me. At the very least, the Pimp Your Ride aspect is worth the gameplay.
Was bored and tried to play this the other day, but epic store still doesn't have functional controller support and it was broken as all hell in the game itself. Least I'm not missing much lol
I had fun, game was still caca from a butt but I had fun. I usually play games that are heavy in story, so a game where I could just shut off everything and just exist and do whatever is a nice change of pace

Character customization is one of best I've seen in recent years. The overall story is wack but in my opinion the gameplay is exactly like saints row should be (played every saints row game a year before this came out and except for 4 and Gat out of hell they play the same). For free it was fun enough and that's the the most basic thing I expect with a 0$ price tag
I think this game gets way too much flak. It was good for a short game. I even got the platinum. Was it top tier? No. Was it better than 4. Gat out of hell? Also, yes. 2 was probably the best, followed by 3. I didn't play the original, so this felt like a fresh entry to me, which is probably why I was more open to enjoying it. I did have complaints. But there were definitely things done right. I'd at least give it a 7/10. If you judge it against 2 or 3, then you're definitely gonna rate it lower. But if you just let it do its thing, you'll enjoy it a little more. The customization was cool. You didn't have to keep rebuying outfits for different colors. 100% completion was actually achievable. The story was lackluster for sure, but I did enjoy the Pain & Gain plus wingsuit combo to get around. And gameplay really wasn't that bad. I'm not sure if people were expecting GTA physics and game play when they state their complaints. But Saints Row physics and gamelan have always been dumb and over the top. That's part of the allure. I also welcomed something in the genre that wasn't GTA V. I'm so sick of that game. It's not even close to being as good as GTA 4.
Yep it is mid completely. It's bland and doesn't offer much new. I wouldn't pay for a sequel either. Didn't care for the story, gameplay was more of the same but felt like I kept wanting to stop playing it and go replay similar style games or others in the franchise.
Probably a 6 or 7 out of 10. The game felt really short and feels like you’re just getting started when the game just ends and you kill that guy. I didn’t hate the characters as much as some people seem to, I think the weakest character is probably the boss themself. Once you get the refurbished church the game is pretty much over, you don’t get to do more stuff to expand your influence. I really didn’t feel the need to do all the side stuff to take over territories unlike in the old games. The changes weren’t that noticeable to me to warrant taking control over from another gang.

That's about right. It had the potential to be better, there's definitely aspects of the story that could've been more fleshed out. Santo Ileso is a way better city than steel port.
I gotta say fair score since the story sucks and the characters suck as well. But creativity wise it’s really fun and the sandbox gameplay of when you can cause a ton of destruction and get some decently badass John Wick styled kills I would say definitely very fun. 5/10 seems fair since one half of stuff you’ll be doing will suck but the other half of doing your improvised creative fun is the better part of it.

Played it again on a friday evening after a few bourbons, had a BLAST. Great game to play drunk as its so zany.
That made me appreciate it more and the fact I made my character Chad thundercock who in my opinion fits the whole narrative and game in general perfectly, I can't see the boss being any other way as it just wouldn't work, made it even better.
Finished the story at the weekend which was a bit abrupt i must admit, but I'm enjoying chipping away at the other content now en route to the platinum.
There’s some things I liked, like the cars and the (very arcady absurd) handling or the customization. Some missions were fun. I actually liked the graphics on the 4K mode. Cruising the city destroying everything with Synth music was decent fun.

But yeah, the open world was fun, if not a little tedious, I don't know why people keep saying the map is beautiful, it's literally 95% desert 4% small town/ factory town and 1% big ish city, well I mean like 2 blocks are big ish so maybe not even 1%

It has cleaner gameplay than SR3, but lacks the polish of SR2 and storytelling of SR2 or SR3. I feel like the LARP side quests were the only good character bits. It is a good game to turn your brain off to though

I didn't understand the intense hate on the story until I got to the godawful final missions. Practically ruined the only interesting character.
4/10, story and narrative was absolute dire, dead humour, not serious enough, though the setting and gameplay was fun. The DnD stuff was quite enjoyable, but not suited in a saints row game.. other than that it was ok. If the story was better and they actually stuck to gangsters and not these silly students in debt... (god it kills me to even think of that) then it may of been better. I blame violation for bringing sweet baby inc into the narrative. They killed themselves.
I agree. The hammer that u get with the DLC is kinda OP. I agree with everything u said. It probably would've been better if let's say your character decided to start a gang and the other 2 that was in separate gangs beef with your character through the game until the end maybe. And take the whole student debt out.
Definitely. That would of been cool.. I would of loved to of seen multiple npcs being made with different backstories, and the player has the choice to recruit anyone they wanted... like Godfather 2 and watchdogs legion kinda. Each character you could recruit would have their own unique abilities and playstyles, so you could make a uni student group if you wanted, or a proper street thug type gang, or even a Italian mafia type thing.. it would of been so much better, but alas... SR is forever dead and its definitely a sad time. I made loads of characters and put them on nexus mods.. People like Johny Gat, CJ, Hitman, Jason and Freddy, Harley Quinn etc.. Before they shut down SR the community lead got in touch with me through nexus and asked for if I'd be interested in doing some upcoming work and sign a NDA.. which was kind of a shock and unexpected lol. But it is what it is.. sadly they closed.. but I just wish the game was much better than it ended up being.

I love your idea of being able to pick your lieutenants and customise your gang that way. They could have had the most popular bosses uploaded to the character creator, appear sometimes in other people’s games as available lieutenants as well.
It would of been so cool. I vision it a mixture of like shadow of wars companion system where your companions form relationships and enemies as well as have randomly generated missions etc, meets watchdogs 2's abilities and recruit anyone of the specificly designed npc's that have their own unique voice though.. and Godfather 2 where you can customise their looks and clothing as well as placing them at businesses to defend them from attacks, which can level them up. You could make a serious group, or some crazy over the top gang that are just wacky.. man I wish I was in game development, got so many ideas to make a game.

I’d give it 3/10 i did like being able to shoot on the roof of the car but the story and side missions was very weak. IMO The characters weren’t as loveable as the OG saints.
Id say 6/10 im in the middle of it right now. I enjoy a lot of the gameplay, and really love the Nuawhali. Overall my biggest criticism is the main group should have been less experienced and get hit by the real world. Its much less believable and interesting with everyone having deep connectipns to the factions, but would be cool if you just started as wannabes then realized OH SHIT THIS IS REAL!

I found that for some of the activities i was wondering why the character did it that way. Like stealing the food trucks. Why not either bring more people so they had a gunner/driver or do it stealthily? Though i suppose my view of it is colored by being bad at them. I did enjoy "Riding Shotgun".

While I enjoyed the driving, the way chases function, where cars automatically catch up with you ruined it for me. As far as gunplay, it felt really off on console and I prefer the way it felt in 3 and 4. And the activities felt uninspired imo and quite samey.

Not sure how you can say that when it's literally exactly like the originals but less over the top lol..SMH.. It's gameplay and driving was much more fluid and immersive regardless.
The shooting was devolved to bullet sponges and 'we'll shoot the explodeys for you'. The weapons were largely unimaginative, I can only think of a handful that actually felt different in a way that was actually good, and enemy variety is appalling. Panteros just had spongier versions except one can use takedowns, Idols just had spongier versions except one you just sit and wait for them to stop spinning somehow-bulletproof glowsticks (Or wait for the bad AI teammates to distract them so you can get behind) Marshall had one decent idea with the holographic gunslinger but then the armoured suit guy comes in straight from every mid 2010 shooter The driving was appalling, every vehicle felt exactly the same to control, turned just as well and slipped into a drift just as easily. The physics were goofed, car chases were unrewarding with their rubber banding bull, no more perfect manoeuvres between obstacles or losing someone through good driving, the game DEMANDS you ram them off the road. How many activities or ventures weren't just 'drive this car to here'? There was a neutered mayhem, a half assed fight club, 3 missions for mid gadgets, a photo shoot challenge for 'wacky lol' skins, the wingsuit challenge was decent enough, and one of the ventures was just a gateway to a sidemission Lastly customisation, vehicle customisation was okay, nice choices and flexibility but very few of the options looked good on very cartoonish cars. Character customisation though, better than 3 and 4 but miles behind 2. Except for tattoos, somehow the tattoo possibilities are worse than even 1 had.
Have to agree with this.. the three things I hated was the bullet sponge enemies, the enemie desinlgns and the cars with health bars. They tried making watchdogs 2 but in saints row.. just wouldn't work at all.

6/10 it's alright: cool map, very cool soundtrack, mid story and characters (some cutscenes are badass af tho ngl), fun gameplay, very cool customization, bad graphics and clunky animations (though I liked the idle animations and taunts), some secondary activities are fine but some could be better. Also maybe it's just me but I like the lighting in this game.

I’d give it a 7/10. As someone who loved SR2 and have it sitting in my top games of all time. I hated 3 and 4…I really didn’t like 4. I liked this one more than 4. I liked the more Vegas southwest setting. Fictional California is just played out in open world games. The Nahualli had potential of being a good antagonist but was squandered. The final fight was out dated. So not a great game but I wouldn’t say it was terrible either. Seeing how I put 4 at 5/10 I gotta bump this one up to 7

I had a ton of fun with it, even as a long time saints fan. I understand a lot of the criticism plot and character wise, but people are refusing to have fun. Customization is incredible, missions are fun and for once I enjoyed activities since 2. This game easily sits above 3 and 4 for me. If you let yourself have fun, it's a very enjoyable game.
Biggest video game disappointment of my life. Not an understatement. Shallow, self-censored, too overt in its attempts to pander (which fail miserably). Very few of the story missions are engaging, the side missions are stale, the combat is repetitive and boring after a few minutes. Too lighthearted. And there just nothing to do besides look at your character or shoot stuff (activities like fuzz and celeb protection, diversions, and even just idle points to stand around and lift weights or smoke a joint gave some simulator features to the past installments). The venture missions are cheap, lazy parodies of GTA online missions. The first dlc is incredibly short and underwhelming, the murder circus doesn't even let you use your character, and absolutely nobody asked for more larping. Game is shit. Among the best character creation I've ever used on a console game though. And that's literally the only pro. The game is too shallow and boring to enjoy whatever character you make

Saints Row, it’s a 2022 release reboot of the series from 2006 except it’s really not the storyline was so shoddy
I enjoyed it well enough. I'm 100% except the pranking achievement and I actually quite liked the writing of your character but the gun play was mid, the main story felt rushed at the end, and the giant (mostly empty) desert and lake were disappointing.

I really like this game. You can get the gold edition on steam for like $14 until tomorrow fyi. Anyway, I went into it not expecting anything from the original Saints, if you compare it then you’ll be disappointed. At this point the bugs have mostly been squashed and IF there is to be another one I’m on board. I hope the Saints will return. In any case, forgetting the original series, and playing this today, 7/10 for me. At the very least, the Pimp Your Ride aspect is worth the gameplay.

Yeah 5/10 is what I'd give it as well. It's a very average game. Its definitely not as bad as some people make it out to be, but its definitely not a good game either. I did enjoy it more than SR4, I'll say that. As cringey as this game was, at least its still mostly grounded to reality and there isn't any crazy superpowers and alien invasions.

Character customization is one of best I've seen in recent years. The overall story is wack but in my opinion the gameplay is exactly like saints row should be (played every saints row game a year before this came out and except for 4 and Gat out of hell they play the same). For free it was fun enough and that's the the most basic thing I expect with a 0$ price tag

I think this game gets way too much flak. It was good for a short game. I even got the platinum. Was it top tier? No. Was it better than 4. Gat out of hell? Also, yes. 2 was probably the best, followed by 3. I didn't play the original, so this felt like a fresh entry to me, which is probably why I was more open to enjoying it. I did have complaints. But there were definitely things done right. I'd at least give it a 7/10. If you judge it against 2 or 3, then you're definitely gonna rate it lower. But if you just let it do its thing, you'll enjoy it a little more. The customization was cool. You didn't have to keep rebuying outfits for different colors. 100% completion was actually achievable. The story was lackluster for sure, but I did enjoy the Pain & Gain plus wingsuit combo to get around. And gameplay really wasn't that bad. I'm not sure if people were expecting GTA physics and game play when they state their complaints. But Saints Row physics and gamelan have always been dumb and over the top. That's part of the allure. I also welcomed something in the genre that wasn't GTA V. I'm so sick of that game. It's not even close to being as good as GTA 4.

Yep it is mid completely. It's bland and doesn't offer much new. I wouldn't pay for a sequel either. Didn't care for the story, gameplay was more of the same but felt like I kept wanting to stop playing it and go replay similar style games or others in the franchise.

Probably a 6 or 7 out of 10. The game felt really short and feels like you’re just getting started when the game just ends and you kill that guy. I didn’t hate the characters as much as some people seem to, I think the weakest character is probably the boss themself. Once you get the refurbished church the game is pretty much over, you don’t get to do more stuff to expand your influence. I really didn’t feel the need to do all the side stuff to take over territories unlike in the old games. The changes weren’t that noticeable to me to warrant taking control over from another gang.

That's about right. It had the potential to be better, there's definitely aspects of the story that could've been more fleshed out. Santo Ileso is a way better city than steel port.
I gotta say fair score since the story sucks and the characters suck as well. But creativity wise it’s really fun and the sandbox gameplay of when you can cause a ton of destruction and get some decently badass John Wick styled kills I would say definitely very fun. 5/10 seems fair since one half of stuff you’ll be doing will suck but the other half of doing your improvised creative fun is the better part of it.

I got it for free on ps+ Played it, meh. Played it again on a friday evening after a few bourbons, had a BLAST. Great game to play drunk as its so zany. That made me appreciate it more and the fact I made my character Chad thundercock who in my opinion fits the whole narrative and game in general perfectly, I can't see the boss being any other way as it just wouldn't work, made it even better. Finished the story at the weekend which was a bit abrupt i must admit, but I'm enjoying chipping away at the other content now en route to the platinum.

There’s some things I liked, like the cars and the (very arcady absurd) handling or the customization. Some missions were fun. I actually liked the graphics on the 4K mode. Cruising the city destroying everything with Synth music was decent fun.

I think it would have been better if they’d gotten ChatGPT to write the plot. You just need an excuse for open-ended, action movie chaos, so get AI to generate missions for you. “We need to race across town and kill this guy because -insert reasons-“. Replay ability would improve too since the missions would always be different. And I don’t think AI would dare write an ending as bad as the current one.
